00:00NCRHA Chairman Dr. Tim Gopi Singh tells TV6 News Mr. Rivera is not the only patient who has been awaiting
00:07kidney stent removal for years.
00:10However, he says the wait is now over.
00:14The laser machine with the little triptor went down during the last administration.
00:20And these patients were transferred to Arima Hospital where there was a functioning little triptor with a laser.
00:27Since we came in, we ensured that the machine is functional now at Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
00:34So all those patients who have been referred to Arima are being dealt with now.
00:39Dr. Gopi Singh says other critical machinery have been repaired under this government.
00:45And so patients can expect much shorter wait times.
00:49So many other machines had been left undone.
00:53One fluoroscopic machine, one CT scanner had been done.
00:58The MRI was giving trouble.
00:59So we had to deal with a number of these cases.
01:02So we're now doing about 40 CT cases per week.
01:06We have done over 45,000 CT examinations per year, about 4,500 MRI, about 5 million blood investigations.
01:19And in one week recently we did 102 surgical cases.
01:23So things are improving fast.
01:27The accident and emergency department is also receiving attention.
01:31Working feverishly to provide more beds and more spaces in the hospital to prevent the overflows of accident and emergency.
01:41And we are now fully staffed the accident and emergency with consultant doctors, registrars, house officers.
01:49Focus is also being placed on the Arima Health District.
01:53We are in the process of trying now to open the Arima District Health Facility to move the accident and
02:02emergency to the main hospital.
02:04And we are going to shortly start some major day care surgery, day surgery at Arima Hospital as well.
02:12So things are moving fast and smoothly with the support of all members of staff, doctors, nurses and paramedical professionals.
02:21Renasa Cutting, TV6 News.
