00:00Epica has many ballads, but for some reason, Tides of Time stood the test of time.
00:06It's still a fan favorite and I enjoy performing it.
00:09And back then I wrote the lyrics because one of our bandmates, Mark, lost his grandmother.
00:18And she played quite a big role in the Epica history because we used to rehearse in her basement.
00:22And we were there a lot. So when she passed, we wrote that song.
00:28And even after my grandparents passed, we played the song at the funeral.
00:34I couldn't sing it. It was too emotional for me.
00:36But I've seen many people in the audience shed a tear or two to that song.
00:42Everybody can relate to it. And it's just a beautiful, raw, heartfelt ballad.
00:47It's very relatable. It's a sad ballad, but I think aren't all ballads kind of sad.
