00:00Join me in giving a warm welcome to the head coach of Norfolk State University football.
00:04I told you what you was getting ready to run into.
00:07Both Mikes are struggling with being apart from each other.
00:11Andy Sack.
00:12Oh, hell no.
00:13And Coach Vic's debut ends in a disappointment.
00:16He gave it away an offer.
00:17We have a quarterback competition.
00:18I thought Otto played great, but I still think it's his job to lose.
00:22You say you're going to give me a fair shot to start, folks.
00:24I just thought Otto would quit. Israel could start the rest of the season.
00:27They out they mind. They think I don't know what I'm doing.
00:36I don't know what I'm doing.
00:59I don't know what I'm doing.
00:59You ain't like my pancake?
01:00I got four.
01:01You ain't not get four off of that one pancake.
01:04You didn't like the cardboard?
01:05Tell the truth.
01:06Yeah, it was a little tough to eat.
01:07It was a little rough around the edges.
01:09I decided to stay in Virginia after his first loss
01:12to help him cope.
01:13I just wanted to be there with him.
01:15You want to bring some food up to the up-up?
01:17No, because you blessed us with the lasagna last week.
01:19Thank you so much, baby.
01:20I just wanted to make you happy.
01:22Coming out of the Townsend game,
01:23I really felt like I didn't see what I needed to see.
01:26We gave up some big plays on defense, had some flags,
01:30had some touchdowns, called back.
01:31Really couldn't get a reading on the team.
01:33So what's the game plan for this week?
01:35What's going to be different?
01:36We practice hard.
01:37We spend more time with the quarterbacks.
01:38We spend more time making sure they come out sharp
01:41and Izzy will be ready to play.
01:43Playing a full game.
01:45No more going back and forth with him and the Otto situation.
01:49Otto had a rough day the other day.
01:51Practice?
01:52Attitude.
01:52When Otto punted that ball, that was disrespect to me,
01:56his teammates, and his coaches.
01:57He's kind of afraid that he's not going
01:59ever get back on the field again.
02:01But he's still a 21-year-old, so he's allowed
02:04to get frustrated.
02:05You just got to do it in a way where
02:07it's not a distraction to everybody else.
02:09I talked to Otto and he in good spirits.
02:12OK.
02:13This weekend is the bounce back week.
02:15We definitely need to win.
02:16So is Izzy going the game?
02:18What you see are like a lot of mistakes.
02:19Struggle.
02:20Are you going to let him stay?
02:21I'm going to let him play.
02:22It just got to be like bad to a point where it's like,
02:25I can't take no more, which I can't see that based
02:28on the preparation.
02:29But you never know.
02:30Baby, how are things going on back home?
02:32The house is falling apart.
02:34What else?
02:34It's falling apart.
02:36Being away from family is always difficult,
02:38especially when you're used to being together every day.
02:40London's still thinking about University of Miami.
02:42That last time we talked, that's what she was talking about.
02:45London is 17, soon to be 18.
02:48She is a senior in school.
02:49And we are actively searching for a college for her to go to.
02:53I think she change her mind, though,
02:54every couple of days.
02:56I've got to ask London what she want to do,
02:58and what she want to make.
02:59She's been, I don't know.
03:00I want to make a lot of money.
03:01Yeah, but that's...
03:03She's tall.
03:04I'm going to pick something.
03:06Sometimes I feel like I'm cheating my own kids,
03:08committing to 150 other kids.
03:11My kids give up a lot so I can go accomplish the things in life
03:14that I want to accomplish.
03:15Real feelings.
03:16You still happy you made the decision
03:17to let me come out here and coach?
03:22I am.
03:23In order for you to be successful,
03:25you have to give it your all.
03:27He can't half-ass this job.
03:28Come on, son.
03:29I got some else you know.
03:30Hey.
03:39Last week was a disappointment.
03:41We expected to win that game.
03:42Did you think they were going to win, though?
03:45Honestly, yeah.
03:46We had a national competition.
03:48I feel like it's time to turn the page,
03:50and we have to turn the page.
03:51Anytime you get a new coach,
03:52there's going to be a transition,
03:53especially when you had a history of not being successful.
03:57He's not going to come here
03:58and immediately make some winners.
04:01Last week, Towson.
04:02This week, Virginia State.
04:04Battle of the State.
04:06It's like the rivalry of the year.
04:08Look, they don't play.
04:09They get down.
04:11The big state, little state rivalry is huge,
04:15simply because there was once upon a time
04:16where Virginia State and Norfolk State was one school.
04:19When Norfolk State was originated,
04:21we were based out of Virginia Union.
04:23After that, we became our own entity,
04:25and Norfolk State University was born.
04:28Virginia State fans, they always love to say,
04:30you guys came from us.
04:31You guys are little state.
04:32We began clowning and stuff like that.
04:34Each school back and behind they school.
04:45Be aggressive on the perimeter.
04:47Eliminate the space in between you and the receiver.
04:50Stay outside. Set an edge.
04:52Go make a play.
04:53That loss against Townsend hit us all hard.
04:56We just got a lackadaisical feeling like Townsend was just going to fall down
04:59because of who our coach was or what the name we had.
05:02So it's been a rough few days understanding
05:03how much work we got put in to be Virginia State.
05:06We mainly focusing on our rules,
05:08making sure our rules tight, all right?
05:09They can come out and give us a totally new offense,
05:12something that we didn't plan for.
05:14All right, but we got to know our rules.
05:16Same page?
05:17Same page.
05:17Good. All right, let's make sure we all on time.
05:20All right.
05:20McCallum, let me holler at you.
05:22Sit down real quick, man.
05:23Let me just chop it up.
05:26All right, so there's a lot of people around here that know who you are.
05:30When you out there this week, be aggressive.
05:33That's who we expect to show up.
05:34Most definitely.
05:35Last year, we didn't get that many reps.
05:37You know what I'm saying?
05:38I'm a young guy.
05:39I'm a freshman.
05:40This year is going to skyrocket up.
05:42All right, so with that comes high expectations, right?
05:46Freshman, senior, it don't matter.
05:47Got to go out here and ball.
05:48Do your job.
05:51I'm from Newport News, Virginia.
05:52Just like Coach Vick.
05:53You can't go anywhere without hearing Coach Vick's name in any part of the city.
05:57Every kid growing up playing QB wants to throw the ball in their left hand.
06:00I know I did.
06:00I do everything in sports left-handed.
06:02That left-handed.
06:04When I was young, I went to a Michael Vick football camp.
06:06Bro, look at you.
06:07Now I want MVP of the camp.
06:09Look at you, bro.
06:10Say hi.
06:11Hungry.
06:11We're here.
06:12Still hungry.
06:13It's wild to be Coach Vick's player.
06:15It's just I didn't see myself being in this position.
06:18Growing up in Newport News, it's definitely tough.
06:20There's definitely a lot of violence.
06:23When I was a sophomore in high school, one of my best friends, Justice Dunham, went to
06:28a basketball game and got an altercation, and he was tragically shot and killed in the
06:33parking lot.
06:35We had got into a little argument a couple days before, and I never really got to say
06:40goodbye or say sorry, but being able to keep his legacy going through me, that's one
06:45of the biggest reasons I do play is for him.
06:49Last year, I was coming to Norfolk State thinking I was going to play a lot, but I didn't play
06:53last year, and it definitely messed me up mentally.
06:55The competitive nature in me wanted to play badly.
06:58My weight right now is about 165, but I need to be 175.
07:03Being a small guy, people overlooking you.
07:06You can't do this because of your size, which just gives me another chip on my shoulder because
07:09this is just another person I got to go prove wrong.
07:14What's at stake for me this season, in my opinion, is everything.
07:16This is all I've ever wanted.
07:18It's all I could ever ask for.
07:19If I can't make this work, I don't know what I'm going to do.
07:23This season, I want to be a starter and get an interception.
07:27Being able to get my first one would be a blessing.
07:29I got to be rookie of the year, and I'm definitely striving for all Americans.
07:32But first, I got to get on that field.
07:35Keep going.
07:36Keep being confident.
07:37Keep being you.
07:38When we go out there, when your number is calling, it's time to go.
07:40It's time to go.
07:46We talked this morning a little bit.
07:47We met quarterback-wise about just the film.
07:50Watched it a little bit.
07:51I told her yesterday too, like, stand back here and get your reps.
07:54Don't give up.
07:55Just stay ready, please.
07:56It might not be a situation you want right now, but when we need you,
07:59your teammates are going to need you.
08:00It's been real positive the last couple days.
08:03That's good.
08:04We'll be all right.
08:05We'll get them right.
08:05We'll get them right.
08:06It'll be good.
08:11Let's go.
08:11Let's have a good one today.
08:12Let's have a good one.
08:13Let's be physical.
08:14In today's practice, I want Izzy to show that he's ready to go four quarters
08:17against Virginia State.
08:19Hey Izzy, instead of going way back to, you know you're going that way,
08:23just drift so he can be right there in front of him.
08:25Otto's very competitive, and he want to be out there.
08:27He want to play.
08:28I get it.
08:28But ultimately, glad Otto came back and joined the practice.
08:31And I respect that.
08:33As a leader on this team, there's a whole bunch of stuff that's going on
08:36with each and every position.
08:37And football is an emotional game.
08:39It's very easy to get in your feelings very fast.
08:42You got to have a positive attitude at all times.
08:44Make a good block, Kayvon.
08:46Oh, Izzy, you got to hit that.
08:47After Townsend practices, very high intensity.
08:50Cat, cat, cat, cat, cat, cat.
08:53Oh, my Jesus.
08:55Get it right.
08:55Get it right.
08:56Don't look sloppy.
08:56Oh, my.
08:57They're sticking with Izzy this week.
08:59I mean, we didn't win the game, so I don't think it was enough just to say,
09:02overall, yeah, he's the guy.
09:04He's not.
09:05From my perspective, I believe I'm going to get a little bigger, a little stronger.
09:08And I need to show them who's really willing to compete for the job.
09:11Because nobody's position is solidified after a loss like that.
09:15Let's go, offense.
09:16Let's go.
09:17Move.
09:18I always go up to the top to watch practice so I can get, like, an overall coverage of
09:22the plays.
09:23And I like to get a coach's press box kind of view.
09:29Being Mike Vick's brother, I want to see my brother win.
09:31I want to help him win.
09:32I was the third youngest child growing up.
09:36Kind of idolized my brother.
09:37We never had, like, no brother, sibling rivalry.
09:39We always supported each other.
09:41Growing up in the 90s, it was just always about protecting one another.
09:45There was a lot of things going on in our neighborhood.
09:47So I had to be conscious of what was going on around me.
09:49Also was conscious of how he was growing up.
09:52Marcus and Michael, they always had a great relationship.
09:55When they were growing up, Marcus would always be right by his brother's side.
10:00When I was five, six years old, I always wondered,
10:02where was Mike going every day after school?
10:05So I always wanted to go.
10:06And when I turned six or seven, they let me go.
10:09And we just been playing football ever since.
10:12You know, as a big brother, it was my job to help him facilitate how things could and should go
10:17in his life.
10:18A lot of people say that I was the better quarterback.
10:21When I was in college at Virginia Tech, I never really had the vision that Mike had.
10:25When it's time for Marcus to go to Virginia Tech, first thing I asked him was, is he ready for
10:29the pressure?
10:30He said yes, and I trusted him.
10:32It was always a lot of pressure, a lot of stress being Michael Vick's younger brother.
10:37I mean, I enjoyed it.
10:40But things didn't end as well as I wanted.
10:44After college, when I played for the Miami Dolphins, I got in trouble drinking, alluding the police, doing stupid stuff.
10:51I was a little high-headed, but I never really thought ahead for the future.
10:56Mark kind of grew up faster than what he needed to.
10:59But over the course of the years, Mark has just gotten more and more mature.
11:04I was always proud of Mike. He was always proud of me.
11:07And that's my brother. That's all I know.
11:09We've been through a lot together.
11:10He's not afraid to tell me the truth about anything.
11:14I always say what other people didn't want to say to Mike.
11:17Sometimes we be ready to put the gloves on.
11:20But man, I love him to death.
11:21And when Mark come to me and tell me something, I know I need to hear it.
11:25Oh!
11:26He dropped that shit.
11:28As a quarterback, my opinion on Izzy is he's a good kid.
11:31Step up.
11:32But when it comes down to playing ball, we want to see the chains get moved.
11:36We want to see first downs.
11:37Ah!
11:38Izzy, what you looking at?
11:40I just feel like right now, everything's kind of happening too fast for him.
11:44Otto is a fifth-year senior.
11:45Hey, look, the first game in Townsend, we had two wide receivers with 100-plus yards.
11:50So that's enough said on its own, especially when the starting quarterback Izzy went three
11:55and out three or four different drives.
11:58One of my brother's weaknesses is that him and Izzy got a super close relationship.
12:03Back shoulder, you got to practice there with your receivers after practice.
12:05You know what I'm saying?
12:06When he have a close-knit relationship with someone, you know, he hold it to dear heart.
12:11Good job, Izzy.
12:12I want to see him be successful with this.
12:15Don't let his relationships with certain players hinder what's right for the team.
12:22I want to get 10 touchdowns.
12:24You get to do it with me.
12:25To be coaching my son, it's a blessing.
12:28I'm trying to get my scholarship.
12:29If the scholarship doesn't happen for me, I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
12:33The rivalry with Virginia State, man, it's a big one.
12:36I'm nervous.
12:37We got to go home with this win.
12:40Izzy caught her under center, and he fumbles the snap.
12:42You notice a big drive coming out.
12:44This is everything.
12:49Michael!
12:51Come on!
12:52Good morning.
12:54Did you talk to Daddy today?
12:55No.
12:56You want to call him?
12:57Yeah.
13:02Yeah, I think he's asleep.
13:04You think I? Maybe he is.
13:05While Mike and the team gets ready this week for a win, I'm at Fort Lauderdale with the kids
13:09before we all head back to Virginia.
13:12What you going to do when you see him?
13:13Let me jump on him.
13:14You want to jump on him?
13:16I know little Mike really misses his daddy, and we all can't wait to see him.
13:20We're going to play a game.
13:21What's the game?
13:22Head and seat.
13:25Good morning, London.
13:26Good morning.
13:28Can you help?
13:29Yes, please.
13:30Can you get his snack together for me?
13:32I want Nutella sticks.
13:33No, no Nutella for school, baby.
13:35That's too much sugar.
13:36The sugar makes you go crazy.
13:37Like, argh, argh, argh, argh, argh, argh, argh, argh.
13:42So, London, how was your first day yesterday?
13:45All my classes are, like, okay.
13:47I just am in classes with not a lot of girls.
13:49Any cute boys?
13:50No.
13:51Sorry.
13:52When I talk to my parents about my decisions for college, it honestly stresses me out more
13:57than it should because my mom has been pressing me to visit schools.
14:01And, like, every time I'm like, yeah, whatever, like, I'll do it.
14:04But I definitely will.
14:05All right, we got to hurry up, Michael.
14:06You got ten minutes.
14:07You excited about the game, fool?
14:09Yeah.
14:09Do you know what's going on when you watch the games?
14:11No.
14:12I know, like, a touchdown.
14:14You know what a first down is?
14:15Do you know what a first down is?
14:17Tackle someone.
14:18A first down is not a tackle.
14:20Oh, no.
14:21How do Michael Dick children not know football?
14:27All right, don't rush.
14:28Take your time.
14:29Bye.
14:30Bye.
14:31Your 17-year-old driving your 7-year-old to school.
14:34Scares the shit out of me.
14:36Bye, baby.
14:48Let's get better today.
14:49Let's go.
14:54We have a lot of work to do.
14:56And my mindset is, wow, can we score points?
14:59Can we stop other teams?
15:01I know I got a young staff.
15:02I know the talent level that we have,
15:05the maturities that we have.
15:06So I'm nervous about all these things.
15:08All right, Michael.
15:09Let's go, baby.
15:11Yeah.
15:12Nice, Michael.
15:14Great job, baby.
15:16Boy, there's so much that I want to say.
15:19I'm hot.
15:20What's wrong?
15:21Today?
15:22You hot today?
15:23Oh, yeah, I'm hot.
15:26Hey, Dre, you stay hot.
15:28You stay steamy.
15:30Dre and I, we go way back, man, to our collegiate days at Virginia Tech.
15:34And Dre was always just a bright spot every day.
15:37Always outgoing, funny.
15:40What's up, Joe?
15:41No raw dog like that, dog.
15:43It was all something that we talked about.
15:45If I was to ever get a coaching job one day that we would coach together.
15:48Yo, man, you're a jack of all trades, bro.
15:50You do a great job and doing a great job.
15:52You heard me.
15:53I know he's a guy that I can go and talk to and really lean on.
15:57Who the hell is that?
15:58Oh, that's my boy.
15:59That's my boy.
16:00Okay.
16:00My dad's the running back coach.
16:03He's also in my ear 24-7.
16:05Dre Sean!
16:07Stop!
16:08It makes this feel even more like a family.
16:11I found a picture of me and Dre Sean the other day.
16:14We was working out.
16:15It's fair to say we go way back.
16:16I always knew Dre Sean growing up.
16:19Seeing Dre and Dre Sean together, man, it's truly special.
16:22I wanted family atmosphere on this team.
16:27Let's go!
16:28Let's go!
16:28Let's go!
16:41Mike playing in the NFL, it taught me a lot about running a household.
16:45As a coach, you are away from your family a lot.
16:48The team now becomes your main priority in life.
16:51We may go up there for three days, but still we're away from him for four days.
16:57Little Mike told him the other day we went to go see him.
17:00He's like, Dad, I feel like you're not my dad anymore because you're never around.
17:05That hurt me.
17:06I know it hurt Mike.
17:07It was just like, wow.
17:08It was a big eye-opener that this little person felt these strong feelings.
17:13So, him leaving to go coach doesn't make me feel like, oh my God, my husband's gone.
17:19What am I going to do?
17:20No.
17:20I'm a very strong woman.
17:22For a long time, I struggled with not knowing my purpose in life.
17:26But when Mike went away to prison, he was gone for two years.
17:31And I felt like that's when I really found myself.
17:34That gave me the strength to go through pretty much everything that we go through in life now,
17:38when he's gone for months at a time.
17:41I'm a playmaker.
17:42I'm a coach, too, in the house.
17:45Mike might be the quarterback when he was in the league, but I feel like I'm the coach.
17:55Game one's over.
17:57Who's going to be the starting quarterback for game two?
17:59And then you see, it's Izzy again.
18:02I still think it's Izzy's job to lose.
18:04He'll be back out there next week.
18:05And now you're wondering, why is Izzy starting again when Otto did have a better performance last game?
18:11And it makes you wonder, what is Coach Vic thinking?
18:14What's his game plan?
18:14What's his strategy here?
18:16They need to start Otto.
18:17Otto's been going to NSU since before I got here.
18:20I transferred here my freshman year from Eastern Illinois.
18:23Norfolk State coaches hit me up, flew me out here, and committed that day.
18:26It's been a journey in Norfolk State since.
18:28I've watched Otto over the years, and people were bashing him, talking about the whole thing of a white quarterback
18:33at an HBCU.
18:35They need to get a new quarterback.
18:37They should have a black quarterback.
18:39Historically, if you were a black athlete and you aspired to play quarterback, you would historically be switched to the
18:44wide receiver.
18:45And Mike was so good that he was part of that force to change the NFL.
18:52And now if you play quarterback, you've got to be athletic.
18:54It's not a white quarterback versus a black quarterback.
18:58It's who's going to make the play.
19:06Are you helping me?
19:07Yeah, yeah, yeah.
19:08Hey, I'm okay.
19:10Good.
19:12My support system, my family is amazing.
19:14Almost every week, my aunt and uncle cook for us, so they come over there, we get some food.
19:17You ready to eat now?
19:18Yeah.
19:18All right.
19:19I'm always eating.
19:20I just feel like now I'm harping on it more just because I've got to put the weight on.
19:23Especially coming from last year, not playing it off.
19:26Got to get my weight up.
19:27Where you at now?
19:28Like 164.
19:29164?
19:30We trying to get to 170?
19:31Oh, you better keep on eating.
19:36Y'all want some Texas toast?
19:38Yes, please.
19:39Makai, you want some of this?
19:40Yeah, I think so.
19:45You taking any hits in practice now?
19:47A little bit, but I know how to protect myself since I've always been one of the smallest.
19:51It's not like it's something new.
19:53I ain't never been one to duck a tackle.
19:55I've been that my whole life, you know?
19:57Y'all ready for the game?
19:58Can't stop thinking about the game.
20:00Watching you last year, we was watching what you would do on the sidelines.
20:04I'm playing this year though, so I know it's going to be more to watch.
20:07I know y'all excited.
20:08Knowing it's a robbery game, knowing a lot of people from my hometown going to be there,
20:11it's a lot at stake for Coach Vic and for us as well.
20:14I'm just not here to disappoint nobody.
20:16I'm not here to let my family down.
20:18What motivates me is being able to make a better life for my family.
20:22Just seeing the things that my people sacrificed for me,
20:24I just want to be able to give it back to them.
20:27How's the food?
20:28It's all right.
20:29It's all right.
20:30The kitchen is officially shut down.
20:33You're joking.
20:44No, I'm here.
20:46And I got some Chinese food so we want to take it out of the fridge right?
20:49Yeah, it's cool having my dad around.
20:51It was just popping out of nowhere.
20:53I'm taking it for lunch tomorrow, I'm pop.
20:55We got a tighter relationship than we ever had.
20:57And I know he always got my back in anything in life.
21:00It's always family first for me.
21:02That's why I chose to come home.
21:03Whoa, birds!
21:05Yeah, he was like, got to watch it, got to watch it.
21:09You need something real quick?
21:11I'm going into Virginia State.
21:12I'm trying to get 1% better every single day.
21:15The last competition here we did.
21:16You want to look at it?
21:17Yeah, I just wanted to see that.
21:19All right, hold on.
21:20I won't say quarterbacking is easy,
21:22but when you can explain it and teach it the way that I can,
21:25then we make it fairly easy.
21:26Sit down real quick. Go ahead, Dick.
21:28Look, Iz, you come to the line of scrimmage,
21:30you know you got to post, you got to out.
21:33So even if you look this way, you done drew everybody over here,
21:36you can come back and throw this.
21:37You see what I'm saying?
21:43Me and Vic, we had a conversation earlier in the week
21:45when he told me he was going to end up starting Izzy.
21:48You know it hurt to hear, but I got to compare to the same.
21:51You got to watch film and see where he went wrong.
21:56Look, Vic's pissed.
21:58Nah, just get your eyes right on him now.
22:01Boom. You don't like it?
22:02Back to the pearl.
22:04Back to the swing.
22:06You see what I'm saying?
22:07Mike, now this head coaching thing,
22:09his main thing is going to be the players.
22:11That's when the outside zones kind of get a little bit.
22:14Nah, just get your eyes right on him now.
22:16He can set the stage for them,
22:18but they're the ones that's going to have to go out and play the game.
22:22Eliminate the post.
22:23This is dead.
22:24You feel what I'm saying?
22:25Yeah.
22:25That's a fair thing.
22:27Going through the film with Izzy,
22:28I don't know if he's getting it.
22:29I'm hoping he get it.
22:31Good work.
22:31Yes, sir.
22:32Good work.
22:32Everybody know what's at stake.
22:34Izzy has to go out and perform.
22:35I'm ready to get to practice.
22:36It's a big day of practice for him.
22:41Izzy caught an under center, and he fumbles the snap.
22:44Coach Vic can't be happy with what he's seen.
22:46This is a four-quarter game.
22:47If you can't come back from this,
22:49you can't come back from nothing.
23:01Yeah, it's about to get out in the sun.
23:03I'm not worried.
23:04Watch out, bring it back.
23:06Like, I pretty much beat you in everything except video games.
23:09Basketball, I gave you 17 straight one.
23:11No, no, no, no.
23:11What?
23:12You got hot one day.
23:13Oh, my.
23:15Me and my dad are prideful and competitive.
23:18Both definitely jokesters.
23:20Joke around a lot with each other.
23:21Any downtime we have, we spend it together.
23:24What were you and Coach Vic like in college together?
23:26That's what I wanted.
23:27Man, it was crazy because, like,
23:29I brought Mike in.
23:31The boys went down there and saw him throwing that football.
23:33I was like, oh, my goodness.
23:34I never seen that type of arm strength,
23:36the velocity, the accuracy.
23:38You know, he used to come home.
23:39Mom and Grandma used to cook them roasts,
23:42stuff like that.
23:42So we just all became a family, man.
23:44And that's still to this day.
23:47Growing up with Coach Vic,
23:49I didn't really understand how big of an icon he was
23:52until my friends started to talk about,
23:54like, oh, you know Michael Vic,
23:55but to me he's just been Uncle Mike my whole life.
23:58And being a senior, this could be your last year of football,
24:01so you want to make the most out of it.
24:02But I want to get 1K.
24:04I want to get 10 touchdowns.
24:06Last year you get to do it with me.
24:07Start here.
24:08Yeah.
24:09Full circle moment.
24:10To be coaching my son the last year of his college football career,
24:15it's a blessing.
24:17I'm soaking it all up.
24:18That's what I'm doing.
24:21Man, you lost.
24:22Oh, you happy because you got a victory?
24:24It's still 1-1 now.
24:25I won the last one, so I'll get one more.
24:32My name is Kyrie Moiston.
24:34I play defensive end.
24:35I'm transferring from the University of Cincinnati,
24:38and when I got here they didn't have any, like,
24:40scholarships available for me.
24:42And for having to pay for school, that's a big thing,
24:44because college, it's not cheap, for real.
24:47What's up, mom?
24:48What you doing?
24:49I'm leaning.
24:50Did you do your interview?
24:52What a job he was looking for.
24:53No, I ain't do it, because I've been having that conversation
24:57with Vic and everything about trying to get my scholarship.
25:01Uh-huh.
25:01And I just really, I just really hope that, you know, I get it.
25:04You're going to be a blessing if you get it.
25:08The biggest obstacle I had overcome in my life was my environment.
25:13I grew up in a lot of different places, like Norfolk, Chesapeake,
25:16Virginia Beach.
25:17The situations I went through with my mom,
25:19dealing with where we're going to stay,
25:21not being able to maintain the money to be able to, like, be stable.
25:25It was pretty difficult for me.
25:27Football is something that I've really loved since I was six years old.
25:30You don't want this trophy for me!
25:32Stop!
25:34I like the head.
25:37At the end of the day, it's controlled violence.
25:39Yeah!
25:40Sweet!
25:41Kyrie.
25:42Kyrie.
25:42Kyrie's a beast.
25:44Oh, yeah!
25:45My junior year in high school, I started to blow up a little bit,
25:49started to get a lot of offers, and then I went to Cincinnati.
25:53I had went through a lot of things when I got to Cincinnati.
25:55I lost my big brother in July 2023.
26:00It was a heart attack.
26:02He wasn't able to get the help that he needed at the time.
26:08So I left Cincinnati and came back to VA,
26:10but now I can't afford to not have a scholarship.
26:13It's a lot, but at the end of the day, like,
26:15nothing is going to be given.
26:16You got to work for everything you get in this life,
26:18so you got to put your head down and grind.
26:29You sit here, you pull two agents, and he get pulled out.
26:34It's because he just ain't meeting expectations yet.
26:39Let's have a good day today.
26:40Practice with good technique.
26:42We got to send a message.
26:44We got to hit the reset button.
26:45We got to go attack Virginia State,
26:47and we got to do better at the office.
26:50Anticipating and being ahead of the curve,
26:51because this is an opportunity for me to get my first win.
26:56In practice, I'm going as hard as I can
26:58and improving to Coach Vick and everybody else
26:59that I can be a starter to.
27:01How was that? We couldn't get set, but how was that?
27:04Yeah.
27:04You just want to rim up, but you sit quiet.
27:06Yes, sir.
27:08Makai's a competitor.
27:09He's from Newport News.
27:11He got a lot of fight in him.
27:12Hey, Daly, at first, let's run.
27:15His heart is bigger than his body.
27:17Coach, Coach Ava!
27:19Being young, I know that I got to put the time in.
27:22I put the extra hours in.
27:23Makai, I think, just has to continue to trust himself.
27:26Defensive coach has got to challenge him.
27:28What makes it hard for him to get reps is his weight.
27:30He's going to be able to go fit, you know,
27:32against a Big Ten school.
27:36Hey, that's good work right there. That's good work.
27:39Izz, you got to hit that.
27:41Going into Virginia State,
27:43there's a lot of expectations.
27:44A lot of other people might call it pressure.
27:47But the only thing that's going on in my mind
27:49is when for Coach Vick...
27:51Shit!
27:52Got to make that throw.
27:54Izz needs to trust what he knows.
27:56When the ball is snapped, making the right decisions,
27:58making the right reads,
27:59going to the right places with the ball.
28:04Expectations under Coach Vick,
28:05we all know the competitor he is.
28:07I know he doesn't want to lose.
28:08We started off a little rocky,
28:09but, you know, Rome wasn't building today,
28:11and I feel like we're going to turn it around.
28:17Everybody home.
28:18The whole team home.
28:19Good job, good job.
28:20Everybody want to eat.
28:22We lose this game going 0-2
28:24against a rival in Virginia State.
28:28I couldn't even imagine that.
28:30When we come out here on Saturday,
28:32we're going to be shocked.
28:33It's going to be beautiful.
28:33We're going to give them something to watch.
28:36Same page?
28:37Same page.
28:37Let's get it.
28:40Izzy Carter fires downfield incomplete,
28:42which will bring up another fourth down.
28:45Hey, Izzy!
28:45We're going to try to get a sparkle out on you.
28:47We've got to come back tonight.
28:48Let's do it.
28:48Don't lose it.
28:52Hey, Coach, just real quick.
28:54Just a clarification on Kyrie Morse.
28:56He's been calling me all day.
28:58I texted him telling him to come over here.
29:01I just got this text from Coach.
29:03You know, I'm wondering what it's going to be.
29:04I'm hoping that it's my scholarship.
29:07This is my life right now,
29:08so if this scholarship doesn't happen for me,
29:10I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
29:12You've been showing up, man.
29:13You've been doing what you're supposed to do,
29:14and I respect that.
29:15That's what this game is all about.
29:17You know what I'm saying?
29:18The effort.
29:19Kyrie's energy the week at Townsend was just amazing.
29:22Like, you could tell that he was going to do some great things
29:24for him to go into the game and have two sacks.
29:27Kyrie proved that he's a true player.
29:30Hey, boy, look.
29:30You just got to put on a scholarship.
29:32Appreciate that, man.
29:34You got to put on a scholarship, man.
29:35You got to put on a scholarship, man.
29:36To be able to be on a scholarship,
29:38that really means a lot to me,
29:39because, you know, having to pay for school,
29:41that's a big thing.
29:42Congratulations, man.
29:43Appreciate that, Coach.
29:45For real, man.
29:45Appreciate that.
29:46I'm going to go out there.
29:47I'm going to go hard,
29:48because I'm Jim not just balling for me.
29:50I'm balling for my mama.
29:51Good job, man.
29:52Good job, man.
29:53Good job, man.
30:01I appreciate this.
30:03Coral, every day, all day.
30:06LSU ain't rocking with that 1882.
30:08LSU ain't rocking with that 1882.
30:10LSU ain't rocking with that 1882.
30:11LSU ain't rocking with that 1882.
30:11Going into Virginia State,
30:12you have some people that do their talking.
30:14You know, that fuels you up a little bit.
30:16Ah, this shit feel good.
30:18This shit feel damn good.
30:19Let's go.
30:20All right, you know.
30:20Come on, we got this shit, bro.
30:22Let's just huddle up real quick.
30:24Let's huddle up.
30:25The rivalry with Virginia State, man, it's a big one.
30:28They have some guys that we're gonna have to neutralize.
30:30We're gonna have to work for every blade of grass.
30:35Hey, fellas, let's go be great today.
30:38Defend our house.
30:41All the hard work, preparation, all the time,
30:43energy we put into this shit, let's take it out on them.
30:49Sending the asses back up, 64, leaking.
30:55Let's get the job done today.
30:56Somebody get the break, let's go.
31:07Let's get to it one more time, baby.
31:09Hello, I'm Ross Gordon.
31:10Beautiful day for football here,
31:12and it's the Battle of the States,
31:13Norfolk State versus Virginia State.
31:17It feels great to be at the second game.
31:19I'm nervous, because we gotta go home with this win.
31:21We cannot lose today.
31:22No matter how I feel about the quarterback situation,
31:25we gotta support Izzy and try to be a good teammate.
31:28Time to get to it.
31:29Let's go, baby.
31:30Game time, let's get it.
31:33Spartans on defense look like they have a new look.
31:35Mekhi Frisbee will start at cornerback today.
31:38Lock that up, lock that up, Mekhi.
31:41Mekhi, the little guy, setting the tone with a huge hit.
31:44Being a sophomore is really rare to start.
31:47It feels amazing.
31:48It feels like everything that I've been working for
31:50is finally paying off.
31:51Well, we look good today.
31:52They get in punt formation, and the kick is blocked.
31:55Recovered for a touchdown, and the Spartans take an early lead.
31:58Hey, we got a long game, baby.
32:00We got a long game, let's go.
32:02Let's go, Izzy, let's go.
32:05Throw it early.
32:06Throw it soon.
32:07Throw it soon.
32:09Punt.
32:10Hey, let's get it back, D. Let's get it back.
32:15Oh, and Kyrie Moisten jumps offside.
32:19I feel like that penalty.
32:20I just needed to calm down and get myself together.
32:23You know you're going back in the game, just relax.
32:25Virginia State back to pass.
32:26Makhi Frisbee steps in front of the pass, and it's intercepted.
32:30And he'll go all the way into the end zone.
32:33And this one's going to be called back on the roughing the passer call.
32:39What a disappointment for Makhi Frisbee.
32:42Dang, when I make the play and it's getting deducted because of dumb things, I was mad.
32:46I know you can't get these plays too often.
32:49Can't catch a break, bro.
32:52The ball is up and complete for the touchdown, Virginia State.
32:57This Makhi Frisbee got turned around, and it looks like there's an injured player for the Spartans.
33:02Kyrie toe, yeah, he out, Kyrie out.
33:04When I had it landed, my toe had, like, punched the ground.
33:07I'm just trying to get back out there.
33:09Let's go get it back on offense, let's go.
33:11Gotta get back, gotta get back.
33:13Izzy Carter under center, and he fumbles the snap.
33:16And it's picked up by Virginia State, and it's going to be an easy six for the Trojans.
33:20Aw, shit, that hurt.
33:22As the Spartans head to the locker room, Coach Vic can't be happy with what he's seen from his offense.
33:27Norfolk State gets the football to come out of the break.
33:30It's going to be key for them to get something on the board.
33:33You know this is a big drive coming out.
33:35We need this drive.
33:36This is everything.
33:38Listen, get one more drive.
33:40The hard part is it's open, and Miss I Dean, and guys see that.
33:45Going to the halftime, coaches are looking at me like things are going wrong.
33:49But Izzy is our starting quarterback, and Izzy deserves to go out there and finish the football game.
33:54Let's go.
33:54Get them boys going.
33:55Come on.
33:56Get that look off your face.
33:57Let's go.
33:58Keep believing.
33:58You gotta finish.
33:59It's a four-quarter game.
34:00If you can't come back from this, bro, you can't come back from nothing.
34:03Come on now.
34:04Just give me everything you got.
34:13Woo!
34:14Woo!
34:16We need to sprinkle something like Juju on now.
34:19Everybody stay poised.
34:20This is our game.
34:21We're coming back to win this mother .
34:22Hey, stay it.
34:23Hey, man.
34:24Carter drops back to pass, and it's not down at the line of scrimmage.
34:27Carter fires downfield in country, which will bring up another fourth down for this one.
34:33Hey, Izzy.
34:34We're gonna try to get a spot for Otto.
34:36Don't lose it.
34:38Don't lose it.
34:40One play at a time, one drive at a time.
34:42For the second week in a row, here comes Otto Coombs to spell Izzy Carter.
34:46Come on, Otto.
34:47They put me in.
34:48Let's roll.
34:48We gotta come back to make.
34:49Let's do it.
34:51Goombs.
34:52Drops back.
34:52Takes off.
34:53And he will break free for a first down.
34:56We'll work on that, baby.
34:57That's a way to extend that play.
34:58Goombs looking for J.J. Evans.
35:00And hits card for a touchdown.
35:03Coming back to win this thing.
35:04Getting the Spartans right back in the ball game.
