00:01Psst, do you want to know a secret?
00:03Us Brits love the costas.
00:05We are fun!
00:07We are sun worshipers.
00:09Loads of fun.
00:11Cat's out the bag now, Linda.
00:12But it really is.
00:14And with over 300 days of that glorious sunshine a year,
00:18it sure beats the cold and grey of the old UK.
00:21Ah, this is a life.
00:23Living that dream can be blooming hard graft.
00:26Misty!
00:27My left, you're right.
00:29Stress level.
00:30Through the roof.
00:31But at the end of the working day...
00:33Girl power.
00:34Girl power.
00:35Come on, Sam.
00:36Forward.
00:36Booyah!
00:37The quality of life on the costas...
00:42...is priceless.
00:44Cheers.
00:45Peace and love.
00:46Cheers.
00:47That's why there will always be...
00:50Hold your horses.
00:51Easy go on.
00:52Chief rocks in the weather.
00:53Sun sea sand, what more could you ask for?
00:56Bargain-loving Brits in the sun.
01:00Today on the costas...
01:02Oh, hi.
01:03Hiya.
01:04Hiya.
01:04You all right?
01:05Mike and Yvonne roll out the welcome mat.
01:08We'd like to invite you back to us for a nice, authentic Spanish chicken stew.
01:13Rocking Johnny.
01:15Now, we are here to raise some funds for the people of Valencia.
01:19Faces his biggest musical challenge to date.
01:21I'm frightened to death.
01:23And Lorna and Steve...
01:24Hello, mate.
01:26...are still ticking off their Spanish Wander List.
01:29It's more nerve-wracking than I thought it was going to be.
01:41Right, Yvonne.
01:43Right.
01:43Have you put the notification on Facebook?
01:47No, I haven't.
01:48I'm just going to do it now.
01:50Something's trending in Torre Vieca.
01:52I want people to see your video.
01:54Or it's about to.
01:55Authentic Spanish pork stew.
01:58Yeah.
01:59Pig in heck.
02:00Yvonne's only gone and added cookery to the couple's YouTube channel.
02:03Hola.
02:04Hola.
02:04Where they share their Spanish adventures with fans online.
02:08It would appear we're on the pier.
02:10It would indeed.
02:11Exploring the Costa Blanca on their electric bikes.
02:14See how much you can get for a tenner.
02:16For a tenner.
02:17And embracing a bargain life in Spain.
02:19We are going to the beach.
02:21We love the beach, don't we?
02:23Yeah.
02:23But today is a bit different.
02:25Definitely the best way I get around.
02:28Yeah, I'm rolling.
02:29Oh!
02:31Oh, power's going to have to go on.
02:33Why?
02:33Oh, it's on now.
02:34Oh.
02:35Mike and Yvonne are hands-on,
02:37helping a couple of newcomers dive into Spanish life.
02:41We'll go round this way because there's somebody approaching.
02:46Not before a quick constitutional.
02:48You can't do this in Leeds.
02:50I'm going to take this camera down, just in case,
02:52and we'll keep our eye on it.
02:54Did you film us all the way down?
02:55Yeah, all the way down.
02:57Our subscribers love to see us travelling down on the bikes, don't they?
03:01Yeah.
03:01What did the beach say to the sea?
03:03OK, what did the beach say to the sea?
03:05Give us a wave.
03:06Aha!
03:09Oi, I do the gags.
03:11Mike's a retired cameraman, but he can't quite give it up.
03:14I do have this urge to create and film and photography as well.
03:19So it was the obvious thing to do to carry on doing the, you know, the videos.
03:26There was a fellow paddleboard in there, look.
03:27Yeah, we get a lot of thanks, don't we?
03:29Yeah, we do.
03:29Thanking us for the information.
03:31And we started...
03:32It was in 2020, it was like during Covid, and a lot of people couldn't get out here.
03:37So they really appreciated seeing the areas, maybe that they had property in already.
03:42It just made them feel as though they were here, and they were really appreciative of that.
03:47And I think that's why it took off so good at the beginning.
03:50Oh, we're holding hands.
03:51How romantic.
03:52Well, it's a romantic setting with on the sea.
03:55It's a romantic setting, eh?
03:56It is a lovely car park.
03:57We'll be having a romantic meal next.
03:59No time for that, I'm afraid, you two.
04:01Put me hat on.
04:02You're off to mentor some fellow Brits in expat life.
04:06We'll film our little trip back.
04:09It's always useful to have that footage.
04:12Cos we can use it anywhere, can't we?
04:14Yeah.
04:14Amanda and Darren are two subscribers of ours.
04:17They were asking us to do a vlog where we interviewed them
04:20so they could explain to people what you've got to do to bring your dog to Spain.
04:25And we are now rolling.
04:27Put me power on.
04:29Is that because you're going uphill?
04:30Yeah, I'm going uphill now.
04:31Look.
04:32Off we go.
04:33I'll see you there.
04:43Welcome to my house.
04:44Thanks, Johnny.
04:46Mi casa es tu casa.
04:47Musician Johnny's casa is a two-bedroom apartment in the casa,
04:51which he shares with his family.
04:53So here we have the two boys when they were a bit younger,
04:56myself and my wife, and my wife looking quite glamorous.
05:01Well, she is married to a rock star.
05:03Not very well hidden away is my electric guitar, my Fender Telecaster.
05:10Originally from the Wirral, Johnny's lived in Spain for 20 years.
05:14We come out to the balcony and we have the nice view to inspire me when I'm writing songs.
05:21And we have the music corner with the piano and the guitar.
05:25In the 1970s I was a guitarist in a group called the Mersey Beats.
05:31And when I left there I went solo.
05:33And I've sang all around the world, all around Europe, the USA, and ended up in Spain.
05:39And Rocking Johnny, as he's known in the Costas, is tuning up for a high-stakes gig this evening.
05:47We came up with the idea that we would do a charity gig in aid of Valencia.
05:52Of course, we've been watching the news and some of the film footage of cars being washed away
06:01and the stories of two young children being wrenched from their father's arms
06:07and disappearing into the floods.
06:10It's just unbelievable and we really needed to try to send some help there.
06:17Tonight's gig is all about raising money for Valencia.
06:21But Johnny and his family were affected by a flood much closer to home a few years ago.
06:26We've had extreme floods here where the water was in up to six feet, eight feet maybe in my garage.
06:36The water when we had the flood in 2016 was up to here.
06:40And the photographs that I've taken were from outside on the Paseo through these vents here,
06:47looking down at my car, which was totally submerged.
06:51We lost two cars. I lost all my music equipment and it was devastating.
06:57It's something we'll never forget.
06:59But it's nowhere near as devastating as how Valencia is.
07:04Good morning, Johnny.
07:05Good morning, Vinny. Are you ready for our recording session today?
07:08I am now setting up the microphones and everything, so yes.
07:12A friend and fan has challenged me to write a song,
07:18record it in the recording studio
07:20and then perform it at the fundraising event in the evening.
07:25And if I fulfil that challenge, he will donate €10,000.
07:31Wowza. Johnny's written the song,
07:33but he still needs to record it before he performs it at tonight's gig.
07:37We should be with you in another ten minutes.
07:41OK, great.
07:42And then we'll start recording the track.
07:45You're like a Costadel Bob Geldof.
07:47We won't finish it until late this afternoon
07:50and then the fundraiser starts at five o'clock.
07:54So I am nervous about performing it live
07:58and how it will be received by the crowd.
08:00I'll see you in about ten, fifteen minutes.
08:03That's great. Thanks, Vinny.
08:05Take care, Johnny. Bye-bye.
08:07Bye-bye.
08:08Johnny's got just one shot for that €10,000 donation.
08:12OK, we're going to record the song Pina Colada Bay that I've written
08:16and hopefully it's going to turn out good.
08:20But will it be a hit or a flop when he performs it for the first time?
08:28Coming up.
08:29Extremely looking forward to my day off for good behaviour.
08:31Rona and Steve are soaking up their Spanish dreams.
08:34Come on, then.
08:35There you go.
08:36Look at that side.
08:38And...
08:38Can you hear me, Johnny?
08:40I can hear you loud and clear, Vinny.
08:42Rocking Johnny's all shook up.
08:44But as the rum punch flow, you can limb below.
08:49Argh!
08:57Thousands of us plucky Brits have grabbed a suitcase and a dream.
09:01Absolute paradise.
09:03We've packed our bags full of wanderlust and sunscreen.
09:05I'd rather be skin in the sunshine than skin in the rain.
09:09And we've headed to the med for an expat life less ordinary.
09:13It's all fun in the sun.
09:15Here's to live in the dream in Spain.
09:17We're all planning on trading the tedium of the nine-to-five in the cold and wet.
09:22I think you have to now and again shake it up, even if you're shaking inside.
09:27And swapping it for the full-time toil in the baking temperatures of the costas.
09:32You wake up every day with the sunshine then,
09:34but you have to work twice as hard to make your money.
09:36A few work harder on the cost of El Sol than Lorna.
09:40Nice and spacious.
09:41You get a much better idea than you do on the photos, don't you?
09:45She's been busy selling plots on a brand new site for mobile homes.
09:49I like that Lorna.
09:51That's really nice, that grey.
09:53And Alan, you like it as well?
09:54Yes.
09:55Of course.
09:56Just not.
09:57Progress.
09:58And husband Steve's time is taken up by managing the community nearby.
10:04Florine.
10:04Yeah, that one.
10:06They're all grey, aren't they?
10:07Not quite fifty shades of, but all along the way.
10:10Same time.
10:12But they didn't move to Spain just to work, work, work.
10:15I am extremely looking forward to my day off for good behaviour.
10:19And we're going back to 2022, when the pair left their day jobs behind to visit a zoo and animal
10:25rescue centre.
10:26It's one of those days, it's just going to stay with you forever, isn't it?
10:29Oh, yeah.
10:31Talk about off the beaten track, but we're here.
10:33We made it.
10:34Oh, my goodness.
10:34Gideon.
10:35They've also got plans to party at a Spanish festival.
10:38But first, on the bucket list...
10:40I just can't wait to go cuddle a baby lion.
10:43...to each their own.
10:45It's been a dream of yours ever since we found out he was there.
10:47Yeah.
10:48For some reason, in the last six, seven years, just never got round to do it.
10:51Well, all you've done since we arrived in Spain is work.
10:53I'm going to take a very big handbag. They won't miss one cup if it goes missing.
10:57What was that you were saying about good behaviour?
11:00Come on, then.
11:00There you go.
11:01Yes.
11:02I'm looking outside today.
11:10So, what do you fancy?
11:11I fancy a tostada.
11:13A tostada, yeah.
11:15It's snack time in Torabieca.
11:17Hello, good morning.
11:19How are you doing?
11:20Hello.
11:20Thank you, thank you.
11:22Dos tostadas.
11:23Dos.
11:24Aton.
11:25Aton.
11:25No tomato.
11:27And dos.
11:27Coffee con leche.
11:28And two white coffees.
11:29Okay.
11:30But first, I will make you a magic trick.
11:33Do you want?
11:33Oh, yes.
11:34Come on.
11:35What's your lucky number between one and ten?
11:39You.
11:39Seven.
11:40Seven?
11:41Stop.
11:42Stop.
11:43Again.
11:44Stop.
11:45Good.
11:47Seven.
11:48Seven.
11:50Seven.
11:51Seven.
11:52And seven.
11:52No way.
11:53Coffee with free magic?
11:55Well, you've got to love Spain.
11:56Looking forward to seeing Darren and Amanda.
11:59Yeah, that'll be awesome.
12:00And today, Mike and Yvonne are helping a couple of new friends settle into Spanish life.
12:04Oh, hi.
12:05How are you?
12:06Are you all right?
12:07How are you doing?
12:08All right.
12:08How are you?
12:09Nice to see you again.
12:11So, what did you think to the video?
12:14I thought it was really good.
12:15People thought it was really interesting.
12:17Yes.
12:17Amanda and Darren recently did some filming with Mike and Yvonne about travelling to Spain
12:22with their dog, Charlie.
12:23We're here with Amanda and Darren and Charlie.
12:26Don't forget Charlie.
12:27And the quartet, well, the quintet with Charlie, hit it off.
12:31And the video was a hit, too.
12:32So, we're just thinking, because of those comments, maybe we could do a follow-up.
12:37All right.
12:37Yeah.
12:39Along the lines of the Charlie, the dog Charlie.
12:42Yes.
12:43And how you brought him down, where you put him in the car, stuff like that, you know.
12:47Right, okay.
12:47And how much it cost to bring him down.
12:50What the payments were on the ferry.
12:52And the fact that the car comes as a foot passenger, can they?
12:55No, you can't go as a foot passenger with a dog on a ferry.
12:59No, he always looks happy, doesn't he?
13:00He does look happy, yeah.
13:01He knows where he's coming, doesn't he?
13:03Mike, Mike and Yvonne, Amanda and Darren aren't residents,
13:06so live between the UK and the Costa Blanca.
13:09We bought our property in January this year.
13:12Yeah.
13:13So, it's still new to us.
13:14We've got loads of friends that are the same as us.
13:17They come for 90 days.
13:18Yeah, well, with us being sort of only doing it this year,
13:21and we're only having the two trips out,
13:23we really, you know, we haven't actually met that many people.
13:25We're still sort of, still finding our feet, but I'm sure...
13:28You will do it.
13:28I'm sure we will, yes.
13:30The long year here, you know, it's like us, isn't it?
13:32We've met loads, haven't we?
13:34Yeah.
13:34Each time we come, we'll make somebody new.
13:36Yeah, we do.
13:37Like yourselves, you know, you end up as friends.
13:39Yeah.
13:39Not living in Spain full-time can make it harder to settle in.
13:43How do you fancy pretend, then?
13:44Yeah, that sounds good, yeah.
13:46So, Mike and Yvonne have a plan to welcome them all.
13:49Is he any good at pretend?
13:51Oh, he might be better than us, cos we've never done it before.
13:55I can imagine we're going to throw the balls.
13:57And here you go, Jason.
13:58Here, maybe.
14:00Charlie, fetch.
14:01Come on, then.
14:02All right, OK.
14:03Come on, then, Charlie.
14:18This is what I think is a perfect bargain, and it's for Sue.
14:21It's perfect for Sue cos she likes meerkats.
14:26There's also a solar-powered light, a mummy meerkat and a baby there, and it just stands
14:32over there in the corner.
14:33And in the night time when it lights up, it looks pretty nice.
14:37Yeah.
14:38Very nice.
14:39I'm not telling you how much it cost, because Sue will know, but it was a bargain.
14:42Nice little present for me.
14:44Yeah.
14:49Oh, I loved it, cos I wasn't expecting it.
14:51He just goes, there you go, present for you.
14:54I opened up and I got my little meerkat.
14:56And a light as well, added bonus.
14:59Usually she talks to herself on the balcony.
15:01I can hear her, so there's something for her to talk to now.
15:03I've got some friends to talk to now.
15:11Hours of fun with that.
15:17How are you, mate? Good to see you.
15:20In Dekesa, the pressure's on performer, Rocking Johnny.
15:23Right, Johnny, well, I've spent the morning setting everything up.
15:26Great.
15:27So we're all ready to record.
15:29He'll get a whopping ten grand donation for Valencia.
15:32Can you hear me, Johnny?
15:33I can hear you loud and clear, Vinnie.
15:36Left my glasses at home, by the way.
15:38If he records a new song today and performs it flawlessly at tonight's fundraiser.
15:43Well, the moon shines bright every night when the stars up in the sky.
15:48When the stars up in the sky.
15:50I've paid for the studio time myself.
15:53I've paid for the studio time myself as a small contribution towards the fund.
15:56But if it generates 10,000 or more euros for the Valencia Fund, then I'm very happy to do that.
16:05Jolly has just four hours to record the song, a job that would normally take at least a day and
16:10a half.
16:11Well, the moon shines bright every night when the stars up in the sky.
16:18When the sun sets low, there's to go.
16:21I've got my words.
16:23But Johnny's lyrics are letting him down.
16:25Unfortunately, I would like to have my glasses, my reading glasses with me, but I've left them at home.
16:31So I'm going to be squinting.
16:34Never mind, Johnny.
16:35I heard Liam Gallagher's always forgetting his very vocals.
16:38When the sun sets low, you can hear them go.
16:42And I've got it wrong again.
16:44Oh dear, Johnny.
16:46When then I soon...
16:48Sorry, I have to go again.
16:50If you fluff the words tonight, it could cost you 10 grand.
16:54Why don't we listen to the whole song all the way through?
16:57Yeah.
16:57So you can get familiar with it.
16:59Okay.
16:59Deep breaths.
17:00And he's chilling in the shade.
17:03Keep calm and learn your lyrics.
17:05Yeah, a little bit of reverb on your vocal as well.
17:06Okay.
17:07Valencia might be 400 miles away, but Johnny was motivated to fundraise knowing how hard life is,
17:13after he experienced flooding in 2016.
17:16When we got up in the morning, that's when we noticed the garden was quite flooded.
17:23So for six weeks we had no water, we had no lifts.
17:27So we had to walk up and down four flights of stairs with buckets of water and young children.
17:35We'll remember how difficult it was, but we're aware that Valencia have it 500 times worse than we had it.
17:45So tonight's gig is all about raising much needed funds.
17:48But as the rum punch flow, you can limber low.
17:54And time is ticking to get that smash hit in the can.
17:57But as the sun punch flow, turning low, limber low to the calypso.
18:03One more time, please.
18:04Order here.
18:05Help.
18:06Yeah, if I could remember the words, it would be better.
18:08Yeah, you're not wrong, Johnny.
18:12That's great, Johnny.
18:13Do you want to come in and we'll have a listen to the takes?
18:15Yeah.
18:15There's just three hours till showtime.
18:17What I'm going to send you this afternoon is just the backing track for the event.
18:20OK.
18:21So I'm going to get this ready now.
18:23What's the deadline?
18:24What time do you need it by?
18:26Erm, between five and six, I suppose.
18:29No pressure then, Vinny.
18:30Once Vinny has done his magic, we'll hope to collect that €10,000 donation.
18:38Well, you best get learning them lyrics, Johnny.
18:43Oh, there's a...
18:45Ostrich.
18:46Ostrich.
18:50Living life on the wild side are Lorna and Steve.
18:54You can get my fingers anywhere near that beak.
18:57They're spectacular, but they're kind of scary.
19:00They got bored. It's going away, do you?
19:02It's a rare day off for the pair.
19:04Oh, heck. You ready to do crocodiles?
19:07And they're visiting one of the few zoos in Spain
19:10where you can get up close and personal with the residents.
19:13Yeah, these are big ones.
19:14Oh, my God. This is huge.
19:15Well, you can tell that one, isn't it?
19:16The last person that crossed and fell.
19:18He's got a big belly.
19:20We don't often get a chance to let our hair down.
19:22Oh, my goodness.
19:25Hello.
19:26If you come over here to retire, then it's a whole different ballgame.
19:28But if you come over here to work, then you really, really have to work.
19:32Oh, there's a baby one.
19:33Oh, my goodness, there's hundreds of baby ones.
19:35Oh, we can take them all now.
19:37Lorna and Steve like to support animals in need.
19:40This is a lima.
19:41It's a baby lima.
19:42It's one year old.
19:43His name is Mango.
19:45Hello.
19:45Hello, Mango.
19:46Okay, Mango.
19:47Okay, Mango.
19:48Ta-na.
19:50Having adopted two themselves.
19:53Roxy and Marnie were our kittens that we rescued from a stable in Tenerife.
19:58They were literally this big, weren't they?
20:01At Sicani.
20:02Our two girls.
20:04We had them.
20:06Got Marnie for 14, 15 years.
20:08And we miss them.
20:09We do.
20:09Well, perhaps today's close encounter with a rescued big cat will ease that a little and
20:15fulfil a lifelong dream.
20:18Bigger babies than we thought.
20:19Yeah, we've seen them.
20:20Outside.
20:21Yeah.
20:21And they are much bigger.
20:23I think we could well end up on the menu today, couldn't we?
20:26I'm hoping not.
20:27No.
20:28I have to say I'm more nervous than I thought.
20:30You've wanted to do this for years, haven't you?
20:32Oh, ever.
20:32Ever since we moved back to the mainland.
20:34Yeah.
20:37Lorna, it's time for that once in a lifetime experience.
20:42It's old.
20:43Oh my goodness.
20:45It's more nerve-wracking than I thought it were going to be.
20:48Just be grateful you've met after a feed.
20:51That's a bit bigger than our girls were.
20:52It's just like a kitten.
20:53Yeah.
20:54Just wants to play it.
20:55Oh my goodness.
20:59It's old.
21:00It's old.
21:01It's old.
21:02It's old.
21:02It's old.
21:02It's old.
21:04It's old.
21:05Look at the size of his paws.
21:08Oh my goodness.
21:11Up close and personal they've got huge paws, loads of teeth.
21:15Yeah, that was an awful lot more scary than I thought it was going to be.
21:19But it is still a lifelong dream achieved and ticks off the list.
21:24The fact I've actually touched a lion several times, tickled a lion and spoken to a lion face to face.
21:30Yeah.
21:31Made up.
21:32Absolutely made up.
21:33I did not expect to put two fingers into a lion's mouth and it just sucked on me hand.
21:40Amazing.
21:40Absolutely the best.
21:42I loved it.
21:42Absolutely loved it.
21:43Booking list definitely tick.
21:45More tick than a really tick thing.
21:47Yeah.
21:47Definitely.
21:47Do that then.
21:49You look like the cat that's got the cream, Lorna.
21:53Steady.
21:55Keep the experiences coming.
21:57How about a full on Spanish fiesta to follow the feline?
22:00I know just the spot.
22:04Coming up.
22:05Rocking Johnny needs to keep his cool.
22:08I'm frightened to death.
22:10And Mike and Yvonne take one for the team.
22:12Oh, that's a bit of winter bars of drinks, isn't it?
22:14Yeah, did we say winter bars of drinks?
22:15Thanks for changing the rules again.
22:29Money, tickets, passports.
22:31Back in Mahina, it's three weeks since Lorna and Steve ticked Petty a Lion off their bucket list.
22:37And they're still on a mission to work less and play more.
22:41Hello.
22:41Hello, how are you?
22:43Fine, thank you.
22:44Are you doing anything later?
22:45She's rallying a gang to join her and Steve at a local festival.
22:49Bit of a party.
22:51Excellent.
22:52She's even got two minibuses booked, but she's left the invites to the last minute.
22:56OK, that's one in the bag, yay.
22:58So it's a rush to get bums on seats.
23:01What are you doing tonight?
23:02Not a lot.
23:03Do you fancy coming?
23:04I've got a couple of minibuses organised to go down to the ferrier tonight.
23:07It's all the big float parade.
23:09And there's a bunch of us going.
23:10We can go down, we can have a drink, we can just see everything going on.
23:12Should be a bit of a giggle.
23:13You up for it?
23:14Today is the second day of a week-long festival that happens in every region, every village,
23:21everywhere, right across Spain, all around this time.
23:24And it's a whole celebration of Spain, really.
23:26What time?
23:27We'll meet at five.
23:29All right.
23:30Kate's in.
23:31But not long until the carriages depart, Lorna has a fair few seats to fill.
23:36No table dancing tonight, because I know what you're like.
23:39You've got to be a good boy.
23:40Well, it depends what music.
23:41If they're playing the music, there's nothing to me.
23:43Are you perchance free tonight?
23:46No.
23:46Yeah.
23:47I was asking you.
23:48No, Malina, I was asking you.
23:50She doesn't want me.
23:51Yeah, I care of you.
23:52Oh, I do want you though, all the time.
23:53Don't they?
23:54Sounds brilliant.
23:55Fabulous.
23:56Yeah.
23:56I'll see you later.
23:58Brilliant.
23:58Thanks very much.
23:59Take care.
24:00Cheers.
24:01Take care.
24:02Cheers.
24:02Bye-bye.
24:04Community canvassed.
24:05Quick, down to the rendezvous point.
24:07Hang on.
24:07Where is everyone?
24:08And the bus?
24:10We have one slight drama.
24:12In so much there's only one minibus here, so that's going to involve logistics of Don Fernando
24:17driving everybody, dumping them, then coming back and getting the rest of it.
24:20But it's fine.
24:21It wouldn't be Spain if there wasn't a drama of some description.
24:24And it adds a bit of excitement to the day.
24:28Fernando is the Spanish owner of the campsite community.
24:31But where is he?
24:32We've actually lost Don Fernando now.
24:34Who's supposed to be doing all the driving, but it's fine.
24:37Drama too.
24:37There will be three, because everything happens in threes, so...
24:41Oh dear.
24:42Hopefully he's not strayed too far.
24:44Any more for any more, Lorna?
24:46But we haven't actually got the bus here either.
24:48So it's kind of getting messier by the minute.
24:51But it'll be fine.
24:52I'm sure it'll be fine.
24:54This is so...
24:55This is just what happens, isn't it?
24:57Looks like it.
24:58With the clock ticking and the group gathering, Lorna's grand plans for the fiesta could be
25:03a big flat flop.
25:05No minibus.
25:06No Fernando.
25:08Where's he gone?
25:09Hmm.
25:10The house is on a postcard.
25:12I have no idea.
25:20Right, here we are then, Darren.
25:21This is it.
25:22Look at it.
25:22What do you think?
25:23It's lovely, isn't it?
25:25Things are about to get competitive.
25:27So we'll have this one, eh?
25:28In Torrevieca.
25:29Just feel the weight of them.
25:30They've gone now on them lads, haven't they?
25:32Oh.
25:33They're out of it.
25:35They're out of it.
25:35They're out of it.
25:35They're out of it.
25:36YouTubers Mike and Yvonne are welcoming Amanda, Darren and their dog Charlie to Spanish
25:41life with a game of, er, French bowls.
25:44Very continental.
25:45Heads or tails?
25:46Heads.
25:48Heads it is.
25:50No, first.
25:50Mike and Yvonne have been splitting their time between the UK and Spain for seven years.
25:56That's where we're both from.
25:57We get the best of both worlds because we've got a family.
26:00We've got our kids and six grandkids at home.
26:03So we like to go home and see them.
26:07The expert.
26:08Is that your chicken dance?
26:09And they've learnt to embrace the limited amount of time they can spend here.
26:15Darren's got three points.
26:17Yeah.
26:17Yay!
26:19It's great, actually, isn't it?
26:20Yeah.
26:20We look forward to both events coming and going.
26:23Oh, girls.
26:25We don't look at it now as a holiday home.
26:27We look at it as a second home.
26:29Because, you know, it just feels like home, doesn't it, now?
26:32Since Brexit, Brits are only allowed to stay in the EU for 90 days out of 180.
26:38Unless they have a visa, that is.
26:41Off with a jack.
26:42Come here.
26:43Yeah, it's just great to make friends with other 90 days because you learn the pitfalls.
26:47And the advantages of doing it.
26:50It has been really helpful, really.
26:52Yeah.
26:52You feel like you've got a bond because you've got something in common.
26:54Yeah.
26:55Oh.
26:57Oh, dearie me.
26:59Oh.
27:00Oh, that's a good one as well.
27:02Oh, yeah.
27:03Oh.
27:06Yay!
27:06I think they've got three points now.
27:09Three points?
27:10There's one thing, though, Mike.
27:11They have to buy the drinks.
27:12Oh.
27:13Winner buys the drinks, innit?
27:14Oh, yeah.
27:15Did they say winner buys the drinks?
27:15No.
27:16You're changing the rules again.
27:17Changing the rules again.
27:18I'm thinking, like, we're lost.
27:20And I said, I get the drinks in.
27:21Oh, yes.
27:21Oh, right, yeah.
27:22So, because I'm so tight, by way of thanks, we'd like to invite you back to ours for a
27:27nice, authentic Spanish chicken stew.
27:31Ooh.
27:31Yeah.
27:31That sounds lovely.
27:33Yeah, it does sound lovely.
27:34Aw, thank you.
27:34I'm going to make it.
27:35You can help me if you want.
27:37So, shall we crack on and get a bath, then?
27:40Yeah.
27:41Ooh, sounds great.
27:42Can we come?
27:51Hello, Karen.
27:52Lovely to see you.
27:54Andrew.
27:54In Dekesa Marina.
27:55I thought I might pop in and we might have a chat about the running order for tonight
27:59and check that everything's OK.
28:02Rocking Johnny's fundraising gig is due to start in an hour.
28:06How are you feeling?
28:07OK.
28:09And bar owner Karen is the host.
28:11How is your raffle organisation going?
28:14The raffle.
28:14People have been so generous.
28:16I mean, we've got over 30 raffle prizes.
28:19Wow.
28:19Within a week, it's like it's happening.
28:21So, it was so quick.
28:22We didn't have a lot of time to sit down, discuss, think about it.
28:27We just got on with it and done it.
28:29And today's the day that we're actually going to hopefully get the benefit of it for Valencia.
28:35And how many people are we expecting?
28:38I think probably about 200.
28:39Wow!
28:41Oh, I've got every member of staff working tonight, so...
28:44These four people.
28:45Yeah.
28:46Oh, it's absolutely devastating.
28:48So sad.
28:49We'll raise as much money as we can.
28:51Make their lives a bit more comfortable.
28:53Yeah.
28:53Or as comfortable as we can.
28:55Yeah.
28:56Are you ready to...
28:57Am I ready to rock and roll?
28:59Yeah.
29:00Yeah, I'm excited.
29:01Yeah.
29:01Of course.
29:02I always love to perform.
29:03Maybe so.
29:04But your performance needs to be flawless for that 10 grand.
29:07You know when you're going to be performing.
29:09We're going to be performing here?
29:11Yeah.
29:11OK.
29:12We normally put the raffle bar.
29:13And we'll be here and looking out to the crowd.
29:16Yeah.
29:17Dance floor.
29:18Everyone will be dancing.
29:20That's what we want.
29:21Only if you remember your words, Johnny.
29:23It's just been full on for a week, so...
29:25Yeah, yeah.
29:25You've got to do it.
29:26We'll sleep well tomorrow.
29:28Yeah.
29:29Come tomorrow.
29:30Yeah.
29:31Day off.
29:32Yeah.
29:33But today, the pressure is on Johnny.
29:35It's amazing.
29:36Well done.
29:38You've done a great job.
29:38The event is gaining momentum.
29:42I'm absolutely astonished and gobsmacked at just how generous people have been in the area.
29:49I think we've got about 400 euros so far, and the event's not even started yet.
29:54So, it just sort of...
29:57It seems to have got bigger and bigger as the week's gone on.
30:01Johnny's on stage in half an hour, and he's got to remember his lyrics.
30:05Mwah.
30:06Mwah.
30:06Yeah.
30:07I'm more than this.
30:08Me too.
30:10I'm frightened to death.
30:12No wonder, Johnny.
30:13There's 10 grand riding on this performance.
30:16Testing, testing.
30:17One, two.
30:18It's getting busy.
30:20It's getting very warm.
30:21Even just setting up the equipment, I'm starting to perspire.
30:26And to add to the pressure, his backing track for the new song still hasn't arrived from Vinny at the
30:31studio.
30:31OK, we're all good to go.
30:33Don't stop believing, Rockin' Johnny.
30:42There's plenty to keep pretty much anyone entertained on the costas, and it's not just all sun, sand and sangria.
30:49For the kids would probably be the water park theme parks.
30:52I've heard that there's a safari, so we might go to the zoo.
30:54We normally do the boat to Calpe, from Calpe to Benidorm.
30:58That's always beautiful.
30:58We're going Puffin Island.
31:00I mean, that is going to be a major day trip.
31:02I can't wait for that.
31:03I would love to go to Benidorm Palace.
31:05Never been.
31:06Just enjoy yourself.
31:08You've got the sunshine, you've got the sea, you've got the beach.
31:10There's just an amazing amount of things to do in Spain.
31:14Oh, it's just wonderful.
31:15Why would you want to go anywhere else?
31:17Of course.
31:18It's a good point, and you make it well.
31:21Back in Mahina...
31:25Who's just been on a jolly? Where's the beer at?
31:27Yeah, we've actually got no minibus and no Fernando at the moment, but it will be fine.
31:33Lorna's plan to work less and enjoy life more is flailing.
31:37Her group trip to the village festival is falling apart.
31:41We've got small trauma. We can't find a minibus and we can't find Fernando.
31:45Oh, that's all right. We'll just get a drink.
31:48And we'll prepare.
31:50We'll never own it.
31:52Meanwhile, Lorna's husband, Steve, is trying to locate Fernando,
31:56who's agreed to drive them over.
31:59Hopefully he's not asleep.
32:01I've sent him a message.
32:04It's the end of siesta, so maybe he's had a siesta.
32:07But he needs to be here, like...
32:10Well, now would be really rather handy,
32:12because we need to get going 15 minutes ago.
32:17Julie's going to have to walk. She can't walk in those hills.
32:20I've suggested walking, but they're really not keen.
32:22But then it's 41 degrees, so, yeah, I get that.
32:26But just as tempers are about to boil over...
32:29Fernando!
32:31Salvation! Fernando! Just pull up here, mate.
32:42He's certainly perky after his kip.
32:45Right, vámonos. Let's get this party started.
32:49OK, vámonos. Here we go.
32:54Oh, you could have walked into town by now.
32:57Oh, where's the party?
33:03It's a little weird, because nobody's here.
33:06Which is a little disconcerting.
33:08Drama!
33:09But we're not quite sure.
33:11It just starts at 6.30, but it could be Spanish 6.30,
33:14so we're not entirely sure what time it's going to start.
33:16And, yeah, that's... It's fine.
33:18Everyone's just in a bar, drinking.
33:21And we might do our own parade if they don't hurry up them.
33:24We'll just have to do something on our own, but, yeah.
33:26It's a huge disappointment for Lorna,
33:29who just wants to show her friends a good time
33:31and make the most of her day off.
33:33In ten minutes' time, you won't be able to move in this place,
33:36because they'll be full of residents.
33:38Just not right now.
33:39It's just a bit...
33:41I don't think I've ever seen the squares that empty.
33:43Are you sure you're in the right square?
33:47That sounds like the start of your button.
33:50Ready, steady, party!
33:52Are they on the move?
33:55I can see a tractor!
33:57I can see a tractor.
33:58It's a whole move.
34:00And nothing says Fiesta like a tractor.
34:03Always flashing.
34:05Not flashing.
34:07Just wheel, wheel.
34:12It's a parade, I told you!
34:15Finally, the gods are shining down on you, Lorna.
34:18Oh, I spoke too soon.
34:21It's raining!
34:23You couldn't make this up.
34:25Come to Spain, they said.
34:27Lovely, they did.
34:29I'd say don't let it rain on your parade, but it is.
34:34Although your mates look like they're having fun, come rain or shine.
34:39It was really good.
34:40It was really cute.
34:40Lots of little trains with loads of little kids on.
34:43I think everyone had a really good time.
34:44It's a nice atmosphere.
34:45It was good.
34:46And it's all thanks to you going the extra mile for your mates.
34:51Yay, I need a drink now.
34:55Never mind, Lorna.
34:56Back to work tomorrow, eh?
35:03Coming up...
35:04Everybody okay?
35:05Ready to party?
35:07All eyes are on Rocking Johnny for that ten grand.
35:10Coming to a very difficult part of the evening for me.
35:13And Mike and Yvonne get creative.
35:14We're going to film Yvonne's episode number three.
35:30Hi, Vinnie.
35:31Just to let you know, I've received the backing track.
35:34Phew.
35:36Back in Dekesa.
35:37Thanks again for your hard work.
35:39Bye.
35:39Bye-bye.
35:40Now Rocking Johnny needs to remember the words for his new song.
35:44And hopefully the crowd will enjoy it.
35:46No pressure.
35:47200 fans have turned out to hear it at Johnny's Valencian Flood fundraiser.
35:52Ladies and gentlemen.
35:55There's ten grand riding on this.
35:56An anonymous fan will donate the money if Johnny delivers on his new song.
36:01Thanks very much for coming along and supporting such a great cause.
36:05Everybody okay?
36:06Ready to party?
36:08But Johnny's had no time to rehearse.
36:11Everything could go wrong.
36:12I could forget the words.
36:14Now we are here to raise some funds for the people of Valencia.
36:17We know what it's like to be hit with floods because it happened here in 2016.
36:23It's not unknown for us to have power cuts during this sort of weather.
36:27So lots of things can go wrong.
36:29They've lost lives.
36:31They've had tragedies and they've got some cleaning up to do.
36:35So we're hoping to raise some funds.
36:37It's time, Johnny.
36:40Okay.
36:41We're coming to a very difficult part of the evening for me because I was challenged to write a song,
36:49record the song in the studio and perform it tonight.
36:53And in return, if I managed that, he would pay to the charity 10,000 euros.
37:08So I'm going to try and remember the words.
37:11Come on, Johnny.
37:12We're coming here for the части of Valencia.
37:29Welcome to, Johnny.
37:29올 me supernatural.
37:34I'll follow you.
37:36Bye.
37:40Bye.
37:41Bye.
37:42Bye.
37:51Okay, that's a little fun with it.
37:57Thank you so very much.
38:00First time live, and we did it in the studio today and recorded it,
38:04so watch out for the €10,000 contribution.
38:09Go, Johnny, go. What a legend.
38:12It's exceeded my expectations.
38:14Everyone has just come out for the cause and just smashed it.
38:20It's been fantastic.
38:22Vikesa has come out in force.
38:25Everybody seems to be enjoying themselves.
38:27When people enjoy themselves, they get a bit freer with the donations,
38:31so that's all to the good.
38:32It's a wonderful event, a wonderful cause,
38:34and it couldn't be better represented than by a guy like Rockin' Johnny.
38:40Well, I'm impressed you remembered the words.
38:42I'm proud of my community who have really pulled together.
38:46They've really been so generous with their offers for the raffle
38:51and the generous money that they've donated
38:56and for turning up and supporting the event.
39:00So I'm proud of my community more than me.
39:03And so you should be.
39:05Keep rocking, Johnny.
39:25Welcome to our little house, our little Casa Valentine.
39:30It's tea time.
39:31You've probably seen it on camera, haven't you?
39:33Yes, definitely have, yes.
39:34Pits and pieces on our videos.
39:37In torrevieca.
39:38I'm going to do some cooking now,
39:39so if you want to come through, you can go upstairs and make yourselves at home.
39:42And Yorkshire couple Mike and Yvonne are entertaining.
39:45Right, this is our solarium.
39:47Oh, it's spacious, isn't it?
39:49Quite big.
39:49Still got a bit of sun.
39:50Yes.
39:51Going down a bit now, but you can make yourselves at home.
39:54Well, I don't mind if I do.
39:55The YouTubers are helping new friends, Amanda and Darren, settle into expat life.
40:00We're going to film Yvonne's episode number three.
40:04And cooking tea for their new mate is an opportunity to create content.
40:09So I've got a wide-angle lens on so we can get it all in.
40:12We do give a lot of good advice about saving money.
40:15We do have one or two tips, don't we?
40:18The rest of the thing is just Yvonne doing her stuff.
40:23You've chopped her head off there, Mike.
40:24Well, we've just had a new thing, a new series of videos about Yvonne's kitchen,
40:30making Spanish dishes.
40:32Yeah, the idea is to create interest in Spanish cuisine.
40:36I've just put the chicken in.
40:38We started following them because we wanted some information, really,
40:42about the area, and Mike and Yvonne's channel did do that.
40:46And tonight they're getting a free meal out of it as well.
40:49Yvonne's Spanish chicken stew.
40:51Got some sweet paprika and some smoked paprika.
40:54This is one of the key ingredients, I think, that I've found
40:58that goes into Spanish dishes.
41:00How are you up, you two? Are you all right?
41:02Yeah, we're fine, thanks, yeah.
41:03I've just been admiring the lovely sunset over there.
41:05Yeah, it's fantastic, isn't it? Look at that.
41:06It is, it's beautiful.
41:07Can you smell it?
41:08It smells beautiful as well, yes.
41:11It's wafting up, isn't it?
41:12It is, it's lovely, yes.
41:13So, do you want to come down?
41:14Yeah, sure.
41:15And we will prepare ourselves for Yvonne's feast.
41:18Yeah.
41:19It's amazing how it's brought us together, actually, the YouTube channel.
41:22And we've got a lot in common, haven't we?
41:23You know, we're both 90-dayers.
41:25We've both got properties in Spain.
41:27We've got very similar interests.
41:31This is the money shop coming up now.
41:33A big reveal.
41:34Charlie's nose is going.
41:37Oh, look at that.
41:38Oh, it smells, it smells lovely.
41:40You can't go on until we've finished it all.
41:43There's a challenge.
41:44Mmm.
41:45Hopefully this will be the first of many meals together for the new friends.
41:48So, what makes this stew Spanish?
41:52A lot of the Spanish recipes have olives in them.
41:56All right.
41:57And paprika is a key ingredient.
42:00Yes.
42:00Lots of paprika.
42:02Well, it's been great to see you both today.
42:04And thanks a lot for helping us out.
42:05Thanks for helping us with the video.
42:07And this is a way of saying thank you for doing that.
42:11And we'll forgive you for being us at Patank.
42:14But, yeah, we should do it more often.
42:16Cheers.
42:17Cheers.
42:17Thanks for your help.
42:20Mmm.
42:21Very nice.
42:23It is.

42:25Compliments to the chef.
42:29Next time on The Costas.
42:32Should have stayed at home.
42:33Can Andy stand the heat in his kitchen?
42:35There's a lot of doing.
42:36It's always a subtle last minute.
42:38Susanna's flamenco is threatened when storm clouds gather.
42:41It takes a lot of time to make costumes and I don't want them ruined.
42:43And Donkey Whisperer come drag queen Colin puts on a hair-raising show.
43:05And we'll see you next time on The Costas.
43:05And we'll see you next time on The Costas.
