00:00For a little thing, I sure have to use a big bowl.
00:03Last time, we saw a big...
00:04It's a big challenge. It's go big or go home.
00:06And small desserts.
00:08Those macarons are better than mine.
00:10Leah and Kira took the top spot.
00:13It's a lot of peppermint.
00:15And Jovi and Lenore said goodbye.
00:18I'm sorry.
00:18Now, this challenge will determine who makes it into the finale.
00:23I want to make it to the finale more than I wanted to make it to the semifinal.
00:27Obviously.
00:37What is this tennis ball?
00:39What is that?
00:42What is that?
00:43We walk into the kitchen.
00:44Cartier is holding a plate with a slice of toast.
00:48Duff is holding a protein shake.
00:50And there is a TV type thing there.
00:54If we had to make protein shakes,
00:56I make like a protein shake for myself every single day.
00:58I would crush that.
01:00Hey, you guys.
01:01Welcome to the semifinals.
01:06Congratulations.
01:07Can you believe you made it this far?
01:10No.
01:11We are in the semifinals and this is the most important week in the competition so far.
01:16We've baked our hearts out and I hope, I hope we make it to the finals.
01:23Hey, can you guys guess what I am?
01:26A protein shake.
01:27Water?
01:27A baker.
01:28I'm a baker with a shaker.
01:30Oh.
01:32And what do you guys think that makes me?
01:34I don't rhyme very well.
01:36I'm a host with toast.
01:37Oh.
01:41I'm the cat in the hat.
01:44My job is lifting kids up when they're feeling down.
01:48And to help me help others, I've got a bunch of new helpers.
01:51You guys.
01:54Okay.
01:55Bye.
01:59Take a look.
02:01Woo-hoo.
02:03Welcome back to the Institute, the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC.
02:07Hey, crap with a crap.
02:09Kicking a wig.
02:10Hi, bugging a mug.
02:12Jack with a pack.
02:14We're on.
02:16Today is going to be the best day ever.
02:26Go to the montage.
02:29Whoa.
02:30That's crazy.
02:32That was crazy.
02:33I want to watch that.
02:33That sneak peek was from the cat in the hat movie coming to theaters soon.
02:37In the film, the cat in the hat brings joy to as many children as possible.
02:43Yeah.
02:44With the help of some animal co-workers at the Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration.
02:53There's pig in a wig, bug in a mug, yak with a pack, and giraffe with a carafe.
02:59So, for today's challenge, you will create your own animal helper.
03:04Think about what special way your character can bring joy to kids.
03:08Okay, I can do this.
03:09And don't forget, your critter needs to have a fun rhyming name.
03:15All right, teams.
03:16We are giving you two and a half hours to make a cat in the hat helper dessert that's a
03:21sweet treat and fun to eat.
03:24And your baking time starts...
03:28Now!
03:31Okay, so I think we should do, like, a frog on, um, like, a lollipop.
03:36Oh, yeah, a frog on a lollipop.
03:37So, I think we should do Yeti with confetti.
03:40That's cute.
03:41Yeti with confetti.
03:41That is kind of cute.
03:43Let's do our caramel apple pie.
03:45Okay.
03:46We should do leave a bee with a key.
03:48What do you think we should do for the decoration for the bees and stuff?
03:51Pondant.
03:51What do we do for the key?
03:53Snake with a wig.
03:54Okay, well, cheesecake.
03:56Like a no-bake cheesecake.
03:57What about, like, cream puffs?
03:59And then, like, a cream puff snake on top.
04:00Today's challenge is inspired by the new Cat in the Hat movie.
04:05Uh, this is really cool.
04:06We have to create our own animal helper inspired by Cat in the Hat's helpers.
04:11If we're going to get all of this done, it has to be fast and it has to be good.
04:15We are doing Snake with a Rake.
04:18The Snake with a Rake helps people with their gardens because a lot of people don't know how to garden
04:24and don't have the right resources.
04:25We are making a lemon cheesecake with raspberry-filled cream puffs arranged like a snake,
04:32and then it's going to be decorated like a garden.
04:34I love snakes.
04:35I think they're so cool.
04:36Our grandma's deathly terrified of them.
04:38I don't really like them.
04:40But, you know, on the other hand, they're pretty cool.
04:43Kenny, do you think this looks good?
04:45Um, oh, yeah.
04:45I'm doing a no-bake cheesecake, just FYI.
04:48Got it.
04:49I want to do a no-bake cheesecake because I think it's much lighter than a baked cheesecake.
04:54You can move a bit, please.
04:56And also, to have a baked cheesecake bake for a long time, cool down, just making sure that there's enough
05:00time.
05:01I'm stealing all the cream cheese, so I'm sorry if you need any.
05:03Wait, guys, no, we don't need none.
05:04What are you guys making?
05:05Uh, cheesecake.
05:06No.
05:06To make the filling, I beat together cream cheese, sour cream, and powdered sugar,
05:11and then I add in lemon juice, lemon extract, and some lemon zest.
05:18Good.
05:18Lemon.
05:19Beat heavy cream until it has stiff peaks with the gelatin,
05:22and then fold the cream cheese mixture and the whipped cream mixture together.
05:26I do make cheesecake for my mom.
05:28That's her favorite dessert, just New York-style cheesecake.
05:32I mostly make sugar-free ones.
05:35And I make it once a year for her birthday.
05:38Yes!
05:39We made it this far in the competition that to make it to the finale and lose,
05:45or even lose in the semifinals is just so disappointing because we made it all the way here and somebody
05:52else wins,
05:52but we worked just as much as they did.
05:55All right, Duff, so what would be a fun few, like, helping powers that the animals could have,
06:03especially around the kitchen?
06:04I would do a snail with a pail, and he cleans up after you.
06:11Is this a pie plate?
06:13I got the flower mace.
06:15Do you guys know what you're making?
06:16Yeah, we're going to do a pie.
06:18A pie, and on top of that will be chocolate fondant frog.
06:21Our animal helper is Bob, who is a frog, who sits on a log,
06:26and the way he makes kids happy is when they have anger issues or problems
06:31and tells them how to get calmer.
06:35All right, so we need a bowl.
06:36Can you grab a mixing bowl?
06:38My special talent for bringing joy to people probably would be...
06:42Everybody says I'm very, like, encouraging.
06:45Hmm.
06:46And so if someone's just feeling down, I could lift them up.
06:51That's too big.
06:52Too big.
06:53Get, like, a glass one.
06:55Get a glass.
06:56My special talent to bring joy to people is art.
07:00You look at it and say, wow, this is amazing!
07:03Make it on the other hand and it looks right in just...
07:05Oh, that's good, okay.
07:06No, I don't.
07:07I like all your pie.
07:07Yes, you're going to say, oh, yeah, that's okay.
07:10All right, so we're going to make a cherry pie with a lattice crust,
07:14and then we're going to make a rice cereal treat log,
07:17and then we're going to do, like, a fondant frog.
07:21I make a lot of pies at home, and everybody loves to eat them,
07:25so I think that's why we want to do a pie.
07:27Now, this is shortening.
07:29The recipe that we always use and the recipe my mamma always use,
07:32you always use shortening instead of butter.
07:34I think the shortening definitely helps make it a nice, golden, flaky crust.
07:39Don't want to make it too thin.
07:42Awkward.
07:42We're going to cook our apples for a little this time.
07:44Just on the stove, you know, just mix it so it's not, like, too crunchy.
07:48We're doing bee with a key.
07:49So the key unlocks a door of joy and happiness,
07:53and so we're going to be making a caramel apple pecan pie,
07:57and we're going to be making our bee out of rice cereal treat,
08:01and then we're going to be making our key out of leftover pie dough.
08:06This is ice cold water.
08:08No.
08:09So bees are not my favorite insects at all.
08:14But bumblebees, I like bumblebees.
08:16They're really cute, and they don't try to sting people.
08:19We have Miss Sun Yvie because I run away every time I see them.
08:23So to make my crust in a food processor,
08:26I mix my flour, sugar, and salt.
08:29Then I add my chunks of butter and cold water
08:33until it forms dough-like consistency.
08:35Oh, hey, I see if this doesn't even fit in here.
08:38Once my crust is chilled, I crimp it and get it into my pan.
08:42I blind bake my pie crust
08:43because I want to make sure that it gets cooked all the way
08:47and doesn't stay underbaked when I put my filling in.
08:49The last time we made it, it was a little underbaked.
08:53Let's do ten minutes first.
08:55Hello, Genesis and Akbar.
08:59I'm still trying to make my way into this team.
09:01Okay, now, you're getting so close to the finale.
09:04Did you think you were going to make it this far?
09:05No.
09:06No, I thought we were going to eliminate it the first time.
09:08What? Why would you think that?
09:10You come all the way this far
09:12and you think you're going to get eliminated on the first day?
09:14The first time we were in the bottom two?
09:16Yeah.
09:16I thought that's when we were going to get eliminated or something.
09:18You always bounce back, right?
09:20Yes.
09:21And you actually won a challenge a couple of challenges ago, right?
09:24Yes.
09:24You all always end up doing well.
09:27So you've got to keep that spirit of positivity,
09:30positive thoughts, and bring the flavor.
09:32Yes.
09:32I don't even have to tell you all to bring the flavor.
09:34You know how to bring the flavor.
09:36Bring the looks with the flavor, too, okay?
09:38Okay.
09:38All right.
09:38Okay.
09:39We'll see B later.
09:40All right.
09:41Bye.
09:41Bye.
09:42It means a lot to me to have made it to the semifinals
09:45because we're really close to winning.
09:46If we won, I would use it for my business.
09:50I'm doing, like, cake pops right now,
09:52and I'm going to start doing, like, my cookies
09:54because it'd be like,
09:55oh, weren't you that person on TV?
09:56And it could, like, motivate people to want to buy from me.
09:59We want to win the money and the bragging rights.
10:0490 minutes left.
10:06Hey, bakers, who wants to make it into the finale?
10:08Me!
10:10Me!
10:11Excuse me.
10:12My gosh, Kira.
10:14So this is a really important challenge
10:16because this decides who is going to make it to the finale
10:19and who is not.
10:20There's a lot of pressure going on this one bake.
10:22For our animal helper, we're making a Yeti with confetti,
10:25and our Yeti helps bring joy to those who are sad.
10:30His confetti spreads joy.
10:32Celebration, joy.
10:33So we're making a coconut cupcake
10:35with a mango filling
10:37and, like, a coconut frosting.
10:39It's going to be a pull-away cupcake,
10:41and so we'll have, like, probably one Yeti in the middle,
10:44kind of, like, throwing confetti everywhere.
10:45Excuse me.
10:48Okay, this looks really nice.
10:50If we win it all,
10:51one idea we had was opening up a cat cafe.
10:54Since we both love animals,
10:56she loves animals a lot, too,
10:57so, like, that'd be the perfect mesh of our, like,
11:00loves together to, like, do baking on one side
11:03and cats on the other.
11:04Can you add, like, a half scoop more
11:05into all of them with a spoon?
11:06No, I think this is enough.
11:07No, seriously, we did more last time.
11:09We didn't use a big scoop, I feel like.
11:10No, this is the big scoop.
11:11No, that's a small scoop.
11:12There's a big scoop.
11:12There's a bigger scoop.
11:13I'm serious, Kira.
11:15At a half scoop more.
11:17I feel like the dynamic for both of us
11:19when working together,
11:20it's definitely, like, stressful.
11:22If we get eliminated,
11:23it would have been a fun experience
11:25that I would think I would be really sad.
11:27Yeah.
11:28So, with extra cupcakes
11:29that we are going to hopefully have,
11:31we're going to try and make some mountains with them
11:33and, like, frost over them
11:34so it looks like snowy mountains.
11:36Okay, open.
11:38Top, middle.
11:39Middle.
11:39Oh, not top.
11:41Okay.
11:42A cookie in the oven.
11:44So, I start making my mango filling
11:46by getting mango puree in a pot
11:48and then I use a little bit of sugar
11:50to make it a little sweeter
11:51and some cornstarch to kind of make it thicker
11:52and then I start on the mousse portion of it
11:55because this is a mango mousse.
11:56So, I get whipped cream,
11:57a little bit of white chocolate
11:59and some gelatin
11:59and I whip that up
12:01and then I add a mango mousse to it.
12:05Who wants to try fresh mango mousse?
12:07Me.
12:08I do.
12:09In case.
12:10If it needs more mango, tell me.
12:16It's good.
12:17It's good.
12:17I need more sugar or something.
12:18More sugar?
12:19Okay.
12:19I'll put that in my mango.
12:20I'm going to add fresh chunks of mango too
12:22because it's a filling.
12:23Okay, go ahead.
12:23I want it to be, like,
12:24Yeah, you should add both.
12:25Okay.
12:26There we go.
12:27Into the pot.
12:29Just put the heat on low.
12:30We just want it to start melting.
12:31Yeah.
12:32We just want it to start melting, basically.
12:34This, here, you can put this in the fridge.
12:42Macy, is this three?
12:43One, two, three.
12:46Are you sure that's three?
12:47Yeah, I'm pretty sure.
12:48Okay.
12:49Next, I need to start for a cherry filling.
12:51To make the filling,
12:52I just toss the cherries and the cornstarch and sugar
12:55and stick it in my pie plate.
12:57Since we all bake it together,
12:59like the pie dough and the filling,
13:01I'm hoping that all, like, the cherries
13:03and, like, the juice, like, will bake off.
13:05Oh, uh, can we put this in the bus tub?
13:07We actually...
13:08Oh, sorry.
13:09Here, we can put this in the bus tub.
13:11I can't do math now.
13:14I don't know how to do math.
13:15When you do, like, a lattice on it,
13:17you can, like, bake them white and red stripes
13:20so it's, like, the cat's in the hat's hats.
13:23Holy smokes.
13:24How?
13:25It looks like one of those picnic pies
13:27in, like, cartoons.
13:28Like, yeah.
13:29So now we're gonna take the scissors
13:31and cut the extra off.
13:32This bakes for, like, almost an hour.
13:34Do we have enough time?
13:35We have an hour and 15 minutes.
13:38Okay, we need to get our pie in the oven.
13:39We're gonna cover the edges
13:41so it, like, doesn't burn.
13:43This pie bakes for a long time.
13:45If we don't get this baked through,
13:47then it's not gonna be ready for the judges.
13:48We're running behind
13:50and I'm feeling pretty nervous.
13:51Yeah, I'm worried.
13:55You're making animal helpers
13:57that bring joy to kids.
13:59And have cute rhyming names
14:01like Cartier in a Partier.
14:03Hey!
14:04This challenge will determine
14:06who makes it into the finale.
14:09Sully's got a little messed up,
14:10but it's okay.
14:12Okay, we're gonna take the...
14:19I love the Cat in a Hat.
14:21Like, they were, like,
14:22some of my all-time favorite books.
14:24And so I'm really excited for this challenge.
14:26Okay, we're gonna take this off
14:28and we're going to bake the edges a little longer.
14:30That way, our edges get nice and golden brown.
14:33I want to make it to the finale
14:35really, really bad.
14:36I want to make it to the finale
14:37more than I wanted to make it
14:38to the semifinals.
14:40Obviously.
14:40If I won, I would probably
14:43just buy a 3-D printer,
14:47buy a couple other things that I want,
14:50and then maybe I'll put it
14:53in the stock market.
14:55For our animal helper,
14:58we'll be making patashoot
15:00because I really like patashoot.
15:02I want to give them something
15:04that will taste good
15:05rather than just a mouthful of fondant.
15:07I also think it will be very impressive
15:09to have two bags good
15:10instead of just one.
15:13There you go.
15:15I'm gonna start on the patashoot.
15:17So I just add sugar, butter, and water,
15:22cook it until all of the butter has melted.
15:24Then I add the flour and stir
15:27quite a while until I think
15:29all, most of the moisture has cooked out
15:32and it's not sticking to the edges of the pot.
15:35And I get out a hand mixer
15:36and beat in the eggs
15:38one by one
15:39and then let Abby pipe them.
15:42How's the patashoot?
15:43Good.
15:44Good.
15:55Go melt this down.
15:57You want to hear a joke?
15:58Yes.
15:59What is the bread's favorite song?
16:01What is the bread's favorite song?
16:03Yeah.
16:05I don't know.
16:06Loaf me tender.
16:08Loaf me tender.
16:11Huh?
16:12Wait, what?
16:14Loaf me tender.
16:17It's good.
16:18So I get my crust out of the oven
16:19after it's wine baked
16:21and it looks done.
16:22I just don't know
16:23if it's like super duper cooked
16:25but I think it's done.
16:27Actually, I can just slice them in half.
16:30No, no, no.
16:31Yeah, just to make them thinner, you know?
16:33Next, we're cooking our apple filling
16:36before we bake it
16:38because once you put it in the oven
16:40it kind of speeds up the process.
16:43There's more cinnamon and stuff?
16:45There's more sugar.
16:47You know, it's going to be caramel in there, man.
16:49I'm tossing my apple filling
16:51with cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar
16:54and lemon juice.
16:56So I'm going to cook my apples
16:57on the stove
16:58until it's like soft
17:01and when I taste them
17:02it's not super crunchy.
17:05Super smart
17:06that Genesis and Akbar
17:08are cooking their apples
17:09before they're putting them in their pot.
17:11I tell people to do it all the time.
17:14Yep.
17:14I like my apples to be a little mushy.
17:18I don't want crunchy apples in a pot.
17:20It just doesn't make any sense to me.
17:22Totally agree.
17:22Right?
17:23Totally agree.
17:24It's really tart.
17:26A little longer.
17:29Next, I need to start
17:30my caramel sauce
17:31by doing dry caramel first
17:33I'm going to just put my sugar into a pot
17:35and I wait for it
17:37until it turns a nice brown color
17:39and then whisk in my butter
17:41and add my heavy cream
17:43until it comes to the right consistency.
17:50Then toast some pecans crushed up
17:53and I add that into my filling as well.
17:57Put it down.
17:59Is it hot?
18:01Yes, it's hot.
18:03Then we do a lattice crust
18:04and brush it with egg wash
18:06then put it into the oven
18:07for 45 minutes.
18:09I'm a bee.
18:09This pie might get us to the finale.
18:12That means you're like
18:12the top three best bakers in the country.
18:15It's about that time.
18:16We want to prove that we're really good bakers
18:18and we can make it
18:19and we can win.
18:23Only one hour to go.
18:29Hey, what in the world?
18:32That's crazy.
18:34Make your best beast.
18:38Um, I think it needs a little more color.
18:41Our pie is in the oven
18:42so while Emma's working on the log
18:45I'm going to start making this frog.
18:46Okay, so now we're going to put the head on
18:48to make an even bigger body.
18:52We want this to be a big frog on a log.
18:54To make the frog
18:55I'm using green fondant
18:56for the body of the frog
18:57and for details
18:58I'll use white fondant
18:59and black fondant.
19:00So he'll be sitting
19:02like with his legs hanging down
19:03so he looks very wise
19:04and intelligent.
19:07Okay, Emma, now mold it
19:08into a log shape.
19:09I had to form the rice cereal
19:11tree into a log
19:12and on top of that
19:13we put brown fondant
19:15and on that
19:16we put like this wood texture thing.
19:19Wood stencil.
19:19A wood stencil on it.
19:21Whoa, that worked.
19:22And made it look like a log.
19:25That looks like a log to me.
19:26Okay, how bad do you guys
19:28want to be in the finale?
19:30Really bad.
19:30Really bad, right?
19:32If you guys make it
19:34to the finale
19:35and you win all that money
19:37what's going to happen?
19:38What are you going to do?
19:39He wants to take
19:39my cousins on a cruise.
19:41I want some to start
19:42my own baking business
19:43and get chickens.
19:44And get chickens?
19:45Yeah.
19:46So you'll get chickens.
19:47The chickens will lay eggs.
19:49You won't have to
19:50Yes.
19:50You won't have to pay for eggs.
19:51Eggs at the grocery store
19:53are so expensive.
19:54They're so expensive.
19:55I mean, you could just
19:56do the old fashioned way.
19:57Scream in their ear
19:58they say pecan
19:59and then eggs
20:00shoots out of their butt.
20:02Wait.
20:03Haven't you seen that
20:04from the Goonies?
20:05That's not really
20:06how it works.
20:07Oh my God.
20:08Those guys live on a farm.
20:09They might be able to...
20:10We had chickens.
20:11Yeah, we had chickens.
20:12So does that work?
20:13You scream in its ear
20:14and an egg comes out?
20:16No.
20:16Not even close.
20:17And they go...
20:17They just go
20:18when they lay an egg.
20:20They normally lay at nine eggs.
20:22Wait, do they actually
20:22make that noise
20:23when they...
20:24They do.
20:26So like the chickens
20:27sit there
20:27and it's just like...
20:28They go...
20:29And then...
20:29No, they go...
20:33And then there's an egg.
20:35That sounded real.
20:37Yeah.
20:37Wow.
20:38All right.
20:39Well, listen.
20:40I've been enjoying your food.
20:41I hope you get to the finale.
20:43Yeah.
20:43Yeah.
20:44Good luck with your pie.
20:45Get to work.
20:45Yes.
20:46All right.
20:47Good luck.
20:47Bye.
20:48Kara and Leah,
20:49I think,
20:49are our biggest competition.
20:52They're really quick
20:53and they're the queens of decor.
20:55I think we should...
20:55We should dust the whole thing
20:56with powdered sugar, too.
20:57Oh, yeah.
20:58Their items look really good,
20:59but everything can look good
21:01and it might not taste good.
21:03We need to start working
21:04on the Yeti as soon as possible
21:05because I don't...
21:05That's going to take us a while
21:06to sculpt.
21:07Because I've sculpted
21:08a little bit more,
21:09I'm going to take the lead
21:10and sculpt in the Yeti.
21:11I start making our Yeti
21:12and I did it with modeling chocolate,
21:14but I start by just making
21:15like simple body shapes
21:17for like the legs,
21:18the arms,
21:19and like the head.
21:20And then I texture it
21:21with scissors
21:22to make it look like fur.
21:23That was looking pretty good.
21:25Looking like a Yeti, I guess.
21:26I know it doesn't have arms yet.
21:27You get the idea, right?
21:28The ears kind of look like a cat.
21:30Akbar, your artistry is needed.
21:33Make the ear...
21:34It's like a little...
21:35like push it up a little,
21:38like...
21:39That?
21:39Yeah, like that.
21:40Okay.
21:41Yeah, it looks good.
21:41Put it Yeti...
21:43Okay.
21:43We're baking the standards competition.
21:45We've made it this far.
21:46We've put a lot of work into this.
21:48We've tried our best,
21:49you know,
21:50on all of our desserts.
21:51So we're really hoping
21:52you can stay on the good course
21:54that we're going to make it
21:55to the finale, hopefully.
21:57Okay, now I'm going to try
21:57and get a smile on.
21:58This looks great.
21:59Grab a pie and bag
22:00and you can put this in there.
22:01We start to instill our coconut cupcakes
22:02with the mango mousse
22:03and then I put a scoop
22:05of our toasted coconut buttercream on top.
22:07Kira smooths that out
22:08and then with our leftover cupcakes,
22:09I kind of carve like
22:10three little mountains
22:11and cover those in buttercream.
22:13I'm making a big mountain.
22:15Wow.
22:16Bakers, you have 30 minutes left
22:18to create a critter.
22:21Who loves to lend a helping hand?
22:24Kira, I'm a little worried
22:26that cupcakes are not going to be enough.
22:28I kind of agree
22:29because like,
22:29I mean, just look at it.
22:30There's two pies,
22:31a cherry pie,
22:32an apple pie,
22:32and a cheesecake.
22:34Voila.
22:35Like, and pate-a-choux.
22:37Something pate-a-choux.
22:38Like, on top of the cheesecake?
22:39I don't know.
22:39Like, that's wild.
22:41Cupcakes for semifinals
22:42is a little bit simple,
22:44but it's not a boring cupcake,
22:46so it's kind of a toss-up,
22:47but honestly,
22:47I'm really worried.
22:48Do you think this is enough?
22:50I have no idea.
22:5520 minutes.
22:57Animal helper desserts.
22:58I think we should make
22:59some little chocolates, Kira,
23:00that are like massive confettis, okay?
23:02That's a good idea.
23:03We're worried the cupcakes
23:04are pretty simple
23:05for the semifinals.
23:07Purple.
23:09For confetti?
23:10Yeah, I think.
23:11So we decided to do
23:12mango truffles.
23:13So to make our truffles,
23:14Kira starts by melting
23:15a bunch of multicolor chocolate.
23:20And then she puts them in a mold,
23:21and we used the same mango mousse
23:23that we made for the inside
23:24of the cupcakes,
23:24filled that,
23:25and then she topped it off
23:26with some more white chocolate.
23:28Okay, I'll cut them out.
23:29I'll cut them out.
23:30I'm going to eat it.
23:32Try it.
23:35Is it fun to eat?
23:36Very.
23:38Hey, hey, those are...
23:40Whoa.
23:41Those are good.
23:43Those are...
23:44Those look great.
23:46Look at that.
23:48They're airy and...
23:49Did you make this dough?
23:50I did by myself.
23:52That is professional-looking
23:55pateche right there, my friend.
23:57All right, so,
23:59Abigail,
24:00who you got your eyes on
24:01as competition?
24:02Myself.
24:03Yourself.
24:04Oh, gosh.
24:06This one.
24:08You are going to be unstoppable, kid.
24:12Myself, she says.
24:13Kenneth,
24:14who do you got your eyes on?
24:15Who do you think
24:16your biggest competition is?
24:17Yeah, there you go.
24:18Abigail.
24:19Abigail.
24:20Abigail.
24:22All right.
24:23Good luck, you two.
24:25All right.
24:26Can you go grab a bowl and stuff
24:28to prep for royal icing?
24:29Got it.
24:29Because that's how I'm going to...
24:30I was going to do black royal icing
24:33on the cream puffs
24:34and then, like, hand paint
24:35on, like, gold scales.
24:37Ooh, I love it.
24:39So I'm going to fill the cream puffs.
24:41I put in my Diplomat cream,
24:44and then I follow that up
24:46with the raspberry filling.
24:48Once I can see the fillings
24:49start to come out of them
24:50a little bit,
24:51then I know it's...
24:52Whoa.
24:53Really filled.
24:54All right, I think this is pretty good.
24:56I'm going to dip them
24:57in my black royal icing
24:58and just wait for them to set
25:00before painting on gold scales.
25:03I'm going to put these in the fridge.
25:05That's not very good.
25:07I'll do a different one.
25:09You've got to stop.
25:11They're left over,
25:12but they're used in case I mess up.
25:15There are this many left.
25:16Just let me fill one more.
25:18And eat one more?
25:20I think that's what that meant.
25:21No.
25:22Abigail is not happy
25:24with Kenneth right now
25:24because he is eating
25:26all of the extra cream puffs.
25:28You've got to leave, like,
25:29two or three just in case.
25:31Right?
25:32Oh, look at Kenneth.
25:33Put one down, Kenneth.
25:34It's one thing to test your work.
25:36It's another thing
25:37to scarf your work, right?
25:40It's like fondant,
25:41but chocolate.
25:43I'm going to make the rake
25:44out of brown modeling chocolate,
25:46and then I'm also going to make
25:49eyes, a tail, and a tongue
25:51for a snake with a rake.
25:53Abby, what do you think?
25:55Good.
25:5615 minutes, bakers.
25:57So I'm feeling a little worried
25:58on time just because
25:59we don't have a lot of time left,
26:00and our pie is still in the oven.
26:02All right, we just got to make space
26:03for when it comes out
26:04and then put our decorations on it.
26:06Genesis and Akbar,
26:08you guys all right?
26:09Yes.
26:10Sure.
26:11Sure?
26:11Sure.
26:11They didn't sound too confident.
26:13That was not a very confident.
26:14It's like, sure.
26:15Yeah, sure.
26:1610 minutes left.
26:18Are you making the wings?
26:20Yeah.
26:20Okay.
26:21Make a little smile on there.
26:23We're going to be making
26:24the bee with rice cereal treats
26:26because we don't want anything
26:27that'll be too heavy
26:28and will sink into our pie.
26:31So rice cereal is really
26:33like a kind of light
26:34and it's not heavy,
26:35so you can just set it on there
26:36and it'll stay up.
26:37And our key is made out of pie crust.
26:39Let's try to make sure
26:40this dough is cooked.
26:41My favorite thing
26:42about the cat in the hat
26:43is his hat.
26:44It's just so, like, tall.
26:46It's just big.
26:46You just pull things out of there.
26:48It's just, I like the cat in the hat.
26:49Jen, is the bee's face, like, yellow?
26:51Yeah, you're going to make, like,
26:52little character shit.
26:53Your eyes on there.
26:54Like, cute.
26:54It's just, like, a little white
26:55with the black pupil.
26:56Quick!
26:58Glove, glove, glove.
26:59Two of them.
27:00Perfect.
27:01It's done.
27:02Can I see this?
27:02Oh, wow.
27:03Look at that puppy.
27:05Our Yeti is done.
27:07It looks so funny.
27:09Does it look scaly enough?
27:11Yeah.
27:13I'd say yeah.
27:14Bakers, you have five minutes left.
27:21Yeah, I'm taking out the cheese.
27:23Getting a lot of donut sugar on me.
27:25Okay, you're good.
27:25Okay, he's throwing some confetti.
27:27Where are the big confetti?
27:27I don't know.
27:28Should we add the big confettis?
27:29Yes.
27:31Let's put some big confettis in the mountain.
27:34Give me the frosting, Ken.
27:40Now?
27:41Yeah.
27:47Or it will look like it's covered in snot.
27:49Look it.
27:51That.
27:51That's that for a cat in a hat.
27:53Time to taste your treats.
27:55Oh, boy.
27:57Does it look like it's sinking?
27:59What do you think, Ken?
28:00I think it's good.
28:02Perfect.
28:06I'm excited about the idea of new helping characters.
28:10Right?
28:10They're letting their inner seuss loose.
28:14Hey, Akbar.
28:16Hey, Genesis.
28:17Hi.
28:17Oh, hey, watch out.
28:18There's a bee on that pie.
28:19Why are you?
28:22Genesis jumped out of her skin.
28:23Okay, so tell us about your bee.
28:26His name is Lee the Bee.
28:28With the key.
28:29With the key.
28:29And he opens the door to joy and happiness.
28:32Gotcha.
28:33What are your flavors?
28:35It's a caramel apple pecan pie.
28:37I think Lee the Bee is really cute.
28:39And I love the key, too.
28:40I do wish that Lee wasn't just kind of laying there.
28:43Lee looks tired.
28:44Maybe it's just carrying around that big, heavy key.
28:47Yes.
28:47You know, those little wings.
28:49Lee has a lot of character.
28:51It could be a little neater, a little tighter.
28:53My only concern is the way that you ended your lattice.
28:59It's not, like, cohesive.
29:00You should have brought over the crust to cover up where the lattice ends.
29:04Yes.
29:04So it's a little messy there, but the filling looks incredible.
29:09Fingers crossed.
29:10It's set.
29:11Let's cut into that thing.
29:12Oh.
29:14Sort of.
29:14Oh.
29:15A little something.
29:20Is it good?
29:31I don't know what it said.
29:34It's not good.
29:42That is delicious.
29:44Oh.
29:45Oh, yeah.
29:46That is scary.
29:48Your apples are, like, cooked all the way through.
29:52They still have a little bit of body to them.
29:54Like, they're not turning into mush, but they are, like, so velvety.
29:58And squishy and yummy.
30:00It's like a caramel apple pie.
30:02You know?
30:03The crunch from the pecans is really nice.
30:05It's such a little bonus.
30:07I never do it.
30:08I never, ever put pecans in my apple pie.
30:11But I really like it.
30:12It's really, really good.
30:13And that crust is salty in a good way.
30:17Oh, okay.
30:18I do think it's a little thick, though.
30:20Thick?
30:21Because it's, like, crusty in some spots.
30:24Okay.
30:24So there's parts of it that are really, really thick.
30:27I will eat this slice and two more slices within an hour.
30:31And that's not good for my pants.
30:37It's so much caramel and apples.
30:40And I'm so glad that you put the apples before you put it in the oven.
30:44Because you can't trust that the oven is going to do the work for you.
30:47Delicious pie.
30:48Bye.
30:48Bye.
30:49Bye, guys.
30:53I'm glad they didn't eat that key because I didn't know if I was on the rink or not.
30:58I was glad.
30:59I was glad they didn't eat the pee.
31:02That's pretty good.
31:03Goodness gracious.
31:04A couple issues, though.
31:05I mean, that crust is very thick.
31:10Okay, Leah and Kira.
31:11Hello.
31:12Hi.
31:13Hi, ladies.
31:14So who is this?
31:16Introduce us.
31:17This is Betty the Confetti Yeti.
31:20And she spreads joy with her giant confetti and, you know, her confetti in general.
31:26I feel like I spread joy with confetti.
31:28You do?
31:28So for our flavors, we have a coconut cupcake with mango filling.
31:34And on top, it's a toasted coconut inside of a coconut frosting and then decorated with
31:40pants goes with Yeti and some little, like, mango truffles and, of course, confetti.
31:44Betty is cute.
31:46The girls always make beautiful things.
31:47No doubt in my mind you have the skills to execute any beautiful dessert.
31:52But you made cupcakes, you had two and a half hours to do all of this.
31:59So I think this wants something more.
32:00I love the way that you buried the big gumballs.
32:04Are those gumballs?
32:05They're truffles with a mango mousse inside.
32:07What?
32:08I thought they were just gumballs that you found.
32:11No, not gumballs.
32:12I can't wait to eat one.
32:20Ooh.
32:21A little cupcake sandwich.
32:24Coconut mango.
32:26Got all of those wonderful tropical flavors in the Swiss Alps.
32:30You got great coconut flavor, delicious mango.
32:34I tasted your truffle, and I got to tell you, it's really well made.
32:37I think the mousse inside of it is really delicious as a filling for your cupcake.
32:42But I think as a filling for a truffle, I want something with a little more body.
32:46It just feels to me a little too light for the inside of a really hard chocolate.
32:51I love every aspect of this.
32:54It's a delicious cupcake.
32:55It is absolutely beautiful.
32:56I just wonder if just the baked element of this was just a little too simple.
33:01Leah and Kira, thank you.
33:03Bye.
33:04The judge has said that cupcakes for semifinals was like a little bit simple considering it is semifinals.
33:11Well, I'm a little bit worried about it because we could be going home today.
33:15I got to tell you, I mean, just decorating-wise, this is dope.
33:19It's really cool.
33:23Hi, Macy and Emmett.
33:24Hey, you two.
33:26Hi.
33:27So our animal helper is the wise frog on a log.
33:30He, like, when life is just bringing you down with all your worries, you can sit and talk with him,
33:35and he gives really good advice.
33:36And his name is Bob.
33:38Bob the frog on a log.
33:40So we made a classic cherry pie with a golden, buttery lattice crust.
33:47And for the log, it's a rice cereal treat.
33:50I think the frog is really, really cute.
33:52I love his face.
33:53I love his expressions.
33:54I can see a little bit of the cereal treats popping through the log, though.
33:59Yeah.
33:59Right there.
34:00Oof.
34:01So you want to make sure you cover all that stuff up, you know?
34:04I think your pie shell looks really, really good.
34:07I like your lattice.
34:08I like the way that it's nice and clean and sharp around the edges.
34:12But I am a little concerned that your cherry pie filling is not set.
34:17We'll see.
34:21Hey, Bob.
34:24Oh.
34:27Oh.
34:28The cherries.
34:30Mm.
34:32It looks like it really didn't set up.
34:34But it might be delicious.
34:35Who knows?
34:36Let's see.
34:43So, it's not a successful pie because it didn't set up.
34:48But what I tell you, it is delicious.
34:51It is so good.
34:53The cherries have so much flavor.
34:55I think if you had a little bit more time, more cornstarch, I think it would have set up.
35:00Macy, you said that your pie crust was golden and buttery.
35:06It is golden and buttery and crispy and salty and amazing.
35:13It's really, really good.
35:15The flavor of your cherries is great, right?
35:17Cherries are really good.
35:18But you can see it's like water, right?
35:20It's just like cherry juice.
35:21Thank you so much.
35:24Bye.
35:24See you later.
35:25You will always find a frog on a log floating in cherry pie.
35:30Thank you, Emmett.
35:33Hi, Abigail.
35:34Hey, Kenneth.
35:35Hello.
35:35For our animal creation, we named our snake Blake.
35:41So, he is Blake the snake with a rake.
35:45And his job is to teach people how to garden.
35:48Aww.
35:50So, what kind of dessert is Blake sitting on?
35:53He is on a lemon no-bake cheesecake.
35:57And then the snake itself is cream puffs filled with a raspberry diplomat cream with a raspberry filling.
36:05I think this is a very cool cheesecake.
36:07The crust, I'm glad that you brought your crust up the sides.
36:10I love that.
36:11Your cream puffs look delicious.
36:13They do have beautiful color on them.
36:15I really love Blake's paint job.
36:19It really looks like a snake.
36:20It's like segmented the way that, you know, like I like that you use cream puffs.
36:25Your cheesecake looks delicious.
36:27I cannot wait to eat that.
36:29I am a cheesecake lover.
36:37I am thinking this cheesecake is delicious.
36:44It's very simple in flavor.
36:46Not much of a pronounced lemon flavor.
36:49But your crust is so buttery and salty and delicious.
36:54The cream puff.
36:55Nice.
36:56Perhaps slightly overbaked pate-a-choo.
36:59Slightly.
36:59But the filling is delicious.
37:03I think your pate-a-choo is perfect.
37:06I think it's crispy.
37:08I think it's got color.
37:10I think it's really good.
37:12And it is totally baked.
37:14There is a big old hole in the middle and you got a ton of filling in there.
37:19This is really good, you two.
37:21Nice job.
37:22Bye.
37:22Bye, guys.
37:28Magic baking figures worth.
37:30We only had a few little things that we messed up.
37:34And overall, I felt like we did great.
37:37I think we can make it to the finale, but we'll have to wait and see.
37:40Come on, Dub.
37:41You don't think that's burnt?
37:42No.
37:43Look at that.
37:43I don't.
37:44I don't.
37:45Aw.
37:46I thought it was great.
37:48Aw.
37:49Yeah, it looks good.
37:50It looks good.
37:56Some of these teams did a really great job with bringing their characters to life.
38:01I think all of these teams did a great job bringing their characters to life.
38:04But, on the other hand, teams that struggled today, I would say both have technical issues.
38:12Yes.
38:12Both have funky characters.
38:14Yes.
38:15Okay, the more we talk about it, the more I kind of just like out, like I just weigh things
38:19out, like, okay, taste, presentation, what would I go back and eat over and over again?
38:25And if I put it that way, I know who wins.
38:29And it's clear who should be going home.
38:32Listen, I don't like it.
38:33I could definitely argue this either way and make it make sense, but I kind of feel like
38:38I know who needs to be going home.
38:39Yeah.
38:43We're about to find out who's going to the finale and who's going home.
38:47We are feeling a little nervous because I saw everyone else's and it looked really nice.
38:53I feel like we could have done better, but it might be enough for us to stay in the competition.
38:59Bakers, your cat in the hat helper desserts help put smiles on our faces.
39:04There were two that we really wanted to adopt and they were baked by...
39:12Leah and Kira.
39:13What?
39:14Good job, guys.
39:17And Abigail and Kenneth.
39:19Yes.
39:20Good job, guys.
39:22Leah and Kira.
39:23Betty the Yeti with confetti was cute and clean.
39:26We really love the way you built up her mountain habitat.
39:29Yes.
39:29And the mango filling in your coconut cupcakes was so fluffy and full of flavor.
39:35Yes.
39:37Abigail and Kenneth, you gave us two complete desserts on one plate and Blake the Snake's
39:44cream puffs were packed with raspberry flavor and that cheesecake was creamy, light, and tasty.
39:53But the cat in the hat movie-inspired dessert that made us crave a sequel was baked by...
40:04You've got to tell us!
40:07Abigail and Kenneth.
40:10Great job on your first win.
40:13And good timing leading right into the finale.
40:15We will see you here again next time, along with Leah and Kira.
40:20You are both in the finale.
40:22That leaves Macy and Emmett and Genesis and Akbar.
40:26Please step forward.
40:29Macy and Emmett, the exposed rice cereal treat under your frog's log kind of broke the illusion
40:35for us.
40:36And your cherry pie filling wasn't just juicy.
40:39It was juice.
40:42Genesis and Akbar, leave the bee with a key.
40:45Could have been neater.
40:46He kind of looked like he was taking a nap.
40:48And your pie crust was thick.
40:52Creating a character from scratch in dessert form is no easy task.
40:56Unfortunately, the team leaving us today is...
41:08Macy and Emmett.
41:10I'm so sorry, you two.
41:12You guys are amazing.
41:14You guys are amazing.
41:16Please say your goodbyes and exit the kitchen.
41:19You guys are so good.
41:20Both of you.
41:21I'm really proud of ourselves for making it this far.
41:24The competition is just really fun being here.
41:28Good job, guys.
41:29Bye, guys.
41:30Bye.
41:30Bye.
41:31Even though we didn't win, I hope I can still go on a cruise.
41:34When I go home, I'll keep baking.
41:37Emmett, give me one.
41:41Oh, I'm getting emulsion.
41:43Oh, my goodness.
41:44I think we did pretty good today.
41:48Coming your way on baking championship next gen.
41:51Oh, that's cool.
41:52Thanks.
41:53The finale has everyone spinning.
41:55It works.
41:56I don't have to redo it.
41:57And one team takes it all.
41:59The next gen baking champions are
42:02...
42:02...
42:03...
42:04...
42:05...
