President Donald Trump says Iran wants “to make a deal”, and claims US envoys have been holding talks with a “respected” Iranian leader.Mr Trump told reporters on Monday that his Middle East special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner conducted talks on Sunday into the evening.

00:27But we've had very strong talks. Mr. Whitcoff and Mr. Kushner had them.

00:33They went, I would say, perfectly.

00:36I would say that if they carry through with that, it'll end that problem, that conflict.

00:44And I think it'll end it very, very substantially.

00:47So the discussions took place yesterday. They went into yesterday evening.

00:53They want very much to make a deal.

00:55We'd like to make a deal, too.

00:58We're going to get together today.

01:00But we'll at some point very, very soon meet.

01:03We're doing a five-day period. We'll see how that goes.

01:07And if it goes well, we're going to end up with settling this.

01:10Otherwise, we'll just keep bombing our little hearts out.
