00:05Grazie a tutti.
00:34Grazie a tutti.
00:35PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
00:37Give it up one more time for that awesome trailer.
00:40It's coming from a developer known as Superbot Entertainment.
00:44Here's Omar over here.
00:46This is Chan.
00:47They are Superbot Entertainment.
00:49These two men making it all by themselves.
00:52A lot of weight on your shoulders, Chan.
00:54Are you going to be okay?
00:55Now, of course,
00:57it's a mashup fighter.
00:59It's got a whole bunch of crazy cool guys in it.
01:01I'm sure Sony gives you all of their crowned jewels and they say make a great game.
01:05Superbot Entertainment.
01:06Long history with Sony.
01:08You're a developer that's proving yourself, right?
01:10Absolutely.
01:11We've been around for a long time.
01:15Not.
01:16Sony decided we'll just create a new team from scratch to build this.
01:20We've been around for about three years.
01:23About a year and a half ago we brought in this fine gentleman.
01:28Thank you.
01:29Omar, what did you think when you came on?
01:31You're like, oh yeah, here.
01:32There's this new studio and you're making a game with everyone who ever mattered to PlayStation.
01:36Yeah, I mean, it's an amazing opportunity.
01:38I'm a huge fighting game fan.
01:41But I'm also a huge PlayStation fan.
01:43I mean, for me...
01:44One PlayStation fan here too.
01:51You know, there have been a couple of games over the last few years that have just left really lasting
01:55impacts on me.
01:56For me, God of War as a series, I think.
02:01Just an amazing series and the opportunity to work on a game that has not only Kratos,
02:05but all of these other great, great characters like Parappa the Rapper.
02:11I mean, it's just a great opportunity.
02:13So working on fighting games, which I love above all other genres,
02:17and working with these great PlayStation characters, I think.
02:19It's just a joy.
02:20What about environments?
02:21How do you start choosing levels and stuff like that?
02:23Especially for a platformer brawler.
02:26Well, I mean, we wanted to take the same approach to our levels that we did to our characters.
02:32PlayStation All-Stars above all else is a celebration.
02:34You guys love these games.
02:35You love these characters.
02:36You love these worlds.
02:37And we do too.
02:37And so we wanted to make sure that we took advantage of the levels to use them also as an
02:43opportunity to celebrate PlayStation.
02:45So each level, I'm sure as you guys know by now, is actually like a mashup of two different worlds.
02:50So what you guys have been playing recently, you'll have Hades, which is a mashup of, you know, a God
02:55of War world with the Patapon world.
02:57The level that we just showed off last week at Evolution that's also playable here is Parappa's Dojo, which, you
03:03know, you've got Master Onion and all his students,
03:05but then the mauler from Killzone stomping around in the background.
03:08And Chop Chop has to go to like super size and take care of that situation.
03:12So it's just a really cool, fun opportunity for us to have some fun with the universes, to sort of
03:17play up a lot of those sort of Easter egg type elements that you guys know and love.
03:21And yeah, just have some more fun.
03:24So, Gregway, how do you guys go about choosing characters?
03:27Like how do you decide, I want this person in, we have to get this guy in, not him?
03:31I would have to say, you know, as a development team, we want to, as much as possible, represent what
03:37the fans want, because we're fans.
03:39So we take the perspective of like, you know, you get into one of our high concept meetings and it's
03:44all about like, what would be totally badass?
03:46You know, and it really starts from there. And I think that we feel if we're satisfied and we're excited
03:53about the things that we're putting in the game,
03:55that you guys will also be excited about the things that you see.
03:58So what are the steps for getting characters? You talk about, you know, that you talk to the developers, blah,
04:02blah, blah.
04:02But especially for first party stuff, since you're working so closely with Sony, is it simple as saying we're putting
04:08this guy in there? Or how does it work?
04:10It is almost that simple. If there's enough interest in the fans, and we feel that we can create a
04:15very interesting character for PlayStation All-Stars,
04:18that's almost all it takes to get them included on the roster. After that, it is working closely with the
04:24IP holders.
04:25Sony's really interesting in this way, where they don't just say, okay, you get this character and whatever you want
04:29to do with them, just go have fun.
04:31You know, they respect that these different studios have spent a lot of time and energy developing these characters into
04:37who they are today.
04:38So we work very closely with the individual developers, like a Naughty Dog or a Sunny Santa Monica or the
04:42guys up in Foster City,
04:43to make sure that we're playing these characters and representing them the way that they, you know, that the fans
04:50expect and the way that they envision.
04:51So, you know, they help us write scripts for, you know, their different cutscenes, you know, they assist with voice
04:57acting, you know.
04:58They want to make sure that these characters are delivered to their best potential in the way that both the
05:03fans and the IP holders expect.
05:05I have a question for you that I'm sure I'd get flamed for even more than I already do on
05:08the internet if I didn't ask.
05:10Is Smash Brothers a dirty word? Like, I mean, we're all gamers and obviously the game takes cues from it,
05:15right?
05:15Yeah, I mean, I can't, I can't, it'd be silly for me to sit up here and be like, what
05:19game are you talking about? I have no idea.
05:22No, I mean, we're huge fans of this entire genre. Got nothing against Smash or Smash fans. You know, we're
05:29Smash fans. We're fans of this entire genre.
05:32I was in the fighting panel on Friday with Harada and Ono from Tekken and Street Fighter. You know, this,
05:38we, this is to me very much a community of hardcore fans who love this genre. I love this genre.
05:45And yeah, I have no problem with the comparison. Sorry, go ahead. I had to take, I had to take
05:50over for, you know, gotta do it.
05:53First off, I would like to say this since it's not said enough. Thank you for creating this for all
05:58us Sony fans.
05:59Thank you.
06:05Second, for this question, you can say no comment if you'd like. This is regarding the story mode.
06:10Yeah. If there is a story mode, one, how long is it? And two, can you confirm if there is
06:15a big bad that all the characters have to fight against?
06:18We definitely have a story. Our, our, the, our game's single player structure is very close to the traditional sort
06:27of fighting game structure where you, you take your individual character and you're working through a progression,
06:32and, um, fighting against a bunch of different dudes. And you'll have, each character has their own motivation for why
06:38they're coming to this world.
06:40They know there's this gathering of all these guys and there's this challenge and, and the different characters, uh, come
06:46to the challenge for different reasons and in different ways.
06:48And, you know, along the way they'll fight a rival. Um, each character has a different reason for coming to
06:53the world.
06:54The, the length, I'm not, I'm not too sure on the estimate, but, um, yeah, it, it, it'll be interesting.
06:58You'll, you'll definitely find out. While I'm not willing to say it's the bad guy,
07:02uh, there's definitely a reason why all these guys come together and, and you will, that will be revealed to
07:07you.
07:07Thank you. Kevin Butler has been kidnapped.
07:14Excuse me. Are we going to see add-on content for more characters or more costume as the game is
07:19already released?
07:20Or is it just going to be, you get this and it's standalone, we're not releasing add-ons or anything?
07:24Uh, what would you like to see?
07:27Um, everything you can release.
07:30We're, we're going to try to get to as much stuff as we can and make sure it's on the
07:33disc.
07:34Um, and, you know, I think invariably there's probably going to be some stuff that we just can't get to,
07:37some stuff that we hear late and we want to, we want to be able to accommodate that as well.
07:42So, you know, if we, if there's just a character that we just missed and didn't get to,
07:45we're, we'll definitely try to get to them in DLC, but we're really focused on getting as much on,
07:49onto the disc as possible.
07:51Thank you.
07:54Hi, I was wondering if you guys were considering any custom game modes,
07:58like a big head mode or like a super sudden death mode or anything like that?
08:01Yeah, we're playing around with a bunch of different, uh, game modes and match types.
08:05We'll definitely go into that, uh, coming soon.
08:08It was, it was something that we debated talking about, uh, today,
08:11but we just didn't have, I don't think the proper materials.
08:13You guys dig videos and stuff like that.
08:14And we just didn't have the right materials, I think, to put together for that.
08:17But, oh yeah, there's a lot of, uh, game mode match type customization that we have in this game
08:21that we'll, we'll definitely be sharing with you soon.
08:24Cool. Thank you.
08:26Yeah, we actually showed 1v1 and 2v2 at Evo, and 2v2 is currently a favorite within the team right now.
08:35Uh, I just had a quick question. Um, in regards to Bioshock, I'm a huge Bioshock fan,
08:40and I was kind of surprised to hear that Big Daddy was going to be making into the game.
08:45What made you guys choose him?
08:46Uh, cause he's an awesome character.
08:49And if I could ask just a quick little second part, I, I've noticed like some of the levels,
08:53like theme, uh, some of the games that, uh, represent some of the characters.
08:57Is there going to be hopefully a rapture kind of level?
09:00Stay tuned.
09:01Thank you.
09:05Okay, aside from saying Crash, Spyro, Zeke from Infamous, uh, yada yada.
09:10Um, how do the stages work?
09:12I noticed like they're like a lot more caged than a certain other game.
09:16Like, if there was like any pits and if you like knocked a character down to that,
09:21does, is there any of that in there?
09:23Yeah, so it's not like dying by falling off of a level is not a, really a part of our
09:28game.
09:28Um, you, you're correct in that most of the levels that you've seen up until this point are pretty sealed
09:34in.
09:34Uh, we do have some levels that are not so sealed in.
09:37Um, we have a very unique way of dealing with that situation, but it doesn't result in a death.
09:42The only, the only way to die in this game is by a super.
09:47Okay.
09:48Well, thank you very much.
09:49Thank you, sir.
09:50So ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much.
09:52Please give it up.
09:53Chan, Omar, Superbot Entertainment.
09:56PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale comes out October 23rd.
09:59Look for news on IGN before you go buy it.
10:02Grazie.
