Security cameras are supposed to protect us. But in modern cyber warfare, hackers can turn them into tools for surveillance and missile targeting.
Transcript
00:00You probably think security cameras make places safer, but governments are hacking them to
00:06plan missile strikes. Researchers recently found hackers linked to Iran breaking into security
00:12cameras across the Middle East. But why cameras? Because once you hack one, well, you've got eyes
00:19on the ground. You can watch buildings, track traffic patterns, see when people arrive or leave.
00:24It's basically free intelligence. Hacking these cameras isn't that hard. Attackers have been
00:31exploiting flaws in popular brands like Hikvision and Dahua, vulnerabilities that have been known
00:36for years. The real problem is something experts call digital neglect. People install digital devices
00:42and then forget about them. No updates, default passwords, no security settings. Meanwhile,
00:49there are websites that scan the internet and list vulnerable devices. And during conflicts
00:54from the Middle East to the Russia-Ukraine war, civilian cameras have quietly become intelligence
01:00tools. Some analysts even say when they see spikes in hacked cameras in one area,
01:05it can be a warning that something is about to happen there.
