00:23Hello, I'm Johan, I'm the studio manager of Paradox Development Studio
00:28and today we're going to talk about Natives and how the new features for Natives works in our new expansion
00:35for European Results 4, Conquest of Paradise.
00:38Originally in the release of EU4, the Natives of North America worked exactly like every other country.
00:45In this expansion, they have some really, really unique features and today we're going to go into depth about them.
00:52First of all, in EU4, the technology path means that if you progress slowly, as those outside of Europe tend
00:59to do,
01:00there's less of things to build, less of things to invest your power in, less ideas and that makes it
01:06for slightly duller gameplay.
01:08So what we've done was to enhance that gameplay and give, first of all, we gave the Natives a parallel
01:15advancement track.
01:16Basically, as long as you're a native state, you can invest your administrative, diplomatic and military power into what we
01:24call native advancements.
01:26When you have filled up all these various advances, that gives you bonus to the amount of diplomatic relations you
01:33have,
01:34how your troops fight, etc.
01:37You can really focus on different things and different orders.
01:40When you fill them all up, you can try to reform your country and start on the westernization track.
01:48Another drawback as a native was the fact that since your technology lagged behind,
01:53you couldn't really get all that many buildings to build, so you're accumulating money and nothing to spend on them.
01:59So what we've done is create 10 unique buildings for natives that only the North American natives have,
02:05rebuild buildings that give immediate big impacts for power and money.
02:11The interesting trade-off here is that you spend power, you get all these benefits from your buildings,
02:17but as long as you only have one province, you can always migrate your tribe to another province.
02:23And when you migrate, you give up your previous province, you lose all your buildings there,
02:28but you get a big power boost for moving about.
02:31So if you're small, you want to keep moving your tribe as often as you can,
02:35get more power, advance further in the advancement chain and technology,
02:40but then you can't really conquest and settle down.
02:43So you have the trade-off of like, do I want to be a migrating tribe to try to get
02:46advanced that way,
02:48or do I want to be like building up my economy, having a strong base?
02:51So this is like, you have two different paths of trying to go as a native power.
02:57Also, natives have a unique diplomatic ability called federation.
03:02A strong native tribe can invite other tribes to join a federation together with them.
03:08This federation is kind of like a defensive alliance,
03:11so that when you're attacked by anyone from the outside,
03:14you all band together and defend against the outsider.
03:17This is one of the ways we made it so that the natives have a chance to band together
03:23and try to throw out the advanced Western Europeans as they come.
03:28We've added over 25 more tribes now.
03:32You can now play the Sioux, the Lennapa, Ilinwin Neck, and Miami, and all those.
03:39And you'll have really good fun playing all these unique small tribes.
03:56And you'll have really good fun playing all these little tribes.
03:59And you'll have really good fun playing all these little tribes.
