00:04Hello and welcome to the Hearts of Iron 4 beginner tutorial. Today we will cover constructions, a vital part of
00:11building up your nation and preparing for the harsh times ahead. For this we will be looking at the foundation
00:16of the Allies, Great Britain.
00:19First we will look closely at the map itself. The world is divided into states, which themselves contain individual provinces.
00:26Both states and provinces will house particular constructions. For example, this state of Essex contains various factories and infrastructure. Yet
00:35the province of Dover is home to coastal fortifications and naval bases in that particular province.
01:06Opening up the construction tab, we will look at all the different types of buildings we have available to build.
01:13Infrastructure will improve supply and unit speed in a state.
01:17Air bases allow the deployment of aircraft from that state. Anti-air will lower the bomber damage, the organisation and
01:26equipment of paratroopers and shoot down enemy planes on bombing missions. Radar will allow for better air detection.
01:36Military factories are required for equipment. Civilian factories are required for both trading and building other constructions. Naval dockyards are
01:52required for producing ships.
01:55Oil refineries will produce oil and rubber in that state. So consider this if you will be producing vehicles.
02:03These buildings are all built on a state level. So we can, for example, build up the infrastructure in the
02:09Scottish states and add anti-air to Gloucestershire.
02:12Whilst adding a couple of military factories in Northern England and oil refineries in Northern Ireland.
02:20These are all buildings for their states.
02:33If we turn our attention to the remaining constructions, we have naval bases for housing ships, forts for protecting against
02:42land attacks and coastal forts for protecting against naval invasions.
02:46These are all built in individual provinces and give their effect in that province only.
03:06Constructions which you have queued up can be shifted in priority and deleted at will, with the constructions at the
03:12top being the highest priority and will be built first.
03:16Each building requires a certain amount of civilian factory output to be built.
03:21The more civilian factories you have, the faster constructions will be completed.
03:25Each construction can have up to 15 factories assigned to them, and there are various modifiers to the construction speed
03:31available in the game.
03:34At the top left, we will see how many factories we have available for performing these constructions, although depending on
03:40laws and trade agreements, not all your factories will likely be used for construction.
03:45Finally, there is an option to convert civilian factories to military factories and vice versa.
03:50This is faster than constructing a factory from scratch, so if you find you need to focus on producing military
03:55equipment more than anything else, it may be preferable to convert your existing civilian factories.
04:01The opposite can be true too.
04:03Simply click on the factories on the map to convert them.
04:07How you choose to build up your nation's factories and defences will have a profound impact upon your nation.
04:12There will not be time and resources to build everything everywhere, so focus on what is important for your grand
04:17goals.
04:18Building civilian factories early will allow more flexibility down the line for both constructions and trading, whilst having plenty of
04:24military factories will allow greater equipment production.
04:28Adequate defences should also be considered, especially in vital areas and choke points.
04:33In the end, your nation's constructions are yours to decide.
04:36Choose carefully what to build, so that your nation can weather the approaching world war.
