00:11Hi, Spacemonkeys!
00:13So, we are back from E3.
00:16We wanted to share with you
00:17that demonstration,
00:19which is a mix between
00:21a technological demonstration
00:23of the G-Engine,
00:24that we call Voyager,
00:25and the actual game
00:27with some gameplay elements.
00:29So, here you can recognize
00:30the big mothership that was
00:32in the trailer.
00:34Of course, it's not the same level of quality,
00:36this is a work-in-progress asset,
00:38but again, we wanted to share
00:40all these materials with you.
00:42As you know, the game is in development,
00:45we still have a lot of things to do,
00:47but it's cool to share with you
00:48where we are on that
00:51spaceship part.
00:52So, here, the mothership
00:54is like a home,
00:57a house for the player.
00:58That one is about 400 meters long
01:00and you can have your crew inside,
01:02of course, your main character,
01:04but also your spaceships.
01:05So, if you start in the game
01:07without anything,
01:08and you get your first spaceships,
01:11even if then, later,
01:13you have a larger spaceship,
01:14you can keep the smaller one
01:16into the big mothership.
01:19That's the same thing for the crew.
01:21If you start with
01:21one or two members in your crew,
01:25then you can have them
01:26in your big mothership later.
01:29That gameplay mechanic
01:30of what we call
01:32the Russian dolls,
01:34so bigger, smaller into the bigger,
01:36and then your characters,
01:37it's very close to what we had,
01:39in fact, in Beyond Good and Evil 1,
01:41when the characters were getting out
01:42of the overcraft.
01:45So, here, we have
01:48that monkey
01:48which is my playable main character
01:51here, but, of course,
01:52in that game,
01:54you can select your character
01:55and create your own character.
01:58Just to give you a feeling of scale,
02:00that ship is about 20 meters long,
02:04and the other one,
02:05the mother ship,
02:06is about 400 meters long.
02:08I'm going to look close to it
02:10so that you can see the size.
02:12So, when we have
02:14large spaceships like that,
02:17the good thing,
02:18the interesting thing is that
02:20there are a real level of gameplay.
02:24you can go inside,
02:26we have interiors for those big ingredients.
02:30So, imagine I'm at the beginning of the game,
02:32I'm starting the game,
02:33I have nothing,
02:35but I am like,
02:36you know, like in Beyond Good and Evil 1,
02:37you start without anything,
02:40and you have to get some money
02:41to, like, level up and get your first vehicles.
02:46So, imagine I'm just delivering pizzas here,
02:48it's like a side quest,
02:49or just a way among menis
02:50to get some money.
02:52I'm delivering pizzas to those guys,
02:55so imagine it's not my spaceship,
02:57that's the beginning of the game.
02:58And this could be an interesting way
03:00to trigger the first ingredients of the adventure,
03:04because the spaceship is a playable interior.
03:08You can get inside,
03:10you can sell your pizza,
03:11and then, instead of getting out of the ship,
03:14you could decide to explore the ship.
03:16And why not discover that there is some slavery,
03:19some human trafficking,
03:21and things like that.
03:22The good thing is that,
03:24in Beyond Good and Evil 2,
03:26like in the first episode,
03:28you can take pictures.
03:30So, if I'm taking a picture of evidence
03:33of the things I'm seeing in the game,
03:35then I can share those pictures
03:37with the guys in the city, for example,
03:40and then I can trigger discussions
03:42with those guys,
03:44based on the picture I took.
03:45So, that's a very interesting mechanic,
03:48that can create that feeling
03:50that you can explore everything,
03:52and you can gather information
03:54and share those information
03:56with NPCs, but also between players.
04:00Another very interesting thing here
04:02is the feeling of scale.
04:04Here we know that the players,
04:05they will explore everything,
04:07they will want to go everywhere.
04:08so we need to handle large-scale ingredients,
04:15like that huge statue,
04:17where you can go very close to it
04:18and you can look at all the details
04:22on the statues,
04:23and of course you can go inside
04:25of this kind of statue,
04:27and you can also get on top of it.
04:31I just want to show you
04:32something interesting about the scale,
04:34and the feeling of scale.
04:35so I'm going to land on the top of the statue,
04:37and you will realize how big it is.
04:45So, here we have a wonderful vista,
04:49and I want to show you,
04:51so I'm going to go more in the
04:53Developer Edition mode,
04:55where I can move the camera very easily,
04:58and you can really notice and understand
05:02the feeling of scale,
05:04when you look at that little monkey
05:06on top of the big statue,
05:07this is just a part of the head of the statue,
05:09and you're already very small.
05:11And it's very interesting to understand
05:13the scale of things.
05:16Here you see that the statue is really, really big.
05:19The statue is about 700 meters high.
05:23And the very interesting thing, again,
05:25is that, in fact, that statue,
05:27which is big,
05:28is just into a big city that is very small,
05:31in fact, compared to the continent here,
05:33the size of that big island,
05:36which is a small part of a big planet.
05:40So, you realize that you are just a little dot
05:43on that big planet,
05:44which is, in fact, just a small planet
05:46around the bigger one,
05:47which is a small dot in the big universe.
05:51So, when we started that technology,
05:53we thought that we needed to handle
05:56that feeling of scale
05:57and in a realistic way.
06:00Before going into details,
06:02we wanted to make sure
06:04that the engine was capable
06:06of handling this kind of thing.
06:07When you look at this sunset,
06:09it's not exactly a sunset made by artists.
06:13It's really the combinations
06:14of physical ingredients,
06:17you know, the light that is changing
06:20depending on the atmosphere.
06:21So, you can see here the different colors.
06:23and the fact that, of course,
06:25the planet is rotating around,
06:28in space, around the big planet.
06:30So, here I'm doing a kind of time lapse.
06:32I'm modifying the time
06:35so that you can understand better
06:37how it works.
06:38You see that everything is turning
06:40like in, you know,
06:42in a real solar system.
06:44So, yes, I'm increasing the speed.
06:46You see the night here with the cities.
06:48So, another important thing
06:50is that you can, at any time,
06:52you can go everywhere.
06:54So, if I'm going into another city,
06:56there is no loading or things like that.
06:58Everything is seamless
06:59because it handles that big universe
07:03in a consistent way.
07:05There is no shit or things like that.
07:08You can really appreciate the point of view
07:11wherever you are.
07:12It will be the same mechanics.
07:14So, that was one of the big features
07:17we wanted to make sure
07:18that we had before showing the game
07:20to the public, to everybody.
07:22So, that we wanted to make sure
07:23that the technology was working
07:25and this big ambitious game
07:27was feasible.
07:30I'm going back to my spaceship.
07:32I want just to show you
07:33some gameplay ingredients.
07:35I'm going to change a little bit
07:36the time so that we have
07:38a bit more sun.
07:39Yeah?
07:39So, that spaceship is very, very nice.
07:42It's very close to the beluga
07:43we had in Beyond Good and Evil 1.
07:46It can handle very large speed,
07:48but it's also very easy to do loopings
07:53and trigger very fast movements.
07:55So, it's a dogfighter.
07:56I can increase the speed.
07:59So, this is a classic plane speed
08:01we have on Earth.
08:02We are about 1,000 kilometers per hour.
08:06But you can increase that speed dramatically.
08:10Like this, for example.
08:12And you will see the speed is increasing now.
08:16You see that it's about 5,000 kilometers per hour.
08:20Let's go back in the city so that we can
08:24really understand the speed.
08:26And I can increase the speed again.
08:29Wow.
08:30Use some tricks, movements.
08:33And then we are going to do a looping,
08:35for example.
08:37So, you can combine anything,
08:41any movements.
08:43And the very nice thing, too,
08:44is that you can even increase the speed
08:47to 20,000 kilometers per hour,
08:50which is a lot.
08:52I'm going to try, yeah, to drift like that.
08:57So, at any time you can, you have the drifting mode,
08:59you have all these very interesting movements.
09:02But, of course, the biggest things you want to do
09:05in this kind of situation is to go in space.
09:10So, let's figure higher speed.
09:13And you see this little effect around the spaceship
09:16is because of the friction of the atmosphere.
09:19If I don't increase my speed,
09:22there is no reason to have more friction.
09:24But if I'm increasing the speed,
09:26you will see that the effect is stronger.
09:29And same thing if I'm going very, very fast.
09:32So, depending on the quantity of the atmosphere,
09:34you can have a stronger effect.
09:39Until you start burning.
09:43But you see, with those very high speeds,
09:45you can really travel very, very far and very fast.
09:49just changing the time of the simulation
09:51so that we can appreciate the wonderful view in space.
09:58So, if I decide to go on this planet or the satellite,
10:01which is somewhere around there,
10:03I can go there seamlessly.
10:05And the more, the further you are of the planet,
10:09the faster you can go
10:10because there's no more atmosphere,
10:11so no more friction.
10:13So, you see, here still have a little friction.
10:15But, of course, you can go back onto the planet
10:18whenever you want.
10:35A very interesting thing, too,
10:38is that there's a lot of biomes on the planet,
10:40like this desert,
10:41or you have frozen lands on the planet,
10:44different cities.
10:44So, we don't want empty planets.
10:47We want planets with landmarks,
10:49with places to explore.
10:50There are mountains
10:53where you have some monks living there.
10:55So, they are not empty, repetitive planets.
10:57The planets we aim to work on,
11:01to make our planets with life.
11:04And the planet itself is living somehow.
11:08For example, that planet has different,
11:12I would say, big biomes.
11:15Because that planet, as I told you,
11:17is a satellite of the bigger one,
11:20the one that is in the foreground.
11:22A part of that planet is protected,
11:26like, you know, like the moon.
11:27Our moon is, a part of the moon is protected by Earth
11:31from the big asteroids and the meteorites.
11:35So, here that's exactly the same thing.
11:37The cities are built in the safe place,
11:40where nothing is falling from space.
11:43But I will show you a bit later
11:45the opposite part of that planet,
11:47where you can have real-time giant meteorites,
11:51asteroids falling and modifying the planet's ground.
11:55The very interesting thing is that this kind of event
11:59is connected to the life on the planet.
12:02So that, yes, you've got those cities on the safe place,
12:05but once the big giant meteorites are falling
12:09on the other side of the planet,
12:11then you have the big companies that are sending the slaves
12:14on those very dangerous places.
12:17And a lot of slaves are dying trying to gather the meteorites' goods,
12:23you know, all the things that are falling from space and crashing.
12:29They are taking those rare materials and risking their life.
12:34So it's not just about the planet on one side
12:38and the story on the other one.
12:39The planet and the story are connected.
12:42And that's a very important thing for us.
12:45So, again, let's look at that planet modification process.
12:52Okay, so now we are back on the other side of the planet,
12:56the side that is bombarded by meteorites.
12:59Here, we just want to showcase the ability that we have in the engine
13:03to modify the whole planet in real time.
13:05So here, for example, imagine that you're flying over that region.
13:11You can have a huge meteorite falling in front of you
13:14and you will have all these incredible effects on the planet,
13:19but also on the other spaceships.
13:21So that's a very important feature for Beyond Good and Evil.
13:24We want interactivity to be the heart of the whole experience,
13:29not just with characters, not just with spaceships,
13:31but also with a big, huge planet.
13:34So thank you for watching that video.
13:37This is our first Space Monkey debrief.
13:43Many more will come.
13:44And we would love to have you leaving us your comments
13:48on this Space Monkey program site.
13:52So please comment, tell us what you think,
13:55and expect way more videos like that.
13:57Thank you very much.
14:15Thank you very much.
14:17Thank you.
14:34Thanks, I'll be teaching you for coming today.
