00:14No
00:15Yeah, and we thought we'd go through seven moments from the game that we are really looking forward to playing
00:20again on PS4, and it was actually quite hard choosing seven, wasn't it?
00:25I wanted to choose these curtains, and you said, don't be ridiculous.
00:29No, don't be silly.
00:30But honestly, it's one of the classiest menu screens we've seen.
00:32You can't have curtains at the moment.
00:34So our first moment is actually?
00:35The opening.
00:36Yeah.
00:36We're starting with the opening of the game, and there's quite a lot of reasons.
00:41I mean, initially we kind of thought about the chaos and the drama that's to come in a moment, but
00:46then we started talking about this room.
00:48This is the first thing you see in the game, and I remember when I first booted it up, and
00:51I was absolutely amazed just at the level of detail and polish and care that had gone into creating Sarah's
01:00bedroom.
01:01We were talking about, yeah, I can't remember which, it was like a developer that one of us had seen
01:05on Twitter was just talking about the quality of this beanbag.
01:08It is amazing.
01:09In this room, like what kind of a studio has time to craft a beanbag of that quality?
01:14That's probably someone's entire job.
01:16Just beanbag operator.
01:17For a week.
01:17I reckon that's a week's worth of work there, that beanbag.
01:20But the whole, obviously it's a very different pace to the rest of the game, but the kind of the
01:25slow build-up.
01:26This room I found really dramatic.
01:27The stories on TV, the mirrors there.
01:30It looks incredible as well, the lighting and the shadows and the way that the TV casts a kind of
01:36a glow and everything, but then the fact that you can still see stuff out the window and it's still
01:39like a live area.
01:40Look at this bit, the way it connects.
01:41Oh, explosion happens there.
01:43You look out the window.
01:44And it's there.
01:45And there it is.
01:46And then the mirror's going on at the same time.
01:48I don't know, man.
01:48We should probably also say now, if you haven't played The Last of Us yet, do not watch this video.
01:53Oh, mega spoilers, yeah.
01:54Just don't watch it.
01:55I mean, obviously.
01:56And this was one of my favourite bits, the phone.
01:59The noise it made and the kind of neon glow was perfect.
02:03And I thought someone at Naughty Dog has, for reference, got a mobile phone, they've put it on a table
02:08and they've looked at how it reacts to the wood and the kind of sound it makes.
02:12And this is the first kind of dramatic bit you get in the game where you realise, oh no, this
02:17is going to be bad.
02:18But the whole thing's going to be...
02:20This apocalypse might not be the laugh ride that I thought it was going to be.
02:24It's not the laugh of us, is it?
02:26It's the last of us.
02:27I'm going to skip over that.
02:29And this is kind of the moment, when we first spoke about putting the opening in as one of the
02:33moments we were looking forward to play, this was really what I was thinking of, this section.
02:37I remember being really impressed with being able to play as Sarah in the back of the car.
02:42You like how you can look around the car.
02:44Yeah, exactly.
02:45And we were talking about how Thief made a big deal about the hands on the sides of the screen,
02:49which was a good thing in Thief, but just the way that her hands...
02:52I can't believe we're talking about contextual hand placement, but we are.
02:55That is one of the things I was most excited about, about replaying the last of us on PS4.
02:59And then the section is kind of the breakdown of everything that we know and hold dear to us in
03:05civilisation.
03:06It's strange, isn't it, how everyone reacts to just a disease coming out, and there's always a bad car crash.
03:14Yeah.
03:15Bad decision, and then you're out on it.
03:16This is the actual kind of moment, though, is running through a crowded street full of people and everything that
03:22was going on, and the hecticness of it.
03:23Then why would you drive straight into a petrol station?
03:26I know it's chaos, but you would at least look where you're going, wouldn't you?
03:28I don't know.
03:29I mean, to be honest, it wouldn't have made any difference.
03:32We've got that guy, and everyone around him will be dead soon anyway.
03:36So he can drive where he likes.
03:38Sad, sad times.
03:38It's one of the few times that it's actually fine to drive into a petrol station, if you think about
03:42it like that.
03:43Those guys as well.
03:45I hope you've cut away here.
03:46I don't want to see this moment again.
03:48Yeah, because we were talking about moments that we're looking forward to playing through.
03:53I don't know about this.
03:54I don't know whether I'm actually looking forward to seeing this again in glorious 1080, because it's really horrible and
04:02harrowing and sad.
04:04But it was a great way to say, you know, this is what you're going to be playing through for
04:10the next 20-odd hours.
04:12Number two.
04:13I just don't want to think about it.
04:14Number two.
04:15So we're somewhere else now.
04:17This is the first time you encounter clickers.
04:20And as enemies, we spent a day making this video.
04:25We could have probably made it in less time than that.
04:27But basically, we played quite a lot of the game again.
04:31And you remember the look of the game and you remember the story of the game.
04:36I think that's probably what's most impressive.
04:38But the combat was like, I think we were both there just going, the combat's brilliant.
04:42Just the way he skorks around is brilliant.
04:44And then you remember the tricks that you pick up when you play the game.
04:47And my one and only trick is to throw something and then run and snap.
04:51Well, let's not spoil your trick, Nath, because we're about to see it.
04:53But I remember the very first time I played this, I was literally, I was like, how the hell am
04:57I going to take that thing on?
04:58And playing through it again is going to have a different feel.
05:00It's going to have very much a feel of throwing bricks.
05:02Throwing the brick, get something out and smack its head off.
05:06There we go.
05:07Clicker dealt with.
05:08And this is the first encounter in the, I can't remember what this area is called.
05:14It's the outskirts of Boston.
05:15The outskirts of Boston.
05:16The toppled high rise.
05:18And just plotting your way around a stealthy encounter against the...
05:21Stealthing an enemy that can't see you but can hear you.
05:25Made me panic in a way that no other game has.
05:28Quite often you'd be standing there thinking, has it noticed I'm here?
05:31Has it noticed I'm here?
05:32And it kind of be stumbling towards you.
05:34And then at the last minute you'd realise, okay, it knows I'm here.
05:36And then it's too late because one bite from a clicker and you're just dead.
05:41Check me out, actually doing this the way you're supposed to.
05:43Yeah.
05:43It took me a long time to edit this, Nath.
05:46Killed one thing, serious?
05:47Going through here, picking out bits where you weren't rubbish.
05:50Oh, I thought he was done but he's not done.
05:52I needed one more blow.
05:53I mean, this is kind of...
05:54But this is it though.
05:55The combat, isn't it?
05:56The plan goes wrong.
05:57You run away.
05:57You run away.
05:58Running, clumsy...
05:59You end up in the other end of a corridor.
06:01I mean, this is...
06:02Oh!
06:03That man's face is no more.
06:07Oh, man.
06:08Yeah, the...
06:09And I was trying to do this over and over so we'd have an excellent bit of combat to show.
06:13What it reminded me like, you end up cornered, just desperately...
06:17Just get the gun out and shoot.
06:18Just shoot.
06:18And you just think, how many bullets have I got left?
06:20This is later on in the game.
06:21This is in the sewers.
06:23Captain Molotov.
06:24I had a lot of stuff here and I don't think I necessarily...
06:27I've nearly burnt Sam.
06:29I don't think I used...
06:29And this is what happens if you let a clicker get too close to you.
06:32I haven't deserved that more than once.
06:33Just die.
06:35This is one of your choices, number three.
06:37Yeah, I really liked this bit at the dam and we were saying yesterday when we went through
06:40here, this is before the actual action bit happens.
06:43You can tell that there's going to be a shootout because look at this area.
06:47I wonder why there's all this waste level objects laid out in a kind of grid.
06:53It looks a lot like a multiplayer map, doesn't it?
06:55Yeah.
06:56Yeah, it does.
06:57And sure enough, it gets invaded.
06:58You're asking to be invaded if you live in a fictional shooting universe and that's how
07:03you lay out your dam.
07:04The reason I liked it was because this area, the story kind of set it up to be like a
07:10nice
07:10rest area, like a haven where you're just going to come here, some story's going to happen
07:15and then you're going to leave and play the game again.
07:17But that tranquility was interrupted by these bandits who attacked.
07:21Thank you very much.
07:21That was my headshot.
07:22That was a very good headshot, yeah.
07:24That was a good shot as well.
07:25It's hard.
07:26That's the thing about watching the game.
07:27It's always harder to aim than it looks like it should be if you're just watching.
07:30It's like really, brilliantly hard to aim.
07:33It feels like how I would aim if I was actually aiming a gun, kind of clumsily and unsure.
07:39His arm came off, by the way.
07:40His arm definitely came off.
07:41That was one of the things that happened.
07:43No, this is kind of a three-stage fight and what I liked about it is, I think my favourite
07:47bit in the whole fight is when Tommy, your brother, says to you, like, Joel do your thing
07:53and it's kind of, obviously, you never, I don't think you ever really find out why they
07:59ended up going their separate ways, but obviously Joel reacted to the end of the world and the
08:03loss of his daughter in quite a dark way and he survived by just becoming insanely hard
08:09and you really come into your own, I feel like, when the dam gets invaded, you're like,
08:13well, I'm going to just kill everyone now and that's what I did.
08:17Yeah, it's a, every section, every room of this game just looks, looks just so brilliantly
08:26designed.
08:27Superb.
08:28Okay, so point number four.
08:30This was my favourite one, even though I didn't actually enjoy, this is winter, when you're
08:34first, so this is where the game's central twisters, or it just happened, and you're, Joel gets
08:39injured and then there's like a, just a bit of a lapse of time and then you're suddenly
08:43you're Ellie and this is the opening scene where you're, it's like a really brilliant
08:48demonstration.
08:48Good shot.
08:49Thank you.
08:50Of her, um, independence and how she has to kind of grow as a character now that Joel's
08:55out of the picture for a little while and you're hunting a deer, which I was terrible
08:58at the first time I played the game.
08:59This time, two shots and that deer was dead.
09:02Thank you.
09:03It's also a very beautiful bit of the game.
09:06Yeah, it is, yeah, until, until David turns out.
09:09And here he is now.
09:10You did a better impression.
09:12Thank you.
09:12Um, I didn't actually realise this was Nolan North voicing David until I'd finished the
09:16game and saw it on the credits.
09:18No, I was the same.
09:19So I think he's done a very good job.
09:21Um, but this whole section just turns very sinister and horrible towards the end and you
09:28feel already so protective of Ellie and it really kind of ramps up the tension.
09:33And it comes out in you, you become kind of like Joel and you want to protect her, but
09:36in doing that, in playing as her, because she has the knife and as we've already discussed,
09:41my way of killing stuff is basically to throw a brick at them and stab them in the eye.
09:45and her knife doesn't break because it's made of just super iron.
09:49It's just super knife.
09:50And I...
09:51It's like having unlimited shivs.
09:52So to me, she's actually, she's actually in some ways deadlier than Joel, which I don't
09:55think is an accident and which I really like in the game that there's a, um, a really
10:00super capable young female character who can, you know, grabs a hunting knife, bends
10:05off horrible, odd cannibal dudes.
10:09And, uh, we were also talking yesterday about how satisfying all the reloading was as well.
10:13Yeah.
10:13How you like the reloading in the game.
10:15I like this.
10:15This hadn't happened to me in my first playthrough, but it happened to me yesterday.
10:17That guy who's just grabbed your horse looks a lot like Bruce Straley.
10:20I wonder if that was deliberate.
10:22Does Bruce really like horses?
10:24Maybe if I ever get into him again, I'll ask.
10:26He just likes...
10:27Is that you?
10:28In the game.
10:29It's bad horses.
10:29Grabbing the horse.
10:30And then you lose the horse.
10:32And I, I fatally shot a man in the butter.
10:35It's hunting time.
10:36And this is also one of my favourite bits, just stalking through the wilderness.
10:40Oh, you've been jumped there.
10:42But shot him in the arm and then in the chest.
10:44And he's down.
10:45I love using the bonus game.
10:46And I love the whole feel of, of winter.
10:48That it gives it, like, just slows it down and just makes it a completely different game
10:51with a completely different atmosphere.
10:52Each chapter was a completely different game.
10:55Giraffes.
10:56Um, this is, um, this was the first thing that we both said when we said we wanted to make
11:02this video.
11:02Okay, what moment do we want in the, in this video?
11:04We both instantly said the giraffes.
11:06Yeah.
11:06First of all.
11:07Look at this giraffe's tongue.
11:09Ready?
11:10Do you know what?
11:11That is a perfect giraffe tongue.
11:14What I thought when I was capturing this yesterday was the, his eye is massive.
11:18Yeah.
11:18Just got a huge black sad eye.
11:20Um, yeah.
11:22And I think, I don't know, like, Barry, we were talking about what The Last of Us does
11:25that a few other games do and, um, building up a world and just putting things into it
11:30that aren't just completely related to either action or story.
11:34And just a moment like this which catches you completely by surprise and, um, I don't
11:38know, says something which is, uh, bigger than, bigger than either of the kind of, you
11:43know, the main stuff that you just kind of suck out of games.
11:46It's something else entirely.
11:47Seeing them walk away here made me doubly sad because I knew as soon as they left, it
11:51was going to be back to...
11:52That I would try and shoot them.
11:54I can't believe you got your gun out of here.
11:56I wanted to see if you could.
11:58You can't.
11:58And you can't.
12:00Sorry, you would be back to...
12:01Uh, it would be back to shooting and surviving and trying not to be bitten by a clicker.
12:09It would be great if you could just live with the giraffes.
12:12I would love to walk off with them.
12:13Look, they're all leaving now.
12:14Maybe that would be an option in the PS4 remastered version.
12:17You'd just be able to walk away.
12:18It's like the game is saying, here's the last bit of niceness.
12:22It reminded me...
12:23And it's walking away.
12:24A lot of, uh, there's a really striking moment in 12 Monkeys, which I think might be taken
12:28from something else again, uh, where there's just a lion in, was it in New York Times Square?
12:32Is it in Times Square?
12:33I don't know.
12:33I've not seen the film.
12:36Don't talk to me about films, Dave.
12:38I've not seen any of them.
12:39And this is the hospital.
12:41This was, this is, this is, well, it's pretty much the end of the game.
12:44The reason I love this section, just because Joel is just full on badass at this point.
12:48And this, it's like a, it's like they designed a massive level for you to say, okay, I'm
12:53really good at that.
12:54What have you learned over the game?
12:55Show us how it's done.
12:56Show us how it's done.
12:57About strangling.
12:58That's what I've learned.
12:59I love how much, he's got like a flipping warehouse worth of weaponry on his back.
13:03He's got a flamethrower and assault rifle and axe.
13:07I've got arrows, even though I don't have a bow.
13:09I've just got loads of arrows.
13:11And it, you get a really good sense as well in this area of how good and contextual the
13:17combat is.
13:18We were saying yesterday about hitting a man with an axe and the way no two axe strikes
13:23are ever the same.
13:24Like, we'll see it in a minute.
13:25When you hit a man with an axe, it will make contact in, you know, never the same body part.
13:30But even if it is a fake, even if, you know, they have just found a way to make it
13:34look
13:34realistic, it looks really realistic.
13:37I did a lot of things.
13:39You just need him in the face.
13:41I love the skulking.
13:42I just love this whole area.
13:45Playing through it, I don't know, it's just, it's like a little playground for stealth.
13:52There's the axe.
13:53Oh!
13:54And just the way his kind of sound cuts off as well, just when it should.
13:58Oh, in the stomach!
13:58It's like halfway through some dialogue, and the dialogue will just cut off into a horrible
14:03dying gargle.
14:05There's one left, isn't there, at this point?
14:08Just bad.
14:08Supplies!
14:12I'm pleased that you've edited out where I accidentally climbed on top of one of these
14:15cabinets.
14:16Thank you for doing that.
14:17That's alright.
14:17Yeah, was it?
14:18Yeah, yeah.
14:19It was, I believe it was this man.
14:21I love, I love walking backwards!
14:23Yeah.
14:23Being crouched with Joel and walking backwards.
14:25Walking backwards was first introduced in Uncharted 3, if I'm not mistaken.
14:28Whatever.
14:29No man had ever been walking backwards.
14:31Bang!
14:32Quonk!
14:32It's just one axe hit in there, and down he goes.
14:35And I broke it off his shoulder as well.
14:36Here's Captain Molotov back in action.
14:39This is the next far up, isn't it?
14:41So this is just, I mean, obviously we're in super spoiler town, but this is very near
14:44the end of the game.
14:45Oh man, yeah, I'd already dropped a smoke bomb to confuse everyone.
14:48And I really like the lighting and the smoke.
14:51Confusing.
14:51And we were talking about how these kind of effects will look in 1080 on PlayStation 4.
14:56The only answer I can give at the moment, Rob, is really good.
14:59I hope they don't really.
15:00I can only imagine.
15:02And our very last point then, which you're going to have to talk to me about, Nath, because
15:07I have not actually played Left Behind yet.
15:09Oh, it's Left Behind.
15:09It's kind of slightly newer, and so we didn't want to really spoil anything in Left Behind
15:13at all.
15:14We're kind of, I think most people who are watching this video would have probably played
15:17the main Last of Us game at this point.
15:19Left Behind is the story-driven DLC.
15:22It kind of comes before the main game.
15:23It stars Ellie as opposed to Joel.
15:26You play Ellie all the way through, and it's split.
15:27There's kind of a split timeline where you're looking at things which happened to Ellie
15:31before she met Joel, just before they went on their journey.
15:34Yeah.
15:34And also during that winter section when there's a whole section which is kind of elided in
15:40the game.
15:40You know, she gets to play it.
15:42So it builds up this relationship that she had with Riley.
15:45And at the same time, the things that she experienced then kind of reflect upon that equally important
15:53section when she had to fend for herself during winter.
15:55It's like brilliantly structured.
15:56It's really, really good.
15:57And the two blend together very, very well.
15:59And then you get to play, you end up playing this section, which is the earlier section,
16:03before she goes on her journey.
16:05And it's kind of just loads of little character and story moments.
16:08But I don't know.
16:10They're really, it's just a really touching.
16:12It's actually fun to play.
16:13This bit I can't wait to do.
16:15They play.
16:15Where you have to do the roar.
16:17Well, yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:17Well, this is it.
16:18They kind of, they're plays on the game's regular mechanics.
16:22So stuff like the David fight in the main game, and just the ability to toss bricks like
16:26this.
16:27They become kind of tiny, throwaway moments of enjoyment between these two teenage girls.
16:32and like, you just, obviously a completely different feeling and atmosphere.
16:37It's just like, it's exceptional storytelling, man.
16:39It still turns horrible, though.
16:40Yeah, you still have to kill stuff, obviously.
16:42I was furious.
16:43I was like, I don't know how they found me at this point, because they can't see my flashlight.
16:47I must have messed something up.
