00:00:00The low water levels caused by drought conditions in South Florida are now having an impact on wildlife in the
00:00:06Everglades.
00:00:07You can see back here, there's just a scant amount of water on what should be a canal.
00:00:11And when you look over here at the sawgrass, there should be water over there.
00:00:15Central Florida is facing the worst drought in almost a decade, leaving rivers, lakes and wetlands gasping for relief.
00:00:24We're burning a lot of energy. It's hot out here. It's unbelievably drought-like.
00:00:30Unbelievably dry. That might be our water source. I don't know how drinkable this is going to be.
00:00:36This little green cesspool.
00:00:39This is majorly alarming.
00:00:41Oh, that stinks.
00:00:44That smell might get me.
00:00:55I'm just not sure anybody can survive here for 21 days.
00:00:58Oh, my God.
00:01:02Two strangers.
00:01:04No food.
00:01:11No water.
00:01:1421 days.
00:01:16Don't tell.
00:01:18Die first.
00:01:22Oh, it's hot today.
00:01:38The humidity's already up.
00:01:40It definitely seems to be a hostile environment.
00:01:44With the sun beating down, the terrain being so dry up, I feel it's going to be definitely a challenge.
00:01:58There should be a lot more water than there is.
00:02:02I'm concerned what that means for fire.
00:02:05At the same time, it's also alligator breeding season.
00:02:08So the animal I'm after most and love the most is going to be a little testy if we show
00:02:15up.
00:02:22All right.
00:02:23I made it.
00:02:25Catfish Bob.
00:02:27About to start a crazy adventure.
00:02:34All right.
00:02:37Yee-yee.
00:02:38Get this started.
00:02:51Well, it looks like this is my stop.
00:02:53Time to start my 21-day challenge.
00:02:55Woo!
00:02:56I already beat my 14-day challenge in Belize, and now I'm here to do 21 in the Everglades.
00:03:02Throughout my challenge in Belize, I definitely had a few days and nights where I was running
00:03:10on zero sleep and covered in insect bites.
00:03:15Feel.
00:03:16I want to peel my skin off.
00:03:20That's how bad it changes.
00:03:22But it's nothing I couldn't get past then, and it's nothing I can't get past now.
00:03:26I'm ready for the 21 days.
00:03:28I'm going to conquer Florida, and then I'm going to conquer the next challenge.
00:03:32I believe I'm fearless.
00:03:34I haven't encountered anything yet I'm scared of.
00:03:37Yet.
00:03:38There's always a yet.
00:03:39Let's go.
00:03:40I've been waiting for this since Belize.
00:03:52I really got this nervous energy about my partner.
00:03:54I don't know anything about their skill set or anything.
00:03:59So, I am super excited, but also super nervous.
00:04:08Hey!
00:04:09Hey!
00:04:09There you are.
00:04:10I've been looking for you.
00:04:11I know.
00:04:12Yeah.
00:04:12The only other naked person out here.
00:04:14How are you doing?
00:04:15Pretty good.
00:04:16I'm going in for a hug.
00:04:17Yep.
00:04:17Bring it in.
00:04:17Absolutely.
00:04:18I'm Danny.
00:04:19Danny Catfish Bob.
00:04:20Nice to meet you, Danny.
00:04:21Catfish?
00:04:21Is that what you do for a living?
00:04:23No, I'm actually a painter by trade, but I've spent my whole life outdoors.
00:04:26That is my passion, though, is fishing and love for the outdoors.
00:04:30Hey, how you doing?
00:04:31Catfish Bob.
00:04:32Hey, Catfish Bob.
00:04:34All righty, Catfish Bob.
00:04:35Even as a teenager, I was catching man-sized catfish, and I was the only guy doing that,
00:04:40and I just become this Catfish Bob.
00:04:43I'm still catching 50s and 70s and 80-pounders, so the legend still lives.
00:04:48If I could find an energetic woman that was an outdoor spirit and somebody that could even
00:04:55close to match my energy, I feel like in 21 days, we would have a mansion built.
00:05:00Be asking people to take their shoes off when they come in.
00:05:03Put a nice angle chop on it.
00:05:06What do you do?
00:05:07I'm a crocodilian biologist, if you're willing.
00:05:09That's what I'm talking about.
00:05:10Hell yeah.
00:05:11I've worked with crocodilians for the past 10 years on and off, and I have a passion for
00:05:17them.
00:05:17They're my babies.
00:05:18My tattoo is Steve Irwin.
00:05:21He inspired a whole generation.
00:05:23I hope to do the same.
00:05:24I love them like brothers.
00:05:26I refuse to eat them.
00:05:28Oh my God, I can't believe.
00:05:32Extremely happy to hear that Danny is also an outdoors person.
00:05:37Also a biologist.
00:05:39A biologist.
00:05:40He may very well be more qualified than me, and that's awesome.
00:05:44Have you done any challenges like this before, Danny?
00:05:46So I already did my 14 day fan challenge in Belize.
00:05:49What about you?
00:05:49No, I haven't done no challenges.
00:05:52I like to think I've prepared my whole life for this challenge.
00:05:55Just met my partner, Bob.
00:05:57I'm honestly thrilled.
00:05:58I don't think they could have picked two better people for the Everglades.
00:06:01You can see your bags over there.
00:06:03Yeah.
00:06:03Let's check them out.
00:06:06I brought my paracord.
00:06:08Oh, nice.
00:06:09Okay, yeah.
00:06:10So I also have some fishing hooks.
00:06:13Nice.
00:06:14Definitely brought my machete.
00:06:15This is a-
00:06:16Yes.
00:06:17Can't hardly leave home without this.
00:06:18Absolutely.
00:06:19And we have our pot.
00:06:21Ah, okay.
00:06:22Yeah.
00:06:23And a fire starter.
00:06:24Fire starter.
00:06:25How do you like that?
00:06:25Nice.
00:06:26That's gonna be crucial.
00:06:28Ah, the map.
00:06:30Perfect.
00:06:31That's gonna tell us where our water is.
00:06:33This looks like where we are.
00:06:35Yep.
00:06:35I see our water source as well.
00:06:37Definitely should be able to utilize this water and probably also get into the shade right
00:06:41here through the day, because you know the heat is beating right now, so that's gonna
00:06:46be crucial that we get out of this sun.
00:06:49Alrighty, onward and forward.
00:06:51Ready to find a place to camp.
00:06:53Yeah, no doubt.
00:06:53Ready to put this machete to work.
00:06:57The Florida Everglades is a region of over 1.5 million acres of flooded grasslands.
00:07:02Forests and wetlands in the south of the state.
00:07:06The tropical savanna climate has two seasons, wet and dry.
00:07:11However, Danny and Bob are beginning their 21-day challenge in the midst of an historic
00:07:16drought.
00:07:17The waterways that normally flow through freely have dried up, crippling wildlife.
00:07:23But the wet season is about to begin, which could bring violent monsoon storms.
00:07:28And with them, an influx of hungry alligators, poisonous water snakes, and the Burmese python,
00:07:34an invasive species which can reach up to 20 feet in length and take down prey as large
00:07:40as 700 pounds.
00:07:48I can already feel that sun, and I can tell we're not doing too good just dwelling in this.
00:07:55Yeah.
00:07:56Whew, that grass will slice you.
00:07:58That sand is crazy hot.
00:08:01This is not what I had in mind.
00:08:03Most people don't think dry when they think the Everglades.
00:08:07Exactly.
00:08:07With a name like the Everglades, that's the last thing you think of.
00:08:10This was definitely a wetland.
00:08:13It's that drought that's Diagon just got the ground scorched.
00:08:17That's crazy.
00:08:18Let's hope that watering hole on that map is actually full.
00:08:21No kidding.
00:08:22I hope it ain't just like a little mud hole.
00:08:24We're in a drought.
00:08:25So we're going to be competing for resources out here with the wildlife.
00:08:29So in these areas where we do find water, we're also going to find tons of gators, tons of cottonmouth.
00:08:37We're going to have to be careful.
00:08:42Looks like it's getting a little more green up this way.
00:08:44It is too.
00:08:45I noticed that.
00:08:46Watching for snakes and anything.
00:08:50Yeah.
00:08:52In a survival situation, you never know how many opportunities you're going to get to eat.
00:08:56So I think I'm going to go ahead and make me a spear.
00:09:05Trying to get it notched.
00:09:07All I'm doing now is not just taking, just try to sharpen them down.
00:09:12There we go.
00:09:14Catfish Bob.
00:09:15He has a huge fishing and outdoors background and our skill sets match.
00:09:20Our personalities so far match and we're going to make it to 21 and more.
00:09:25I'm sure.
00:09:26A three prong that gives you a little something to strike and hold.
00:09:31That'll work.
00:09:36Oh, look at that.
00:09:37There's a gator.
00:09:39Wow.
00:09:40Wow.
00:09:41Way back in here too.
00:09:43Dang, that's cool.
00:09:44That means this is all water.
00:09:46She's probably had that dug forever.
00:09:48I'm going to lean on your expertise right here.
00:09:50When they dig their dens, they'll dig like this.
00:09:54Okay.
00:09:55And they'll cause little puddles to hold.
00:09:56So you think there's isolated water trapped off back in here?
00:10:00Oh, yeah.
00:10:00Nice.
00:10:01They can survive the droughts and dry seasons better than most.
00:10:05Right now it's breeding season.
00:10:08She's a mother.
00:10:09If she moves, you'll know she's getting irritated.
00:10:12Yeah.
00:10:12But any babies you see in there are from last year.
00:10:27All right, big mama, we're going to let you just enjoy your day.
00:10:32Whoa.
00:10:32That is awesome.
00:10:34Okay.
00:10:41Hopefully we can find that water soon.
00:10:43I don't think we're too far from it.
00:10:44I really don't.
00:10:45I think our water source is going to be fairly close to here.
00:10:48But definitely hydration is going to be our main goal right now.
00:10:52Yes.
00:10:52We're burning a lot of energy.
00:10:54It's hot out here.
00:11:01That might be our water source or possibly right there.
00:11:05I don't know how drinkable this is going to be.
00:11:10Oh, man.
00:11:10Looks like we're going to have to boil real hard.
00:11:12Really hard.
00:11:13Yeah.
00:11:14I really think it's a wallow that just was water once upon a time.
00:11:20Not exactly what I was shooting for, though.
00:11:22Yeah, it's definitely not water we can drink straight.
00:11:26Seeing our water source for the first time, this little green cesspool, it's not something
00:11:31we were looking forward to.
00:11:33This could be not good.
00:11:35This is absolutely the kind of situation that all survivalists fear.
00:11:40You find your water, but it's tainted.
00:11:42All the animals, it has feces all in it.
00:11:46I'm sure hogs have rolled in at some point or another.
00:11:50But this is the only water we've come across in a pretty good bit of hours.
00:12:01I tell you, though, I'm really, really liking this shade right here.
00:12:07Honestly, as long as it's out of the sun, we don't really need a good, like, start shelter.
00:12:12We're already on the same.
00:12:13Yeah.
00:12:13No, I totally agree.
00:12:14I say we just hang out right here.
00:12:16I don't see no need to have no big shelter.
00:12:20Plus, it's 100 degrees out here.
00:12:22Yeah, I agree with that one.
00:12:24Yeah, I'll try to get us some fire going.
00:12:26Cool beans.
00:12:28Plan to get a fire going as much as we don't think that water is necessarily the best.
00:12:34We'll know if that water is drinkable by tonight, I'm sure.
00:12:38Danny's already getting the ground prepared for a fire.
00:12:40Once again, it's unbelievably dry, like unbelievably dry.
00:12:45So we'll have to be very, very calculated with our fire not to set everything else on fire
00:12:50in the process of trying to boil water.
00:12:52There's definitely, like, the start of coals.
00:12:55Oh, yeah, absolutely.
00:12:58I see it glowing in there.
00:13:00There we go.
00:13:00There we go.
00:13:01You okay?
00:13:02Yeah.
00:13:02I see it rush up to you.
00:13:05There we go.
00:13:05Nice.
00:13:06Now we have a fire, no doubt.
00:13:09Yeah.
00:13:09I am very hesitant of this water.
00:13:12I mean, what can live if we boil it for two hours?
00:13:16Nothing.
00:13:17Okay.
00:13:17I'm with you on that.
00:13:18We're on the same page.
00:13:21I'm cutting down some palms for bedding.
00:13:24That way we're not just sitting with our butts in the dirt.
00:13:27I'm actually really excited to have such an awesome partner as Dame.
00:13:32She's definitely qualified to be out here for sure.
00:13:34That makes me feel good.
00:13:51This will be your taste test for sickness.
00:13:59All right.
00:14:02Give it some time.
00:14:25Oh, my stomach is so funny.
00:14:31Damn.
00:14:35Damn.
00:14:37No joke.
00:14:53.
00:15:10Oh, no.
00:15:25Bob's, uh, getting a little sick.
00:15:28I think the water hit him hard.
00:15:37Yeah.
00:15:37Oh, wow.
00:15:39Oh, that hurt.
00:15:41Woo, all right.
00:15:43Woo.
00:15:43Talk about breaking into a nasty sweat.
00:15:58I just never really recovered from getting sick last night.
00:16:02Got a little bit of discomfort going from the water.
00:16:05I'm sure that's what it is.
00:16:07Uh, got a little sweat going that's stronger than normal.
00:16:13My stomach's cutting doughnuts.
00:16:15It's all good.
00:16:16Danny feels fine.
00:16:17I just asked her.
00:16:18She said she said I feel fine.
00:16:19I feel fine.
00:16:20I'm a little worried about you, though.
00:16:22Uh, I think if we get us a different kind of shelter built, though, instead of just being
00:16:25on the ground, uh, that's going to be definitely better for...
00:16:28possibly build something off the ground just to lay on.
00:16:32Yeah, that'll work.
00:16:34That would definitely work.
00:16:40If you get tired, let me know.
00:16:43Oh, I will.
00:16:44It's going to take...
00:16:45It'll take a little bit to get her built.
00:16:49Last time I didn't get to build a shelter at all, really, besides help shore it up.
00:16:53This time I'm building it not only to help cool him down, but it should help my partner.
00:16:58There we go.
00:17:00We might be able to get a couple pieces out of that, too.
00:17:03Yeah, there's plenty on this other side.
00:17:05Yeah, that'll work.
00:17:08Boom.
00:17:09Another good piece.
00:17:13We got a lot of bed and material, which is also good.
00:17:17Like I say, ain't nothing going to get wasted.
00:17:20Trying to get our eating time shelter up while it's still early in the morning before it
00:17:23gets really hot today, but I'm dragging, man.
00:17:27I'm dragging.
00:17:29My belly feels like I got a volcano inside of it.
00:17:32All right.
00:17:33I know it ain't much already that we did, but dang, I about already got to take five.
00:17:39My belly is on fire.
00:17:41Here, if you want to hand me that.
00:17:43Yeah.
00:17:43I mean, if you want to take over for a minute, that's fine.
00:17:45I think I'm just...
00:17:47I hate to be a wet blanket, but I got to sit down a minute.
00:17:50Well, you're fine.
00:17:50My belly is hurting so bad.
00:17:52I do not like that, neither.
00:17:57My partner's not feeling too well.
00:18:00That water hit him hard, so I'm a little worried about him.
00:18:05That water.
00:18:08That water got me.
00:18:09He's right.
00:18:10It's not the best water, not the best situation at all.
00:18:13I'd rather not be drinking stagnant water where wildlife's been walking through, but he
00:18:21seems to be faring worse than I am with the water situation, and right now it's all we
00:18:27can find.
00:18:28Oh, man.
00:18:32Okay.
00:18:35Snake.
00:18:49Bob.
00:18:51Yeah.
00:18:51Yeah.
00:18:52I got a snake.
00:18:53Where's he at?
00:18:54He's back in here.
00:18:55Oh, .
00:18:56All right.
00:18:57There.
00:18:58Woo!
00:18:59He's ready to bite.
00:19:00Where's his head at?
00:19:01I'll take care of that one.
00:19:02I want to pull him out first.
00:19:04You got him?
00:19:05I have his tail.
00:19:06You just make sure you got him.
00:19:07You got him?
00:19:07I have his tail.
00:19:08All right.
00:19:08I'm going three.
00:19:09One, two, three.
00:19:13That's the money shot.
00:19:16All right.
00:19:17Dinner.
00:19:18Dinner.
00:19:19Good job.
00:19:24Maybe something will calm my stomach.
00:19:26I don't know.
00:19:27Well, that'll get you some water, because whatever water he has in it.
00:19:31True.
00:19:31Absolutely.
00:19:34You get one side, it'll literally almost unroll like a diagonal tootsie rope.
00:19:40Sir, there are worms in this snake.
00:19:43Like worm, as in parasite worm?
00:19:45Yeah.
00:19:47I'm looking at one right here.
00:19:50Oh, you're right.
00:19:51Yeah.
00:19:52There's little, like, bead things.
00:19:54Those are worms, too.
00:19:55They're just baby ones.
00:20:03Well, I'll tell you what.
00:20:04Make sure he's thoroughly cooked.
00:20:05I don't think my stomach cares at this point.
00:20:08About worms?
00:20:09Yeah.
00:20:10I've come closer to eating worms than I have bad water, so...
00:20:14We have our snake soup, which I'm actually looking forward to just to try to get some water to put
00:20:20back in me, but...
00:20:24It's a real reality moment.
00:20:26It's real out here.
00:20:43Yeah, that is not good.
00:20:46It's like I'm chewing on rocks.
00:20:48I'll be honest.
00:20:48I can't eat that.
00:20:49I can't eat that.
00:20:51I can't eat that.
00:20:52I can't eat that.
00:20:52For me, that's a done deal.
00:20:55It's...
00:20:57That's okay.
00:20:58I feel obligated to eat it.
00:21:01I'm not going to push or judge anybody for their decisions.
00:21:04I personally cannot kill an animal and not use it, so even if it's painful or disgusting to me, I'm
00:21:13going to try to get down as much as possible out of respect for that creature's life I just took.
00:21:20I feel like the worms are still clearly visible.
00:21:23Yeah, I'm not eating that.
00:21:24I didn't even swallow it.
00:21:25Yeah, that's horrible.
00:21:32Look how much this went down just since yesterday.
00:21:37This is majorly alarming.
00:21:39This is not good at all.
00:21:43Wow.
00:21:45We've lost a good...
00:21:49This is not going to be usable.
00:21:51This is majorly alarming.
00:21:54And I tell you what, that stinks.
00:21:59That smell might get me.
00:22:11Man, uh...
00:22:15I know there will not be no drinkable water in that hole.
00:22:21And I don't want to go into panic mode, but for me and my partner with 90 plus degree weather,
00:22:26um, and no more...
00:22:29no more water to be found.
00:22:33Uh...
00:22:34You cannot survive in this hostile environment without water.
00:22:38You can't...
00:22:47I got this unwavering doubt.
00:22:51That is just like a concrete block sitting on my shoulders.
00:22:58I'm already...
00:22:59cracked like an egg.
00:23:01No, that sounds like some cowardly , but I just definitely feeling...
00:23:07I'm just definitely feeling like...
00:23:09I just want to go home.
00:23:13Hell, I've already seen enough out of you.
00:23:15You don't need no partner.
00:23:17You can take care of this on your own.
00:23:20I'm not saying it's what you want to do.
00:23:23But I see it in you.
00:23:25I can see it in you.
00:23:28It's crazy.
00:23:29I can see it in you, and I can't see it in myself.
00:23:33I don't want to be here no more.
00:23:34I can't even believe this.
00:23:36I really...
00:23:37This is as shocked to me as it is to anybody.
00:23:39Yeah.
00:23:55I just don't feel...
00:23:57I just don't feel I can dig down and find anything to push me through this.
00:24:01I just don't.
00:24:03Well, I'm just going to say I'd rather you're here than leaving.
00:24:07It broke me.
00:24:09I mean, it did mentally, physically, the heat, the sweltering heat, the putrid water.
00:24:18But at the same time, I've always looked back and realized I had the best partner with the most positive
00:24:26outlook to complete this.
00:24:28And something inside of me just wasn't quite strong enough.
00:24:35Just broke me.
00:24:36Oh, get over here.
00:24:38Heck of a competitor.
00:24:39There's no doubt.
00:24:40Like I said, there's no doubt you're going to kill it, Danny, honestly.
00:24:47Yeah, I'm going to tap out.
00:24:50Go back home.
00:24:54Like I appreciate you not beating me down more about it, sir.
00:24:57Oh man, don't cry.
00:24:58I thought I had the goods.
00:25:01This place is unbelievably tough.
00:25:04And it just, it just kind of broke me down.
00:25:06You know, I think if this was traditional Everglades, full of water, full of leaves,
00:25:12life, Bob's challenge would have went a different way.
00:25:15But this drought is definitely no joke.
00:25:19It makes what should be a thriving environment into one that's pretty desolate and hard to live in.
00:25:29I'm just going to leave this for you.
00:25:31Thank you, hon.
00:25:32Yeah, no problem.
00:25:32Absolutely.
00:25:34I feel like that's going to be an advantage.
00:25:36You know, give you somewhat of a leg up, even though I'm not going to be here to swing it.
00:25:42That'll help.
00:25:45This is an unforgiving land.
00:25:47I just wasn't prepared for it, even though I thought I was.
00:25:52Absolute beast of a place, and it broke me.
00:25:58You can find yourself out here.
00:26:00And you will see what you're made of.
00:26:03I guess I'm made of Jilly, I guess.
00:26:06I tried to reach in deep down and pull out some kind of something that was going to wheel me
00:26:12back into this challenge.
00:26:14And sadly, I just couldn't find nothing.
00:26:17How the Everglades told me like she did, but I absolutely wouldn't like to turn back with a different mindset
00:26:29and do it again.
00:26:32After just two days in the Everglades, Bob taps out of the challenge.
00:26:36His PSR drops from 5.8 to 5.5.
00:26:54I think a lot of people come into this thinking it's going to be easy because they've done similar things
00:26:59in their daily life.
00:27:01And when you get out here, it's just a whole other game.
00:27:06I don't have a partner, so I'm a little worried.
00:27:09It's already a challenge on its own just to go through all this.
00:27:13So having that partner, you know, when you're not in your happiest moments or feeling down or even just overexerted
00:27:23is definitely beneficial.
00:27:26Plus, you bond real quick out here, so it's sad to lose somebody.
00:27:42I'm going to do some exploring rather.
00:27:45Further distances.
00:27:47If I can find another water source, that'd be great.
00:27:51Finding a reliable source of water is a huge priority, considering my current water source is a cesspool.
00:28:02I think being, you know, a wildlife biologist in the field, I know it.
00:28:07The Everglades are full of natural resources.
00:28:10There's no reason I shouldn't be able to find some, even in this drought.
00:28:23Doesn't look like a whole lot's over there.
00:28:25It's just an open area.
00:28:29Still very dry.
00:28:30But I'm going to go see what's over here, because it looks like there is some taller green grass.
00:28:35Yeah.
00:28:40I was hoping there'd be water over here.
00:28:43Just a dry creek bed, I guess.
00:28:46It's all sand.
00:28:48This drought really is ruining any chances for some clean water.
00:29:04One thing that I can do is work on the shelter, at least get a bed, like a lifted bed
00:29:08down.
00:29:09Bob and I got it started together, but didn't get a chance to finish.
00:29:14Danny is completing a raised bed frame that is tethered to three trees, secured by an X cross beam.
00:29:21A layer of smaller branches form a sleeping base that are then tied with paracord.
00:29:2621 days, you'd think I could build a decent shelter, though.
00:29:29Is it my priority? No.
00:29:31Would I like to sleep? Yes.
00:29:34Laying on the ground.
00:29:36Not comfortable.
00:29:39Takes a lot of energy to chop down.
00:29:40Green trees.
00:29:42I am really hot.
00:29:44I love the heat, but that sun is brutal.
00:29:47So, it takes a lot more out of you than you think it does.
00:29:52Feliz was hot, but not like this.
00:29:54At least you had the jungle looking out for you.
00:30:05So, I'm just kind of tired.
00:30:11Lying in sleep.
00:30:13Lying in sleep.
00:30:13Lying in sleep.
00:30:15Lying in sleep.
00:30:15Lying in sleep.
00:30:18Lying in sleep.
00:30:20Lying in sleep.
00:30:22Lying in sleep.
00:30:22Lying in sleep.
00:30:23Lying in sleep.
00:30:23Lying in sleep.
00:30:27Lying in sleep.
00:30:28Lying in sleep.
00:30:28Lying in sleep.
00:30:28Lying in sleep.
00:30:28Lying in sleep.
00:30:29Lying in sleep.
00:30:29Lying in sleep.
00:30:29Lying in sleep.
00:30:31Lying in sleep.
00:30:32Lying in sleep.
00:30:35Lying in sleep.
00:30:41Any time, anywhere.
00:30:43We got a call 24 hours ago to jump in
00:30:47on a challenge of the Everglades.
00:30:49Think I can do it?
00:30:49Yeah.
00:30:50I'm proud of you.
00:30:51I know.
00:30:53Kill some gators.
00:30:55I'm a football coach and a day trainer.
00:30:57You guys, that was a hell of a game.
00:30:58I loved your fight today.
00:31:00One, two, three, pop up it!
00:31:02Great job, boys.
00:31:03My first 14 day challenge,
00:31:04I'm not gonna say I was nervous
00:31:05but it was really an uncomfortable situation.
00:31:07Now, as my partner, I need to know
00:31:09that you're willing to sacrifice yourself.
00:31:12In what way?
00:31:14I've been saying since my last challenge,
00:31:17anytime, anywhere, and it's time for me
00:31:19to put my money where my mouth is.
00:31:22Go.
00:31:23My best survival skills include shelter building.
00:31:26I'm gonna show you how to make a snare wire real quick.
00:31:28There you go.
00:31:29Procuring food.
00:31:30Not bad.
00:31:31And using all the resources that are available to me.
00:31:34Brought my machete.
00:31:36It's gonna help me survive in every way down here.
00:31:39I'm a workhorse, man.
00:31:40I get done.
00:31:41If it has to get done, I get it done.
00:31:43I don't stop until it's done.
00:31:44Probably heading that direction over there.
00:31:46Let's go find my partner.
00:31:50There's no water anywhere.
00:31:53So that's my biggest concern right now is water.
00:31:56I'm interested to see what my partner's doing
00:31:58for water right now.
00:32:00I know that I have what it takes to complete this challenge.
00:32:03And I know that I have what it takes to help my partner
00:32:05complete their challenge.
00:32:09Looks like that's my partner right there.
00:32:13Hello?
00:32:19Hello?
00:32:28Hello?
00:32:33Hey!
00:32:35Is that my partner?
00:32:37What are you doing?
00:32:39Coming to join you on a challenge.
00:32:41Well, you probably don't need help, but...
00:32:42Kyle.
00:32:43Good to see you.
00:32:43Danny.
00:32:44Good to meet you.
00:32:45You too.
00:32:46How you doing?
00:32:46I'm great.
00:32:47This is crazy, huh?
00:32:48Yeah.
00:32:49Do you know it's coming at all?
00:32:50No, I didn't.
00:32:51That's going to be a great surprise, right?
00:32:52I know.
00:32:52It is a great surprise.
00:32:54So what happened to your first partner?
00:32:56Bob had...
00:32:57He just had a mental...
00:32:59mental wall.
00:33:00He's like, I can't do 21,
00:33:01so I might as well leave now type thing.
00:33:03Yeah.
00:33:03Damn, dude.
00:33:04This is wild.
00:33:05I'm not leaving.
00:33:06It's like your first partner.
00:33:07So, crazy story.
00:33:09Kyle just showed up out of nowhere.
00:33:11So now I have a partner again.
00:33:13And I'm excited about that.
00:33:14Whatever's best for you.
00:33:15I'm coming into your home right now.
00:33:17Yeah.
00:33:17So however I can help improve for you,
00:33:19I'm all about it.
00:33:20What do you have for resources?
00:33:22So you got a machete?
00:33:23Yes.
00:33:24Oh, yes.
00:33:25I brought mine too.
00:33:26I think this is a good partnership.
00:33:28I do.
00:33:28I think you bring a lot to the table,
00:33:29and I think I can help you with your situation right now too.
00:33:32I think this is awesome, and I'm so glad you came.
00:33:35Seriously.
00:33:36Danny and I are ready to crush.
00:33:37We're going to make it to 21, no questions asked.
00:33:39This is way different than Columbia.
00:33:41It's like super dry.
00:33:42Oh, yeah.
00:33:43It's like crazy how dry it is.
00:33:45Yeah.
00:33:45This is supposed to be the Everglades in this dry as right now.
00:33:47Yeah.
00:33:48My first impression of this terrain, it's brutal.
00:33:51It's bone dry.
00:33:52It's, everything is so dry.
00:33:54You know, I don't see how life can really be sustained here.
00:33:57It's going to be difficult to live here.
00:33:59This is it right here.
00:34:00This is it.
00:34:01Oh, wait until you see the actual water, dude.
00:34:04There's a bunch of, who knows what, piss, everything in there for wildlife.
00:34:09Everything.
00:34:10Everything, dude.
00:34:11Everything's competing for this.
00:34:12Yeah.
00:34:15Do you have a map?
00:34:16I do have a map.
00:34:17I also have a map.
00:34:21Where are we right now?
00:34:22Where is your camp?
00:34:23Right here?
00:34:24My camp's right there.
00:34:26Yeah.
00:34:26It looks like my map's bigger than yours.
00:34:28Look, yours cuts off right here.
00:34:30Oh, yeah.
00:34:31Oh, so that water source is new and it's closer to extraction.
00:34:36Maybe we move.
00:34:37Maybe we move.
00:34:37Yeah.
00:34:38I have no problem with that.
00:34:39Because the water is going to be our most important thing.
00:34:41Kyle's map shows a new water source.
00:34:44It extends a little further than mine did.
00:34:46It seems like the best plan of action would be to move to a water source.
00:34:56I'm happy with my partner.
00:34:58Oh, I'm ecstatic.
00:35:00I was so happy to see you show up.
00:35:02Yup.
00:35:03Tomorrow we're making a bigger trek to a new water source and possibly a new home.
00:35:14Day one for Kyle.
00:35:16Day five for me, complete.
00:35:19Day five.
00:35:20Day five.
00:35:21You're a gangster, dude.
00:35:29That's where we are right now.
00:35:30Yeah.
00:35:31So that's southeast, so I'm guessing this direction.
00:35:34Yeah.
00:35:34It'll also be closer to extraction.
00:35:37It's going to be way closer to extraction.
00:35:39We'll cut the time in half.
00:35:40Yeah.
00:35:40Looks like that trail's probably a good place to start.
00:35:43Yeah.
00:35:43This is definitely the best choice.
00:35:45I agree.
00:35:45All right.
00:35:46Let's go.
00:35:55Oh, this looks like a lot of briars.
00:36:01My eyes are locked in on the ground because I don't want to step on anything poisonous.
00:36:06I know there's tons of venomous snakes out here.
00:36:14Ah!
00:36:15Okay.
00:36:16I'm stuck.
00:36:17Your hair.
00:36:24Yep.
00:36:25Oh, my gosh.
00:36:26Like you said, step by step.
00:36:29Okay.
00:36:30We're up.
00:36:35I do not like this as much as I like the other area.
00:36:38Not yet.
00:36:39Not yet.
00:36:39There's not much resources.
00:36:41There's very little firewood.
00:36:42There's tons of thorns.
00:36:43We haven't gotten to water yet.
00:36:46You know, there's a...
00:36:48Yeah.
00:36:50Let's hope it gets better.
00:36:51Yeah.
00:36:56Ow, you...
00:36:56Did I get you?
00:36:57Sorry.
00:36:58No, no.
00:36:58I stepped on it.
00:36:59It's stuck in my foot.
00:37:01Left kind of looks like it turns back.
00:37:04That turns back?
00:37:05It looks like it.
00:37:06That.
00:37:09Humidity is close to 100%.
00:37:11It has to be.
00:37:12I'm pouring.
00:37:13I don't see anything yet.
00:37:14Nothing but more jungle.
00:37:25Oh, I see a field opening up over here.
00:37:28Oh, yeah?
00:37:28Yeah.
00:37:29I'm watching where I step real carefully.
00:37:31Yep.
00:37:31I've been trying to push everything out of the way as I go.
00:37:37The thorns are killing me.
00:37:45You know, the sun is hot.
00:37:48Yes.
00:37:50It's amazing how many different terrains we've encountered on this hike.
00:37:54I know.
00:37:55I hear frogs.
00:37:58Frogs usually mean water.
00:38:00Yes, they do.
00:38:02Oh, hey.
00:38:05Oh, it's wet.
00:38:07Yeah.
00:38:10There's a ton of water, dude.
00:38:11Let's go.
00:38:13This new location is a lot more open, a lot more alive.
00:38:18This one feels like it has more resources.
00:38:22Oh, look at that.
00:38:24Oh, yeah.
00:38:25He's a good size.
00:38:27Jesus.
00:38:29That's a big one.
00:38:31Yeah, just make sure, like, when we go up to this water's edge, if you don't see him,
00:38:35Yeah.
00:38:36He might be near you.
00:38:37He definitely sees us.
00:38:38We won't see him if he's underwater.
00:38:40Damn, dude.
00:38:41Look at that guy.
00:38:42Oh, he's following.
00:38:43So he's just curious.
00:38:45So step back and get a couple paces away.
00:38:48Yep.
00:38:48I'm watching him.
00:38:49Yeah, no.
00:38:50I'm following your lead.
00:38:51Just don't take your eyes completely off him.
00:38:54If he goes down, we go up.
00:38:56Yep.
00:38:57It's like looking at Jurassic Park.
00:39:00Okay.
00:39:00We've sourced our water.
00:39:01Our next step is find home.
00:39:03Shelter.
00:39:03I mean, look right there behind this hill.
00:39:06Yeah, that doesn't look bad either.
00:39:08It looks like there's a hardwood in there.
00:39:10Perfect.
00:39:10That's what the loss has grown on.
00:39:11Perfect.
00:39:12We should probably get out of the sun sooner than later.
00:39:22You okay?
00:39:23Yeah.
00:39:26Am I missing something?
00:39:28Hold on.
00:39:29Here's a rabbit.
00:39:31Damn it.
00:39:32Oh, .
00:39:33Hold on.
00:39:38No.
00:39:39Stop.
00:39:39Stop.
00:39:40Stop.
00:39:41Getting a rabbit.
00:39:42That would be a meal.
00:39:43We need food.
00:39:58Damn it.
00:40:04Where is it?
00:40:08I see him.
00:40:09She's gonna go around from the front, kind of distract him so he stays locked in on her.
00:40:13And I'm gonna sneak up from behind and hopefully have a better shot at getting him.
00:40:18Oh.
00:40:19Look at him right there.
00:40:20I got this side.
00:40:22I'm gonna try it.
00:40:22I saw him run in here.
00:40:24If he's frozen, we have a better chance.
00:40:30Did you see it come out?
00:40:31He ran back in here.
00:40:32All right.
00:40:35There he went.
00:40:36Yeah, he's...
00:40:36He went back.
00:40:38Yeah, this is his home and his terrain.
00:40:42Where is he?
00:40:43He's right in there.
00:40:46I'll throw this at him too.
00:40:48Here.
00:40:50He'll run out of energy.
00:40:52I don't think so.
00:40:53I got him.
00:40:54You got him?
00:40:55Yeah, hold on.
00:40:59Nope.
00:41:00Which way is he going?
00:41:01Right there, right there, right there.
00:41:03Which I think I injured him.
00:41:03Hold on.
00:41:08Damn it.
00:41:13He's gone.
00:41:15I was this close.
00:41:18My spear landed where he was.
00:41:20Yeah.
00:41:20He just moved.
00:41:21No, they're quick.
00:41:25That sucks.
00:41:28Damn it, dude.
00:41:28I should have had him.
00:41:30It's okay.
00:41:31Let's work on the shelter.
00:41:33Okay.
00:41:34This doesn't look terrible.
00:41:36No.
00:41:37It's clear.
00:41:37You can see everything, so nothing's going to ambush you.
00:41:40You can probably build like a quick lean-to right off that.
00:41:42Yeah.
00:41:43Let's do it.
00:41:44All right.
00:41:44Perfect.
00:41:45I'm going to try to find some long enough beams.
00:41:49Plan of attack right now is to gather materials.
00:41:51There's not many straight beams anywhere, so I'm trying to find like the straight-ish beams off of these trees
00:41:57around.
00:41:59You know, we have plenty of palm fronds to interlace for our roof.
00:42:05I might have to climb this tree and chop down a bigger beam.
00:42:08It looks easy enough to climb.
00:42:10Are you a good climber?
00:42:11I am a good climber.
00:42:12Okay.
00:42:16Be careful, please.
00:42:17I'm going to take this one down and use this for the main supports.
00:42:35It's coming down.
00:42:36Yep.
00:42:39Don't let it fall.
00:42:41It's heavy.
00:42:48How are you feeling?
00:42:49I'm tired, but I'm feeling pretty good though.
00:42:51I'm going to sit for a few.
00:42:52Go for it.
00:42:53Yo, that sun is brutal.
00:42:55Ugh.
00:43:02Yo, you're a great partner.
00:43:04Dude, seriously.
00:43:05So are you.
00:43:07At my first 14-day challenge, I think my lowest point was when me and Malou got into like an
00:43:11argument.
00:43:12Our shelter is blinking.
00:43:15It's just dropping everywhere.
00:43:16It just leaked on my forehead right there.
00:43:18It just leaked on my toes.
00:43:20It just leaked on my back.
00:43:21This is horrible.
00:43:22It's kind of annoying to listen to you complain repeatedly.
00:43:25My second time around, I'm way more comfortable, way more confident.
00:43:28And I know that I have what it takes to help my partner complete their challenge.
00:43:31There you go, sir.
00:43:33To make their lean-to shelter, Kyle and Danny are securing two sturdy support beams to the existing tree structure.
00:43:40Then adding cross beams, held together by paracord.
00:43:44And finally, weaving in layers of palm fronds as insulation and weatherproofing.
00:43:50Here's our lean-to. Here's our home for the next two weeks.
00:43:53Yeah, I'm happy with this place.
00:43:55You're a beast, dude.
00:44:03We're gonna have to boil it really well.
00:44:04Dude.
00:44:05Bye, bud.
00:44:16It doesn't smell bad.
00:44:22That water is a lot better than the first one.
00:44:25Like, from site one.
00:44:26Not only do I love the taste, but it'll also help to stay as hydrated as possible.
00:44:33I'm gonna drink some water.
00:44:37Ooh, yeah.
00:44:38Way better.
00:44:39I'll take that.
00:44:40We're gonna use this water source for sure.
00:44:44Let's go.
00:44:50Crazy sunburn from the day.
00:44:53Don't feel too great.
00:44:54My legs are cut up.
00:44:55My feet are cut up.
00:44:57The only thing I'm worried about is this sunburn.
00:44:59It's brutal.
00:45:00Look at this.
00:45:00Oh, my gosh.
00:45:01Your back is bad.
00:45:03Whole body's red.
00:45:05We were in the sun all day long, too.
00:45:08That was a tough day.
00:45:22I can just feel myself cooking in that sun, where it's like direct sunlight on me.
00:45:26Yeah.
00:45:27I mean, you came in on a hot day.
00:45:30Yeah, I know.
00:45:31We moved on a hot day.
00:45:33Yep.
00:45:33So you really haven't had any time to rest.
00:45:36I came out here on literally 20 hours notice.
00:45:39It's a completely different environment than what I'm used to.
00:45:43It's a marathon, not a sprint.
00:45:45I don't want to sprint when I can't sprint right now.
00:45:47I think it's gonna take a day or two for my body to adapt to this heat.
00:45:50Yeah.
00:45:51Man, we could really use a win.
00:45:53You know, a food win would be nice.
00:45:55I'm hungry.
00:45:57Definitely low energy.
00:45:59My body's craving some protein.
00:46:01I'd like to be feeding my partner.
00:46:04You have to eat.
00:46:06That's, I mean, no energy is going into your body otherwise.
00:46:10If Kyle overdoes it and gets heat stroke or sun poisoning, you know, that could take him out.
00:46:16And I'm glad he's taking that seriously.
00:46:20There might be fish.
00:46:22My fear is we throw a fishing line in there with some bait.
00:46:26That baby gator, he's gonna go after the bait and I'm gonna have a gator on a hook.
00:46:31You just don't want to hook one of those little guys.
00:46:33Or a pregnant female.
00:46:35Not in breeding season.
00:46:37I'd like to be, you know, conserving nature while also feeding both of us.
00:46:45I just want to take care of him and I know he wants the same for me.
00:47:01This is gross, man.
00:47:04He has some nasty water source.
00:47:05It's not far from our gator pond.
00:47:07It's like two thirds the size.
00:47:09So this small gator could definitely be in here without being seen.
00:47:14But I'm not really seeing any slide slides not for gators.
00:47:20I mean, that right there looks like it could have been a den at some point.
00:47:28There's nothing in there right now.
00:47:30Well, I have a feeling there's catfish in there.
00:47:34The way they're gaping at the top of the water does say catfish for sure.
00:47:40I think it's definitely worth trying to fish if we can find some bait.
00:47:52There's catfish in a pond not far from our gator pond.
00:47:55Let's go.
00:47:56That's the best news I've ever since I've been here.
00:47:58Yeah, there's a bunch of catfish in there.
00:48:00Is this new pond far?
00:48:01It's not much further than our gator pond.
00:48:04It's doable.
00:48:05And there's shade there, so.
00:48:07All right, that's good.
00:48:08All right, so let's make fishing poles, right?
00:48:11Yeah.
00:48:11I'll sharpen the spear.
00:48:13Maybe we can find some bait.
00:48:17I think the next thing I eat is going to be catfish.
00:48:20I think this should be enough, don't you?
00:48:22Yeah, probably.
00:48:23I'm just looking forward to my meal.
00:48:34I'm going to go up there and look for little lizards.
00:48:47Got one.
00:48:48You got one?
00:48:49Yep.
00:48:50Is it alive?
00:48:50Yep.
00:48:51What?
00:48:51Here.
00:48:52Is that hooked tight?
00:48:53Yeah.
00:48:55Sorry, buddy.
00:48:56Thank you for your life.
00:49:00I just caught in a knoll.
00:49:02I saw a lizard to use as bait.
00:49:05Got it in there right now.
00:49:07Get it, girl.
00:49:10I'm surprised I haven't seen any snakes around,
00:49:13like water moccasins.
00:49:16It'd be nice to get a snake again.
00:49:19I think there'd be a snake somewhere.
00:49:42Oh.
00:49:45Right there.
00:50:03Right there.
00:50:06No.
00:50:08There you go.
00:50:13No.
00:50:22You're in this fish.
00:50:23You're in this fish.
00:50:29Oh.
00:50:32Oh, man.
00:50:41Damn it.
00:50:46Damn.
00:50:48He was fast.
00:50:49I missed him, and he outpaced me.
00:50:57Kyle?
00:50:58What's up?
00:50:59There was a racer.
00:51:01Did you get it?
00:51:02No.
00:51:03He got out into the open.
00:51:05It took, like, two dives at him.
00:51:08But he was too fast.
00:51:09Wish I saw that.
00:51:11As soon as he saw me, he took off.
00:51:14You going to leave that and go back for a little while?
00:51:17Get some water?
00:51:18Yeah.
00:51:20Nothing on the line, so I'm just going to leave him there overnight.
00:51:26Unfortunately, he got away.
00:51:29I told Kyle that he can't be bummed about his rabbit,
00:51:31so I can't be bummed about my snake.
00:51:33You got this.
00:51:44I figured I'd go check out the lines that we set out earlier.
00:51:52Oh, it looks empty to me.
00:51:58No food one yet, but when we get it, it's going to be beautiful.
00:52:02Not that I want to go hungry until my extraction.
00:52:07I'm just tired.
00:52:10I'm really hoping for some rain.
00:52:12Some rain would be so nice that it just fall on me or scrub my body.
00:52:18I feel like a new man.
00:52:24Please come our way.
00:52:28We would like the rain.
00:52:30We would also like a shower.
00:52:33Let's hope.
00:52:36Some dark clouds.
00:52:37We might be in for some Florida showers.
00:52:45Oh, that's smart.
00:52:49A storm is rolling in.
00:52:52Kyle's covered our firewood for us.
00:52:56It's a...
00:52:57Yeah, that's a no joke.
00:52:58Yeah, it's not a...
00:52:59It's going to be a good storm.
00:53:02Here it comes.
00:53:15It feels so good.
00:53:18It's like, I don't know, a shock to the system, dude.
00:53:21The temperature is a lot colder.
00:53:25Well, it feels a lot colder than the leaves.
00:53:27Temperature just went from 100 degrees to 60 degrees in like an hour, literally.
00:53:32It's such a drastic change between like the heat of the day and just this rain.
00:53:41It's a shock to the body for sure.
00:53:43Got humbled a little bit.
00:53:44You know?
00:53:45That's always good for you.
00:53:47I swear it dropped like 20 degrees instantly.
00:53:54In for it.
00:53:56Woo!
00:53:58Feel that wind.
00:54:02This environment is absolutely wild.
00:54:06What the f**k?
00:54:09We're trying to pull up our shelter.
00:54:15Trying this hardest.
00:54:18It's not a tornado, it's hurricane-like.
00:54:22Woo!
00:54:24Chili is f**k.
00:54:26It's a safety mile and a row.
00:54:26It's like 50 miles around here.
00:54:28We're getting crazy.
00:54:29We're getting umph!
00:54:37No.
00:54:37We're being strained all f**king night.
00:54:40A whole night of this.
00:54:41It's crazy.
00:54:42Now it's been storming for hours.
00:54:45It's been a very long night.
00:54:46We're wet.
00:54:49It's probably one of the hardest days so far.
00:54:52So, tonight's horrible.
00:54:55Yeah, it's like a punch in the face.
00:54:57Probably gonna be a long night.
00:55:13Last night was a rough one.
00:55:15Stormed for like five hours.
00:55:18More than one.
00:55:19Yeah, it was a long time.
00:55:20It was freezing.
00:55:21The temperature dropped like 40 degrees.
00:55:23Yeah.
00:55:25Stormed all night last night.
00:55:27I'm wet, gross, freezing.
00:55:29My partner and I didn't sleep for a single moment.
00:55:34I know, you say, how can you be cold in Florida?
00:55:37Well, you can be cold because it's 100 degrees one moment.
00:55:40The sun pouring on, you beat your skin up.
00:55:43The next, it's 60 degrees because it's raining.
00:55:47You feel freezing breezes coming or something.
00:55:51I don't know.
00:55:52I am more tired than I have been the past few days.
00:55:55I think I shivered last night enough to burn more calories.
00:55:58Yep.
00:55:59Get cold to your bone.
00:56:01Last night, it was like a torrential downpour.
00:56:03That shift in weather is crazy.
00:56:06And I don't want to go through another miserable cold night.
00:56:09It basically proved how much work we need to put into our shelter.
00:56:14Shelter day for sure.
00:56:16Yeah.
00:56:20So, the plan for today is shelter rebuilding if there's a chance of rain.
00:56:25It's just to be proactive about weather changing.
00:56:29It was a good one.
00:56:31We're just shoring up our roof, making it stronger, better, tighter thatching.
00:56:36Make it overlap so everything flows down.
00:56:38So, no water can get through.
00:56:40You know, it's a game of constant improvement out here.
00:56:48Ah, damn it.
00:56:51You okay?
00:56:52I got a bunch of in my eye.
00:56:57Partially blind.
00:57:02Can we call for the medic?
00:57:03Because I can't even keep my eye open.
00:57:17Ah, damn it.
00:57:18I got a bunch of in my eye.
00:57:25Because I can't even keep my eye open.
00:57:31I really can't see, dude.
00:57:34It got in my eye and it's not getting any better.
00:57:37It isn't coming out naturally.
00:57:40She's very tough, but I'm concerned for her.
00:57:43I need my partner for the full 21 days.
00:57:46Can we call for the medic?
00:57:48Definitely.
00:57:55I have a bunch of stuff in my eye.
00:58:00And it's not coming out.
00:58:04What's it feel like?
00:58:05Feels like sandpaper.
00:58:07Sandpaper in your eye?
00:58:08Yeah.
00:58:09And I can't open my eye really anymore.
00:58:12Let me look and see if I can see what's in there okay?
00:58:14Okay.
00:58:15There's something right there in the corner.
00:58:17I can't get it to come out.
00:58:19It's so stuck up and not teared up.
00:58:22I'm gonna wash it out.
00:58:25The medic flushes Danny's eye with water to remove the debris.
00:58:29She will be monitored carefully for any signs of a corneal ulcer.
00:58:34A medical emergency that can quickly lead to infection, causing blindness and even the loss of the eye.
00:58:40There we go.
00:58:42Blink that around.
00:58:44This feels so stupid.
00:58:46Eye injury.
00:58:48I just have to deal with this eye and tomorrow's a new day.
00:58:52You have to take every day as it comes.
00:58:55It just sucks I can't open the eye.
00:58:57Yeah.
00:58:57You did have a lot of debris in there so.
00:59:00Let the irritation go down and then we'll check in again okay?
00:59:04All right.
00:59:06I'm just not doing well.
00:59:08I still am seeing blurry and my depth perception is still off.
00:59:16Why'd it have to happen on a day where we had a bunch planned?
00:59:20I'll pick it up.
00:59:21No problem.
00:59:22You've been busting your ass from day one.
00:59:24It feels good to step up and get the shelter done.
00:59:28I am grateful for my partnership with Danny.
00:59:30She works her ass off.
00:59:32We have each other's back 100%.
00:59:33We take care of each other.
00:59:35It's really important to me.
00:59:36There you go.
00:59:37That looks way better.
00:59:38From what I can see it looks better.
00:59:40It looks way better.
00:59:42It's gonna, the thatching's tighter.
00:59:44There's no gaps.
00:59:45It's thicker.
00:59:47Everything about it is better.
00:59:49I feel like my equilibrium and everything is off.
00:59:51It's almost impossible to try to do this challenge with only one good eye.
01:00:12My eye is feeling much better this morning.
01:00:15I can actually see now.
01:00:17Let me see it.
01:00:18Looks way better.
01:00:20Yeah.
01:00:20It's not right, not swollen.
01:00:21It just looks normal.
01:00:22Yeah.
01:00:22It's not taking me out of the game.
01:00:26I'm gonna go search for some protein today.
01:00:29That's a great idea.
01:00:31That'd be huge.
01:00:39A food one would be nice.
01:00:41Feeling shaky and weak.
01:00:42I know.
01:00:43My body's craving some protein.
01:00:46With the increase in rain, water levels are definitely higher.
01:00:49There's a lot more to work with for fishing in here.
01:00:53Nothing?
01:00:57Still bait on it though.
01:00:59These catfish are not getting hooked, no matter how many lines we put out or leave.
01:01:04Nothing's catching and holding at least.
01:01:06It's annoying the out of me with all these misses.
01:01:10All right.
01:01:13It's just disappointing.
01:01:21Good morning.
01:01:22On my way to check my fishing lines.
01:01:26And I'd really love this food one.
01:01:27I would really, really love a catfish.
01:01:30Just for morale.
01:01:31Just to prove it that I can, you know?
01:01:35But it's nice and early.
01:01:37I'd love to get that food one to start the day.
01:01:40I'm going to check my trap lines.
01:01:42And, of course, they're empty.
01:01:51Big-ass gator.
01:01:53He's huge.
01:01:55I just saw a seven, eight-foot gator go running back into his hole.
01:02:00But I'm going to come show you guys where that gator went back into.
01:02:07Right there.
01:02:08That's his home.
01:02:09Right under there.
01:02:11If you look closely, you can see the trail of where it just was.
01:02:15The danger here is very real.
01:02:16You're in their home.
01:02:17I don't have any experience to take down a gator.
01:02:20And for this challenge, I've had zero time to prepare.
01:02:22And if he decides to bite me and rip off the page of my forearm, that's the end of my
01:02:26challenge.
01:02:27I'm doing my best to respect the animals and their environment.
01:02:30At the same time, I'm trying to thrive here as well, so.
01:02:44Right here.
01:02:45Let's do this, bro.
01:02:47I just have very low energy reserves right now.
01:02:50I'm not eating as much as we need to, but I'm hoping for food here.
01:03:00Someone's about to stick its head up there.
01:03:02Yeah.
01:03:03There's something in there.
01:03:06I don't know what.
01:03:07Just briefly stuck its nose up as I was approaching.
01:03:11Wait a second.
01:03:14Huge turtle.
01:03:18I'm watching the water, and I keep seeing this nose pop up in the same place.
01:03:26I'm not quite sure how big this turtle is, but he's teasing me, so I'm about to go in after
01:03:33him.
01:03:35I think I have him.
01:03:37Yes, no.
01:03:38Oh, my God, he's huge.
01:03:40How big?
01:03:41Huge.
01:03:41Like, take the spear.
01:03:43Yep.
01:03:52Oh.
01:03:56Oh.
01:03:57Oh, .
01:03:58I'm sitting on top of him.
01:04:00Done, done.
01:04:02Holy .
01:04:03Oh, .
01:04:05Oh, .
01:04:07Oh, .
01:04:09Oh, .
01:04:11Oh, .
01:04:13I'm sitting on top of him.
01:04:14Done, done.
01:04:15Holy .
01:04:23Damn, I had that thing.
01:04:32Holy .
01:04:34I know he was huge.
01:04:35I had him.
01:04:36Yeah.
01:04:39I can't believe that that thing was that big.
01:04:42The size of it shocked me.
01:04:43Yeah.
01:04:45I mean, that's your freaking meal.
01:04:48Kyle and I are really hungry.
01:04:50Can't afford to lose that.
01:04:52It's annoying.
01:04:53It sucks, dude.
01:04:54Yeah.
01:04:55This sucks.
01:04:56Sucks hard.
01:05:08It is day 15, which means I have officially made it further than my fan challenge.
01:05:21But right now, I really need to provide for myself and my partner to prove myself beyond a doubt.
01:05:29I'm going to our ponds.
01:05:31I'm looking for some protein for us.
01:05:33Snakes or something.
01:05:37With the increase in rain, places that were dry this whole time are now absolutely saturated.
01:05:44So we now have another water source.
01:05:47It's completely overflowed.
01:05:50So anything we get from here needs to be absolutely boiled.
01:05:55Especially with where the hogs have been digging up.
01:06:04Whoop.
01:06:05Whoop.
01:06:06A snake.
01:06:07I just came up to our water source and moved a few of the fronds.
01:06:12And I see a snake in there.
01:06:14It looks like a water snake.
01:06:15So I'm going to attempt to catch him.
01:06:18Where are you, dude?
01:06:20I know you're down there somewhere.
01:06:21You got to come up to breathe.
01:06:29There you are.
01:06:32Hey, buddy.
01:06:38You are a beautiful creature.
01:06:41I love snakes.
01:06:43I absolutely thank you for your life.
01:06:48I know.
01:06:48I'm sorry.
01:06:59Here you go.
01:07:03Got us a snake.
01:07:05Had a big win today with a snake.
01:07:07I love Kyle.
01:07:09He's a great partner.
01:07:10So being able to provide that win for him makes me extremely happy.
01:07:17Hey, partner.
01:07:19What do you got going on?
01:07:22Well.
01:07:25Let's go, dude.
01:07:28Yes.
01:07:30Oh, that's awesome.
01:07:32Let's go, dude.
01:07:34My partner comes back and wiggles a two-and-a-half-foot snake right in my face.
01:07:38Come here.
01:07:40Hell yeah, dude.
01:07:43Oh, awesome job, dude.
01:07:46First meal together.
01:07:48This little water snake.
01:07:49Not little.
01:07:50Three-foot-long water snake.
01:07:52I'm really happy for my partner.
01:07:54I'm really happy for my partner that she was able to give us some protein.
01:07:56I'm so excited to eat my first snake.
01:07:59I'll bring up a few more fishing lines, too, now that we have legit bait.
01:08:02Tell you what, man.
01:08:03I feel so good.
01:08:04This is awesome, man.
01:08:05What a beautiful experience.
01:08:09Here you go.
01:08:10Cheers.
01:08:11Cheers.
01:08:12Cheers.
01:08:20You know, it's not much protein.
01:08:22It's just such a morale boost.
01:08:24Yeah.
01:08:26This is the kind of meal that keeps on giving.
01:08:29You know, I'd be shocked if we don't catch something with those guts.
01:08:32Yeah.
01:08:33You know?
01:08:34And it just continues to snowball.
01:08:37Yeah, we should be able to get a few fish, at least.
01:08:51What's the plan for the other day?
01:08:53When you fish, I think that's kind of the name of the game from here on out.
01:08:57What do you think?
01:08:57Yeah.
01:09:00Let's do this, bro.
01:09:01Let's go.
01:09:06So we have the guts of the snake.
01:09:08We're going to focus on a different form of bait
01:09:10and use those guts as bait and get some catfish.
01:09:13I am going to throw this out right now.
01:09:15I'm going to hook it really well,
01:09:17make sure the hook is exposed and the barb.
01:09:19And I've done everything I possibly could to get catfish,
01:09:22so I know that if it doesn't work out,
01:09:24it wasn't due to a lack of effort.
01:09:27All these struggles, man,
01:09:28it's going to make my victory that much more glorious.
01:09:33Man, I need a protein win.
01:09:35Yeah.
01:09:35And I want to catfish so bad.
01:09:37Having a big chunk of fish
01:09:38would just honestly change everything.
01:09:40Yep.
01:09:49Something's on my fishing line.
01:09:54Yes!
01:09:56Woo!
01:09:58We got two!
01:09:59Woo!
01:10:00Yes!
01:10:01Kyle finally caught his fish.
01:10:03I knew he would.
01:10:04Um, I'm super excited for him.
01:10:07He needed this win.
01:10:09Two catfish, baby!
01:10:14Let's go.
01:10:14That's hard work right there.
01:10:16That's awesome, Kyle.
01:10:18Let's go, dude!
01:10:20Two catfish is a huge score.
01:10:22It's a lot of protein,
01:10:23or a lot more than we have been having,
01:10:25and this is going to set us up mentally, at least.
01:10:32Let's go, baby.
01:10:33Catfish bobbing got on me.
01:10:37Feels like I earned it.
01:10:40Feels exactly what you think success feels like.
01:10:44I love it.
01:10:45So stoked, dude.
01:10:46You got your protein win.
01:10:48Let's go, baby.
01:10:49Let's go.
01:10:51Let's go cook some catfish.
01:10:57Oh, there we go.
01:11:00Two beautiful catfish.
01:11:03I worked hard for those, you know.
01:11:05Three days straight.
01:11:06I'm super, super proud,
01:11:08and a happy-ish moment with my partner as well.
01:11:11Look at that protein.
01:11:12Look how much protein that is.
01:11:13Let's go, dude.
01:11:17Better than the snake?
01:11:18Better than the snake.
01:11:25Kyle's feeling great.
01:11:27He's super proud of himself,
01:11:29and he deserves to be.
01:11:30He worked hard at that.
01:11:32Harder than I've seen most people try anything.
01:11:35He was determined,
01:11:36and he didn't let his losses get him down.
01:11:39He just kept going until he won.
01:11:42This wouldn't happen without you and that snake.
01:11:44You know that, right?
01:11:45Yeah.
01:11:46This is your win just as much as my win is.
01:11:49It's a partnership, you know?
01:11:51Yeah.
01:11:51This is a win for us both.
01:11:52This is huge.
01:11:53And now we have that positivity,
01:11:56that good energy.
01:11:57That's all we really need for extraction.
01:11:59You happy?
01:12:02You happy?
01:12:03I'm happy.
01:12:05Good.
01:12:17Oh, God.
01:12:19I'm getting bit by fire ants.
01:12:23You're tearing me up.
01:12:30Leave me the hell out.
01:12:32Fire ants are everywhere.
01:12:36Son of a bitch.
01:12:38This is absurd.
01:12:40It's like, enough.
01:12:41Enough.
01:12:42They came out of nowhere.
01:12:44They suck.
01:12:46They bite you.
01:12:47You're destroying me.
01:12:48This sucks.
01:12:50It sucks hard.
01:12:52This is a miserable night.
01:12:55Yep.
01:13:02Ah!
01:13:05The ant bite.
01:13:06Ah.
01:13:07It was like fighting all night.
01:13:10Ants out here are ridiculous.
01:13:12This is torture, dude.
01:13:13It's just awful.
01:13:14Yeah.
01:13:15My weakness, by far, is insects.
01:13:18And now that I have the fire ants to contend with,
01:13:20I was eaten alive by them.
01:13:22A lot more than I'm ever used to.
01:13:24I like it.
01:13:25See the fire ant mounds?
01:13:27Their whole house is underneath us.
01:13:29They're not around.
01:13:31I love how we spend two weeks in here,
01:13:33and then they decide they want to come out
01:13:34and hang out with us.
01:13:35Kind of a dick move, if you ask me.
01:13:38Oh, could move the shelter.
01:13:40Just pick that up, bring it out there.
01:13:42Yeah.
01:13:42The plan is to move the shelter.
01:13:45I know that sounds crazy.
01:13:46I'm spending my calories and spending my energy,
01:13:49but it's super, super important
01:13:50to be well-rested before extraction.
01:13:52We know it's probably going to suck, so.
01:13:54We're moving to the open field.
01:13:56There's no fire ants up our ass all night long.
01:13:59Save our skin.
01:14:00It just makes sense.
01:14:02There's no need to be miserable the last night.
01:14:04To your left.
01:14:06There you go.
01:14:07Got it?
01:14:08With the extraction tomorrow,
01:14:10we don't know how long it's going to be.
01:14:11We don't know how hard it's going to be,
01:14:13but the fire ant bites definitely changes things.
01:14:17We are sleeping out in the open,
01:14:20so just got to be a little more cautious
01:14:23because there's alligators moving across the landscape.
01:14:27We're going to hide you real quick.
01:14:29Extraction's going to suck.
01:14:31Yeah.
01:14:40We moved our whole shelter out here.
01:14:43I'm not sure if this is a good idea or a bad idea,
01:14:45but hopefully get a good night's sleep
01:14:47and bang out this distraction.
01:14:58Dude, there's an alligator right here.
01:15:00Where?
01:15:01Can't hold it.
01:15:02It's like it's walking towards us right now.
01:15:05Where?
01:15:08Right here.
01:15:09Six foot, hater?
01:15:12Hey!
01:15:13Hey!
01:15:14Help!
01:15:20I don't know how long it's going to last,
01:15:22but this is my attempt at bushcraft basketball.
01:15:25We have a net, so...
01:15:28Let's see how it works.
01:15:29Oh, here we go.
01:15:31Wow.
01:15:35Yeah.
01:15:43If I was my own coach right now
01:15:44and I was missing like this,
01:15:46I'd take your ass out
01:15:46and put someone who's going to hit shots.
01:15:48Basketball?
01:15:49Yes, ma'am.
01:15:51Get it, girl.
01:15:55Oh!
01:15:57Why are you better at this than me?
01:16:00Yeah.
01:16:02Beginner's luck.
01:16:06Dude, there's an alligator right here.
01:16:12Hey, hey, hey!
01:16:13Hey!
01:16:15It's gone.
01:16:1810-foot gators.
01:16:19I'm walking 10 feet away from you.
01:16:21Let's get the out of here.
01:16:24Let's get the out of here.
01:16:35How you doing, kid?
01:16:37Fine.
01:16:37We just have today to get through.
01:16:39We're good.
01:16:40It's day 21, extraction day.
01:16:42Hey, we're out of here.
01:16:44Back to real life.
01:16:46We're leaving the pot, right?
01:16:48Yeah.
01:16:49Let's leave it.
01:16:49I don't want to carry all that water.
01:16:51Like, I'm as hydrated as I've been since I got here.
01:16:54Yeah.
01:16:54I can't get any more.
01:16:56You can't get any more down?
01:16:57No.
01:16:57All right.
01:16:58Day 21, baby.
01:17:00Out of here.
01:17:01Man, what a journey it's been.
01:17:02What an adventure.
01:17:03So we're right here.
01:17:05Looks like we're headed right out of that way.
01:17:07It looks like marsh.
01:17:08Yeah, this is definitely going to be a marsh lens.
01:17:10Let's go.
01:17:10All right.
01:17:11Super excited to get home.
01:17:14Woo!
01:17:15Super excited to eat some real food, talk to my family,
01:17:18and just conquer this challenge right here.
01:17:21Let's go.
01:17:21Let's get it.
01:17:23To reach their extraction point,
01:17:25Kyle and Danny face a difficult four-mile trek northeast
01:17:28through dense Everglades,
01:17:30where extreme humidity from recent rains
01:17:32will send heat index levels soaring into the triple digits.
01:17:35The rise in water levels means increased hunting activity
01:17:39from the area's predatory alligators
01:17:41and a proliferation of venomous water snakes,
01:17:44including the Florida cottonmouth.
01:17:47Named for their white cotton-lined mouth,
01:17:49they can strike in less than a third of a second,
01:17:52injecting a lethal dose of venom
01:17:53that damages blood cells and tissue,
01:17:56immobilizing its prey.
01:18:03The grass is getting taller.
01:18:04Watch out for snakes, dude.
01:18:07Yeah, I mean, they're all around here.
01:18:10The higher grass makes me a little more nervous.
01:18:13Watch out.
01:18:14Look at that anthill, dude.
01:18:16If you step on that, your foot is done.
01:18:18Yeah, we're toasted.
01:18:20There's a bunch of those nests around, too.
01:18:22Yeah, I see them everywhere.
01:18:35Looks like it's going to be a little bit of marshy up here.
01:18:37Yep.
01:18:38Got to watch out for moccasins and gators.
01:18:41This is nerve-wracking,
01:18:43because you don't know what's under your feet.
01:18:45This is the home of many venomous snakes.
01:18:48This is prime snake land right here.
01:18:51As counterintuitive as it may seem,
01:18:53try to stay in the, like, water areas.
01:18:55The grass is where some of them will lay.
01:18:57Okay.
01:18:58Every single step I take,
01:18:59I have to keep one eye on the ground,
01:19:01one eye ahead of me,
01:19:02and make sure there are no snakes around me.
01:19:07Looks like the vegetation changes again real quick.
01:19:25The sun's cooking.
01:19:28I've been on this hike for a while.
01:19:31Definitely tired.
01:19:34Getting really hot.
01:19:36Sun's starting to heat up.
01:19:45I'm a lot more tired and a lot more dehydrated
01:19:49faster than I thought I'd be.
01:19:51Stop for a minute.
01:19:52Okay.
01:19:57Dehydration's real,
01:19:58even though we hydrated before.
01:20:00Starting to get a headache, for sure.
01:20:03I'd be lying if I said this hasn't been very difficult.
01:20:07I think the only thing that's getting me through right now
01:20:09is my kids' wife.
01:20:11That's what's really pushing me and motivating me right now.
01:20:13I'm just ready for it to be done.
01:20:16This hike is extremely brutal.
01:20:18I've hit a physical wall,
01:20:19but no matter how I'm feeling physically,
01:20:21there's no way I'm not finishing this.
01:20:26Ready?
01:20:27Yep.
01:20:27Let's get to it.
01:20:37Got to be getting close.
01:20:39Yeah, we got to be getting close, bro.
01:20:41I'm so ready for this to be done.
01:20:43Hell yeah.
01:20:46What?
01:20:48Bro.
01:20:49Yes.
01:20:50What is that?
01:20:51That's got to be our extraction vehicle, dude.
01:20:54Yes, we made it, dude.
01:20:57This is it.
01:20:59Let's get the out of here.
01:21:01Woo!
01:21:02We did it.
01:21:03Woo!
01:21:04I'm so excited to see my extraction vehicle,
01:21:06a big-ass swamp buggy.
01:21:08Woo!
01:21:08This is the moment I've been dreaming about.
01:21:11It's all worth it.
01:21:12So proud of you.
01:21:13Good job, dude.
01:21:14I'm proud of you, dude.
01:21:15Hell yeah.
01:21:15That was awesome.
01:21:19I'm so proud of you, dude.
01:21:21Yeah.
01:21:21Yeah, I know I've said it.
01:21:23You've been positive this whole time.
01:21:25Yeah, it was a challenge for me, like, conscious thoughts the entire time.
01:21:29But equally, man, like, I'm super proud of you.
01:21:31You went four days without me.
01:21:33I know I'm capable of these challenges, and yeah, I got to prove it with a partner,
01:21:37but also I've gotten to prove myself independently when I was alone, and that's amazing.
01:21:44Dude, honestly, I couldn't be more proud of you.
01:21:47I'm extremely proud of myself.
01:21:49I do these challenges to prove to myself that I'm able to accomplish things that not many
01:21:55people can.
01:21:55And I've done the 14-day fan challenge.
01:21:58I've now done the 21-day challenge.
01:22:01I feel like it's given me the confidence to know I can take on something much more difficult.
01:22:06I'm ready for the longer challenges, the 40, the 60-day, bring them on.
01:22:11After 21 days, Dani lost a total of 28 pounds and sees her primitive survival rating rise from
01:22:177.1 to 7.9.
01:22:20This challenge, for me, put the word gratitude back into my vocabulary in many ways.
01:22:25Right now, I feel more mentally clear than I have in years.
01:22:28I feel more physically strong than I have in years, and I feel more proud of myself than
01:22:33I have in years.
01:22:34I came out here on 20 hours' notice.
01:22:36I've been saying it anytime, anywhere, and not only did I come down here to survive, I came
01:22:40down and thrive, put it on full display if I am who I think I am.
01:22:43Super proud of that.
01:22:44Right now, I'm so happy about conquering the Everglades.
01:22:47Yeah.
01:22:47This challenge, to me, meant an opportunity to redefine myself.
01:22:52This was probably the hardest thing I've done in my adult life.
01:22:55This environment is no joke.
01:22:56No matter what was thrown at me, I was able to adapt and overcome it.
01:22:59Coming out of this challenge, I've really gained a lot of self-confidence.
01:23:02It gave me an opportunity to cement myself as the man I hope to be.
01:23:07After surviving 17 days, Kyle shed 35 pounds, and his PSR rises from 6.8 to 7.5.
01:23:16This is just awesome.
01:23:20You might want to put those arms down, though.
01:23:22Yeah.
01:23:24Oh, you don't want to smell me?
01:23:25No.
01:23:27Not anymore.
01:23:28I'm ready for a shower.
01:23:30Woo!
01:23:31Woo!
