00:04Hello, welcome to Access, I'm Rob and I'm here with Dave, and we're talking about the Uncharted 4 gameplay that
00:09was recently shown at the PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas, specifically seven new things that are in Uncharted 4, Dave,
00:15and the first one is amazing new facial detail.
00:19Face!
00:20Look at Nathan Drake's face on PS4.
00:22I'd love to.
00:23You can see every little bit of sweat that's on that face.
00:27Beads, paws.
00:28You can see it.
00:28I know, it's fantastic.
00:30And obviously Uncharted's always had this really kind of sophisticated motion capture technology, so I guess in terms of storytelling
00:38and just how it looks, it's going to really bring the series forward.
00:43I hope it's going to at least.
00:44Absolutely, and you know, Nolan North already does such a great job just with Drake's voice of telling us what
00:50Drake's feeling and stuff.
00:52I can't wait to see it combined with his, like, face.
00:55And look what else Naughty Dog have made.
00:56They haven't just made his face.
00:58They've made a whole world that looks incredible.
01:02I mean, obviously Uncharted looks amazing.
01:03It always has done.
01:04Yeah.
01:05But here, look at that waterfall.
01:08I know I always bang on about water, but that waterfall is amazing.
01:11I thought you might have been quite excited about that waterfall.
01:14I'm not convinced that they didn't actually just motion cap a waterfall.
01:18Let's put tons of those tiny little balls down a waterfall and get it because it just looks, that water
01:24is real.
01:24I'm telling you, that water is real.
01:26I mean, this is cool as well.
01:27I mean, it is kind of hard to see, especially on YouTube when it's all kind of compressed anyway, how
01:35much better the water does look than it did in Uncharted 3.
01:38But look at the way it just reacts to his body here.
01:41It's not an animation.
01:42It's like he's moving through a physically programmed thing.
01:46Do you remember, Rob, how excited we all were when the first Uncharted came out and he went through a
01:51pond and came out and his clothes were wet?
01:53Yeah.
01:53That's still in there.
01:54It's just great, isn't it?
01:55I'm still excited.
01:55And it still looks amazing.
01:57Yeah, me too.
01:58We're not mentioning how amazing the sun looks there.
02:00Yeah, the lighting.
02:01Which is another cool thing, like his hands.
02:03And I'm guessing he's manipulating this with the DualShock 4 here and you can turn those things around.
02:07And I also like how he puts the journal away in his back pocket and it stays there.
02:11It's there.
02:11A bit like Joel did in The Last of Us with everything in his rucksack.
02:14You know, he physically had to take it off and he would pull stuff out of it.
02:18And it seems like Uncharted is, you know, learning some lessons from The Last of Us, which is really cool.
02:24Definitely.
02:24And the next thing we want to talk about is the new climbing.
02:28Yeah.
02:30Again, there's always been climbing in Uncharted, but here it looks far more.
02:34Look at that, the way he kind of like pulled his arms around there.
02:37There are tons of animations in there and the way they all kind of merge together to create this seamless
02:44action that he's doing.
02:46It's really, really impressive.
02:48It's a fundamental part of Nathan Drake as well, isn't it?
02:51You can see his character in the way he climbs.
02:53You know, he's not like perfect.
02:54It's not like he has little mistakes like that.
02:57It's not like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 2.
02:58Although he does make it look incredibly easy, he also sort of makes a bit of a meal of it.
03:02No man is ever going to be able to do this.
03:04Absolutely not.
03:05And he's also got this new spike thing.
03:07Indeed, you can see the rock's got a different sort of texture when you can puncture it.
03:11You may spike climb up this rock.
03:14Puncture me.
03:15But it also suggests that climbing maybe and maybe traversal is going to play more of a role in Uncharted
03:22than it has before.
03:23Because traditionally it was just a way for Nathan Drake to get from one gunfight to another gunfight.
03:29But here it looks like the climbing sections might be more substantial.
03:33Which would be really cool.
03:34There was a lot in this bit of gameplay that they've shown off.
03:36And we're talking about stealth now, Dave.
03:40And an important thing in stealth, you were looking at this earlier, is the foliage.
03:46Yeah.
03:46The way he hides in the leaves.
03:48Yeah.
03:48Tell me what you said earlier.
03:50I just said, first of all, that foliage looks amazing.
03:53But second of all, now it looks like he really is hiding in it.
03:57You know, like, I can look at him there.
03:59I can see how an enemy would struggle to see him there in the foliage.
04:02He's really well hidden there.
04:03And I think a lot of it has to do with how the foliage feels so solid.
04:09Like you said, it looks like it's actually there.
04:12Yeah.
04:12Whereas, mainly on PS3, leaves would be just little papery textures.
04:17And you'd be able to see things through them.
04:18And they wouldn't feel like actual plants.
04:21But here they really do.
04:22And it's always been a little bit of a problem in any stealth game.
04:25You know, sometimes that's that feeling of, am I actually hidden?
04:27You know, I'm behind a box.
04:28Can I be seen?
04:29I don't know.
04:30This, I feel like you can really see in this when Nathan Drake is hidden.
04:35But then he does get seen.
04:36He does get seen.
04:37And it's time for some amazing combat.
04:39He goes loud.
04:40Look at that.
04:41See you later.
04:41Contextual takedowns.
04:43Again, we've had contextual takedowns before.
04:45But the ones in Uncharted 4.
04:46I mean, what's striking me most about this bit of combat here is how large and open this area is.
04:52And how many different places there are for him to move to.
04:56There always seems to be an option available to him.
04:58Like previously, you'd be in, say, a courtyard.
05:01And you'd have five bits of cover that you'd be able to move between.
05:04That's true.
05:04And you'd know the layout of the fight.
05:06This is cool.
05:07I love that.
05:08It's very unpredictable.
05:09And the fight revolves as you move through the air.
05:14And this is amazing.
05:14This is my favorite bit.
05:16How am I going to get away from this grenade?
05:18I know.
05:18I'll grab it on this tree.
05:19Which just so happens I can kill a man from it as well.
05:23No, I think you're absolutely right, actually, there, Rob.
05:24That's a really good point.
05:26It does seem like much more open.
05:27There's always different places to go, different ways to approach things.
05:31And the enemy AI as well looks vastly improved.
05:34Before, this would just be an animation and he'd be dead.
05:36But no, he grabs it.
05:37That is cool.
05:38And I don't dare think what might happen if you don't press square enough in that time.
05:43But I want to find out, to be honest, because I know it'll look amazing.
05:46I love this bit as well.
05:48Just the way you can use, you know, it's not all about just shooting.
05:53You can use grenades as a, almost like a diversion tactic here.
05:57That could be obviously made that guy retreat.
05:59And now he's hidden.
06:00This smoke as well is hidden.
06:01Like, it's a substantial thing.
06:02Like, that guy, you can't see through the smoke.
06:04And you can't see through the smoke either.
06:05Then, like, it's a proper...
06:06And this is the next key point I wanted to talk about.
06:08Was that stealth is now an actual option within combats.
06:13Before, you would get seen.
06:14You would have stealth and uncharted.
06:15But as soon as you got seen, instantly, every enemy in that area would know automatically where Nathan Drake was.
06:21Here, in combat, you can break line of sight.
06:24They can go from knowing where you are.
06:26And if you stay hidden for long enough, they will kind of be actively searching for you.
06:29A bit like Metal Gear.
06:30A bit like The Last of Us.
06:31Yeah.
06:32Really.
06:32And you can actually sneak through these combat areas.
06:36You don't have to kill every enemy in order to trigger some kind of, you know, thing that allows you
06:42to progress to the next area.
06:44Yeah, absolutely.
06:45You can...
06:45He's lost...
06:46The enemies have lost sight of him here.
06:47And what we're going to see is Drake just looking around.
06:51No, they can't see him either.
06:53And he's able to actually move to the next area now.
06:56Which suggests that stealth may be an option in the game.
07:01You might not have to kill everyone if you don't want to.
07:03Because there's always been that thing that Nathan Drake's a really nice man, but he murders people all the time.
07:06Yeah.
07:07So now...
07:08He doesn't have to do that.
07:09Maybe he doesn't have to be a murderer.
07:11Maybe he can just be a really sneaky man.
07:12And this grapple's just cool.
07:14They're all cool.
07:15It's just cool.
07:16I want to see R1 all the time.
07:17And there's one final new thing in Uncharted, Dave.
07:23Can you guess what it is?
07:25Well, I don't have to guess, Rob, because I saw already.
07:28But for those who haven't, here it comes.
07:31There's an actor in it you might have heard of called Troy Baker.
07:35Everyone's heard of Troy Baker.
07:36Troy Baker?
07:37He's in every...
07:37There he is.
07:38He plays Nathan Drake's older brother.
07:40Boom!
07:41If this dialogue here is anything to go by.
07:44Because it kind of gives the game away by saying, little brother.
07:47Little brother.
07:48Maybe it's just a cool thing.
07:49I call you little brother all the time.
07:50You do.
07:51It's a friendly thing.
07:51There you go.
07:52There are seven new things in Uncharted 4.
07:55I'm ridiculously excited about it.
07:57I think Dave's ridiculously excited as well.
08:00Stay tuned to the channel as we'll be having, I imagine, loads more on this game as it drops.
08:16We'll be having, I imagine, loads more on this game as well.
