00:04Welcome back to AXS, I'm Nathan, I'm here with Rob.
00:06Hello.
00:07Rob, we tried to recreate E3, I'm really tired, I haven't shaved for ages.
00:11It's really authentic, isn't it?
00:13And we've got the mics.
00:14Exactly, we've got a light that's slightly too strong, everything's ready.
00:18So what we wanted to do was tell you about, you, about Uncharted 4.
00:22Rob and I saw a bit of Uncharted 4 that you didn't.
00:24Basically, at the conference and on the internet, they showed you this.
00:28I know, I know!
00:30Oh, Nate!
00:32Nate!
00:33Here, take the wheel!
00:34What?
00:34Get me out of your goddamn mind!
00:36Yep, probably!
00:39Oh, shit!
00:40Yes!
00:43Oh, crap, crap, crap!
00:44Which was amazing.
00:45But then afterwards...
00:47Yeah, in the conference, everyone was like, oh my god, that looks incredible.
00:50Big cliffhanger.
00:50But then we saw what happened after.
00:52We got to go into a small room.
00:54The cliffhanger.
00:55Yeah, so he basically, well, let's just describe it.
00:57Well, we've got five things we wanted to kind of tell you about.
01:00Yes.
01:00But it kind of carries on immediately after that.
01:03So he crashes into that kind of thing next to the bridge.
01:06And then he gets...
01:07Well, he's still hanging on.
01:08Of course, he doesn't let go.
01:09Onto the rope.
01:10Yeah, he's holding on for ages.
01:11And then he kind of, the bridge ends and the first thing we wanted to mention was mud.
01:18Yeah, because Uncharted's done really well with its tech in previous games.
01:24It's had amazing water, it's had amazing fire, sand and snow.
01:29Yeah, yeah, true.
01:29And now it's got mud.
01:31The next one is mud, the next elemental effect.
01:33The best mud I've ever seen.
01:34And it's lucky the mud's there because otherwise Drake would have no skin.
01:38Because he's being dragged along on the floor by this jeep through this mud.
01:44And it's puddling and it's congealing and it's slopping about all over the place.
01:49And he's sliding about all over it.
01:50And it's accumulating on his body in real time.
01:53His clothes get wet and heavy and thick.
01:56And it's gloopy and shiny.
01:58Oh my God.
01:59Action-wise, just to try and imagine the scene for everybody who obviously hasn't been able to see it.
02:04It is a lot, it's a cool out really to Indiana Jones.
02:07And when he is in that kind of truck chase in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
02:13Where he has to pull himself along on a rope behind a truck similar to this.
02:18But he's doing it on a road.
02:19Drake's doing it in amazing mud.
02:22So that's number one.
02:23Number two, I'm going to look down at my list.
02:25Number two is just, well the whole scene.
02:27But we've just said the outrageous action.
02:29Because not only is he holding a rope, being dragged through the mud.
02:34But then he like, we basically started laughing.
02:36You kind of just go, okay, Drake's back.
02:38He just, he like pulls out his gun and starts shooting people while he's being dragged through the mud.
02:42You are shooting people on bikes.
02:44There are bikes coming along.
02:45There are other people on Jeeps.
02:47Escavates.
02:47And you're just looking out the side.
02:49One hand on the rope.
02:50One hand on the gun.
02:51Bang, bang.
02:52And then as you stop shooting, he's like pulling himself a bit further forward.
02:55My favourite bit was when he got to the stage where he could stand up and he was almost like
02:59water skiing on the mud behind the jeep.
03:02While shooting.
03:04And you kind of just go, unbelievable.
03:06It's weird, isn't it?
03:07Like you played, obviously played loads of The Last of Us.
03:10And you kind of go, this reminds me a bit of Uncharted.
03:13And then when Uncharted comes back, you just kind of go, there's nothing like Uncharted.
03:16This is unbelievable.
03:17And then the next moment that happened is our number three, which we have, we've gone modestly.
03:24We've said it's the best car chase that's ever been in any game.
03:28That's number three.
03:30And it was.
03:31Because what happened, as soon as he started shooting, he shot the bike like twice.
03:36And the bike just flipping exploded.
03:38Yeah, he shot the petrol tank of the bike.
03:40Yeah, he was aiming specific to that.
03:41And it just went nuts.
03:42The guy flew off it, and he managed to clamber into the back of the truck that's been dragging him
03:48on along with his time.
03:49It reminded me, because obviously when we were watching it, it feels, like I said, it feels like you're back
03:53in just Uncharted, it's happening again.
03:55And there are scenes like this.
03:56There was the car chase.
03:58I think there might be one in two when they're getting to the train.
04:01There's another one as well, where he's leaping between, like, trucks.
04:06Yeah, and this one is like that, but just more.
04:10Just like, it's incredible.
04:12I'm trying to think of, like, specific action beats that really kind of maybe, like, people were jumping in, and
04:18it was showing off, like, the new melee mechanics.
04:20Like, he was pulling people out of the trucks.
04:22As people were kind of, as soon as they got into the truck with him, he was smashing them up.
04:26And he was, like, his brother kind of joins in the chase with him.
04:30And his brother's on a bike.
04:31Yeah, well, Sam, isn't it?
04:33He's out in front, and they're chasing him.
04:36And you're kind of trying to get to Sam through the people that are chasing him.
04:40And just the sound of it as well.
04:42The bikes just going, whizzing past, and just the sound of them just going, and the gun sounds were just
04:48all over the place.
04:49It was insane.
04:50It's like, I mean, we've seen all those things that we just mentioned in the Uncharted series, and this is
04:55better.
04:55This is, you're going to want to, you know, you're going to want to, you know, almost sad that I've
04:59seen it before I get to play it.
05:00Yeah, I felt that as well.
05:01You guys are privileged in that way.
05:03The first time you see it, you'll be playing it, and it will blow you away.
05:08Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
05:09And then not just incredible, like, high-stakes action.
05:13Again, like the thing that Naughty Dog do so well, in the middle of all this, like a change of
05:19pace.
05:19So this is number four.
05:20Yes, moving on to number four.
05:22The change of pace.
05:23The change of pace.
05:24Which was, I can't even remember how they got there, but basically the Jeep that he's on rolls or is
05:30struck by something, and it ends up on his back anyway.
05:34And then we kind of fade to black, right?
05:36And then you kind of want to describe what happens.
05:38Yeah, we think, I thought the demo had ended at this point.
05:40Yeah.
05:40But it hadn't, and we, Drake is upside down inside the wreckage of the truck.
05:47The unsurvivable wreckage.
05:49Yeah, and it starts to ignite very slowly, like certain bits of it start to catch on fire.
05:55And the fire tech was insane as well.
05:58Absolutely mad.
05:59It was like an oven just slowly turning on.
06:01It's really cramped camera, isn't it?
06:03Like inside, so you're basically, his head is like at the end.
06:08Yeah.
06:08And he's like, he's waking up, so the whole thing is coming to life, like in this tiny, cramped little
06:13space.
06:13Everything's quiet.
06:14The outside world is just gone for a second.
06:16A tiny, a huge, expansive action set piece condensed into this tiny, very tense, hot, cramped frame.
06:25And just watching it, as soon as the fire starts up, you kind of just start, you know.
06:30Get out.
06:31And again, the series has done this before.
06:32Like, I guess the train crash in number two was like a big one when you kind of, when you
06:37start climbing up there.
06:38But yeah, you just kind of like, just get out.
06:40Hit something.
06:41Move.
06:41And then he does, he like smashes through the door, and then again, like immediately into the action, just shoots
06:47three people.
06:48He doesn't just shoot three people, he's upside down.
06:50Like, he does it.
06:51He leans over the back of his head, and there are two people there, and he just takes them out.
06:56It's amazing.
06:56It's the question you asked, is number four, like, this is Uncharted number four, how many different ways are there
07:01to present action?
07:03Well, there's loads.
07:03Like, this is, it looks brilliant.
07:06And then very finally, the last number five, the thing which wasn't in the main presentation and is in this
07:11one, after everything's, there's some more amazing action.
07:15There's a bit which reminds me of the, when the truck is chasing him down the alley in Uncharted 2,
07:19except this time they're on a motorbike, and it's just ten times more exciting.
07:22Oh my God, it's unbelievable.
07:23And then our number five is...
07:26A character appears.
07:28Yeah.
07:28A certain character.
07:29And they're not expecting her to be there.
07:31Yeah.
07:31It's Elena.
07:32Yeah.
07:32And she's really mad.
07:34She's not happy at all.
07:35No.
07:36Probably because she's, I'm guessing, told Nathan, stop having these silly adventures.
07:42You're too old now.
07:43Yeah.
07:43Just settle down.
07:45Stop being, you know, stop risking your life.
07:48Stop being an action hero.
07:49Yeah.
07:49Stop going out trying to steal little bits of gold that don't mean anything.
07:53And which is, I guess that, I mean, the whole, we already know about the, the kind of the tension
07:57this time is that he is a bit older, and he has retired.
08:01I think that that's like, that's been, or at least that he's being dragged back into a situation he wouldn't
08:07normally, because his brother has turned up for the first time.
08:10And obviously, the tension is that he has had this life with Elena, and she's not happy about it.
08:15So, that was the first time we'd seen her.
08:16All of the faces of all of the characters, like, even during the action.
08:20Yeah.
08:20It's almost distracting.
08:22You're like, wow.
08:24How have they done that?
08:25It looks like a cut scene, but I'm playing it.
08:27Yeah, exactly.
08:28I mean, we've been saying that for years, like, you know, games generally, just like, but it really, like, it's
08:33just a whole, I guess every time there's a huge leap, you just kind of, your brain just goes, just
08:37give me a few minutes to figure this out.
08:39This is really weird.
08:39The main thing I took away from having seen the gameplay was, technically, it was the most astounding thing I've
08:47ever seen a video game do.
08:48Yeah.
08:49The things it was doing.
08:50I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
08:52I mean, it is, like, enormously technically impressive, as Naughty Dog's games always are.
08:57But what I really liked was, I mean, it did, it is ridiculous.
09:01Like, the action is, like, from the realism of The Last of Us, you know, like, earthed in this, you
09:07know, reality of, like, skulking and beating stuff to death.
09:09Yeah.
09:10Bricks.
09:11And so it's a different universe, but the intelligence of the action, you know, like, just the creativeness of it
09:17really struck me again.
09:18Just kind of, like, doesn't matter that it's the fourth one and we've played loads of Drake.
09:22Like, the combination of the humour and the action and the technical kind of achievement of it, I just, you
09:28know, I can't wait to play more.
09:29It's going to be amazing.
09:29I just want to add a little extra bit.
09:31I've just remembered it.
09:33After he's cleared out all the enemies and he finally catches up to Sam, he's in the truck, Sam's on
09:37the bike.
09:37They both look at each other and both at the same time they go, hop on.
09:41Yeah, yeah, that was great.
09:42And they have an argument about which vehicle they should be in.
09:45Like, what I love is, like, the economy of that, me and you in the room were laughing at it.
09:48Like, they have nailed the whole, everything that you would want to know about those two.
09:52They get on, but they're going to fight because they're so similar.
09:55Like, it was just done in a beat.
09:56It was brilliant.
09:57Yeah.
09:57Really, really good.
09:58So that's Uncharted 4.
09:59That is what you didn't see and I'm sorry, but we did.
