00:52So, what we're going to show you guys today is actually we have the game running on this iPad here.

01:02But you guys will get a chance to see that it is basically the same game that we've been showing

01:08And what we're going to do is show you the kind of the user interface changes a little bit because
01:12it's a touch surface instead of mouse.
01:15But basically the same game.

01:22And a lot of people have said they wanted to see us play out as Harmony.
01:26So, we'll go ahead and we'll choose that for this time around.

01:57So, I have been playing a couple different styles lately.
02:01One of them is making a great big juggernaut ship.
02:04Oh, that's a great mechanic.
02:05I love that one.
02:05I do too.
02:05Great strategy, I mean.
02:07And then, recently, I started to play with a bunch of torpedo vessels too, which is also
02:11a lot of fun.
02:12But it looks like we have a couple of good choices to start with.
02:15Over here, Sextantus 4-3 has armor.
02:18So, if we were going with the juggernaut strategy, that would be an approach.
02:22We have engines.
02:23Engines are good for everybody.
02:24So, easily upgrading them is fantastic.
02:27So, one thing you'll also notice, just from moving around here, if I can take control
02:30for a sec, is we have, what, four Earth-like planets around here?
02:35Yes.
02:35Which means that, you know, assuming that we, you know, keep close to home, we're going
02:39to be getting a lot of food this game.
02:41Right.
02:42So, we're going to want to probably focus on, you know, using that food to upgrade our
02:46planets to then upgrade our ships.
02:48Yep.
02:48Because ships are always very important.
02:50Yep.
02:50So, if we look around, like, we have energy.
02:53Actually, I just noticed something.
02:54Down here at Serpentis 7-5, they have politicos.
02:57Ooh.
02:58Which means they're already an orange mission.
03:00Right.
03:01So, we would get two influence for going there straight away.
03:04I see what you're doing.
03:05We'd get one for the first, being the first visitor to them.
03:08But then the politicos give you the extra shift as well, too.
03:12So, actually, if we are able to succeed at this mission, we get our first planet.
03:16I like that idea.
03:17100% off the bat.
03:18So, should we head over there and see what the deal is?

03:24Just remember to upgrade your ships once you get there.

03:30So, this is a checkpoint scenario.
03:34This is you have to get to three stations and make sure that at no point do you lose control
03:41of all three of those stations.
03:42So, we need to be careful.
03:45This is usually a pretty tough mission on hard.
03:48It's easy to get swarmed, especially if the enemy brought a lot of fighter swarms.
03:52Let's take a look.
03:53And they have a ton of suicide drones.
03:55Yes.
03:56Now, the good part is these are early game suicide drones.
03:58There's only a couple.
04:00Like, the fourth one there has a couple of shield, a couple of armor, and a couple of lasers.
04:06Yeah, some good hit.
04:07So, we have a tough incoming enemy.
04:11Well, he'll be there at the start.
04:12And then another baddie coming in on turn five as well, too.
04:16Say at 31%, I think that's too conservative.
04:18Let's go ahead and we will set up our starships.
04:21So, we've got cannon and sensors.
04:25I don't know that we need the sensors for this mission.
04:28So, we'll go ahead and sell these out.
04:31Okay.
04:31Now, we've got one with lasers and one with cannon.
04:34Do you want to specialize these or do you want to go for a common configuration?
04:37I usually specialize just because then I know I can put all my money on that ship to either cannons
04:43or lasers and know I'm getting the most bang for the buck.
04:45Okay.
04:46Pun intended.
04:47Yeah.
04:47Oh, well, here's the thing.
04:49If you look, we've got upgrades on lasers and stealth.
04:54That's true.
04:55So, maybe what we could do is we could just buy our laser out here, sell off the cannon, and
05:02go for a two-laser configuration.
05:04Sure.
05:05These are suicide drones.
05:06We're going to want to probably take them out.
05:09It helps if you tap the right option.
05:12I'd probably also up the thrusters a little bit just to get some movement because especially for a mission like
05:17this, being mobile is important.
05:18Getting to the spots.
05:20Yep.
05:20And we could do shields or armor on one ship.
05:24We should probably pick one and give it a little bit more oomph.
05:28Starting, we're going to be outnumbered four to two, so probably just the default, especially on hard difficulty.
05:34Actually, before we do that, if we save this out and go see what the bonus is around the planet.

05:41Because if it's going to be bad for shields, maybe it's worth getting armor.
05:45Looks like it's a lot of jump gates.

05:51We're only going to be able to grab shields on one ship.

08:21And usually, I find the way that I end up winning this mission is kind of to get at least
08:28one control point unambiguously under your control.
08:31And then, aggressively defend that.
08:33And as people come back towards you, you can kind of pick them off.
08:36And then, at the end of it, when it's all clear, chase them.
08:39Now, if they come one at a time, that'll be good.
08:41If they end up bringing, like, two or three of their groups, especially the ones that are going to come
08:46later in turns, that's going to be a little harder to do on hard.
08:50So, it may be that we want to take the first one and then start making a mad dash for
08:54the second, or at least get behind some ships to do some damage.

15:54if we head to the right most, if we go there, then we get the advantage of two asteroid fields
15:59worth of cover.

20:22We'll be able to use our science for something else that might be interesting to us.

20:31You want to do Xeno materials or do you want to do Ion drives?
20:34So I'm big on upping the Ion drives just because I know mobility is really important.
20:40Getting behind people, you know, getting back into cover, things like that.
21:12But that's the type of gameplay I play.
21:15So if we do build it, it increases the yield for everything, including our food yield.

21:21Gives us more potentially next turn.

21:50They're all called the Galatian something at this point.
21:53But what it really is is it's hiding what the mission is.
21:55So we can't just go, oh, I know that that's a suicide drone mission.

22:03And so it's like trying to figure out which one to go to.
22:07You start balancing what's the population?
22:10What's the bonus you're going to get?

22:21Do we want to sell it at the market?
22:23I do think we want to attempt at least the Galatian experiment at Sextantus 43.

26:43The other thing we could do is potentially build a biofuel plant on one of these planets.
26:50I'm usually the type of person who will put the aquifer on the food planets.
26:55The biofuel on the energy planets.
26:57That kind of stuff.

26:58Well, let's take a look around.
27:00We have a lot of food planets.

27:03And the galaxy is extending out from here.
27:06And I don't see any volcanic worlds that we'd be able to exploit for the energy near us.
27:12So we're going to have to kind of roll our own energy off these worlds themselves.
27:17I know we're regenerating our hit points because we're a harmony faction.
27:23But I still think it's probably worthwhile to throw the biofuel plant on Serpentis.
27:29I think that'll work.
27:29Now, another thing that I usually do, which we're not going to do here and I'll explain why.
27:33But I also usually try to do warp nexuses.
27:35So I can keep everything in my network.
27:37But if you look at the planets we have, we have our home world that doesn't come with a bonus
27:41besides being just awesome.
27:42Our home world.

27:43And then we have a Politicos, which is only good for when you do a mission on it, which we've
27:47finished.
27:48Right.
27:48So there's no reason to have to try to keep those into some warp nexus network except for movement.
27:53Well, the planets that we would want to put into a warp nexus network would be Tari 37 because it's
27:58got structure, which makes it easy to build things with metals.

28:03If we had the repair planet, armor, these bonuses mean those modules are cheaper to purchase there.
28:09So we'll stock up on some cheap armor plating next turn.

29:44I do notice Quantum Suppression and Thermal Compression are a little bit cheaper.
29:49I do like field theory, though, because the shields regenerate every turn, and that reduces your overall damage.

34:09Blaze planets produce double the amount of energy as normal planets.
34:14And they kind of become the engines of your Starfleet repair.
34:19So that's something we need to look at.

34:26I guess the conservative option is to end the turn now.
34:29Guarantee the Tori 37 comes into the Federation.
34:32Rather than push on to Surprise Package, which I know for a fact is a, like, you have to,
34:38there's a target starship you're trying to destroy.
34:40And it's protected by a Marauder fleet.
34:42Which is pretty strong.
34:43Which is pretty tough.
34:43Especially on hard.
34:44Yeah.
34:45And that would be a little bit iffy.
34:47We'd end up down a net loss of energy, which we would have a hard time making up because
34:53we're a little bit energy poor in this part of the galaxy.
34:57So let's go ahead and we will look at what we can build here.

35:01This planet, these guys, oh, these, structure means they extract minerals more effectively
35:07rather than build resources.
35:09So we would here, since they're already researching, they're already better at getting it.
35:14We can go ahead and build the auto plant and it would be a lot more effective in this world.
35:22And then we would start plunking down some cities, making some planets better.
35:26Let's go ahead and we'll go ahead and build a city on Tauri because we know we're going
35:31to be back here at some point in the future.
35:32And we'll put one on Serpentis because that is our strategic energy hub, as it were.
35:40And I think that would be the end of our turn.
35:43So what do we, okay, so Sextantus.

35:48We'd get that in, but again, we'd be blocked in by...
35:51So here's the thing.
35:53If we take Sextantus, we're going to be in worse situation with Kavitha, who's already
35:58unhappy with us because we are blocking borders with her.

36:07If we end over here at Tauri, we have a metals rich planet that's guaranteed to come into
36:13our federation.
36:13I think that's a little bit, on hard difficulty, just kind of dialing back the James T. Kirk

37:01How much time does a playthrough take on average?
37:04Well, it matters if you're talking as much as we do.

37:13I mean, it can go anywhere from a few hours to, I think I had one go 15 hours of,
37:21I mean,
37:21I had to stop and start a whole bunch of times because I'm working.
37:24But yeah, it took a while.
37:26I think my hard Epic Galaxy took 20 plus turns to do.
37:31That's kind of like the upper limit.
37:33If you do an easy game on a small Galaxy, like a couple hours tops.
37:38It's pretty cool.
37:39It's pretty fast.
37:41Are the hexes toggleable like in Civ?
37:44No.
37:45It's really important to understanding kind of how things work.
37:50It's part of the gameplay for that.
37:52And the final question.
37:54Any nukes?
37:56Well, we don't have Gandhi, so there's no reason to have the nukes, right?
38:00If you fully upgrade torpedoes with thermal compression and you take torpedo booster wonder
38:06and the stealth torpedoes wonder, then you build like six ships, each with three torpedoes
38:12and you like salvo them across the map.
38:14It's more fun than nukes.
38:15It is.
38:16So what happens is you don't increase the blast radius, but everything that gets caught in
38:20that like one hex blast radius around it just goes away.
38:23And the AI is really good at ducking out of the way of torpedoes.
38:27It can see.
38:27And on hard difficulties, I believe it remembers what hex and what direction the torpedo originated
38:34in.
38:34That could be.
38:35I'm not so up on how the AI works besides it kills me.
38:38So yeah, he's bad.
38:43So the AI will kind of remember where it goes, but it can't keep track of the stealthed ones.
38:47And so it will readily walk into it.
38:49And so what happens is sometimes you'll see the AI like shoot past a torpedo that knows
38:53it's going to explode on the next turn.
38:55But if you're firing in depth, then what happens is, you know, there'll be one right
38:59behind it and the AI will run into that.
39:01And it's sort of like if anyone remembers the really old game of Missile Command, you launch
39:05a torpedo, it explodes and everything around it just starts blowing up.
39:09It's a lot of fun.
39:09It is pretty cool, actually.
39:11So no nukes, but kind of nukes if you're playing it the right way.
