00:14When you are, you know,
00:15the caretakers of
00:17such a unique, awesome game
00:19as Planes for Zombies,
00:20it can't just be good or great,
00:23it has to be perfect.
00:27With any sequel,
00:29you've got the challenge of really wanting to deliver
00:30on what people loved about
00:32the original game, but make it different
00:34enough, and move it forward enough
00:36that it feels like it's not just a rehash.
00:39How do we make gameplay
00:40feel like PvZ 1,
00:42but be just as good or better in its own way?
00:46We start out
00:47Planes for Zombies 2
00:48on the events immediately after Planes for Zombies 1.
00:51You're on the lawn,
00:52you've defeated zombies, and Dave,
00:54is having a great time,
00:56and he decides to eat his taco.
00:58And he loves it so much that
00:59he wants to eat it again,
01:00so obviously the easiest way to do that
01:03is to build a time machine and go back in time
01:05to when the taco hadn't yet been eaten.
01:07So, of course, he gets in his time machine,
01:09Penny, but something goes wrong,
01:11and then you end up in Ancient Egypt.
01:14In Planes for Zombies 1,
01:15he just went level to level to level,
01:16unlocking plants along the way.
01:18In PvZ 2, we take you out to our world maps.
01:20So in PvZ 2 at launch,
01:22we've got three worlds,
01:24Ancient Egypt, Pirate Seas,
01:26and the Wild West.
01:27It was always our goal to have
01:29the most robust game possible,
01:31and part of that is going to be releasing these new worlds.
01:34So, even though we've released three worlds,
01:36we want to have new and more content
01:38coming out all the time.
01:40The most awesome part of the game,
01:41of Planes for Zombies 2, is plant food.
01:43Like, that fundamentally changes the game.
01:45We were dialing all these things down.
01:47We came across the idea, hey, what about plant food?
01:49We just give them one-offs,
01:50give them a little special power,
01:51and we tried it, and we thought, hey,
01:53there's something here.
01:54We knew we needed to keep a lot of the plants
01:57from the original game,
01:58but we wanted them to feel fresh and different.
02:00It not only gives you a new way
02:03to kind of battle the zombies,
02:05but it gave you a new way to view the plants,
02:07because now the plants have this whole new mode
02:09that they didn't have before.
02:12And then the biggest change of all
02:13was when we thought,
02:15let's make this game free.
02:17The game is absolutely free to players.
02:19Everything that you see on the map,
02:20you can get to through gameplay.
02:22This one, we want to give a player
02:24tons of content, tons of really cool things,
02:27and not really gate them with money
02:29or with recruiting friends or anything like that.
02:32Just let them enjoy the game,
02:33and when they find something they really like,
02:35they can grab it.
02:37The game is actually just beginning.
02:39You asked me what I'm doing now.
02:41Now I'm planning for what happens next
02:43in Plants vs. Zombies.
