00:42Ever since I was a kid, I've just been so interested in fantastic stories and out of this world tales.
00:49And I grew up playing pen and paper role playing games.
00:52And when I got a chance in the 90s to start working with video games, I just jumped at the
00:58opportunity.
01:00Drawing for me is a way to relax.
01:04But it's also a sort of a journey.
01:08It's a way of exploring designs.
01:13And it's like a movie you've never seen before.
01:17A big part of my role was to visualise and come up with ideas for the world, locations, characters, props,
01:24structures and vehicles.
01:34You need a car in this world to survive.
01:36Max loses his car, the iconic Interceptor that we all know from the Mad Max movies.
01:42And he has to build a new one from scratch.
01:46Fortunately, he meets a guy who can do that.
01:51The Magnum Opus is the mad mechanic Chumbucket's vision for the greatest war machine that has ever rolled a blacktop.
01:59And Chumbucket is obsessed with cars and everything automobile.
02:05It's a religion to him.
02:07And when he says a magnum opus, that means just his grand work.
02:11This is what he's been put on the planet to create.
02:14This was a car that we wanted to play to remember.
02:17And so we put a lot of effort into the details to really make it shine.
02:31When we first heard about West Coast Customs taking on this task to build this car, we were blown away
02:40with happiness.
02:41I think I was screaming.
02:42This is a pretty big deal because we only get to see the car and hear it and play it.
02:47We never get to touch anything because in our world everything is make-believe.
02:51Everything is just on the screen.
02:54A small team went there to West Coast Customs to present the sketches and get them on board with the
03:00Mad Max universe.
03:03It's always great to come into a conference room not really knowing what they're here for.
03:07And then you see these storyboards and these pictures of what this car is they want to build.
03:12This project for the guys is going to be super fun.
03:15It was pretty amazing to see the inside of that.
03:18That whole building and what goes on behind the scenes and stuff like that.
03:24It was pretty damn cool.
03:26It's Mad Max. I mean, who doesn't know what Mad Max is?
03:30So we started with a Maverick and a Ford Ranger.
03:33We combined the two of them together to really make this off-road looking mean vehicle.
03:49When I heard about the car being ready, I was so thrilled.
03:53I was so excited about all the details and I just couldn't wait to get there.
04:00We're going to a location in Los Angeles where we are supposed to see the car that we have been
04:09developed on a piece of paper.
04:11And now it's become a reality.
04:14I was nervous, definitely.
04:16I was very nervous.
04:21Because you really want to have the details there.
04:36When I first saw the vehicle standing there on the parking lot, I was like, that looks so good.
04:47It was a very surreal experience.
05:05When I received the keys to the car and turned the engine on and when it just exploded, it's a
05:14very difficult feeling to describe.
05:16It was amazing.
05:20And it didn't feel safe.
05:23I didn't trust myself.
05:24This is going to go bad.
05:46So Mad Max is completed.
05:47Next step to get it loaded in the truck and head off to Wasteland.
05:53The Wasteland Weekend is a gathering of people from all over who come to the Mojave Desert annually to celebrate
06:02their love for the pop cultural conception of life after the apocalypse.
06:11My expectations were really high.
06:13Having been a fan of Mad Max since I was a kid and having been more or less obsessed with
06:17the ideas of surviving the post-apocalyptic wasteland ever since.
06:21This was something I was looking forward to tremendously.
06:31When we got to the wasteland, so to speak, in the Mojave Desert, you know, everybody had to wear a
06:38wasteland outfit.
06:39They wouldn't let anyone in who wasn't the wasteland, so to speak.
06:42So the illusion is complete inside.
06:46And actually, I got to say, it's like coming to meet your peers, you know.
06:51Finally, my family is gathered.
06:53It was just all the wasteland lunatics from all over the world that had come there to experience this dog
06:58-eating fiesta.
07:03They play the part so well.
07:05So when you see these people in their perfect replicas of smegma crazies and gay boy berserkers outfits,
07:11and they really look the part and play the part to a T, you know, it gets your heart racing
07:16a bit.
07:21Now we're about to head in, but I brought a couple of my friends with me.
07:26I met the MDR the guy.
07:38I'm a young man who grew up.
07:39He did it now.
07:41So long.
07:41So all these guys...
08:21So they built the car
08:22And we got to drive it
08:23And it was amazing
08:29From day one
08:30When we heard that we might
08:32Create a Mad Max video game
08:34And all the adventures that we have been through
08:36Doing so
08:38It's just one of the highlights
08:40Of my career
08:42If not my life
08:44This journey has been
08:47Tough
08:49Lots of happiness
08:51Lots of good experiences
08:53And
08:54It's been a true pleasure
09:16It's been a true pleasure
09:21It's been a true pleasure
09:22To be continued
09:22Grazie a tutti
