00:00This is That Thrifting Show.
00:03Thrifting isn't just a trend, it's a movement.
00:06Oh, this is cool.
00:10We're using these secondhand treasures to give spaces new life.
00:14Did you really thrift that?
00:16Around the corner, we've built out two identical rooms with only
00:20the bare essentials.
00:22Who loves thrifting?
00:23We do.
00:24I'm challenging two interior design teams to transform these spaces.
00:29Get to it.
00:30We only got so much time.
00:32This is incredible.
00:34Every single piece used in their design plan must be thrifted, vintage.
00:37We find treasures.
00:39We don't care, as long as it's upcycled.
00:41Are you actually in the dumpster, Duncan?
00:43Duncan doesn't mess around.
00:45They'll have a two-day deadline and a $2,000 budget.
00:54The clock is ticking.
01:00Lara, Lara.
01:01We have an interior design emergency.
01:03An interior design emergency.
01:04The team that wows the judges with their design.
01:07This was $50.
01:09Come on.
01:11This is $50.
01:11Wins all the curated treasures in both rooms.
01:14The winner of this competition is...
01:18It's the thrill of the hunt.
01:29Designers, welcome to The Thrifting Show.
01:32You are going to create the best room that you can using only thrifted, vintage, upcycled pieces.
01:40Love it.
01:40You only have two days and $2,000, but you all know you can do this or you wouldn't be
01:46here.
01:46All right.
01:47I want to hear about you guys.
01:48William, I know you have an interior design business.
01:50I do.
01:51I do mostly high-end residentials.
01:52You said high-end renovation.
01:54That's ironic.
01:55Yeah, right, right.
01:56I have my own interior design firm in Norwalk, Connecticut.
01:58It's called William Line Designs.
02:04And I was looking for a project manager, found Dani.
02:06I fell in love with her and hired her onto my team and we became best friends.
02:10Oh, I feel the same.
02:12I'm from Brazil.
02:13I grew up in a family that we used to do DIY.
02:16Paint and refinish a furniture piece.
02:18If I don't know how to do it, I'm going to figure it out and I'm going to do it
02:21because this is what we do.
02:22We sometimes take things and make them completely custom for our clients.
02:25Just because you see something that's dusty and in the back corner doesn't mean you can't alter it
02:29to become something that you wish for it to be.
02:32Hi, John and Oliver.
02:33Hi.
02:33Hi, Lyra.
02:34So you guys met working?
02:35Yes.
02:36We were prop stylists, then became really good friends.
02:39Get down, get down with the B-side.
02:42Get down with the B-side.
02:43We've definitely bonded over how close we are with our moms.
02:46My mother is a vintage dealer.
02:48We were in antique malls my entire childhood.
02:51My love for thrifting, I think, came from being in my 20s and not having any money.
02:58We furnish whole rooms on a budget.
03:01We get used to really digging to find what we need and that's like the fun of it.
03:08I love to shop.
03:09We love to shop.
03:10It gives us a high.
03:12Do you want to hear what room you will be doing today for our panel of expert judges?
03:18How does it feel to be working on a dining room?
03:25Ooh, love that.
03:26Dramatic, yes.
03:28You're in a huge warehouse and what we've done is literally create two identical spaces that look
03:33like rooms.
03:36Inside those rooms, we've given you three pieces that we feel might be a nice foundation
03:41for you to start with.
03:42And if you don't like them, you can cut them in half and turn them into something else.
03:47Okay.
03:47Or you can give them back to us and we'll happily recycle them.
03:50Yes.
03:51I can't wait to hear what design styles you get and we're going to find that out right now.
03:56We've created a challenge that we're calling the vintage shuffle.
03:59I know guys, I'm sorry, I have to dance.
04:03We're going to place four things on your tables.
04:05You're also going to get four little placards, each of which says a decade.
04:10Match the piece to the decade it belongs to and the team that gets more right wins.
04:1630 seconds on the clock.
04:17Ready, set, go.
04:2370, okay, so I think this might be there.
04:26I think this is one of the 40s.
04:29I don't think it was, I would do that.
04:32Guys, 15 seconds.
04:35No, I think this is 40.
04:37Yes, done, done.
04:38Ah, done.
04:39All right, the moment of truth.
04:41Let's take a look at those answers.
04:44The champagne coupe is from the 1940s, before tastes changed and the flute became king in the 1950s.
04:51The decorative plate is from the 1960s.
04:54These handmade resin pieces were huge in the mid-century.
04:58The cake stand is from the 70s.
05:01Lucite has been around since the late 1930s, but the style of this cake stand is pure 70s.
05:07The salt and pepper shaker is from the 2000s.
05:09It's stamped dishwasher safe, which means it's not very old.
05:13John and Oliver, with two items correct, you get to choose the style of room first.
05:19Oh.
05:19The two styles that you will choose from are our English cottage
05:26or modern glam.
05:31English cottage.
05:32Nice, all right.
05:33So you guys will be doing a modern glam dining room.
05:36Is that good?
05:37I think, I think we got the glam going on.
05:38So I think this is our, this is our wheelhouse making.
05:40I'm creating this for you.
05:42Oh, yeah.
05:42The team that wins will win all of the curated awesome pieces that are found and purchased by both teams.
05:50Oh, wow.
05:51Oh.
05:52Oh, wow.
05:53When you leave this room, the clock begins.
05:56Oh, my God.
05:57Ready?
05:58Yes.
05:58Go see the room.
05:59Good luck, guys.
06:00I'm excited for you.
06:02All right.
06:04Okay.
06:04Modern glam.
06:05Are you ready?
06:06This is a nice room.
06:07I like the amount of space.
06:08It's like not too, not too big, not too small.
06:11It's just right.
06:11When I think of an English cottage dining room, I think of comfort.
06:14I think of a welcoming, warm space.
06:17I think of tea time by the fire.
06:19I'm thinking like that is like the focal wall.
06:22Like if that's like a big china cabinet or a big hutch, there could be like another kind of serving
06:28surface there.
06:29So here we have the tape dongle.
06:33You have to have crystal.
06:35You're going to have to have a mix of metals.
06:36You're going to have to have stone.
06:38You're going to have to have mirror.
06:39Do we mirror a wall?
06:41Do we have to build a story?
06:42We can do something here to kind of like divide it.
06:44Yeah.
06:44We're going to need a table.
06:45That table does not work.
06:46We're going to need chairs.
06:48We can put a big wall right here.
06:49A big rug.
06:50We got to get a chandelier.
06:52Oh, let's take a quick video of the whole space.
06:54Oh, yeah.
06:54Get it.
06:57Get it, girl.
06:58MTV Cribs.
06:58I think having some strong color in the room will give an impression.
07:03I think it needs to be a blue room.
07:04Would we do like a, like a stripe?
07:08I think we should do a, yeah, I could see a stripe.
07:11Add a lot of dimension and visual interest to the room.
07:14Let's go shopping.
07:19Let's go.
07:21Good luck.
07:22Have fun.
07:23It's here.
07:25English Cottage.
07:26English Cottage.
07:27Here we come.
07:28We're ready to go.
07:29Yay.
07:30Danny's driving.
07:31I think in terms of the other team, like, they're really nice,
07:35so I can't really say anything bad.
07:37But I'm sorry that they're going to lose.
07:39Yeah.
07:39I feel sorry about it.
07:41Let's hit it.
07:44What are we going to do?
07:45What are we going to do?
07:48First place we're going to stop is Room X.
07:50This is crazy.
07:53Let's park this big boy.
07:56I feel like when we have the anchor pieces,
07:59the accessories come easier.
08:05Hi.
08:06Hi.
08:06How are you?
08:08What could it be glam?
08:10Does that look like anything?
08:12I can tell by your non-expression that you hate it.
08:16Mirror time.
08:16Oh, my God.
08:17I want to see a mirror.
08:18That one.
08:19Oh, yes.
08:21A hundred dollars, William?
08:22No.
08:23This is why you're here.
08:23We can't for a hundred dollars, a mirror.
08:25I think I'm more, like, budget-wise, like...
08:28We have a budget?
08:29No, I'm just kidding.
08:31Wade.
08:32Oh, this is...
08:33This is so pretty.
08:35I think it's a pretty good condition.
08:37I think it's gorgeous.
08:38It's a pretty table.
08:38Yeah, it's gorgeous.
08:40So, in mind, in your mind, modern glam.
08:43Modern glam.
08:43Modern glam.
08:44We find this beautiful travertine table in cream tones.
08:48It's gorgeous.
08:49It's amazing.
08:50Yeah, all right.
08:50Okay, let's do it.
08:51Oh, yeah.
08:52You want to blow the budget?
08:53How much?
08:55$1,500.
08:56That is a lot.
08:57I know.
08:58Oh, really?
09:00The travertine table is marked at $1,500.
09:04Our budget.
09:05You're breaking our bank for $1,500.
09:08What if I was to slash it 50% off?
09:11Um, that's still a lot of our budget.
09:12It is, right?
09:13Yeah.
09:13Yeah.
09:15$600.
09:15Let me think about it.
09:17Let me think about it.
09:17Let me think about it.
09:18Because I want to get rid of this one, too.
09:20Any interest in the mirror one?
09:21No.
09:21No, I got it.
09:24Betsy, say hi, John.
09:25Don't look at the camera.
09:27You're driving.
09:29I see stuff.
09:30I see stuff.
09:31I see stuff.
09:33Okay.
09:34Let's not get distracted.
09:42Get that hutch.
09:45Hello.
09:46I'm a little overwhelmed, actually, walking into this space,
09:49because it is so big.
09:51There's so much stuff.
09:53But it also looks really pricey.
09:55We could spend hours in here.
09:56What, what, what up?
09:58Because we're on a time crunch.
10:03A shaker box.
10:04How much?
10:05$125.
10:06No.
10:07$2,000 is sounding like not a lot in this store.
10:11Are we allowed back here, Rob?
10:13I am allowed here.
10:15Rob, what would you do on that?
10:17$45.
10:18This time only.
10:19I say yes.
10:22That's sold, Rob.
10:23A nice little bowl.
10:25This is like the finishes.
10:27You have to be careful.
10:29I want this bowl.
10:30Okay.
10:32What about a wicker settee, John?
10:36Right there.
10:39Oh.
10:40This is really nice.
10:42$175.
10:44$175.
10:45If we could go a little cheaper, it would help us.
10:49Like, $100, $150.
10:51How about $125?
10:53$125.
10:54Okay.
10:54I could do that.
10:55All right.
10:55Okay.
10:56That's nice, too.
10:57What's the price on that one?
10:59$75.
11:03That's not bad.
11:06What'd you call it, $50?
11:07$60.
11:08Okay.
11:08Let's do it.
11:10So the painting, $50, the chair.
11:12You said $60.
11:14This beautiful little bowl.
11:17Trevor, hard bargain, John.
11:20We need a bigger deal on the table than $600.
11:23$600 is going to take a lot of our budget.
11:24I know.
11:25I was thinking $4 when you said $6.
11:27I'm like, Dani, why'd you say that?
11:29Because I say $750.
11:30Hi, guys.
11:32Hi.
11:32I'm sorry to interrupt the flow.
11:34This is beautiful.
11:35I think this is beautiful.
11:36This has got a real, like, 70s elegant.
11:39I feel like this isn't a Gucci ad.
11:41You know, like, it's a little mid-century.
11:43Yeah.
11:44Yeah.
11:44But I don't mind mixing your...
11:45It leans more clean lines.
11:46It's to the base.
11:48It's the base is similar.
11:49Yeah.
11:49He was asking $1,500?
11:51Yeah.
11:52Okay.
11:52I already talked him down, so...
11:54Okay.
11:54All right.
11:54Well, I'm staying out of that.
11:57If he can do $500.
11:59He'll try $500.
12:00Okay, let's see.
12:01Let's see if he can do it.
12:02He's going to kill us.
12:03I just found a mirror in the back as well.
12:05This gold one right here.
12:06Oh, wait.
12:07Oh.
12:08Now, that's pretty.
12:10The mirror that he's bringing out to us right now, it's stunning.
12:13Like, the framework on it is next level.
12:16All right, so we like this.
12:18Okay.
12:18And we love the mirror that you just brought out.
12:20Yeah.
12:20So I'm wondering if we do the mirror that has no price in this.
12:24Could we do $500?
12:25I'd be around $600 for him.
12:28It's a lot of money right in the first stop, but we just feel that it's a showstopper.
12:42I'm wondering if we do the mirror that has no price in this.
12:45Could we do $500?
12:46I'd be around $600 for him.
12:49$550.
12:51$550?
12:52Okay.
12:53I'll do that for you.
12:53Yay!
12:54All right.
12:55This table is a quarter of our budget.
12:58That sounds horrible now that we're saying it out loud.
13:00Yeah, yeah, right?
13:01Say, how do we do that?
13:03Heaviest table known to man.
13:05Next stop.
13:08Let's go quick on this one.
13:10I do feel a little bit like we're lingering too much.
13:14Hurry, hurry.
13:16Hurry, hurry.
13:21Oh, my God.
13:21Look at this, John.
13:22This is called a roll caddy?
13:26To put bread in?
13:28Can we get this?
13:30Yes.
13:31What about that?
13:32Let's hurry.
13:33That's nice.
13:34Get it.
13:35Look at these.
13:35Get it.
13:3720 bucks.
13:39It's good, the times.
13:40Kind of can't beat that price.
13:44What did you find?
13:46We need some curtains.
13:47These are nice.
13:48I think the color's right.
13:49I don't think these are long enough.
13:51Are you considering this as well or would you lose that?
13:54We would keep that.
13:56So then I think with that, you're going to be right there.
13:58Yeah.
13:59And you also have a hem.
14:00We do have a hem.
14:01So you have another inch and a half.
14:02We can let out a little bit.
14:03Well, listen, you stay focused.
14:06Don't let me distract.
14:07I want to go thrift.
14:09Good luck.
14:13Your total is $149.50.
14:16Excellent.
14:17But we still need a dining table for the dining room.
14:21That feels essential.
14:23Let's go, John.
14:26We got to squeeze the rest of this money.
14:28Yes.
14:29Yeah.
14:30We are going now to the Salvation Army.
14:33My goodness.
14:39Thrifting modern glam is hard.
14:41Yeah.
14:42I just think that like this on a wooden table, pretty.
14:44This on a travertine table.
14:46Not pretty.
14:47The other team has cottage beat up wood.
14:51Everybody's getting rid of the beat up wood.
14:52We have to find some of this polish.
14:55That is glam.
14:55How much?
14:56Six for $4.99.
14:57Perfect.
14:58Cheers.
14:59I mean, I like how clean that style is for the style of the table.
15:03It could look modern.
15:05And I like the tall, the tall.
15:07There goes my southern accent.
15:08I like the tall backs.
15:09I like that too.
15:10We were really looking for velvet colored chairs.
15:13But at this point, we're really open to finding anything that speaks to the style.
15:17Can we paint leather?
15:20Yeah.
15:21How much are they?
15:22Did we ever discover that?
15:23It's on the front one.
15:24$99.
15:24We're just going to commit to the chairs and paint them.
15:27$40 for the floor.
15:29$40.
15:29Yay.
15:29It's fine.
15:30Great.
15:30Amazing.
15:32This is the other team.
15:35This is the other team.
15:36All right.
15:37So the chairs, it's going to be $30.99.
15:40And it's going to be $0.99.
15:42$49.78.
15:43Perfect.
15:45Oh, hello.
15:46Hello.
15:47How are you?
15:48How are you?
15:49How are you guys doing?
15:50Happy to see you.
15:51Happy to see you.
15:52We've got some good stuff.
15:53Yeah.
15:53What did you get so far?
15:54How are you guys doing?
15:55Are you going to tell us all about it?
15:56We got a bench.
15:57Yeah, of course.
15:58Transparency.
15:58Did you guys get a table yet?
16:00Yes.
16:00Yes.
16:00You got a table?
16:01We don't have a table yet.
16:02We just bought yours.
16:03We bought the one that you're going to want.
16:05No.
16:05Yeah.
16:05Yeah.
16:06You better not.
16:06It's already in the truck.
16:09Have fun.
16:09Good luck, guys.
16:10Enjoy.
16:11See ya.
16:12Okay.
16:12I see a table.
16:13Perfect.
16:13Thank you so much.
16:14This is pretty good.
16:15I kind of love it.
16:16It's only $100.
16:17I think that one's nicer.
16:19That is a steal.
16:20When I see something and I know, I just know.
16:23But we can't just have a dining room with a table.
16:25We need more stuff.
16:30So cute.
16:30Very old English.
16:32I didn't see a price tag on this cabinet.
16:3660?
16:38Yeah.
16:39Sold.
16:39Sold.
16:40Absolutely sold.
16:41Look at this.
16:45This is beautiful.
16:47That's so pretty.
16:48We could have a little tea for two.
16:51Yeah.
16:51Let's grab these.
16:52Okay.
16:53Ooh, look at that chair.
16:54Is there a price on them?
16:56These two, yeah?
16:57Yeah.
16:57$10 each.
16:59All right.
16:59Let's just get them.
17:00Sold.
17:00Yeah.
17:01Is there any chance you would come down on the price on this a little bit?
17:04Uh, I marked down this for $69.99.
17:07Okay.
17:07Yeah.
17:08That's great.
17:08All right.
17:09Love that.
17:09You're the best.
17:10You're making my day.
17:12It's $200 or $356.
17:14Okay.
17:14Cool.
17:15Thank you so much for all your help.
17:17I really appreciate it.
17:18Time.
17:19Time.
17:19Finally found our dining room table.
17:23Cheers to a good deal.
17:26Let's blow this popcorn stand.
17:30What else do we need, Oliver?
17:33I don't know.
17:33I'm on such a high from all of our good finds from that last shop that I am having a
17:40hard time focusing.
17:40We need some textiles.
17:47Is everything okay?
17:49Is anything broken?
17:50The hutch.
17:50Oh, shit.
17:52Oh, my God.
17:59En route to our next destination, we did crack our prized hutch.
18:04The scene of the crime.
18:06Oh, my God.
18:12Stab me in the heart with that.
18:14I see that it's just a small break.
18:16I'm confident in my ability to fix it.
18:19There's no such thing as a small break.
18:22This is a tragedy.
18:24We're going to be okay.
18:25Okay.
18:26A little bit of wood glue, a couple of clamps.
18:28I know we'll be back in business in no time.
18:30I'm really...
18:31I got it.
18:32It's okay.
18:35So, at Fairfield County Antique and Design, we're going to look for chandelier, possibly a rug.
18:41And art.
18:43That's going to kill our budget if we find all three things there.
18:51All righty.
18:52Hi.
18:53How are you?
18:54$1,200, $1,200.
18:55Everything I'm looking at is $1,200, $1,400?
18:57Yeah.
18:57Why do I keep doing this to myself?
18:58Let's go into the treasure.
19:01Oh, yeah.
19:02Let's go to the treasure.
19:03Let's do it.
19:04Wait a minute.
19:05Okay.
19:07Oh, here.
19:07There's carpets here.
19:09We see that stack of rugs and we have to dig in because you're not going to find anything
19:12for a bargain if you don't get to the bottom.
19:14And it's a big rug.
19:15This is what you get for treasure hunting.
19:17You find the good stuff.
19:18Let's go.
19:19Yay!
19:19Wow.
19:20That's actually really pretty.
19:22I think I got a rug.
19:22That's it.
19:22Wait, wait, wait, wait.
19:23How big is it?
19:24Depends on the price.
19:25Oh, yeah.
19:26$150.
19:27Okay.
19:28So now that we have our table and our rug selected, we can now start pulling colors.
19:32Actually, that's pretty.
19:34Sophisticated teal.
19:35Yeah.
19:35That's really nice.
19:36I think this is better.
19:37I feel like Danny and I, as designers, we love color.
19:40So for us, modern glam can't be anything other than vibrant, opulent, elegance, and layering
19:46of textures and colors.
19:47So what about, I thought it said $450.
19:49I was like, sold $950.
19:51We found it.
19:52Yeah.
19:53Another chunk of the budget.
19:54Gosh, that's gorgeous.
19:57So love, but not the price.
20:00Can you do $350?
20:04I can't even replace it for that.
20:08$400.
20:08$400.
20:09That's what I was going to say.
20:10Please, Robert.
20:12Please.
20:13Okay.
20:14Okay.
20:15Thank you so much.
20:16Thank you so much.
20:17We were able to get the beautiful rug and the chandelier for under $600.
20:23That's my bundling queen.
20:24Blink those eyelashes.
20:27No limits, blow-witted critics.
20:29Nobody want to leave the party.
20:30Might not ever finish.
20:31So get up on your feet.
20:32Dance to the rhythm.
20:33Putting on a clinic.
20:34Moving a mile a minute.
20:35Mile a minute.
20:36I'm not good at this.
20:37You really are.
20:39We've been shopping for hours.
20:40We have a lot of great stuff, but we still have a lot of work to do in the room.
20:44So I'm excited to keep it moving.
20:46You got it?
20:47I don't know.
20:49I'm not sure.
20:51Oh my God.
20:52Hold on.
20:53Oh, okay.
20:55Let's see how we're looking here.
20:57I look insane.
20:59I'm anxious to start painting.
21:01Painting party.
21:05Our plan for the walls is to do a darker blue at the bottom of the walls.
21:09I am painting molding.
21:12And this is going to just give the room a little extra oomph.
21:18Having a darker color at the bottom and then stripes up to the ceiling is going to
21:21make the room feel bigger than it is.
21:24How are you doing, Oliver?
21:25Um, linen's going to be done by the end of the night.
21:28It'll be great to start our stripes tomorrow.
21:30Great.
21:31Just a few touch-ups.
21:35Chandelier.
21:36It is really heavy.
21:37I've got it.
21:38Oh, you're so strong.
21:40So we're back to the warehouse and the first thing we have to do is paint.
21:44And unload the truck.
21:45Push, Danny, push.
21:47I'm helping.
21:50Starting to get real weary.
21:53Crunch time is coming and we are nervous.
21:58So it's the end of the day.
21:59We know we have to paint.
22:00We have a lot of stuff to do and we still don't have any curtains.
22:05Are you stepping on my chin?
22:07No.
22:08Don't start a fight, Danny.
22:09Don't start a fight.
22:11We are doing good.
22:12Don't make us have to stop and hug it out.
22:17We're trying to color drench, which time frame wise.
22:20Maybe that wasn't the smartest idea because we have to paint everything.
22:23But effect is what we need.
22:25I mean, we're glam.
22:26We can't leave the walls white, you know?
22:28Look at all this stuff.
22:29Look at all this stuff.
22:30I think we want to spec it out.
22:32I think we want to spec it out.
22:33I think we want to put our furniture together to see how everything looks.
22:36Yeah.
22:36And just make sure that everything fits and that we don't need anything
22:40additional or extra tomorrow.
22:42Watch your back.
22:43Wet paint.
22:47Bought this shirt in Paris.
22:51John.
22:52What?
22:53It's so cute, right?
22:54It's so good.
22:55It's already so cute.
22:56This is like the best part.
22:58Now we get to just like play house.
23:00Can we sleep here?
23:01Ready?
23:02One, two.
23:05I'm worried that when we see this floor,
23:08it's just going to feel like a lot of wood and the floor wood might not go with all of
23:15these.
23:15So I'm just wondering if we need a rug.
23:20It's like more of a gray.
23:23It's the end of day one.
23:25I'm feeling loopy and weird.
23:29I have two big concerns.
23:31The first is painting these stripes and how all of this wood furniture is going to look on this wood
23:36floor.
23:36Okay.
23:37You ready, John?
23:38Let's wrap it up.
23:39Let's get some sleep.
23:40A lot to still do.
23:42Paint down.
23:43All right, Grandpa.
23:44Let's get you to bed.
23:57We're about to start day two.
24:01We have a few more pieces that we need to try to find.
24:04We also have to finish painting and then we have to do all of the decorating and styling.
24:10I'm going to look on Facebook Marketplace, see if I can find maybe some rugs.
24:15Okay.
24:16Last minute.
24:17Yeah.
24:18We don't have a rug or a chandelier.
24:21Oliver's going to paint and I'm going to run out and try to find these last couple items.
24:26Hurry back.
24:27Happy painting.
24:29I'm seeing stripes when I close my eyes.
24:33Stripes take a lot of time to paint.
24:35Stripes can look really wonky if you don't get them right.
24:39John owes me a big thank you for all of this.
24:42But I guess I owe him one too since I can't drive.
24:46We're keeping the console.
24:47I'm painting it inside black.
24:48Let's hit it.
24:50To make it have the modern glam element that we're missing, we're going to paint it.
24:54We are reducing, reusing and recycling.
24:57So I feel like if we do black and black instead of replacing it with wood that we'd have to
25:01pay for,
25:02so much better.
25:03Let me show you a before and after.
25:05You want to see it?
25:08Before, more Chip and Joanna Gaines Cottagecore.
25:11Here, a little bit more modern, shows the detail.
25:13That's what we're going for.
25:15Okay, where am I going?
25:18Here we go.
25:20I find a chandelier that's 20 minutes away.
25:23I am not 100% in love with the chandelier, but I'm just kind of like,
25:28we got to roll with it at this point.
25:30There's no time for a second option.
25:32I got the chandelier.
25:33There it is.
25:34I found a rug that I can go pick up right now.
25:37I'm going to go get it and then go back to the studio.
25:40Got the rug.
25:41I think it's going to work.
25:42Let's go.
25:45We're starting to get worried because we still don't have the window treatments.
25:48We have to have panels in a dining room, especially for a glam.
25:52Hey, Oliver.
25:54Yeah.
25:55Hi, Bill.
25:56How are you?
25:57I have a question for you.
25:58It's looking so cool in here.
25:59How's it going?
26:00I'm seeing that you're not using the drapes thing, Amos.
26:02Oh yeah, the shears?
26:04Uh-huh.
26:04Do you mind if we like...
26:06Take them.
26:06Reuse, reduce, recycle?
26:07They're all yours.
26:08I love how you have a little blue in your hair too.
26:09Do I?
26:10Thank you so much.
26:11Good luck.
26:11I'll see you in a little bit.
26:13Doubling up on the sheer would just add bulk and heaviness to the room that we were missing.
26:21Oliver.
26:23I'm here with a chandelier.
26:26It's hot.
26:31Where have you been?
26:33Oh my gosh.
26:34You don't call.
26:35You don't text.
26:36I love it.
26:39Are we ready to put it together?
26:42Yay!
26:43The fun part.
26:45The best part.
26:47Oh, I hope this works.
26:50It's bright.
26:52It's a risk picking that color and also painting the leather.
26:56Yes.
26:56But we are here for that.
26:57I think it's a pop of color that a lot of people usually afraid to use color like that,
27:03but we're going to show how pretty it can be.
27:06Well, I've never done this before.
27:08I feel like this is like such a cool idea.
27:10Yeah.
27:11You're welcome.
27:12So I'm fixing this piece that chipped off of the cabinet,
27:17but nothing a little wood glue can't fix.
27:20And then we'll just take a clamp and fold it together.
27:26It fits right back on.
27:29It's going to be okay.
27:30John, how are you doing over there?
27:32Good.
27:32This is going to be fine.
27:36Hey, John.
27:37Hey, Oliver.
27:38Hi.
27:39Hey, Hara.
27:39Oh, you guys are cute.
27:39Did you mean to match?
27:41You know, we're just two little boy blues.
27:44I love it.
27:44I like that you did a bit of a contrast in the blues.
27:47Yeah.
27:48Yeah, we wanted to have.
27:49They work together.
27:50I would add a little weight at the bottom, and then a lower chair rail would add some height as
27:55well.
27:56Yeah, it totally does that.
27:58Huh.
27:58That's like a little trick of the eye.
28:00This I don't love.
28:00I wish it was one cushion, or I wish they were maybe, yeah, or maybe you just do them like
28:05this.
28:06Or like go, or go, like, I don't know.
28:10It's not quite there yet.
28:11Okay, I, okay, I'll leave you alone.
28:14It's your world.
28:15We'll figure it out.
28:16All right, good luck.
28:17Thank you so much, Hara.
28:18See you later.
28:21Okay, well, that looks good.
28:23Back to work, John.
28:24Back to work.
28:25Danny and William, do you guys need a hand?
28:28How are you?
28:28I'm good.
28:29Oh, thank you so much.
28:30You're welcome.
28:32You need to do the shimmy trick.
28:34Right, exactly.
28:35For sure.
28:38Where'd you find the rug?
28:39Fairfield Antique and Design Center.
28:41Oh, yeah.
28:41Yeah.
28:42Really good.
28:43The word modern and thrifting don't normally go hand in hand, but you can find a lot of great pieces
28:48that just don't work in other people's homes.
28:51Agreed.
28:51It's a beautiful piece, very modern glam.
28:55There's no disputing what your assignment was, at least in my opinion.
28:59Oh, thank you.
29:00All right, good luck, you guys.
29:01Thank you so much.
29:05Design teams.
29:06Hi, guys.
29:07Do you have a minute?
29:08You'll want to come with me.
29:12What could this be?
29:13Hi, how are you?
29:14Hi.
29:15Nice to see you guys.
29:17Hi.
29:17Hoping that you might enjoy this next challenge.
29:21I have named it the final touch face-off.
29:24One of you will get the opportunity to shop my space to help make your room look even more finished.
29:30All you have to do is write what you think I paid for this very heavy tray that's probably from
29:39the early 20th century.
29:42It's silver plate.
29:43It's silver plate.
29:43It's not sterling.
29:44And in this drawer are the three feet that it was standing on when I bought it.
29:50So, given the fact that it was missing one of its feet, what do you guys think I paid for
29:56this
29:56silver plate tray from the early 20th century?
29:59Please write down your guess.
30:02The team that gets closer to the penny gets to shop my space.
30:06Wallace silver.
30:07That's a really nice case.
30:09It's silver plated though.
30:10I think it's good.
30:12Show me what I paid.
30:15William and Danny have guessed $36.50.
30:19John and Oliver, you think I spent $79.99.
30:23I paid $14.99.
30:27That's a great deal.
30:28$14.99 for this three-legged beauty.
30:32So, congratulations to William and Danny.
30:34$36.50 is much closer.
30:36We did it.
30:38I love that you think I'm so fancy.
30:40We're good.
30:41We're good.
30:41See you later.
30:43All right.
30:43I'm wondering, like, we already have a lamp.
30:45That's done.
30:45We have a lamp.
30:46Black and white?
30:46Yeah.
30:46We wanted a woman.
30:48Yeah.
30:49I like her.
30:49We wanted the lady.
30:50Pair of candlesticks too.
30:51Those are pretty glam.
30:53Oh, these are candlesticks?
30:54Oh, yeah.
30:55Yeah, they're upside down.
30:56Oh, this is pretty.
30:58But that would be considered one.
30:59Yeah.
30:59And that's a pair?
31:00Yeah.
31:00You can do a pair, a set.
31:02But you do have to choose.
31:0310 seconds, guys.
31:04I'm going to stay quiet.
31:05You can pick whatever you want.
31:06Shop my space.
31:07I'm going to sit and enjoy.
31:08OK.
31:08I think we should go here.
31:09Or here.
31:10And we'll try to make it work.
31:10I think we're going to do this.
31:11Yeah, this.
31:12I can't wait to see how you use them.
31:13Thank you so much.
31:15Great choice.
31:15Bye.
31:15I really like those.
31:16And those were $5.99 each.
31:18Enjoy.
31:18Love.
31:19Love it.
31:20OK, we got to move.
31:21Yeah.
31:23How about a little bar moment there?
31:25Ready?
31:26Yeah.
31:26Big reveal.
31:28Yay.
31:29Hiya.
31:30The Peter Collection.
31:32Yeah.
31:33The Peter.
31:34Sorry.
31:35Rearranging.
31:36I wish we had more time.
31:37This is the fun part.
31:42I think we should kind of want to like touch,
31:44touch with a little damp.
31:45Like a little.
31:45Like this.
31:46Like at least one of them.
31:47I'd be like, ooh, inviting.
31:48You know?
31:49I have scavenged some pastries.
31:53Oh.
31:54God bless you.
31:57Look how lovely they look in our.
31:59I love that.
32:00Darling little.
32:01Let's put it.
32:02Cousy.
32:03In my perfect wooden bowl.
32:06I mean, that's just stupid.
32:10I feel like we're cleaning our house.
32:12Hi, sweetie.
32:15I can't check that out.
32:17Design teams.
32:20Time is up.
32:23We did it.
32:24Little blue boys in their little blue room.
32:26I love how our room came together.
32:29So what are we now up against?
32:31It's time.
32:32Are you ready to meet the judges?
32:42All right, Danny and William, John and Oliver.
32:46Are you ready to meet the judges?
32:47Yeah.
32:47We're ready.
32:48All right.
32:48Oh, judges, come on out.
32:50Hi.
32:50Hi, guys.
32:55I recognize them from Instagram.
32:58I know them, follow them, love them, and I'm obsessed.
33:01Colorful design influencer, Danny Clarif.
33:04Design mogul, Preston Conrad.
33:06And Broadway actor, Robert Hartwell.
33:08The key ingredient that is taking a space from like, okay, girl, to like, oh, I am that girl,
33:15is your edit.
33:17I love thrifting because I feel like it makes you push your boundaries.
33:19You have to get creative.
33:21And that's really where you find the unique and amazing pieces that make your home a home.
33:25There's always room for negotiation.
33:27And my theory is it never hurts to ask.
33:29The worst they can say is no.
33:35The criteria that the judges are looking for is threefold.
33:39Number one, they want to see which team has the best eye when out thrifting.
33:43Number two, which team executed their assigned design style best.
33:48And finally, the judges want a cohesive room.
33:51They want this room to look like a million bucks,
33:53even though we all know it took two days and a budget of just $2,000.
34:01Judges, why don't you go ahead and take a look at the rooms?
34:04I'm so ready.
34:04Hello, hello.
34:06Hi.
34:06We're joining you for dinner, okay?
34:08Absolutely.
34:11Modern to us is all about the clean lines, contemporary style,
34:14and then the glam comes in with all the materials.
34:16So the travertine, the leather, the crystal, like that's how we kind of invoked the room.
34:21Yeah, I think every room, it stands on its foundation, which is the walls, the color.
34:27And I think that's absolutely where you all succeed here with this beautiful color.
34:32And I love that it's picking up in the rug as well.
34:36Right on.
34:37These jewel tones are like the hottest thing.
34:40And I like that you took it into a glam way.
34:42I was thinking whatever we walked into would be black, gold, white, marble.
34:47And I like that it's unexpected.
34:48I would love to know where your budget went because, you know, this chandelier and this table
34:53both look pretty pricey to me.
34:55So we spend a lot of money on the table.
34:57How much?
34:58And we all spend a lot of money on the table.
34:59All we want to know is how much.
35:00Numbers, numbers, numbers.
35:01So it was 580.
35:04That's more than a quarter of your budget though.
35:06Yeah.
35:06That's a risk.
35:07And this one was 560.
35:10Wait.
35:10Yeah.
35:11Wait, so wait, hold on.
35:12Wait.
35:12You spent half of the budget on the two items?
35:15Yes.
35:15Yes.
35:15Wow.
35:16We have to have crystal to be glam, so we have to spend the money.
35:20I do love the chandelier.
35:22I would have liked to see something more luxurious for the chairs.
35:25I mean, even like a fluffy chair, like if there was some sort of kind of like...
35:29If it had a little more character, personality, I feel like it would have made the space look
35:33way more luxurious and more glam.
35:35We've painted the chairs.
35:36What color were they?
35:38They're originally brown leather.
35:39Okay.
35:39So with an acrylic, you still get the flexibility.
35:41So they're durable and you can polycoat them.
35:44I think this is such a great takeaway.
35:46Like I would never think you could paint this chair and it's such a fun idea.
35:49I just think some of the elements to me, like maybe the console table feels a little
35:54transitional, a little kind of everyday.
35:56This was actually already here.
35:58Oh, it was.
35:58So we just took it and went black.
36:00Fantastic.
36:01So we painted this, painted the hardware as well.
36:02I'm just obsessed that with the time and the budget that you showed us,
36:06that a piece could transition into something else.
36:09Because I think when we're thinking of sustainability, we're always saying,
36:12oh, what can I really repurpose pieces that we already have in our home?
36:17Thank you guys for bringing us to your space.
36:19Absolutely.
36:19Thank you for coming.
36:20Nice to meet you.
36:21You'll come back for a cocktail later.
36:22Yeah, we will.
36:23We'll be back.
36:24See?
36:24See?
36:25See?
36:26Oh.
36:27Hi, guys.
36:27Hello, darlings.
36:29Hello, darlings.
36:30Hello, darlings.
36:31We're just feeling very British in here.
36:33Tidy and shizzing.
36:36We knew that we wanted to have a mix of woods and old pieces, but we wanted it to still
36:42feel
36:43fresh and vibrant, which is how we landed on these brighter blue colors.
36:48It's not easy to do stripes.
36:50I've been there.
36:51That's difficult.
36:52It's so time consuming.
36:53And they're really good.
36:53They're pretty sharp.
36:54I love a good pattern.
36:55So I think the stripes is amazing.
36:57And I really appreciate the trim that you guys did.
36:59I think it really made the space feel more grounded and more eclectic.
37:03I love this room.
37:04I have a cottage and I want my cottage to look like this.
37:08The Brits are great with mixed seating where it just looks like it's found objects like
37:12this rattan bench.
37:14This chair doesn't match that chair.
37:15I like that kind of gathered feel.
37:18You guys have a lot of furniture in here.
37:21Was there one thing in particular that really took the budget from you?
37:25I have to say one of the things I'm most proud of is that we came in way under budget.
37:30Why?
37:30By how much?
37:31We only spent about $1,500.
37:33What?
37:33Why didn't you blow it all?
37:35Some of our most significant pieces, this table, the hutch here, a lot of the decor all came from
37:42Salvation Army.
37:43No.
37:44Like how much are we talking per piece?
37:45We spent like $200 total there.
37:49For all three of those pieces?
37:50We got some deals.
37:52This is amazing and this is insane.
37:54Did you guys see the legs on this table?
37:56The legs are amazing.
37:57It's really beautiful.
37:58Wow.
37:59I know you were low on time, but I would have loved to sand this table down and
38:04sand it a little darker, a little richer.
38:07Yeah.
38:07A place that I would have wanted you to go a little further is the light fixture.
38:13It would have been really wonderful to feel maybe something a little more rustic.
38:18I would have loved to maybe see something that grounds the space a bit more.
38:21I agree with the light and the rug.
38:24I'm not in love with that rug.
38:26Of course, they don't love the light fixture.
38:28Of course, they don't love the rug.
38:29The last two things that we were rushing out to get, I'm feeling like I'm gonna have a heart attack.
38:38Did you have a rug before here or no?
38:40We didn't.
38:41There was no rug.
38:42I prefer you have one, but I'm not in love with that rug.
38:44I would have loved to see something more warmth or something with more texture,
38:47but I love the fact that you guys left that open and showed us that you also styled the inside.
38:53The styling is amazing.
38:54The styling is amazing.
38:55Stop it right now.
38:56That's amazing.
38:57Well, that's the part I want to see.
38:59And the fact that you guys were under budget is so crazy to me.
39:02It just really teaches you that you can fully thrift a full space and make it look amazing.
39:07I just love the mix of the woods, the plates that you have on the wall.
39:11Like, I'm, like, going insane because I really like the space.
39:14It's amazing.
39:15Thanks, guys.
39:15See you.
39:16Thank you, guys.
39:16Bye.
39:17Come back anytime.
39:18Of course, the perfectionist in me is like, I don't want any critiques whatsoever.
39:22But no matter what happens, I'm proud and I'm happy of how it turned out.
39:28Good job.
39:30Good job.
39:35I'm so nervous.
39:39The teams had to create a dining room with a budget of just $2,000.
39:45So for that, I say congratulations to everybody.
39:48It's not easy.
39:49Judges, which design team have you chosen as the winner of that thrifting show?
39:56This is not an easy decision.
39:59You both stayed true to your design styles.
40:01They were bold.
40:02They were eclectic.
40:03They were very fun to look at.
40:04But without further ado, the winner of that thrifting show is...
40:20Oh, my God, I'm dying.
40:23John and Oliver.
40:26Congratulations, John and Oliver.
40:29Thank you, guys.
40:30It's so exciting.
40:32It doesn't seem real.
40:33Like, did this happen?
40:34Did these last two days happen?
40:35Did we actually do this?
40:37Congratulations.
40:40John and Oliver, the styling in the room was amazing, but we really loved your shopping in the room.
40:46The fact that you still had money left is kind of a risk, but everything worked really,
40:51really beautifully.
40:51You have a great eye, and congratulations.
40:53Thank you so much.
40:54You guys win not only bragging rights, but also the perfectly curated pieces from your room,
41:01and also the incredible dining table and all of the other beautiful pieces.
41:08Congratulations to John and to Oliver.
41:11We came, we saw, we thrifted.
41:14Back up the truck, guys.
41:16We got a stone table together.
41:19Hello, it's John.
41:21It's Oliver here.
41:23We're back in New York City.
41:24We're in my apartment.
41:26Still riding the high from our win.
41:28We had so much fun, so we decided to donate all of our winnings,
41:36kind of recycle it back into the thrifting community,
41:39because we both live in New York City, and our apartments are too small.
41:44Like, there's my dining room back there.
41:46It has a little table.
41:47There's no way I could fit all of that furniture in here.
41:50I only have an eating kitchen.
41:51I don't have room for two dining rooms, but alone one.
41:54We had so much fun.
41:55We had a blast competing against the other team,
41:58and the whole experience was just really, really great.
42:01The best.
