02:08that occurred at about 7.05 p.m. on Monday 16 March 2026,
02:14in Mediguri Metropolitan Council, MMC, the explosions were carried out by suspected Boko Haram terrorist suicide bombers who detonated improvised
02:24explosive devices at three different locations within the city,
02:28namely the post office area, Monday Market Access and the entrance to the University of Mediguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH, during
02:36the period of IFTA, breaking of fast.
02:39The cowardly attacks targeted crowded crowded public areas in an attempt by the terrorists to inflict mass casualties and create
02:46panic within the metropolis.
02:49Troops of Operation Haddon Kai, in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, team and other sister security
02:58agencies,
02:59responded swiftly to the incident and immediately secured and cordoned off the affected locations to prevent further harm.
03:06Emergency response teams, including personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and other medical service providers,
03:16promptly evacuated casualties to the General Hospital, Specialist Hospital and the University of Mediguri Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention.

03:31while emergency responders continue rescue and evacuation efforts at the affected locations.
03:37Preliminary information further indicates that the terrorists may have deployed multiple suicide bombers into Mediguri

05:23to target densely populated civilian locations in order to create panic and gain propaganda advantage.
05:30It adds, historical patterns show that terrorist groups often intensify their activities during significant religious periods,
05:38particularly around the 27th and 29th days of Ramadan,
05:42when places of worship, markets, motor parks, and other public gathering areas experience increased in human traffic.
05:49Accordingly, to forestall repeat occurrences, members of the public across the Northeast region have been strongly advised
05:57to remain security conscious, vigilant, and observant of their surroundings, particularly in crowded locations such as mosques,
06:05prayer grounds, markets, shopping areas, bus terminals, hospitals, and major road junctions.
06:13Worshippers attending night prayers, Tarawih and Taharjid and other religious gatherings are encouraged to exercise caution
06:20and cooperate with security personnel conducting screening and access control procedures.
06:26The public is advised to observe the following precautionary measures.
06:30Remain alert to suspicious persons or unusual movement, behavior,
06:34particularly individuals loitering around crowded areas or attempting to avoid security checks.
06:40Report unattended bags, parcels, or suspicious objects, immediately to the nearest security personnel.
06:48Avoid overcrowded areas whenever possible and maintain situational awareness when attending places of worship, markets, or public events.
06:57Cooperate fully with security agencies during stop and search operations, security screening, and other safety procedures.

07:14Community, opinion leaders, religious authorities, market associations, and transport unions are also encouraged to support ongoing security efforts

08:58I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops
09:02who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state.
09:08The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups.
09:13Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down.
09:18Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies,
09:24I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities.
09:29This effort is already in progress.
09:32Additionally, I have directed security chiefs to move to Mediguri to take charge of the situation.
09:39I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured.
09:44There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety.
09:49We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them.
09:53Nigeria will not succumb to fear.
09:55The Borno State Command of the Nigeria Police Force stated in a statement that,

10:19Preliminary investigation reveals that the incidents were carried out by suspected suicide bombers.
10:26Regrettably, a total of 23 persons lost their lives, while 108 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
10:34Following the incidents, a combined team of police tactical units, the military,
10:40and other joint security operatives were swiftly deployed to the affected areas.
10:44The scenes were immediately secured, cordoned off, and subjected to thorough sweep operations
10:50by Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, Unit Base 13 Mediguri to rule out the presence of any additional threats.
10:59The Commissioner of Police, C.P. Naziru Abdul-Majid,
11:03visited the affected locations to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the situation
11:08and to evaluate ongoing response efforts.
11:10He commiserated with victims and their families, while assuring the public of the command's unwavering commitment
11:17to safeguarding lives and property.
11:19Victims were promptly evacuated by emergency responders, including the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA,
11:27and the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to medical facilities where they are currently receiving treatment.
11:34Borno State Police Command wishes to state that normalcy has been fully restored in the affected areas.
11:42Meanwhile, joint security operatives have heightened security presence and surveillance
11:47across Mediguri and its environs to prevent any further occurrences.
11:52Investigations are ongoing to further ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incidents
11:56and to bring perpetrators to justice.
11:58The Borno State Police Command urges members of the public to remain calm, vigilant,

13:01Kofa, MMC, and one o'clock hours along the Damboa-Mediguri Road axis in Damboa local government area,
13:08when suspected terrorists attempted to infiltrate the areas.
13:12In a swift and coordinated response, joint security operatives who were already on heightened alert engaged the insurgents
13:20and successfully repelled the attacks, forcing the terrorists to retreat.
13:24During the operations, no casualties were recorded among security personnel or civilians.
13:31However, the insurgents are believed to have suffered casualties and injuries,
13:35though the exact figures are yet to be confirmed.
13:38The Commissioner of Police, Orno State Command, reassures residents of the command's continued commitment
