00:00Welcome back! It's 2024 and Asprite finally has tile map system so you no
00:05longer have to use pixel edit or any other software you can use Asprite for
00:09everything. The way you create tile maps in Asprite is you have to create a new
00:13layer you can right click here go to new and the new tile map layer and you have
00:19to specify the grid width and height just leave it at 16 by 16 for now and
00:24click OK and here on the left side you will notice two palettes color palette
00:28and tile palette depending on which one you have selected you can notice here
00:33on the bottom that this space below the color picker tool changes as well because
00:38it's basically which colors you are using or which tiles you are using to draw them
00:43on this entire canvas if you want to see where exactly are your tiles press
00:47ctrl G and you will see this tile grid but make sure that here in the view grid
00:52grid settings you can specify the same width and height as your tile map ok
00:57otherwise they won't overlap there are three different modes for drawing tiles
01:01here on the top left side it is manual and if you select this one it will say
01:06modify existing tiles and don't create new tiles automatically and this rule works
01:12only if you have tiles already if you don't have any tile it will just create
01:16new tiles ok so don't be confused but if you already have some tiles if I now try to
01:22draw on this tile notice that here on the left it will only update this specific tile
01:27only it will not create new ones even if I try to draw outside it will not allow me so
01:33this rule changes tiles which are already existing and if there are none it will
01:38create new tiles going to the second option this one says modify and reuse
01:43existing tiles create delete tiles if needed slash possible this means if you already have
01:50a tile like this then it will only modify it as you can see here but if there is no
01:59tiles
01:59whatsoever it will create new tiles as you can see here on the left and the last option is always
02:05create new tiles automatically and don't modify existing ones so this last option will always
02:11create new tiles so even if I create couple of new tiles for every time I click and change a
02:16tile
02:16it will keep on creating new tiles this is a great way to create variation tiles if needed but generally
02:22speaking most of the times you'll be using the first and second option so now I will use the second
02:28option to quickly create a simple tile set we will use 3x3 grid I will draw some grass and it
02:35will be
02:36positioned in the middle and around it I will place just on water I will select these tiles and
02:41use the paint bucket tool to fill in the area and this is it quite simple and very quick to
02:46do now
02:47how do we actually draw from this specific point here on the left side you have to select left click
02:54and select the tile palette now instead of using colors we will be using tiles you can use the color
03:01picker tool by holding alt left clicking on the tile which you want to draw and now you can draw
03:06this
03:06tile you can select another one and you can keep drawing it and so on as you can see this
03:12is a very
03:12quick and easy way to create tile map a huge levels just by using a small tile set as far
03:19as how to draw
03:20tiles and details and all that we will get to that later in the course but if you get stuck
03:25on using the
03:25feature itself just go back to this video re-watch it and you'll be good to go
