00:00Hello, I'm Jeremy Vine, and you don't have to have a huge pulsating brain to be on this show, but
00:05it helps.
00:06This is Celebrity Puzzling!
00:24Welcome to Celebrity Puzzling.
00:26It's me again, I work here full-time, but who else will be joining me for my shift?
00:29Well, you know the answer.
00:31Our two team captains are here to roll up their sleeves, and Carol will reveal a tattoo dedicated to long
00:39division.
00:40Welcome, Carol Vorderman.
00:43Wow.
00:44And speaking of division, her foe, as always, is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma, the sensational
00:50Sally Lindsay.
00:54We've also worked in two celebrity guests tonight.
00:56They assure us they're seasoned puzzlers, so let's hope they were telling the truth.
01:00Joining Carol is a woman who's been to all seven continents.
01:04Big deal.
01:04Carol knows all 21 consonants.
01:07It's Kate Humble!
01:10And with Sally is a comedian and writer who wrote a series of young Bond novels.
01:15He's got a licence to thrill.
01:17It's Charlie Hegson.
01:18Yes!
01:20So now, Kate, what can you say, because you're filming with the Navy.
01:24I've just finished filming with them.
01:26It will be a series called Warship, and it was the most fascinating insight into life on board a warship.
01:37Was there any bother?
01:38There was actually a little bit of bother.
01:40You know, we all sit here thinking that, you know, life's kind of pretty okay on our gorgeous little island
01:47that we live on.
01:49Thanks to the Navy, we think it's okay.
01:51But yes, there was a little bit of bother involving a submarine.
01:56Thanks to the Navy, the submarine was gently escorted away and out of trouble.
02:03Wow.
02:03Yeah.
02:04And, Charlie, you're an expert in Bond.
02:06He was a, I think I've got this right, commander in the British Navy.
02:11Is that the official rank of Bond?
02:12That was his rank, yes, in the books.
02:15And they used it in some of the films as well.
02:17And what's fascinating about you, because I love your Bond obsession, is that they're getting someone in a TV drama
02:22to play the part of the man who inspired the creation of Bond.
02:26Yes.
02:26And you played that man.
02:27Yes, I have played James Bond.
02:29Woo-hoo!
02:30So there's a real, is there a real person called James Bond?
02:33There was.
02:33He was an American ornithologist.
02:34He wrote a book called Birds of the West Indies.
02:37And Ian Fleming had it above his desk in his house that he built for himself in Jamaica.
02:41And the story goes, he was trying to think of a really simple, blunt name for his character.
02:48And he looked across his books, thought, James Bond, that would work well.
02:51Wow.
02:52And I was commissioned to write a Miss Marple, the Caribbean mystery, where she goes to the Caribbean.
02:59And the producer said, we try and, if we can, work in a real-life character into these stories.
03:04That's why we would like you to write it, because could you work Ian Fleming into the story?
03:08So I write a scene where there's a talk being given by an ornithologist, and Ian Fleming turns up to
03:13the talk.
03:13And the producer said to me, well, Charlie, why don't you come and play James Bond?
03:18Oh!
03:19So I got to go up with my slideshow and say, good evening, my name is Bond, James Bond.
03:27Oh!
03:28Isn't that great?
03:29So does that make all of us Bond girls?
03:31Yes!
03:32Even me.
03:33Even me.
03:35All right.
03:35In every episode, our teams face a selection box of half a dozen rounds, meaning no two contests are ever
03:41the same.
03:41Players, you'll be trying to score as many points as possible, which is important, because you will want to win
03:46the game.
03:47So if you get a good lead into the final round, Answer Bank, that's useful, because Answer Bank can throw
03:52everything.
03:53For our winning celebrity guests, the wonders don't cease, because they'll also win the much sought-after by some celebrities.
04:00It's too much.
04:00Celebrity puzzling, puzzling cube.
04:04There we are.
04:05So there it is.
04:06The plinth is not available for hire or for sale.
04:11OK, that's enough exposition.
04:12Off we go with round one.
04:13Our first puzzle is a bit like hide-and-seek, although it's not really that much, because it's hidden answer.
04:21Here's how it works.
04:22In this game, the answer will be there right in front of you, although sadly it's a bit jumbled up.
04:25So you see the puzzle word on the left, in this case fastball, and then the clue on the right,
04:30film award.
04:31And the film award is inside fastball somewhere.
04:35This is just the example.
04:36You want to shout it out?
04:38BAFTA.
04:39BAFTA.
04:41Yes.
04:42Nice day.
04:43That was an example, but let's do it for real.
04:45OK, Carol and Kate come first.
04:47Here's your first one.
04:50Nakedness reptile.
04:51Ah, this is one for you, Kate.
04:52Reptile is the clue.
04:55It's a snake.
04:57Oh, what?
04:58Oh, she's fast.
04:59How fast was that?
05:00Yes.
05:01Is the word snake inside the word nakedness?
05:06Yes, it is.
05:07Well done.
05:08Sally and Charlie, it's your turn.
05:10This is yours.
05:12Table, cloth, dance style.
05:14The clue is dance style.
05:16Dance style.
05:16Let's go through, waltz, and it's not waltz, it's cha-cha, ballet.
05:23Ballet.
05:24Ballet.
05:24Oh, yes.
05:25Is it ballet?
05:26It's for you.
05:27Of course it is.
05:27It's ballet.
05:28Well done.
05:30Get ready.
05:31Carol and Kate, here's the next one.
05:33Nailbrush toilet.
05:35Something in the word is tempting just to go brush.
05:38But it's not.
05:39The cistern, toilet brush, toilet paper.
05:43Not flush.
05:45Oh, flush.
05:46Yeah, no.
05:47Do you have a lush toilet?
05:49No.
05:50I mean, the only thing I can...
05:51It's not going to be brush, is it?
05:54Toilet rail, no.
05:56No.
05:56We might hear the timer go in a second.
05:58OK, let's say brush.
06:00Is it brush?
06:02Oh!
06:03There's got to be a level of jumble.
06:05So, Charlie, Sally, if you've got an answer, I do need it now.
06:09The steal has to be quick.
06:10I can't think of anything, can you?
06:12I've got nail brush.
06:15Yeah?
06:16Nail brush.
06:16I like your nail brush.
06:20No.
06:21It's urinal.
06:23Oh!
06:24That's a hard one.
06:25I was staring at that.
06:27So, urinal, is it a chance for Sally and Charlie to go into the lead?
06:31Let's see.
06:32OK, yours is encouraging water sport, and water sport is the clue.
06:39C-A-N-O-E.
06:41Canoeing?
06:42Canoe it.
06:43Yeah, canoeing.
06:44Canoeing.
06:45Is it right?
06:46Yes, it is.
06:47Well done.
06:48Oh, I think.
06:49It's amazing.
06:50There's a lot of letters, isn't it?
06:51Canoeing.
06:51Yeah, it does.
06:52Yeah, very good.
06:52Yeah.
06:53OK, Carol, Kate, here's your final one, so if you can get back into it.
06:57Your puzzle, Cannelloni-Spielberg film.
07:01I can only now think of E.T.
07:04Um...
07:04And it's not even that, is it?
07:07OK, it's obviously not Schindler's list.
07:10It's obviously not Jules.
07:12Is it just lion?
07:14Is it?
07:15Lion.
07:16Yeah.
07:17Lion or Leon or...
07:19Do you want to give me a guess?
07:21Say it.
07:22Let's just say...
07:23Oh!
07:24I'm saying lion.
07:26Is lion the answer?
07:29No.
07:30Well, this is interesting, because you can steal for a point.
07:32Well, famously, the film with two letters, initials,
07:37it's not E.T., it's A.I.
07:39Is it A.I.?
07:41No.
07:42So, let's see the answer.
07:45Lincoln.
07:45Lincoln.
07:46A.I. is not acceptable.
07:49The title of the film is A.I. Artificial Intelligence.
07:52So...
07:53I'm going to check whether Lincoln has a subsequent phrase.
07:58Anyway, final hidden answer puzzle now for Sally and Charlie.
08:01Here you go.
08:02Globalised garden feature.
08:04The clue is garden feature.
08:07I'm going to use a Z.
08:08It's got to be.
08:11Gazebo.
08:12Oh, well done.
08:13Let's see if it's gazebo.
08:14Gazebo.
08:15Yeah.
08:16Good.
08:17That's right.
08:18So, let's see.
08:19This is interesting.
08:20At the end of that round, Carol and Kate have got two points.
08:23Oh, well...
08:24Sally and Charlie have got six.
08:26Oh!
08:27That's unusual.
08:28A very early lead like that.
08:30So, did you get any of those at home?
08:32Did you get Lincoln?
08:34Did you get your rhino?
08:35No.
08:36Did you?
08:36I've never said that on television before.
08:39This next round will take place over at the letterbox where our teams will face another
08:42of our unfeasibly difficult puzzles, but this time they can play without the pressure of
08:47their opponents, gabbing away next to them.
08:49So, going first is Carol and Kate, and the game you're playing tonight is Initial Reaction.
08:56OK, Kate, you're going to enjoy this.
08:57You're going to see a series of pictures.
08:59You're looking for the initials to each picture, just a letter, which in turn will spell out
09:03the word.
09:03To give you more help, there'll be a clue to narrow things down.
09:06So, here it's messages.
09:08So, what's that?
09:09A squirrel?
09:09Squirrel.
09:10S?
09:11Yeah.
09:11High jump?
09:12Spam.
09:13Pole vault.
09:13That is definitely not the height.
09:14That's the pole vault.
09:16Alarm.
09:16Alarm.
09:17Spam.
09:17Martini.
09:18Spam.
09:19Spam.
09:19Oh, OK.
09:20Messages spam.
09:21So, it's as easy as that, you're against the clock, you score three if you solve the
09:26puzzle.
09:26You'll have one full alphabet to play with.
09:29So, Carol and Kate, first, head on over to the letterbox to play Initial Reaction.
09:36Don't forget to hit the button when you've given your answer.
09:38Carol and Kate, here's your first puzzle.
09:40Your time starts now.
09:42OK, sports equipment.
09:44OK, so, that's a K.
09:46That's a P for a peach.
09:48That's a C for a crown.
09:49It's got to be Puck, Puck, Puck, Puck, Puck, Puck, Puck, Puck.
09:52USA.
09:53Yes.
09:54Yeah, Puck you've got.
09:55Well done.
09:56Terrific.
09:57OK, your second puzzle will have five letters to find.
10:00It's worth four points this time.
10:01Here it is.
10:02Your time starts now.
10:05River.
10:06OK.
10:06Who's that?
10:07I've no idea who that is.
10:09Who is it?
10:10No, I don't know.
10:11Ariel.
10:14That's garlic.
10:16Oh, where's the G?
10:17Use G.
10:18Oh, so that's going to maybe oven glove.
10:19So maybe that's an O.
10:20Or a C.
10:21So put that there.
10:22Oven glove.
10:23So.
10:24Clothes.
10:25Oh.
10:26Oh, clothes.
10:27Yeah.
10:28Oh.
10:28Those are lungs.
10:30So it's a river, remember?
10:33Volga.
10:33Lungs.
10:34So, vulga.
10:35Yeah, I don't know who he is.
10:36No, but it doesn't matter.
10:38It's going to be a vulga.
10:40Is it vulga?
10:41Yes, it is.
10:42So, OK, we'll come back to that.
10:44O for oven glove, L for lungs, G for garlic, not cloves, and Ariel.
10:49It's Vin Diesel.
10:51Is it?
10:51Is it?
10:52It's our Vin.
10:52Well, I wouldn't know him.
10:54All right, well done.
10:55Volga.
10:55In Russia, your final puzzle has six letters to find, so it's getting harder.
11:00However, it's going to be worth a bump of five points if you're ready.
11:03Your time starts now.
11:05Questions.
11:06So, I patch all people.
11:10Yoga.
11:11Yeah.
11:13That's going to be memory stick.
11:17Where's the M?
11:17I've got that.
11:18Van.
11:20Van.
11:22Questions.
11:23What's his name?
11:25Pan.
11:26Pan.
11:27Or it could be saucepan.
11:29Yeah.
11:30Yes.
11:31S-M.
11:33Oh, what's his name?
11:36Roger Federer.
11:37Oh, blimey.
11:38Okay.
11:38Hang on.
11:39Roger, he's R then.
11:40So, that doesn't make any sense.
11:41So, that's a USB, is it?
11:43Oh.
11:44Survey, have we got it?
11:46As you were just out, you put it down on the red.
11:50You're absolutely right.
11:51With Van, with Eyepatch, with Yoga.
11:53Those are all good answers.
11:55Roger held you up a bit.
11:56Yes.
11:57He did.
11:58Second serve.
11:58You see, I never, ever watch tennis.
12:00But he is...
12:01I know.
12:02I know he's amazing.
12:02I'm not really, but he is kind of an amazing Swiss person.
12:05Yes.
12:05Well, look, somewhere in Switzerland, there's a game show where Roger Federer is playing
12:09and he's failed to recognise a picture of you, so...
12:12It's Ronald, okay?
12:14And, yeah, that is a USB, yeah.
12:16Okay, well done.
12:17How did you get on at home?
12:18Good effort, Carol and Kate.
12:20You just missed the last one, but your trip to the letterbox has scored you seven points,
12:24which is damn good.
12:25Sally and Charlie, can you beat seven?
12:27We're going to give it a go.
12:28Do you know what?
12:29That was so frustrating, wasn't it?
12:31Yeah.
12:31Questions, survey.
12:33Okay, time for a quick break.
12:35If you'd like your time well wasted, do stay tuned for more celebrity puzzling right after this.
12:43If you want to keep puzzling, see if you can complete the vertical word to solve this thirdle.
12:48All will be revealed after the break.
12:57Puzzlers, did you manage to complete the thirdle?
13:01If you did, great puzzling.
13:06Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
13:08I'm Jeremy Vine.
13:08I'm very happy to be your host.
13:09My team, Captains Carol and Sally, are being helped out by Kate Humble and Charlie Hickson.
13:14Now it's Sally and Charlie's turn at the letterbox playing Initial Reaction.
13:17Remember, you're going to see four pictures.
13:19Your job is to work out what they are and then take the initials from each word, dispel the answer.
13:23You'll score three points if you solve this first puzzle.
13:26You're against the clock, so be sure, but be quick.
13:29Here's your first puzzle.
13:30Your time starts now.
13:32Okay.
13:33Animal.
13:33Animal.
13:37Frankie goes to Hollywood.
13:38Oh, good spot, if that's true.
13:41Rhinocinus.
13:41So, animal.
13:42Oh, for organ.
13:44Oh, okay.
13:45So...
13:45And that must be...
13:46Frog.
13:46Goalkeeper.
13:47Frog.
13:48Yes.
13:49I think I can't fool you out.
13:50You recognise that 80s band so quickly.
13:52Oh, I love Folly Johnson.
13:53I'm a massive, massive fan of Folly Johnson to this day.
13:55He's a good solo artist still.
13:56He's brilliant.
13:57He's amazing.
13:58Answer is Frog.
13:59Your second puzzle will have five letters to find.
14:01It's worth four points.
14:02Your time starts now.
14:04Okay.
14:06Clue, local politics.
14:07So, it's, um, what's in my Millie Bollie...
14:09Millie...
14:10Millie Bobby Brown?
14:11Millie Bobby Brown, yes.
14:12So, that's M.
14:13Good job.
14:15That's an artichoke.
14:16Oh, that's a yurt.
14:17And that's an old English sheepdog.
14:20Ah, that's a rocking chair.
14:22So, get the...
14:22It's a mare.
14:23It's a mare.
14:23It's a mare.
14:25Oh, it must be a mare.
14:27You made that look easy.
14:28I don't think it was that easy.
14:29I've got to say, I didn't know what that was.
14:31No.
14:31I'm not posh enough for that.
14:32Never been glamping.
14:33I've never been glamping, no.
14:34We can confirm that.
14:35I've got a house.
14:37Millie Bobby Brown's Stranger Things.
14:40Artichoke.
14:41Yurt.
14:42Very good, Charlie.
14:43Old English sheepdog.
14:44Oh, yeah.
14:45Again, that's part of British history.
14:46Oh, do you look like that?
14:47Yeah, that's why I know that one, yeah.
14:48Yeah.
14:48Old English sheepdog, and they are beautiful.
14:50And rocking chair.
14:51Well done.
14:52Mare is the answer.
14:53Excellent work.
14:53Now, this is interesting, because at this point, the other two, despite having genius-level intellect,
14:59faltered, this is your chance.
15:01You're already playing well with Swiss Tony.
15:04Can I call you that if you get four points in a round just once?
15:07Yes.
15:07Can I just do it once?
15:08I'll give you permission.
15:09And can you then do your impression?
15:11If you like.
15:12OK.
15:12There's a lot riding on this, Charlie.
15:13It's worth a bumper five points, this next one.
15:15If you're ready, your time starts now.
15:17OK.
15:18Musical instruments.
15:19Musical instruments.
15:20Ghost.
15:21Underpants.
15:22Tom Hardy here.
15:24Underpants.
15:24Another good one.
15:25That looks like an R for a ring.
15:28A for aquarium.
15:29Oh, yeah.
15:29I know what it is.
15:30It's a guitar.
15:31With the A?
15:32Yeah.
15:33Because that's something.
15:34I don't know what it is.
15:34Aquarium.
15:35Oh, that's what it is.
15:36Oh, so G for ghosts.
15:39Italy.
15:40Tom Hardy.
15:41Yeah, but he's a good actor.
15:43Aquarium.
15:44R for ring.
15:45Musical instrument.
15:46Guitar.
15:46You've won that with maximum points.
15:48Will you now accept the honour of winning as Swiss Tony?
15:53Yes.
15:54Playing the guitar is very much like making love to a beautiful woman.
16:00Please head back to your seats.
16:02We'll look at the scoreboards.
16:09So, how many points did you rack up at home?
16:11Well done.
16:11Sally and Charlie, your visit to the letterbox scored you 12, the maximum.
16:15Well done.
16:16So, we see what it's done to the overall scores.
16:19Carol and Kate have nine.
16:21Sally and Charlie, 18.
16:23Oh, OK.
16:24Are you sure?
16:25OK.
16:26A minute, really.
16:27OK.
16:27This round will test if you can crack codes.
16:30Its code name is cipher.
16:34So, we'll have a look at an example here.
16:36I'm going to give you a category clue and then show you the puzzle you have to solve,
16:39which is concealed by a code of symbols.
16:41If you get it straight away, you'll bag three points.
16:43If you say, I can't do this, I need a letter, I can do this.
16:46OK, for two points, I'll give you this letter.
16:49So, we know it starts with a C.
16:51And then we say, anyone struggling still?
16:53Let's have another letter.
16:54Let's have another letter, says Carol, to help me.
16:56And then we know that's an S.
16:57Oh, castanets, castanets.
16:59Of course it is.
16:59OK, so Charlie says castanets, then he's right.
17:01Very good.
17:02Sally and Charlie, if you're ready to play your first cipher.
17:05So, we're playing as teams here.
17:08So, we've got a six-letter word and a three-letter word, a sitcom.
17:11OK.
17:12Sitcom.
17:12So, let's think of some sitcoms.
17:14Come on, we should be able to do this.
17:15Yes.
17:16There's a lot to choose from.
17:18So, let's think of American ones.
17:21Office.
17:22I think of that three-letter word and the second word.
17:25OK, let's have a letter.
17:26All right, I'll give you a letter.
17:28Goes down to two points.
17:29We're giving you the poo.
17:30The poo is a T.
17:32What's that second word?
17:33I don't know.
17:34That's a thing, isn't it?
17:38OK, let me get the other one.
17:40OK, get the other letter, then.
17:42Down to one point now.
17:44And that's an F, so it starts with an F.
17:46It's Father Ted.
17:47Oh, of course it is.
17:49It's my favourite sitcom of all time.
17:52Let's have a look.
17:52Father Ted's.
17:53It's not a sitcom.
17:54Yeah, well done.
17:55Oh, Sally.
17:56Did you guys get that earlier?
17:57Did you see that?
17:58No.
17:59OK, here's the first one for Carol and Kate.
18:02All right.
18:02Oh.
18:03So, it's a five-letter word.
18:05What were we saying earlier?
18:08We went...
18:08We were saying...
18:09We don't know anything about footballers.
18:12I mean, seriously, I literally don't know.
18:15Shall we have a letter?
18:16By all means, would you like one?
18:17Have a letter.
18:18OK, so it was three.
18:18It goes down to two now.
18:20I've given you a letter.
18:20And the letter is...
18:21We don't have all of the letters, please.
18:23Oh, OK.
18:24Maybe that helps.
18:25Le blank.
18:26No, Matt Le...
18:28Matt Le...
18:29No, he's an actor.
18:30I think there was someone listening up.
18:32Kevin Le...
18:33Not a clue, have we?
18:35No, we haven't got a clue.
18:36Let's have another letter.
18:37OK, all right.
18:38Another letter, please.
18:41Kevin...
18:42It's not, obviously.
18:43I'm sorry to do this to you.
18:45Yeah.
18:45Kevin Le Brine.
18:47OK, is it Kevin Le Brine?
18:52Sally and Charlie, you can steal it.
18:55We've had Kevin Le Brine.
19:00Kevin Le...
19:01Something, innit?
19:02OK, Kevin Le something.
19:04No.
19:05The reason I'm laughing is that just by virtue of the massive brain of Vorders,
19:09you got unbelievably close to Kevin De Bruyne.
19:14It's Kevin De Bruyne.
19:15Yes, it is.
19:16He was a Man City player.
19:17He is, yeah, I should have known that.
19:19OK, it's Charlie and Sally's Your Next Cipher.
19:23Six letters and then five.
19:25Soft conflict.
19:27Soft conflict.
19:28So that's the same letter.
19:31And obviously that's a double letter.
19:33Battle.
19:36Could be battle.
19:39I can give you a letter.
19:40Get a letter, please.
19:41OK, letter, please.
19:43So it goes down to two points.
19:44And that is a double L, so it's not battle.
19:48Ballet.
19:52Ballet?
19:57We've got another letter, please.
19:59Another letter?
20:00For one point now.
20:02That's an I.
20:03Soft conflict means it then.
20:06Soft conflict?
20:07Kill.
20:09Oh, OK.
20:10Is it killer something?
20:13Killer what?
20:14Time is ticking down.
20:16Soft conflict.
20:17Killer.
20:18Killer kicks.
20:20Killer kicks.
20:21It can't be the same.
20:22Is it killer kicks?
20:22No, it's not.
20:23You can steal.
20:24Oh, yes.
20:25You know it.
20:25We do.
20:26We do.
20:27Go on.
20:28Pillow fight.
20:29Is it pillow fights?
20:31Well done.
20:31Soft conflict, yeah.
20:33Oh, that's a nice little crossword clue type of question.
20:36I like those.
20:37Over to Carol and Kate now for your next cipher.
20:40We don't want any other footballing references.
20:43Rugby references.
20:44OK, let's see what we've got now.
20:46So, this category is comedian.
20:50Ah.
20:50Four letters and then six.
20:53OK, they will know.
20:55If it's not Paul Whitehouse, but it could be Paul.
20:58So, the cat is...
21:01Oh, you would have that one.
21:01Yeah.
21:01The ladybug.
21:03Would you like a letter?
21:05Yes.
21:05Yes, please.
21:06OK, let's give you one.
21:08The cat is an H.
21:11Oh.
21:13Erm.
21:14Comedian.
21:15Oh, Lord.
21:17Four letters, then six letters.
21:19It's really hard, isn't it?
21:19Yeah.
21:22Have you got another letter?
21:24Yeah, go on.
21:25Yeah, another letter, Jeremy, please.
21:26Another letter, please.
21:27Yeah.
21:27Goes down to one point now.
21:29John.
21:30Oh.
21:32Liverpool.
21:33Bishop.
21:35Yes, thank you.
21:36John Bishop.
21:37Is that the right answer?
21:39The ladybirds look good.
21:40Yes, John Bishop.
21:42Well done.
21:42The level might get harder again.
21:44For your final ones.
21:46So, this is yours, Sally and Charlie.
21:49So, ooh, mystery genre.
21:51One, two, three.
21:52Nine letters.
21:54Er, mystery genre.
21:56Throw a line.
21:57Erm.
21:58Who done it?
22:00Yeah.
22:01No.
22:02Who?
22:03No, it's not.
22:04Yeah.
22:04It is.
22:04W-H-O-D-U-N-I-N-I.
22:06Who done it?
22:08Is it?
22:08We're going to go for who done it.
22:10Is it who done it?
22:11Yeah.
22:13I know it's really well done, I do.
22:15Because the double end there is a funny way to play.
22:17And I never know whether it's one N or two Ns.
22:19OK, the final cipher to solve for Carol and Kate is coming now.
22:23So, there we are.
22:24We've got a six-letter word and a five-letter word, and it's hippies.
22:28Four doubles.
22:32So, they sound the same, if you like.
22:37Is it something?
22:40Oh, good grief.
22:43Hippies.
22:45I've no idea.
22:46Do you want a letter?
22:47Yes.
22:47Yes. Put it out of our misery.
22:49Here we go. It goes down from three points to two.
22:51Your letter is...
22:52The square root is an O.
22:54Oh.
22:54And the same letter after the O both times.
22:58I've no idea.
22:59In fact, the same two letters.
23:01The same three letters after the O.
23:03OK.
23:04Yeah.
23:04Let's have another one.
23:07R at the end of both words.
23:09So, I can only think...
23:10I think beatniks, which it obviously isn't.
23:15Um...
23:16For some reason, I'm just thinking of Neil from The Young Ones.
23:20Everything buzz is going to come to us soon.
23:22I have no idea.
23:24Go on, you steal, if you can.
23:25Go on.
23:26Charney.
23:26Go on, you say.
23:27Sally.
23:28Flower power, man.
23:29Oh.
23:29Let's see.
23:30Flower power.
23:30I won't have got that.
23:31Yeah.
23:33It's that thing of the last four letters of both words is the same.
23:37And you're thinking, hang on.
23:38At the end of that round, let's see the scores.
23:41Carol and Kate have got 11.
23:43Oh.
23:44Yes.
23:45Remarkable.
23:46Sally and Charlie have broken 20.
23:48They're on 23.
23:49Oh.
23:51Charlie's got his eye in here.
23:53As has Sally.
23:54I'm not with De Bruyne, you haven't.
23:55Well, the Kevin De Bruyne we can put behind us now.
23:58No, you don't understand.
23:59I can never go back to Manchester again.
24:01Well, just say Kevin Le Brine is a well-known footballer.
24:05OK?
24:06Yeah, but you say something.
24:07Poor old...
24:08I wasn't far off.
24:09It wasn't mocking.
24:10I was actually just amazed at the way you played it.
24:12Yeah.
24:13If you're playing at home, did you outscore our celebrities?
24:15Well done if you did.
24:16OK, too much puzzling in one go isn't good for anyone,
24:19so we take a short break now.
24:20But stay with us for part three after these messages.
24:27If you want to keep puzzling,
24:28see if you can pick which letter to move one space up or down
24:31in the alphabet to solve this up or down puzzle.
24:34Best of luck.
24:41Have you figured out which letter to move
24:43to solve this up or down puzzle?
24:46If you did, well done.
24:50Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling tonight.
24:52Our dear leaders, Carol and Sally,
24:54are still battling it out for puzzling supremacy.
24:57Charlie Hickson and Kate Humble
24:58are the poor celebrities caught in the crossfire.
25:01So, Sally, tactically strong tonight?
25:05Yeah.
25:05Strong by accident.
25:07No.
25:07No.
25:08Because there's two, I've let myself down a little bit,
25:10but I won't next time.
25:12What do you think, Carol, at this point,
25:13are we going to possibly change formation?
25:17Um, I think it's time for a head-to-head
25:20and I think Kate's going to do very well on this.
25:22Well, I'm glad you said that.
25:23It's time to put Kate and Charlie to the ultimate puzzling test.
25:27The game is Join the Dots.
25:31So, on the screen, you'll be shown a puzzle
25:33consisting of a category and a series of dots.
25:35Let's give one a spin.
25:37We see the category New York Borough
25:38and on my cue, the lines will start to appear.
25:41You guys will know it, maybe.
25:42It's got it, Brooklyn.
25:43So, Brooklyn says, Kate, let's have a look.
25:46Is Brooklyn right? Yes, it is.
25:47Well done if you got that at home,
25:48but not if you did so by a scrawling permanent marker
25:51all over your telly.
25:53Basically cheating and ruining your telly.
25:56In this round, the first player to buzz in
25:58and give the correct answer.
25:59We'll score two points.
26:00So, be quick, be right.
26:01Here's the first one.
26:03Fingers on buzzers.
26:05Artist is the clue.
26:07Looks like two words.
26:10Lines are moving.
26:11Buzz when you know.
26:17Charlie!
26:18Oh, it didn't take me so long.
26:20Grayson Perry.
26:21Let's see.
26:22Yeah.
26:23Grayson Perry.
26:24Genius.
26:25OK, fingers on buzzers.
26:26Here's your next one.
26:28Ballet.
26:30Two words, it looks like.
26:33Kate?
26:34I'm going to go Swan Lake.
26:36Kate goes Swan Lake.
26:37Let's see.
26:38I thought you were...
26:39Swan Lake.
26:41Swan Lake.
26:43Get ready.
26:44Here's the next.
26:46Cocktail.
26:48Ooh.
26:49Oh.
26:51Charlie.
26:53Old-fashioned.
26:54Old-fashioned, he said.
26:56Let's see if that's right.
26:57And it completes.
26:59That it is.
27:00Old-fashioned.
27:01Action stations.
27:02Time for another.
27:03Classic film.
27:05Ooh.
27:06Two words.
27:09Oh.
27:11Charlie.
27:12Taxi driver.
27:13Taxi driver, he says.
27:15It's really helpful, me going.
27:16Oh, no.
27:17Yeah, so I heard you exhale.
27:19I'm so helpful.
27:20Let's see if it's right.
27:21Yeah.
27:22Sorry, there we go.
27:24Here's your final one.
27:25Both playing well.
27:26Food innovation.
27:28Oh.
27:29Oh.
27:31Ah.
27:34Oh, they're all joining.
27:35Two words.
27:37Seems to be nice there.
27:39Yes.
27:39Charlie.
27:40Sliced bread.
27:41Sliced bread.
27:42Is it right?
27:44Yeah.
27:46We're going back away from that one.
27:48Yeah.
27:49That was like the 1400s.
27:51Not exactly air fryer, is it?
27:53Well done, Kate and Charlie.
27:55Kate, you scored two points.
27:57Charlie scored eight.
27:58Now, let's see where this leaves the totals.
28:01Carol and Kate, 13.
28:04Sally and Charlie, an anagram, 31.
28:08Huh?
28:08Yeah.
28:09Or a palindrome, actually.
28:11Yeah, it is a palindrome.
28:14Our next puzzling round is all about making some shapes.
28:17It's called shapeshifters.
28:21You see an example of how this works.
28:23OK, you'll see a grid of answers, a question and a corresponding shape.
28:26Simply give me the correct answers that fit exactly inside that shape.
28:29You cannot rotate the shape.
28:31So here, just an example.
28:32Doctor Who enemies.
28:34I think Charlie has this little talk.
28:35Charlie?
28:36Well, the Daleks and the Sontarans.
28:38Let's see if that's the right answer.
28:40Yes.
28:41OK, we can then say, show us all the answers that would have counted if they'd been in the
28:47right position.
28:47And we get this, the master and the celestial toy maker.
28:51Right.
28:52Sally and Charlie, you're up first.
28:54That was just an example.
28:55Here's your puzzle for real.
28:57OK.
28:57For two points.
28:58So, Sally and Charlie, British seaside towns.
29:02OK.
29:03And it's look at the shape, one above the other.
29:05I'd say Eastbourne.
29:06Well, yeah, so Wrexham is inland, because I used to tent there.
29:12St. Ives is on the coast, but it can't be that shape, so it's got to be cut.
29:15Hereford's not.
29:16Dunford, no.
29:17So it's, yeah.
29:18Yeah, Eastbourne and Torquay.
29:20Eastbourne and Torquay, you say.
29:22Let's see if that's the right answer.
29:24Lee!
29:25Hey!
29:27So let's see.
29:28Yes, Eastbourne and Torquay are...
29:29Were any others on the sea?
29:31Western Supermare.
29:33Western Supermare and St. Ives.
29:35So you're quite right, the way you sorted that one through.
29:37Western Supermare in Somerset, Eastbourne, East Sussex, St. Ives, Cornwall,
29:41Torquay in Devon, the rest are not seaside towns.
29:44All right.
29:45Right.
29:46And, Carol, here we go.
29:47Your first shapeshifters puzzle.
29:49Category acts who've had a UK number one single.
29:52And it's two next to each other, side by side.
29:55Well, Kylie, obviously.
29:57Yeah.
29:59But Beyoncé and Eminem have both had number one singles.
30:02Have they had UK number one singles?
30:04I genuinely have no idea,
30:06because I would imagine most of them have.
30:08But which ones...
30:09Maybe Dolly hasn't had a number one.
30:11What do you think?
30:13Oh, you...
30:14I've lost everything so far.
30:16We're going Kylie and Charlene Spiteri in Texas.
30:21OK, so you're going Texas, Kylie Minogue.
30:23Yeah.
30:23And Kate was saying Beyoncé, Eminem.
30:25OK.
30:26Let's see if this is correct.
30:28Texas, Kylie Minogue.
30:30No.
30:31Chance to steal.
30:32I was convinced it was that.
30:33You were, too.
30:34You can steal for a point.
30:36Well, my first answer would have been Beyoncé and Eminem.
30:40Do it.
30:40Beyoncé and Eminem.
30:42To steal.
30:43Let's see.
30:43Oh, yes!
30:45Right!
30:46Oh, no, Kate said that.
30:48I wouldn't have said that.
30:49I know, I know.
30:50I heard you say it, Kate.
30:51So, let's just have a look.
30:53So, those ones count.
30:54Let's see if any others would have counted had they been in the right position.
30:59Kylie and Sabrina would have done.
31:01Beyoncé's had six.
31:03Eminem, 11.
31:04Kylie, seven.
31:06Sabrina Carpenter, three.
31:07Well done.
31:08OK.
31:08Sorry, Kate.
31:09Stolen by Sally and Charlie.
31:11Let's go to the next one.
31:12And this is for Sally and Charlie.
31:15Parts of a car engine.
31:16Oh, brilliant.
31:16We've got three in a row here.
31:17Three side by side.
31:19Parts of a car engine.
31:21Chassis isn't.
31:22So, a gearbox isn't.
31:26Driveshaft won't fit because we can't get three across.
31:29So, three across.
31:30Cylinders.
31:31All right.
31:32There we go.
31:33Seatbelt, chassis, driveshaft.
31:34Can't be that.
31:35Chassis, driveshaft, stereo.
31:36Can't be that.
31:37Crankshaft, cylinders, gearbox.
31:38Can't be that.
31:38It's got to be pistons, spark plugs, camshaft, whatever that is.
31:43OK.
31:44Is that the right answer?
31:46Yes, it is.
31:47Well done.
31:48Well done.
31:49So, would any others have counted if they'd been in the right place?
31:53Yes, driveshaft, cylinders, crankshaft.
31:55Carol and Kate for three points.
31:58Here's yours.
31:59Managers of the England...
32:01Oh, no!
32:02So unfair.
32:03No!
32:04So tight.
32:04Jeremy!
32:06It's...
32:07This is not right.
32:07Is Kevin De Bruyne up there?
32:09Oh, OK.
32:11So, I think...
32:12Go on, Kate.
32:14Get me off the hook here.
32:15Bobby Robson was.
32:17Yes.
32:17And I think John Barnes was.
32:18And I think Glenn Hoddle was.
32:20I think it's Don Revy, Bobby Robson and Michael Platini.
32:26Michelle...
32:27You see, I don't even know how to say his name.
32:29Right.
32:30Bobby Robson, Michelle Platini and Don Revy.
32:33Please let this be the right answer.
32:36Oh, no.
32:37Oh, for goodness sake.
32:39So, chance to steal.
32:40I've got a feat in the back of my mind somewhere.
32:43I think Roy Hodgson was.
32:45And I don't know why I think that.
32:46So, he's probably complete rubbish.
32:49But I'm going to go for Don Revy, Fabio Capelli and Roy Hodgson.
32:53And I'm so sorry.
32:53You're not a football guy either, Charlie?
32:56No.
32:56So, let's see.
32:57Is it Don Revy, Fabio Capelli and Roy Hodgson?
33:01Yes, it is.
33:05It's just one of those things.
33:07Oh, that's so difficult.
33:08So, were any others up there?
33:09You said Bobby Robson quite a lot.
33:11And Hoddle.
33:12Glenn Hoddle, I knew that.
33:13Not John Barnes.
33:14OK.
33:15Sally and Charlie, here's your final one.
33:17Slightly larger grids.
33:20People who've appeared on the bill.
33:22Apart from me.
33:24It's a trick one, this.
33:25It's a trick one.
33:26I think it is.
33:28How does it work?
33:29There's obviously a fan that's been on it.
33:33Do you know what?
33:34It could be Keira Knightley, like First Job.
33:36It could be.
33:37Keira Knightley, David Tennant, Sean Bean, all First Jobs.
33:40It has been going for 4,000 years.
33:42And I think I'm the only...
33:44That's not a bad shout.
33:45I think I'm the only actor that's not been on it.
33:47So, I'm going to go for just...
33:49Yeah, go on then.
33:50Process of elimination.
33:51Keira Knightley, David Tennant, Sean Bean, First Job Scenario.
33:55Probably wrong.
33:56Interesting.
33:57OK.
33:57Probably a trick question.
33:58I'm happy with that.
33:59Let's see if it's right.
34:00Keira Knightley, David Tennant, Sean Bean.
34:03Yes!
34:03Well done, you.
34:05Good shout.
34:06I can show you the others who have but weren't in the right places on the board.
34:11Catherine Tate, Martin Freeman, James McAvoy all have as well.
34:15Very good, Sally.
34:15Very good answer.
34:17Playing well tonight, the Sally team.
34:18Carol and Kate for three points.
34:20The comeback starts here.
34:22People who've got airports named after them.
34:25OK.
34:25And look at the formation.
34:26It's one, a diagonal, and then another diagonal.
34:29Three.
34:30Charles de Gaulle, obviously, in Paris.
34:32There is a John Wayne Airport just below Los Angeles.
34:38There is a Martin Luther King, I'm pretty sure.
34:41Is there a Bill Haley?
34:42In America, they are often called after the famous person who came from that town, if that makes sense.
34:51Yeah, it does.
34:51I mean, it sounds fairly likely that John Wayne, Martin Luther King, Bill Haley...
34:57Yeah, I think so.
34:58I think we'll go with John Wayne, Martin Luther King Jr., yeah, Martin Luther King, and Bill Haley.
35:06OK, let's see if that's the right answer.
35:10Oh, no!
35:11Charlie and Sally.
35:13How can that not be the answer?
35:16Well, should we go?
35:17There must be missing something.
35:18Well, let's go. We don't know.
35:20So, Mohamed Ali, Napoleon Bonaparte, and George Best.
35:23OK, is that the right answer?
35:26Oh, yeah.
35:27There we are.
35:29So, lots to say here.
35:31Would any others have counted had they been in the right position on the board?
35:35Yes, as we say, Charles de Gaulle, Paris.
35:37John Wayne, California.
35:39Yeah, yeah.
35:40And Rajiv Gandhi is in India, that's in Hyderabad.
35:43Then you've got Ali is Louisville, Kentucky.
35:47Anyone want to guess where Napoleon Bonaparte's airport is?
35:49Elba. Elba.
35:50Yeah, it's sort of that neck of the woods, it's Corsica.
35:52Of course it is, yeah.
35:55George Best, Belfast.
35:57At the end of that round, Carol and Kate are stranded a little bit here on 13.
36:01Yeah.
36:02Sally and Charlie have got 42.
36:05Whoa!
36:07So, there we go.
36:09Are you beating our celebrities so far?
36:11It's time for our penultimate round.
36:12It takes place at the summer's must-visit location, the Letterbox.
36:16Both teams will get a turn with the fastest team to solve their puzzle,
36:19receiving two bonus points.
36:20It's all to play for in Letterboxd Ladder.
36:24Let's see how it works.
36:26You've got to see three key words appear on the screen
36:27and in between a series of spaces
36:29where you've got to find the connections that link the words.
36:32So, broad something.
36:33Sword.
36:34Broad sword.
36:35Yeah.
36:35Sword fish.
36:36Eye.
36:37Fish eye.
36:38Fish eye.
36:39Eye witness.
36:40And then, and you can see, can you see at the top there,
36:42the letters that are given to you are the ones you need.
36:45Box.
36:46Yeah.
36:46Two points per solved word.
36:49If you complete all three words faster than your opponents,
36:51you will get two bonus points.
36:53Sally and Charlie, you're leading.
36:55Please head over to the Letterboxd to face your ladder.
36:59As soon as you solve the ladder,
37:01hit the button to stop the clock.

37:40Well done.
37:40Six points.
37:41We'll see if it's good enough for those bonus points
37:43after Carol and Kate have played.
37:44This is good.
37:45I want them to get the highest number ever.
37:49I was disappointed we didn't have three footballers down there.
37:52Just to eat the things up.
37:53Oh, do you know what, Jeremy?
37:54Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker.
37:55You should not just stand back if football comes up there.
37:58You should run out of the studio.
37:59I am going into battle.
38:01Now, before things bubble over, we need to have an ad break.
38:04After this, Carol and Kate will face their fate.
38:05They're going to have to go very, very fast to be in with a shout here.
38:09See you after this for the climax of tonight's Celebrity Puzzling.
38:16Here's a letterbox ladder for you to solve during the break.
38:19The two clues are linked by what missing word?
38:22Good luck figuring it out.
38:30Did you successfully conquer the letterbox ladder?
38:34If you solved it, well done.
38:39Oh, I'm just worrying about footballers coming in.
38:42Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.

41:02buzz in and give me the correct answer,
41:03which may be lateral, like a crossword clue.
