00:08What would happen if societal norms were stripped away?
00:10Would we become creative
00:12like Burning Man or would we
00:13become something oppressive like Lord of the Flies?
00:16When Marcus and I were first working
00:18on our Pits for Sunset Overdrive
00:19one of the things we focused on a lot was these different
00:22fashion trends and just people dressing
00:23in odd ways. We had a huge, huge
00:26collection of all these different ideas
00:27of like mods and rockers and
00:29just all kinds of crazy different fashion
00:31eras and we handed those to Jacinda
00:33and thank goodness she paired them down
00:35to something reasonable and doable.
00:37We started taking all the fashion reference they gave us
00:39and separating them out into three different buckets.
00:41Mainstream fashion is basically anything
00:43that a normal person would wear. Street fashion
00:45is something that comes out of street
00:47culture such as emo and goth.
00:49Costumes are something that someone from a particular culture
00:51group might wear or it's something you might even wear
00:53for Halloween. All the Sunset
00:55vanity takes from one or more of these buckets
00:57which makes them both relatable and understandable.
01:00Diversity was very important to me
01:02because it is all about player choice
01:04and being who you want to be and I think
01:05it definitely makes our game stand apart from other games.
01:08I think one of the interesting things
01:10about Sunset Overdrive is that most of our
01:12concept artists are actually not from the United States.
01:14I think this will appeal to a lot of different people.
01:17My team takes concepts from Vasily,
01:20our concept artists over in Russia.
01:22We wanted to embrace a bunch of different archetypes
01:24that you would see in pop culture and mash them together
01:26to create our own look.
01:28In Sunset Overdrive we allow you to choose from many
01:30different archetypes in the game.
01:31That includes different races, different body types,
01:34big and small, and different genders.
01:37We have outfits that are meant to be together
01:39and you can get them as presets in the game.
01:41You can combine all the different pieces
01:43to make exactly what you want.
01:44So if you get your Day of the Dead face paint,
01:46you can combine that with your wrestling pants,
01:49your chainmail shirt, and your cowboy boots.
01:51Every item that you unlock in the game
01:53will have Havoc Physics applied to it as well.
01:55So when you're running around the world,
01:56we really want you to feel like it's alive.
01:59Clothes sort of provide people's most obvious identity
02:02and can even act as masks.
02:04It was really important to me and Marcus
02:06that vanity stay as just a purely vanity element,
02:11that we didn't attach RPG stats
02:13or any other bonuses to it.
02:15And it was something that was a really big fight
02:17around the studio.
02:17Marcus and I just had to stand firm and say,
02:20you know, it's really important to this game
02:22that players be able to wear whatever they want to wear
02:25to express themselves.
02:29I like the hairstyles,
02:30especially the creepy 80s metal band style.
02:33I just like the way it looks moving around
02:35when you're doing our traversal in Sunset City.
02:37I would say that my favorite of all time
02:39is that we can be a luchador given the right combination.
02:43I mean, any chance to actually be a luchador
02:44running around Sunset City is pretty amazing.
02:47One of my favorite vanity items is the bunny ears.
02:50It's so absurd and weird.
02:52It just feels good running around with tall bunny ears.
02:54I don't know why I don't wear them all the time.
02:57For items that I can't really believe we got in,
03:00we do have a physics-based kangaroo head
03:04strapped to your crotch and nothing else.
03:07Oh, the kangaroo cut piece.
03:09Early on when we were pitching the game,
03:11Drew had used in a reference
03:12that he would be wearing nothing but a kangaroo cut piece.
03:16We knew we wanted it to be really different
03:17and really stylized and pretty out there,
03:20and it just seemed so absurd,
03:21but we started pitching it that way,
03:23and every pitch we did,
03:24we would talk about the kangaroo cut piece,
03:26and I think it was one of the first things
03:27you can look at or talk about
03:29and be like, now that is Sunset Overdrive.
03:32Oh, yeah!
03:34So after you've dressed up your character
03:35and you've got them looking the way you want,
03:37we've still got a ton of customization with the weapons,
03:40the traps, the amps,
03:41a lot of different things on the gameplay side.
03:44So thanks for coming to Comic-Con
03:46and checking Sunset Overdrive out.
03:48Hope you pick it up on October 28th
03:50and let your freak flag fly high.
04:04Xbox One, now starting at $3.99.
