00:00.
00:30And welcome again to the big match.
00:32Three more top games for you today,
00:34and the main one is the London Derby game
00:36between Crystal Palace, who've been struggling so hard,
00:38and West Ham, who've gone striding ahead this season.
00:41That's at Sellers Park.
00:42Finding just enough room to find Bobby Moore.
00:44That was a good piece of play.
00:45Again by Coker.
00:46And now Robson, can he make this number four?
00:48No!
00:48Good work by Jackson there.
00:50Turn again.
00:51Good work by Jackson once more.
00:53Also today, Everton against Newcastle.
00:58Just over the top.
01:00And Nottingham Forest against Derby County.
01:05But first, it's the action as we bring you,
01:08Crystal Palace against West Ham.
01:10And the new faces in the Palace side,
01:12and the customary drawing power of West Ham,
01:14have lifted this Sellers Park gate to over 41,000.
01:17Only Manchester United have drawn more there this season.
01:20And it's just before West Ham come out,
01:22later as usual, of course, by their England skipper, Bobby Moore,
01:26that the crowd hears of another new face.
01:2817-year-old Adi Coker from Nigeria comes in at number nine for West Ham
01:32because Geoff Hurst is injured.
01:34It's his first league game.
01:36And in goal, Peter Grotia gets his first game of the season
01:39because Bobby Ferguson is unwell.
01:41So, in the South London sunshine,
01:43it's a surprise and wonderful chance for Coker, still an apprentice.
01:47And a good opportunity, too, for cheerful Peter Grotia to show his qualities once more.
01:52Now Crystal Palace, who've picked up six points since that massive upheaval five weeks ago,
01:57still getting to know each other.
01:58Goodwin at four, Craven eight, Kellard at ten, have all recently arrived.
02:03And now there are two Scottish internationals from Celtic,
02:05both getting their first taste of Sellers Park football.
02:09Both men with great European Cup experience.
02:11Both of them, in fact, have been in finals for Celtic.
02:14Now, John Hughes, some 14 stone of him.
02:17And the Palace substitute today his old Celtic teammate, Willie Wallace.
02:23So, young Addy Coker, 17, gets West Ham away,
02:25defending the goal to our right in their second strip.
02:30All light blue with two claret hoops.
02:33Crystal Palace in those new shirts of theirs.
02:36White with the claret and blue.
02:38Broadstripe and Tamling now.
02:40Trying to find Craven, who couldn't control it.
02:43And a goal kick to West Ham United.
02:45So, West Ham in a good run.
02:47And Crystal Palace also.
02:49Bobby Moore.
02:56Lampard.
03:00To Best.
03:04Trying to get between Blythe and Craven.
03:07But Blythe now to Wall.
03:10And John Craven.
03:12And he took something in the face there from Lampard.
03:15An elbow, it seemed.
03:17Keith Walker going to have a quick word with Frank Lampard.
03:25Peter Wall.
03:26Looks already as though Wall is going to be deployed as a sweeper for Crystal Palace this afternoon.
03:30David Payne.
03:31Stopped again by Moore.
03:34But now Kellard.
03:37And Goodwin.
03:38To try a shot.
03:40And Grosje at the second goal.
03:42A fine flying save there by Grosje.
03:45His first first team game of the season from Goodwin.
03:49And a good save at the second goal.
03:52Beautifully struck shot though by the Scott of Crystal Palace.
03:57Now Tommy Taylor for West Ham.
04:02Moore.
04:03Lampard.
04:07Brooking.
04:09Lampard's gone on.
04:11And Craven went back with him.
04:18Best.
04:20Taken nicely on his body and given Lampard enough room to cross it.
04:23Coca going for it.
04:24And McCormick going with him.
04:26John Jackson.
04:32Best.
04:33Was pushed in the back by Mel Blythe.
04:36West Ham's free kick.
04:43Robson and Lampard.
04:44Lampard's going to hit one but hitting it straight against that Crystal Palace wall.
04:47But it's the corner for West Ham.
04:56Those three points that Crystal Palace have taken from their last two games have taken them off the bottom of
05:01the first division.
05:03Bobby Kellard.
05:04Right in that goal mouth there.
05:05The corner coming up and Bond's going for it.
05:07And Kuga.
05:09He scored.
05:10The young lad 17.
05:12Playing in his first game.
05:14Seven minutes gone.
05:15And a rocket-like shot that gave Jackson no chance.
05:19What a start for him.
05:21Delighted.
05:27What a smile from young Eddie Coker as he really thumped that ball home.
05:41So now it's Crystal Palace a goal down and I would think that Jeff Hurst himself would say I couldn't
05:48have done better than that myself.
05:56Wall pumping a high ball forward towards Hughes.
05:58A bit of misunderstanding there in the West Ham defence but they've conceded the free kick.
06:07The wall quickly organising itself.
06:10Young Eddie Coker joining him.
06:12What a tremendous start for him.
06:14Craven to take it.
06:16Played off nicely there towards Tambling by Kellard.
06:19And West Ham having trouble getting it away.
06:20It's Tony Taylor.
06:24Now Blythe.
06:27Lampard leaping for it and not entirely winning it.
06:30And Hughes trying to turn it back for somebody.
06:32Blythe to belt it through again.
06:42McDowell.
06:44Coker losing that one in the air but he's a good deal shorter than McCormick.
06:47Coker now on the ground.
06:49This time to Billy Bonds.
06:51West Ham looking at the moment aside with the confidence of the record behind them.
06:5516 games and only one defeat.
06:59Now Tambling.
07:02Moore backing away from him.
07:04And West Ham trying to reform.
07:06Still Bobby Tambling.
07:08And it's Robson in fact who then gives it to John Hughes.
07:14Coker coming for this one and going in hard with Kellard.
07:17But the ball breaking this time for Payne for Crystal Palace.
07:21Coker again.
07:23Laying that off nicely for Brookings.
07:28Redknapp.
07:32Brookings.
07:34To Bonds.
07:38Now McDowell.
07:40High again there hoping to find the best but in fact it's Blythe who heads it away.
07:46Taylor.
07:50And Tommy Taylor beating John Hughes in the air.
07:53So West Ham now setting up another attack with Billy Bonds.
07:58McCormick getting there before Coker.
08:03Still Redknapp.
08:06Click with the outside of his boot towards Coker.
08:08But McCormick dispossessing him.
08:12Raven's gone on but stopped by Lampard.
08:15And now Brookings for West Ham.
08:20Best.
08:21Moore.
08:30Moore versus Craven.
08:31Moore versus Craven.
08:48Tommy Taylor but putting it straight to Goodwin there.
08:51Now Kellard.
08:54Played there for Craven.
08:56He swerved one there but body right behind it.
08:59From Craven.
09:00Rotea right behind it.
09:05Good bit of poison control there by the youngster and now it's Brookings set free there by Robson.
09:12And there's Redknapp going in.
09:14What a terrible mistake there in the Palace defence as Jackson and McCormick looked at each other and Redknapp very
09:21nearly nipped in for what could have been a second and killer goal.
09:24Bonds now letting one go and again they looked and waited and Robson was there very quickly.
09:31A nice little chip towards Billy Bunt and he scored a second one.
09:352-0 Billy Bonds and Crystal Palace defence was in ruins.
09:42Bonds as Robson chipped that little ball across and Bonds was there with his head.
09:54Bonds well pleased with his first league goal of the season.
09:56He scored one in the League Cup and West Ham two up with less than a quarter of an hour
10:00gone.
10:01Nice little chip by Robson.
10:04And Bonds making no mistake.
10:07Bonds.
10:07Bonds.
10:16Bobby Moore.
10:21To Lampard.
10:23Moore.
10:27Robson made a very good run there nodding it in and Bly getting a foot to it to get it
10:31away.
10:32Bobby Moore again for West Ham.
10:34This time Coker making the run and off the top of McCormick's head.
10:43Taylor judging it well.
10:45McDowell.
10:46To Moore.
10:49Moore presenting Tamling with that one.
10:51And now he's got to back away quickly onto Tamling's left foot.
10:54A good shot and a fine save again by Grotier.
10:59Good jinking run by Tamling with a fine shot off that famous left foot of his.
11:03Grotier equal to it and the mistake in the first place coming from Bobby Moore.
11:08In fact there was an infringement after Grotier had taken that ball.
11:15But it was Moore's error in the first place.
11:23Blythe back to Jackson.
11:26Firmly hit pass as well.
11:29Now Blythe.
11:32Hughes.
11:39Strong run there that's got to be challenged soon as Hughes goes on.
11:43Claims for handball and it was given.
11:47What a good run by Hughes.
11:48Gathering pace as he went.
11:52And now Crystal Palace with this free kick almost in a central position.
11:55And no more than six yards outside that West Ham penalty area.
12:00In fact perhaps four yards outside the area now.
12:06As you can see it's pretty central.
12:08Grotier straining to get a view of it.
12:12Five men in the wall.
12:14Kellard also as you can see there.
12:17And a good shot and a good tip over by Grotier from Craven.
12:24Good deceptive free kick that from Craven.
12:27And Grotier really is doing all that's been asked of him.
12:29Coming in at the last moment into this side when Bobby Ferguson was unfit.
12:34Craven who scored one tremendous goal here in the league cup against Aston Villa.
12:38And that's the sort of thing that Palace badly need him to repeat now.
12:42Kellard with the corner.
12:43And Moore.
12:45And Robson to get it away.
12:47Best to chase it out.
12:55Robson.
12:58Bonds.
13:06Well that in fact bottled just as Bonds hit it.
13:09But it didn't deter him too much.
13:11That was a good ground shot.
13:12No more than a yard or so wide.
13:18But John Jackson must be agonising to be a skipper in goal.
13:21Because there's not much you can do when it comes out onto the field to retrieve two goals down.
13:29And now Kellard.
13:31And now Kellard.
13:34Billy Bonds.
13:36To Bobby Moore.
13:41And now Lampard.
13:47Blythe knowing full well that he's got to stay close to Best.
13:52Taking possession now.
13:54And finding Peter Wall.
14:01Bobby Tamlin.
14:04To John Hughes.
14:06Now Hughes.
14:07Now Hughes going on and he's got to be stopped.
14:10And Goodwin couldn't quite reach it.
14:11But a good piece of play by John Hughes that'll do his morale a bit of good.
14:18Redknapp.
14:21McDowell.
14:21And Bonds.
14:34Kellard finding Taylor.
14:38Kellard again.
14:39Taylor.
14:41Robson.
14:44McDowell beaten there in the challenge by Goodwin.
14:48Still Sammy Goodwin.
14:50Finding John Hughes.
14:55Hughes doing very well indeed.
14:57Turned it back.
14:57Did all that he had to do.
14:58But Brookings was there a fraction before play.
15:02So one or two good little moves now from John Hughes.
15:06Very quiet first 20 minutes or so in front of the Crystal Palace crowd for the first time.
15:11There's a good run by Tony Taylor as well.
15:13And just past that post.
15:15Deflection off a West Ham defender.
15:17But a good run by this fellow Tony Taylor.
15:20He's spent a fair bit of the game so far in a midfield defensive position.
15:27Good deep one.
15:28Grotia going for it.
15:30Good fist away though by Grotia.
15:33Best.
15:47Best laid off nicely there for Brookings.
15:55But Brookings eventually beaten by the Tigerish Kellard.
16:00And now Goodwin.
16:01Kellard again.
16:02Trying to whip up this Palace side there.
16:04And the ball now for Craven.
16:06Can he hit that first time?
16:11They're still whacking in their shots Crystal Palace and all the time they do that there must be a chance
16:16for them.
16:18Birdhead I would think a little anxious debuting on the right.
16:30And McCormick to turn it into touch for a West Ham throw.
16:34Five minutes to go to half time.
16:36West Ham leading by two goals to nil.
16:37Scored in the first 15 minutes of the game by Coker and by Bonds.
16:42Redknapp with the throw.
16:44Coker.
16:49The Sun obviously worrying players kicking from right to left at the moment West Ham.
16:53Next half of course it'll be a problem for Crystal Palace.
16:58Certainly for their defenders in any case.
17:00The forwards of Crystal Palace suffering the same sort of thing as they look for the ball.
17:09So Jackson now to make the clearance.
17:14Craven to win it in the air to flick it on there for Payne.
17:16But Moore again sticking out that very experienced foot to turn it away into touch.
17:24Kellogg.
17:25Payne.
17:28Kellogg.
17:31Taylor had again gone forward and Goodwin was right in there too.
17:34Craven right in there also for Crystal Palace.
17:35Tony Taylor now.
17:38And Goodwin with a shot.
17:44Sammy Goodwin.
17:45Two very good shots from him in this game.
17:47Not so far away with that one.
17:50Coker chasing it but McCormick's more experienced head knowing just where that ball was going to fall.
17:55Now Goodwin.
17:56But Bonds sliding into the challenge.
17:58Redknapp dancing around and McDowell.
18:02Bobby Moore.
18:06Lampard.
18:07Plenty of room down that left for Lampard now.
18:10Tamblyn coming back to cover him as you can see.
18:14Robson.
18:16Lampard.
18:18Played first time there towards Clyde Vest.
18:20Vest was hoping to turn it back again but miscued.
18:23Peter Ward.
18:29McDowell.
18:32Redknapp.
18:38McDowell.
18:43And Moore.
18:47Bonds.
18:48McDowell.
18:51Vest will go for this one but that was always Jackson's ball.
18:58John Craven.
18:59Put Bobby Moore in very quickly to whip up West Ham a little bit now.
19:02Clyde Vest.
19:05Again Mel Blythe is with him.
19:07Bobby Moore.
19:09Might have a go himself.
19:11And that's not a bad one.
19:14Good shot there by Moore.
19:17Beautifully struck and well caught by Jackson.
19:19As the whistle goes for the end of the first half.
19:23With goals by Addy Coker.
19:25The 17 year old making his first appearance for West Ham.
19:28And by Billy Bonds.
19:30His first league goal of the season.
19:32Together giving West Ham a lead that they certainly deserve at the end of the first fight.
19:36For the first 45 minutes.
19:38Still a lot more for you to enjoy.
19:40Coming up your way on the big match this afternoon.
19:42But the half time score here at Selhurst Park.
19:45Is Crystal Palace 0.
19:47West Ham United 2.
19:48And we'll be back with you in a couple of minutes.
20:02So manager Burt Head of Crystal Palace has said what he would do.
20:05He's brought on Willie Wallace the substitute.
20:08Another Scottish international.
20:09For this second half.
20:10With John Hughes having gone off.
20:13He'd said that he wanted Hughes to burn himself out.
20:16After 45 minutes to give Wallace the chance to come on and do likewise in the second half.
20:20Well Wallace has got a lot of burning to do now.
20:23As we line up for the start of the second half.
20:25And Palace two goals.
20:26Or rather Palace two goals behind.
20:35So Palace then get us away at the start of the second half.
20:38With plenty still to do.
20:40But it's Brooking now for West Ham.
20:44Robson.
20:46Brooking.
20:50Moore.
20:54And Taylor to McDowell.
21:01Redknapp in very quickly.
21:02Controlling it well there for West Ham.
21:04Taylor still hard after him though.
21:08Coker.
21:12And McCormick taking no chances.
21:14But West Ham's throw.
21:18And Bonds to take it.
21:23McCormick again sticking out that long foot there to beat Coker.
21:28Tambling now for Crystal Palace.
21:35Taylor back.
21:36To Bobby Moore.
21:37To Grotia.
21:51Lampard to take the West Ham throw.
21:55Brooking.
21:58Moore.
22:05Now McDowell.
22:11Taylor.
22:12Bonds.
22:16Moore.
22:21Best.
22:25And off the head of Craven for West Ham's throw.
22:34Now a free kick given.
22:35And Lampard taking it quickly.
22:37Off the referee.
22:38And falling for John Craven.
22:44Over to get Tony Taylor away.
22:46And he's made one of those characteristic bursts of his from the back.
22:50But now they're with him.
22:51And Taylor getting it across well.
22:52But now Goodwin to hit one and he didn't hit it at all properly.
22:57Lampard a little flick with the outside of his boot to Brookie.
23:01Best away over on his left.
23:02Redknapp coming into the middle.
23:05Clyde Best.
23:09Best certainly well aware of the fact that he's got to move quickly every time he gets possession.
23:13Because Blythe is always so close to him.
23:16Now Craven.
23:17To Payne.
23:19Brookie again.
23:24Flicked again for Coker.
23:27McCormick with him.
23:29Oh, look at those beautiful skills there by Coker.
23:33My goodness.
23:34That was some tremendous stuff.
23:35And there was a bit of pulling there by McCormick.
23:38On the young Nigerian.
23:40But they were really the most slippery skills.
23:44And you would think performed by a man who spent all his life in the first division.
23:48Instead of something like 46 minutes.
24:00Now he's calling McCormick, the referee, over to...
24:05Have words.
24:09And I think he's making perfectly clear that if McCormick answers back again,
24:13then he could really be in serious trouble as he pointed there towards the dressing room.
24:16Keith Walker, the referee.
24:17Bobby Moore with the kick.
24:18Clyde Best is waiting.
24:20In fact, it won't quite reach Clyde Best because Blythe lifts himself.
24:24Lampard to hit it.
24:27Taylor.
24:28To Moore.
24:31Oh, Moore putting it straight to Willie Wallace.
24:35Man who's played in two European Cup finals for Celtic.
24:38A lot of experience.
24:40And causing Grotia to get down there at the near post.
24:42If Grotia had strayed from that near post,
24:44then he could certainly have been in trouble there from Willie Wallace.
24:55Tony Taylor.
24:57Tommy Taylor.
25:01McDowell.
25:04Coker again.
25:05McCormick right there with him.
25:06The ball coming last off Coker.
25:08But in fact, the throw is given to West Ham and it should have been to Crystal Palace.
25:19McCormick.
25:21Wallace.
25:23And now Lampard.
25:30For Brooking.
25:32The cross there towards Coker again.
25:34But again, Blythe is there for Crystal Palace.
25:37Robson now for West Ham.
25:40They've got a space there, but he took it away from it.
25:42But he's found Bonds.
25:48Taylor doggedly trying to stay with Billy Bonds.
25:51Bonds a little cross.
25:52And Clyde Best to go.
25:55Number three, Clyde Best.
25:59Jackson is, I suppose, furious with the defence around him.
26:03But a good dogged run there by Billy Bonds and a neat little chip and Clyde Best on the spot
26:10to make it count.
26:14So West Ham then three ahead after 21 minutes of the second half.
26:21Billy Bonds, who really takes some stopping when he's got a mind to it.
26:24And he had a mind to it down by that byline.
26:29So Clyde Best gets into double figures this season.
26:32That was his tenth goal.
26:40Craven.
26:42Payne.
26:43And Craven.
26:44Rookie.
26:46A little bit of flailing going on there.
26:55And the ball finally coming out for Crystal Palace and Mel Blythe.
26:58Kellard.
27:01Now Peter Wall.
27:07Taylor up ahead of...
27:09Bobby Kellard.
27:12Looks like he must have fallen very awkwardly.
27:20And there's Koker again.
27:22My goodness, he got in well there.
27:24A fraction ahead of all those defenders, including McCormick.
27:28But that time right into the arms of John Jackson.
27:31What a superb piece of quick thinking by the 17-year-old Nigerian Adi Koker.
27:37Lampard.
27:41Best.
27:42Brookie.
27:43Best again.
27:44More.
27:48Clyde Best.
27:51Blythe again getting the better of Young Best.
27:55Craven.
27:56To Kellard.
27:59Swept there for Taylor in full stride.
28:01Bond's going with him.
28:08Taylor again.
28:09This time inside for Sammy Goodwin.
28:11But the ball to Kellard was never on.
28:13Spotted straight away by McDowell.
28:31Coker again coming away swiftly from McCormick, finding just enough room to find Bobby Moore.
28:36That was a good piece of play.
28:37That was a good piece of play again by Koker.
28:38And now Robson.
28:39Can he make this number four?
28:40No.
28:40Good work by Jackson there.
28:42Turn again.
28:43Good work by Jackson once more.
28:47Good shift break by West Ham.
28:50Robson on the end of it.
28:52Jackson doing extremely well for Palace.
28:56Willie Wallace.
29:03In fact, we're now in what you might call injury time, although there have been no injuries.
29:08Time that I suppose the referee's added on for a little bit of time wasting.
29:10Perhaps Taylor putting it across and McDowell nodding it away.
29:14McCormick putting it in once more.
29:17And this time Grotia.
29:23Referee's now had a signal from both linesmen that the time is up.
29:30Certainly well up now for Crystal Palace.
29:32These three goals down.
29:36So Palace will continue this record of never having beaten a London side in the first division since they came
29:43up.
29:54Whistles from the crowd, prompts the referee to look at his whistle.
29:56Keith Walker blows that final whistle and West Ham have won it with a goal in the second half by
30:02Clyde Best.
30:03To add to the goals in the first half by Billy Bonds and young Adi Koker playing his first game
30:09in league football.
30:10So a convincing victory there for West Ham that I think even the most rabid Crystal Palace supporters wouldn't deny
30:18them.
30:18With a final scoreline which says Crystal Palace nil, West Ham United three.
30:34Well certainly Palace fought hard enough but I suppose everybody would agree that they were well beaten in the end.
30:39And still to come for you to enjoy on the programme today we have highlights of Newcastle against Everton
30:43and Nottingham Forest against Derby County.
30:45Both those games in fact including quite remarkable goals.
30:48But what about this young 17 year old Adi Koker from Nigeria?
30:52What a wonderful first appearance the young lad had.
30:54And after the game at Selhurst Park yesterday I spoke to Geoff Hurst who was kept out by injury
30:58and asked him how the boy had reacted to the news that he was playing in the first division.
31:04He was told about two o'clock when the team was announced because it was more or less a from
31:08with Trevor and I not being certain.
31:10And he looks like he's seen a ghost actually.
31:12He sat there in disbelief for about ten minutes with his eyes wide open and aghast really.
31:17It was rather funny.
31:18The first thing that he really did in the match of course was score a goal.
31:21Yeah, a tremendous start to your league career really after about three or four minutes wasn't it?
31:24What did you think of his goal?
31:26Very well.
31:26He's very very quick and he took the goal very quickly of course.
31:29It just bounced once I think.
31:30I can't really remember much about it but he took it very quick in a crowded area.
31:33And he's obviously got a lot of very good touches indeed.
31:36Oh, tremendous skill.
31:37He's very very sharp.
31:38Very very sharp.
31:39What about West Ham now?
31:40That's what one defeat only now in about 17 games and you look like it.
31:43Something like that.
31:44Yes, we played fairly well again and I think we're playing consistently as consistently as since I've been at the
31:50club in the last ten years.
31:5216, 17 games with one defeat is the best we've ever played I think.
31:55If you had to put your finger on anything that has happened this season that has got you going that
31:59failed last season what would that be?
32:02No one thing.
32:02I think it's a million small things everybody's settling down in their positions, players playing as well as they've played
32:07in themselves.
32:09It's lots and lots of little things I think.
32:11It says so much of course that you can take players like Bobby Ferguson yourself out of the side and
32:16really with great respect hardly notice.
32:17Sure, not at all.
32:18I didn't notice a bit.
32:20I think if you're going to have any sort of success you've got to beat sides that are not doing
32:24particularly well.
32:25They're having the sort of run that we were having last year and not doing particularly well.
32:27I think if you want to have any sort of success you've got to beat these sides that are struggling
32:31a little bit.
32:33Geoff Hurst, now let's go across to Jimmy Hill for a more detailed look at young Addy Coker and the
32:37game in general.
32:38In fact a lot of Crystal Palace fans were saying the game could have been so different yesterday if they
32:42hadn't made such a bad start.
32:43Addy Coker of course got that brilliant goal but let's look at the second one because they said there may
32:47have been a touch of offside about that.
32:49It was a good well won goal and a beautiful header by Billy Bonds but was he in an offside
32:54position when the ball was crossed?
32:56Robson comes in there and wins a tackle very well.
32:59Look at the defender now on the right of your screen.
33:02Is he passed or is he not up to Billy Bonds who's in the centre there and heads it beautifully
33:07into the corner?
33:08John Jackson has got no doubt.
33:10He says offside but the linesman was right on the spot and judged it to be a fair goal.
33:14The referee Keith Walker I thought had an excellent game yesterday.
33:17He kept the play flowing throughout and I think that was appreciated by the players and by the crowd.
33:22But the star of the day was Addy Coker.
33:24I heard about him coming to the ground in a car on the radio but I didn't know I was
33:29going to see the skills that we saw from this young man.
33:32First of all an extraordinary one.
33:34A chest trap there and a swivel cross.
33:36Played first time right into the six yard box.
33:38Extremely dangerous.
33:39But it was his simple football that really took the eye.
33:42Here he moves to the near post.
33:44Lays it off and runs again into a new position.
33:48Making that space for Robson to go in.
33:50He's not a tall player but he's good in the air.
33:52Got plenty of spring.
33:53He beats McCormick here.
33:55Not all that much power in the header but nevertheless he's up there first.
33:59And finally the moment that startled and entertained everyone.
34:03On an English football league ground just look at this.
34:07Beautiful skills there by Coker.
34:11My goodness that was a tremendous start.
34:12Well you can talk about Best.
34:14You can talk about Pelle.
34:15The name there is Coker.
34:17And I thoroughly enjoyed his display yesterday.
34:19And I think even the Crystal Palace fans like seeing him for the first time.
34:22What about West Ham?
34:23Last year they went through their struggles.
34:25And I think from the big match a word of congratulations is due to Ron Greenwood and all of the
34:29West Ham players.
34:30From the way in which they've really turned fate.
34:32They've got their confidence back again and they're a delight to watch.
34:35And I think we can leave them happily going up towards the top of the table.
34:40Crystal Palace, it's another matter.
34:41They've got their worries.
34:43Burt Head more than anybody knew that a few weeks ago when on this programme we said we didn't think
34:47they had much chance of staying in the first division.
34:49That they were dicing with death.
34:51And it's going to be a dice with death from now until the end of the season.
34:54There were players who were thrown into the side in the last two or three weeks who looked at times
35:00as if they didn't know what each other were doing.
35:02But nevertheless that could be solved over the next few weeks and in the next matches, hard as they may
35:07be.
35:07But I do agree that the game could have been so different.
35:10It was won in the first 14 minutes.
35:12But also in the first 14 minutes things were happening at the other end of the field.
35:16And another understudy, Peter Grottier, came in and made sure that West Ham were going to win that match.
35:22Here he saves the first shot.
35:25There's Goodwin.
35:26One of the new signs.
35:26He's a fierce shot there.
35:28And the sign of a good goalkeeper.
35:29He recovers.
35:30He hasn't held it.
35:31But he's up again and snatches it to his chest.
35:35And now from Bobby Tamling, that favourite left foot, once again up into that corner.
35:40He gets across, captures it again.
35:42And finally from Craven.
35:44There was a lot of power in that foot.
35:46Under the crossbar and over the top.
35:48That was Peter Grottier.
35:49It was understudy's day, we can say, yesterday.
35:52Coker and Grottier.
35:53But Crystal Palace wouldn't be expected to appreciate that.
35:56What is the best sign of hope for Palace?
35:58I think it's in Bobby Kellard.
36:00An experienced, mature player who fought like a tiger in the middle of the field to get them in the
36:04game even when they were out of it.
36:06I'm not saying they're going to stay up even now.
36:09But I'm saying there is some hope.
36:12Well, after that, let's have some more action.
36:14And this time it comes from Goodison Park, where Everton, yesterday, were at home to Newcastle.
36:18Remember, they've just signed £150,000 worth of Tony Green from Blackpool.
36:22The pictures come from Granada.
36:23The commentator is Gerald Sinstadt.
36:26And Everton are the team in the dark shirts.
36:29Newton.
36:34Harvey.
36:36Morrissey.
36:39Good cross, but headed away by Burton.
36:41Helped on by Green.
36:43And now it's Everton's.
36:45McLaughlin.
36:48Royal.
36:50And his ball!
36:53Not given.
36:54Offside.
36:58Offside.
36:59Offside.
37:05Ball.
37:08Given room to turn and uses the ball well, so McFaul has the punch.
37:12Newton.
37:13And McFaul is on it again.
37:16Henry Newton shot.
37:23Pivot.
37:25Pivot.
37:25Pivot.
37:26Pivot.
37:26Pivot.
37:27Pivot.
37:27Pivot.
37:29Pivot.
37:29Pivot.
37:29Pivot.
37:30Pivot.
37:35Pivot against the bucket.
37:39And a blatant foul there on Morrissey.
37:44Shirt half removed from his back.
37:47And that's going to be a booking.
37:50Ray Ellison going into the book for a deliberate foul.
37:57Only his fifth league game and his seventh appearance in the first team.
38:03Ray Ellison goes into the book.
38:08Terry Hibbert.
38:14First.
38:23Burton.
38:25Green.
38:28Just slipped on that dicey top surface.
38:33And Howard a bit too casual there.
38:34Let ball in.
38:35And he's got it!
38:49And there I suppose you have one of the happiest sights of the season really.
38:52Both for Everton and for England as well.
38:54Alan Ball so firmly back in business.
39:06Let's have some more action now and we go into the Midlands for it.
39:10Between two teams at top and bottom.
39:12Forest who are struggling so close to the bottom.
39:14Derby challenging towards the top.
39:15Pictures from ATV.
39:16Commentator Hugh Johns.
39:18Derby County in white.
39:19Attacking the goal on your left.
39:22Attacking it immediately through Archie Gummell at this moment.
39:25The man who did so much damage to Forest last season here in this fixture.
39:30Eric Hume, the new goalkeeper.
39:32The new boy in the side.
39:38Good touch on there.
39:39Here's Buckley.
39:40Looking this side for Lyons.
39:43Forest attacking the goal on the right.
39:45The dark red shirts and the white shorts.
39:47Buckley did well.
39:48Lyons across into an empty goal now.
39:51McFarlane off the line and Todd gives away the corner.
39:54What a beautiful bit of attacking there.
39:56Cool thinking then by Young Buckley.
39:59Lyons planting that ball into what was virtually an empty net.
40:03And McFarlane the savior of his side.
40:08Here's the corner for Forest.
40:11And Ian Moore getting a touch.
40:16Ian Moore, the man who really gets the goals for this Forest side.
40:21Oh, picking up John McGovern.
40:25O'Hare.
40:25Little touch for Hector.
40:27O'Hare again.
40:27The touch for Hector.
40:29Just wide, our right hand post.
40:31But there, a beautiful interchanging movement then.
40:34Between Kevin Hector and John O'Hare.
40:35There's Kevin Hector.
40:38Richardson.
40:40McKenzie got a touch.
40:42Todd got it over the line and appealed for a penalty.
40:45Ronald wasn't a very half-hearted.
40:46Well, far farther to keep it anyway.
40:51Richardson as the white shirts of Derby congregate their own penalty area.
40:59Richardson's corner then.
41:03Moore trying it.
41:05Robson got up high.
41:06Fraser back for Richardson again.
41:09Moore.
41:10And a goalie.
41:12Good header for Ian Moore.
41:14Good save then by Colin Bolton.
41:16Well, Robertson started one attack off.
41:18Now another one.
41:19Buckley.
41:20And he's overrun it.
41:22Easy tidy-up job for Todd.
41:26For Robertson getting very well involved in the game.
41:29Here's McKenzie now for Forest.
41:31The number two as Webster McKenzie has done too much.
41:35And a penalty's given.
41:37The penalty's given.
41:40McKenzie tumbled down when I thought that he perhaps tackled more than he could bite off for himself.
41:45And a penalty it is.
41:46And it's a dead cert that Ian Moore will take it.
41:50The scorer off three penalties already and his nine league goals this season.
41:57101 league goals are to his credit.
42:00So if you stick a nought between the two ones on his back, that's the total of league goals he
42:03scored already.
42:05We're now looking for goal number 102 from Ian Moore.
42:10And he didn't get it.
42:135-2 casual shot.
42:15A fine middle anticipation from Colin Bolton.
42:24A great save from McFarlane by Eric Hulme.
42:29But pushing in the box already would have knocked it off if the ball had gone in the net.
42:39Free kick given.
42:50McKenzie up.
42:51The cane again.
42:56Oh, what a deep ball.
43:00Robleton laying it off for Fraser.
43:02Moore.
43:04And Webster's all right.
43:07And so's Hector.
43:09Fabulous ball for Hector.
43:10And he's overrun it.
43:13Hindley bundling down Hector eventually.
43:15Fair play, but the goal kick is given.
43:27Farland as far as McGovern.
43:31Picking up Ruxom.
43:42John McGovern.
43:44Waiting for somebody to come close.
43:46And inevitably it's O'Hare.
43:50McGovern faced by O'Kane with Hindley in support.
43:55McGovern there.
43:57And it's Hinton.
43:58That's handled off the line by Chapman.
44:01Handled off the line by Chapman.
44:04Hinton's header.
44:06Hinton's shot.
44:07Beating the goalkeeper.
44:09But I said earlier that Ian Moore was a dead shot from the penalty spot.
44:15But I could say the same thing about Hinton.
44:18He knows what he's doing.
44:19But we'll see now whether he puts Darby into the lead.
44:24He did.
44:28It's 1-0 then to Darby Carty with a penalty kick.
44:35And Justice well done.
44:38And Hindley taking it over.
44:40Going hard and going well.
44:43Hindley leading the attack.
44:45Might try one.
44:46He does!
44:48And very nearly squeezed one past this goalkeeper.
44:51Into space.
44:53But no red shirt in there.
44:55The white shirt there is Robson.
44:57Steaming away all on his own.
45:00Could try one here certainly.
45:02And he scores!
45:04What a goal!
45:08John Robson.
45:10His first league goal of the season.
45:13And it's 2-0 Darby now.
45:16And a victory that in fact puts Darby County now 2nd in the 1st Division.
45:20That's it.
45:20Hope you've enjoyed it.
45:21We leave you with a goal that I suppose could be the start of something big in general for West
45:25Ham.
45:26In particular for 17-year-old Addy Coker.
45:30The corner coming up and Bond's going for it.
45:33And Coker!
45:34He scored!
45:35The young lad, 17, playing in his first game.
45:397 minutes gone.
45:41And a rocket-like shot that gave Jackson no chance.
45:45What a start for him!
45:46Delighted!
45:52What a smile!
45:54From young Addy Coker as he really bumped that ball!
46:01And a
46:06children and a
46:07star
46:07an
46:07a
