03:10more now like if that ends up being ottawa i'm not really sure that that's a prize you know um

03:17it ends up being like detroit is not in right now after all year they've been in and right now

03:29it because i think that's that looks to me to be the team that i would have the least i

04:40not like cider is not yet he he kind of needs what dalene has needed which is an elevation of

04:46team for everyone to kind of notice oh hey yeah they've got a guy that's you know big and mean

04:53moves really well and plays a 200 foot game patrolling their blue line but he's a relatively
04:58anonymous figure in the league to i think cat a lot of casual fans because detroit hasn't met anything
05:04much like buffalo hasn't met anything so there's good players there i just watching them they're the
05:10least impressive to me um the least threatening uh to me offensively like i just don't i don't feel
05:17like they've got a ton there um you know they do have they got a goalie with a big name

05:23know like a like a reputation he's never really won anything he's he's had a reputation for being great
05:28on bad teams mostly gibson this is his first time like in the cockpit with a team that has a

05:34something um they'll see if if that you know if that gets them anywhere if that gives them a leg

05:40you know whatever the sabers are doing here with this tandem or whichever one they choose
05:44um you know gibson doesn't have a lot of experience necessarily but he's you know again he's played a
05:51lot playoff experience i mean um but he's he's he's a name so about us is anything different
05:59i mean the goalies you just mentioned nothing has happened that would change any no i don't think so
06:04lion had his sort of blow up game last night maybe if you want to you know compare his five
06:09or six given up last night to lukin in a couple sundays before against tampa so they've had they've
06:16had that they of course were both a part of back-to-back shutouts uh earlier on this trip
06:21um no i don't think anything has changed there um the one thing i would say i mean they only

06:28one goal in the first three games of this trip it was a power play goal it was a beautiful

06:33in la for the kings to get the one nothing lead and then the sabers just sort of took eventually
06:38just you know took off and hid with that game but that was a power play goal last night was

06:49right the tying goal that's right i went to sorry overtime right so um either so three power play goals
06:55against we tend to talk a lot i know i do um you know here come the playoffs what kind

07:02your power play in you know i know on friday even i was talking about how it's wild how
07:08electric i think the sabers are often at five on five moving around the offensive zone how
07:13they they just move so effectively and on the power play they're kind of stagnant
07:17never really think about how important the penalty kill could be you know it's the same concept right
07:23you don't want to give up power play goals and so you know giving up four in these last two
07:27games
07:27including three last night is not great like i'm gonna want to i'm gonna want to buckle that up
07:33because that's been a strength that there's all year their penalty kill has mostly been above that
07:37league average i think they're still sixth um so it's been really good but you know it cost them
07:43the game last night i mean i five on five they they should have walked out of there with a

07:47but three power play goals again bulldog and i were texting yesterday about the game

08:39that i think the right approach the right perspective on it is this is has been really
08:46amazing um all full marks for all to everybody for like what's happened here and it's been i mean a
08:55big relief and a huge delight to see them go on these winning streaks and go to the top and
09:02the the caliber of games all of it has been so enjoyable and i think they're i probably said this
09:09a few times last week and i don't think anything really has changed this i mean the other teams are
09:13winning too probably whether they finish first or second i mean third's different that's still
09:19possible if they finish first or second they're home for somebody that they will probably look
09:26really similar to as you know an overall team yeah and they'd be a slight favorite i can't imagine
09:32them being a series underdog in round one if they finish in the top two in their division to anybody
09:39um even montreal i think if that's two three yeah yeah you know maybe it's close to even money
09:45but i'm just like you're gonna have to win i mean who who wants to look at it this way

09:52but you're gonna have to win four coin flips i think the only team in the entire conference
09:56that has a reputation that might warrant being a significant favorite at all might be tampa
10:04because carolina even has a history of having these incredible seasons yeah 110 points whatever type
10:11seasons and then they just don't that this this whatever it is if it's if it's as as uh bound

10:20their style of play doesn't win in the playoffs i i don't know but they just haven't come through
10:24so i don't think that they'll be however they finish they finish in the top spot i i would
10:29predict tampa is the heaviest underdog almost no matter who they play favorite excuse me favorite
10:34in the eastern conference when those four matchups are determined i'll bet they're you know minus 130
10:41or 140 or something and everything else is close to even money because i think that's what the
10:46conference looks like tampa though is like pedigree they've got the goalie they've got
10:50kucherov they've got the coach of the year candidate sorry uh they just have the you know
10:57they've got history on their side uh and it doesn't have to mean anything uh but it does
11:01history and also like this version is really good that's right that's right it's not they're not
11:06resting on uh any laurels there these uh tampa bay lightning they're there but there's enough
11:12familiarity there i mostly just want them to finish first the sabers because i think they'll have to
11:18finish the season strong to end up in first and i and i'd like i'd like to get through this

11:23month without any like you know crises uh at all right i mean they've just been so excellent for so
11:30long and i'd like to see them you know what do they got 11 games left i'd like to see

13:30last night for each team and the sabers now have four straight at home tampa has seven straight
13:37at home starting tomorrow against minnesota and then four on the road including starting with
13:43including the game here and then two at home to end it two with ottawa two with montreal still on

13:51lightning schedule um sabers have boston detroit seattle and the islanders in their next four games
13:59how much is first place really worth you're talking about aesthetics maybe a little bit about
14:03momentum yeah i guess um you get a banner if if you want it you get a banner for first
14:12place right
14:14oh i want it you want the banner i want something new hanging up there for no other reason just

14:19see how they design it and what what you know how it matches because everything is it's all they i

14:24they sort of can't win which i know right it's like it's such a mishmash you can't win yeah but

14:36like buffering for them to fumble i know i feel that too and and you know rationalizing and again
14:42yeah it doesn't have to mean anything to their they're gonna have to get their breath at some point

14:55they seem to whether they're absolutely at their best every night or not i mean i i don't think you
15:02can always tell um they are finding ways and even last night i mean down to to rally to take
15:08a lead it
15:09was short-lived but they they still got off the mat there and they just have developed so many good
15:15habits that i think it would be encouraging to see because the playoffs you're almost certainly
15:21not going to be at your best every night in the playoffs especially the longer you go i mean it
15:25is a grueling mental and physical endeavor to do it so being able to win games here when you're not
15:33you're you know your first game back after the road trip that's wednesday right against uh boston
15:38lindy already lindy already mentioned it i think last night after the game um so like there's that
15:44and just but find ways to get points and win games and like i think that that would just continue
15:51to be
15:51a very promising sign so that's more it's more about that than it is the benefit of playing
15:59whatever the the seven or eight seed one of the best things about the playoffs is you never have
16:04to hear anybody point out that teams coming back from a western road trip are in trouble
16:07because they're only in trouble when they lose i mean the data has nothing for it but oh well
16:12okay we're gonna have to listen to that for a few days um yeah i'll be going wednesday and i'm
16:19expecting the absolute uh peak experience maybe for once i'll get that hot dog even oh boy the hot

17:22like they're not making much ground up no for as much as people like their you know their metrics yeah
17:29they're seven two and one in their last 10 and they're still five points away uh from a spot i
17:35read that this game tonight the only game in the nhl tonight is ottawa at the rangers right um i

17:43has a 20 percentage point swing in playoff odds there if they win tonight they'd be around 60 to make
17:51it ottawa a loss drops them to a regulation loss drops them to around 40 i think an overtime loss

18:41the same 85 points both teams so they're they'll be pushing back and forth probably the rest of the
