00:32So hi, looking back at the first Reason, what didn't work with the game and what was very successful?
00:40I think what was very successful about Resen 1 was the whole environment design and authentic RPG experience, the Deep
00:50gameplay experience in the game
00:51What wasn't really successful in Resen 1 was first there was no really deep emotional attachment to the characters
01:00So even lead story characters dropped into the game, you made some quests for them and then dropped out again
01:08And another thing which obviously wasn't really on par with the latest technology was the visual representation of Resen 1
01:18So Piranha Bytes can do very much better than Resen 1 and we're going to prove that in Resen 2
01:25Yeah, and the main big aspect that differentiated the first and the second game is the setting
01:31Why have you chosen to change the setting?
01:35Actually the setting change was necessary because we felt that we needed some to breathe some fresh air into the
01:42action RPG market
01:44And also it was very easy to snap the pirate setting into the Risen universe because pirates have already been
01:54a part of the Risen universe
01:56Like Patty for example, a barkeeper, she was, and still is, the daughter of Steelbeard, one of the mightiest pirates
02:03of the Southern Seas
02:04And even in the Gothic series before, Piranha Bytes has used a pirate theme like in the Gothic 2, Adon,
02:13Knight of the Raven
02:14So it's a very known territory to the developer, it shows their strength in terms of dialogue writing, in terms
02:22of creating a dark and gritty and realistic world
02:26And that's why pirates are a perfect fit
02:29I think that with this change of setting in Resen 2 appears at first sight, very similar to the Fable
02:39series, just at first sight
02:42Is something you talked about? Perhaps is something that you are happy with?
02:47Actually I think it's always in the eye of the beholder to compare to, you know
02:53We get a lot of comparison between Fable and of course also there is a lot of talk about the
02:58pirate setting
02:59Which might be inspired by a specific movie out there
03:08But all I can say is, you know, when you are working with creative people in a room
03:13You can come up with very similar ideas
03:15So I think the pirate setting is still very very original
03:20And although Fable tries to do many things we are doing
03:26I think Resen is offering a much much deeper RPG experience than the Fable series
03:32I've seen during the presentation today, you mentioned the companion system
03:38Could you explain more the connection between the ship system and the companion system?
03:43So what we can reveal on E3 is that you are having your own ship
03:46So the story arc of Resen 2 is from an inquisition underdog
03:53Who gets kicked out of the inquisition because of bad behaviour
03:56Who is progressing to a pirate captain
03:58Every pirate captain obviously needs his own ship
04:00So on this ship is a ship crew
04:04And this crew is not only there for emotional attachment
04:08But also they are companions, you can take them with you on shore leave
04:13So actually you will be able to pass your adventures with them
04:17And they will react on what you are doing
04:19They will try to give you tips on how to progress in the game
04:23They will also interfere in dialogues
04:25So there are many many new cool things people expect from Resen 2
04:32And by the way I think it's also going back a little bit to the Gothic series
04:36Because as you might remember
04:38In the Gothic series everyone talks about Lester, Milton, Gorn
04:41And all the very memorable characters
04:44And they are memorable because they always appeared in the game
04:48And we want to try to do the same with Resen 2 with the ship crew
04:52Yes, the first Resen 2 was very criticised for the Xbox 360 porting adaptation
04:59Is this something you consider for the sequel?
05:02Do you think you will work better with the console version?
05:06Absolutely, yes
05:07We are aiming now for a simultaneous release on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC
05:15And in contrast to Resen 1 we started with parallel development right from the beginning
05:20Resen 1 was never intended to be a console title
05:24Right from the beginning
05:25Very late on in the process we decided to make an Xbox version
05:29And for Resen 2 this changed dramatically
05:32And this is also the reason why we are already now
05:34The code is now looking better on consoles for Resen 2
05:38Than the final product in Resen 1
05:40Yes, and there will be any differences between PC and Consolvation
05:43Other than the graphical aspect?
05:46Not really, the controls will be different obviously
05:50But apart from that the game will be the same
05:52So there is no modification going on for
05:55Or simplification going on for console players or PC players vice versa
06:01So do you think that the console audience doesn't need
06:05They don't need any simplification for the gameplay
06:09To reach better the gameplay
06:14To play better the game
06:16Not the core audience I would say
06:19So I think you have to differentiate on the console side
06:22Between the casual players and the core players
06:25And the type of game we are developing with Resen 2
06:30And Piranha Bytes is creating
06:32Is not really tailored for casual audience
06:35So Resen 2 is a game for engaged gamers
06:39Who are ready to invest a lot of time into the game
06:42And so if you follow that principle for example
06:49Then you don't need to simplify it for console players
06:52Because I'm a big believer that there are also console players
06:56Who really want to play a deep emotional RPG
07:00So when the game will be out?
07:03Resen 2 is going to be shipped in beginning of 2012
07:06First half of 2012
07:08Ok, thank you very much
07:09Thank you very much too
07:22Thank you
