00:12What's amazing about Mass Effect is
00:13is we told this story and we set out to tell this trilogy
00:15story originally that was going to span three games
00:18because there was no way we could build one game
00:20to have all of it in there.
00:21And so this time though, we wanted to do something that's more singular,
00:24more all-encompassing,
00:25more definitive as a story in the
00:27massive universe. We wanted to
00:29have a story about an intrepid group of
00:31adventurers who leave so much of
00:33what we know in the Milky Way galaxy behind
00:35and then end up having to forge a new path
00:37inside the Andromeda galaxy. That
00:39became a very strong
00:41spine for everything else that had to happen.
00:44When putting together the plan
00:46to create a universe as big as Andromeda,
00:48we take from a variety
00:49of places. We take from the fans,
00:51we take from technology, and we take from
00:53our design and our
00:55our own ambitions.
00:58We have to strike that balance
01:00as a bioreg game that we're known for
01:01very deep stories, and this
01:03is our DNA, the best stories you can play.
01:05On one side you get the depth of
01:07an RPG, and on the other side
01:09you get the dynamism of a good
01:11third-person shooter.
01:16One of the things that's most important
01:17about Mass Effect is the characters.
01:20And so with the cinematics,
01:21it was really all about how far can we push
01:23the fidelity of the characters,
01:25make them as believable as possible
01:27using performance capture
01:29and then with a lot of the other upgrades
01:31like HDR and 4K, we were really able
01:33to bring those things to life.
01:35We wanted to deliver a new experience
01:36in a new galaxy, with new characters,
01:38new gameplay, but we needed to do it in a way
01:40that felt familiar to fans who had played the trilogy before.
01:43The technology should be in service
01:45to the game.
01:46And so that's really where you want to start,
01:48is find that sweet spot in between the two.
01:51So how do we bring some of the amazing stuff
01:53that Frostbite has already in it
01:54and games have really taken great advantage of
01:57and make a spectacular game in outer space
02:00on foreign planets with aliens?
02:03And this is all new ground for Frostbite.
02:05That was like one of the biggest first technical steps.
02:08How do we adapt this?
02:10Using NVIDIA technologies with Frostbite
02:12has allowed us to bring Mass Effect Andromeda
02:14on a very, very high-scale visual fidelity level,
02:17especially on the PC.
02:19So HDR and 4K have allowed us to make levels
02:22unlike anything that players have seen before.
02:254K, the amazing resolution that it provides,
02:28gives that level of detail that we've always built into
02:31our characters and environments,
02:32but we've never been able to actually show on the screen.
02:35HDR allows us to do a number of things.
02:37Our dark environments and our bright environments,
02:39the grading of color in those is so much better.
02:41You can see all the subtleties and the minutiae
02:44between different pieces of color
02:46and different pieces of texture
02:47that you can never see before.
02:49On the gameplay side also,
02:50HDR increased significantly the readability of the scenes.
02:54So you can have a lot of lens flare, explosion,
02:57whatever you have,
02:57and still see numerous details.
03:00This is going to be one of these games
03:01where when you see it on HDR,
03:03when you see it in 4K,
03:04you're not going to want to go back.
03:05PC has always been a really important thing
03:07for us here at BioWare,
03:08and Mass Effect Andromeda is no different.
03:10When partnering with NVIDIA,
03:12we're able to take technologies like Ansel
03:14to showcase the best and the brightest things
03:16that are in Andromeda.
03:18I've loved using Ansel even as a developer
03:20to capture a lot of the in-game.
03:22I've been really impressed with the way
03:24you're able to tune the composition or your shot
03:26to make it your own.
03:27I want players to go out into the middle of nowhere
03:29on these planets and take amazing screenshots
03:31and take amazing 3D captures
03:33that they can share with their friends
03:35and really showcase the beauty
03:36of what this game is about.
03:38Working with partners like NVIDIA
03:39and seeing what the HDR can do,
03:42what the 4K can do,
03:43all those technology,
03:45having just fun with Ansel,
03:47this has created a number of motivational aspects
03:49in our team,
03:50and they want to push those boundaries very, very far.
03:55There's just so much new technology
03:56that has come in and available to players
03:58since we launched our last game
03:59that we really want to make sure they have it,
04:01the 4K, the HDR, Ansel now.
04:03We really want to make sure that Mass Effect
04:05puts that forward and gives them a chance to do that.
04:07So, an enormous thank you to our PC fans.
04:10We love you so much.
04:11You've been there with us for over 20 years,
04:13and we really hope you enjoy Mass Effect Andromeda.
