Una lunga demo per Resident Evil 2 all'E3 2018.
Trascrizione
00:04Grazie a tutti.
00:30I mean, so we actually, like, we're teasing that this title is going to be in development about three years
00:35ago, August 2015.
00:36Yeah.
00:37But literally when we showed that off, it was a PowerPoint presentation, a stack of papers.
00:40That's literally what the game was.
00:42So it did take us some time, but we're finally here and super happy to have it here at PlayStation.
00:46Well, I'm a huge personal fan of the Resident Evil series.
00:48I played all of Resident Evil 7 in VR for hours at a time.
00:52It was a ton of fun.
00:53And Resident Evil 2 is also a favorite of mine in the series.
00:56It's the only game that ever got me to skip school.
00:59Don't do that, kids.
01:00Because I wanted to buy it on day one.
01:02So I actually left school and went to the local retailer to pick it up.
01:05But I can't advise that.
01:07But I say we get right to gameplay because I know this is a big deal.
01:11I'm really excited to see what you guys are up to.
01:13Check it out.
01:14All right.
01:15We're going to have our producer, Yoshiaki Hirobayashi.
01:17Hi, everyone.
01:18Hi.
01:18She's kind of with us today.
01:19Hi.
01:19Thank you for coming.
01:20Nice to meet you guys.
01:21So let's jump right in.
01:23All right.
01:24Firing up Resident Evil 2 here.
01:26Got quite a crowd here at the PlayStation E3 booth.
01:29So here you can see, again, so Resident Evil 2 is very near and dear to tons of people's hearts.
01:34And just this first shot of the Raccoon City Police Department, like the huge open foyer,
01:39where, like, tons of nostalgia just, like, hits you.
01:42It's pretty crazy.
01:43Like, not everything is exactly right where you remember it.
01:46But that's kind of intentional because this game isn't just a remake.
01:50It's a whole new game that we're building off of the foundation that the original game had built.
01:54So there's going to be a lot of familiar stuff, but there's going to be a lot of new stuff
01:57as well.
01:58That's how you got to do it, right?
01:59I mean, it's been close to 20 years, hasn't it?
02:02Yeah.
02:02This game alone, 20 years.
02:04Wow.
02:05Does it make you feel old, Sid?
02:06I feel old when I get that stat.
02:07That makes me feel a little old.
02:10David, Marvin, you there?
02:12I found the way out.
02:14It's in here.
02:15So did you actually go back and re-watch the original and then, like, frame by frame decide what you
02:20wanted to keep in and what you wanted to update?
02:23Definitely.
02:24Yeah, some of them were, like, are pretty faithful to the originals, but something like this back in the day
02:29on PlayStation,
02:29it was the graphic power.
02:32It's not quite the level of PS4 or PS4 Pro just yet.
02:34A lot of the movements, characters jumping around, fully voiced stuff.
02:37It's a little bit more crude, but definitely classic.
02:39But some stuff is new, but some of the originals are there as well.
02:43So a big change here is the fact that we're really playing the game.
02:47We're Leon Kennedy.
02:48And when I think of Leon Kennedy, I think of Resident Evil 2, but I also think of Resident Evil
02:524.
02:52Yes.
02:52And you guys have opted for more of a Resident Evil 4 approach to just the controls.
02:58Tell me a little bit about that.
03:00Definitely.
03:00So the over-the-shoulder thing, we know it's the original game with the fixed camera in the corner.
03:05That's very, again, near and dear to people's hearts.
03:07But with the over-the-shoulder camera, again, we're building a new game.
03:10This isn't a remake of the original.
03:12It is a full new game that we really want to push.
03:15And the idea of having over-the-shoulder, the pinpoint accuracy of really trying to take down zombies,
03:19it felt better for this experience.
03:21So that's where we went through.
03:22But the big difference is the less shooter elements compared to Resident Evil 4.
03:29This is more like a Metroidvania style, survival horror, classic gameplay.
03:35So we actually try to keep the original gameplay feel from the original.
03:44So that's kind of what we were trying to do in this new Resident Evil 2 as well.
03:49Lighting feels very similar too.
03:51Yes.
03:52Yeah.
03:52Yeah.
03:52Definitely one of the things is like, so to make it like, you know, people always see the over-the
03:56-shoulder first person
03:57and think of just like, you know, you're going to be running off the walls and doing backflips and things
04:00like that.
04:01It is definitely not like that at all.
04:02The zombies in this game are, they are tough.
04:05And not just like, you know, if you see one or two or three, like, I got to look out.
04:08If you see one in a hallway and you can't get by them, like, you have to,
04:11if you fear for your life type thing, because you're probably going to die.
04:14So you've really got to be careful with your ammo.
04:16And to confirm, these are zombies, a la Resident Evil 2, not Lost Plagos.
04:21These are your T-virus zombies.
04:23Right.
04:23Right.
04:24I just had to settle that one.
04:29So Leon here is trying to save one of the fellow RPD officers.
04:34It's not looking good, unfortunately.
04:36Oh.
04:37That didn't go very well.
04:41Now, we know there's going to be some familiar faces in this as well.
04:43It's characters that we've seen in other games.
04:45We saw that in the showcase asset just last night.
04:47But tell me a little bit about the approach to that.
04:50Definitely.
04:50So we've got, of course, like, not only do we have Leon.
04:53Leon has his own campaign.
04:54We also wanted to bring, like, Claire Redfield.
04:56So she's not playable in this demo, but she, as well, is going to get her full playable campaign, too.
05:01Awesome.
05:02The rest of the characters are kind of, we haven't really confirmed too much yet.
05:05So I advise you to go back and watch the trailer.
05:07You can kind of make some good guesses, I think, based on those.
05:10But we'll leave it to your imagination.
05:14Awesome.
05:14This is cool here.
05:15This is super tense.
05:16So we're getting into here.
05:17So every time a zombie bites you, you really feel like you get that over-the-shoulder perspective really helps.
05:22Because you get to see the zombies, you really feel them kind of, like, bite to your neck just like
05:25that.
05:25But it kind of disorients you, too, when you get that.
05:28So you're spun around.
05:29It creates sort of a real sense of, like, oh, crap, what's going on?
05:32A zombie is actually attacking me.
05:34And this is all running in the end of Resident Evil 7, right?
05:37It is.
05:38This is actually the RE engine.
05:39So the same game that powered RE7 is actually going to be running this game, too, as well.
05:43H, are you okay?
05:43You're going to do this?
05:44Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:46It's a very terrible.
05:51So, again, like, they are no joke.
05:52Like, you get bit once or twice, and it's almost done.
05:56Oh, really?
05:56Okay.
05:57Look at this, you know, like, restroom.
05:59We added the restroom.
06:00Yeah, so that was one thing that was really, in the PS1 game, it was one of those limitations back
06:06in the day.
06:06But there were actually no restrooms in the original PlayStation.
06:09That's a good point, actually.
06:10In this demo, we wanted to make sure that we have a fully functioning bathroom.
06:13We put a little treat inside there for you, a first aid spray.
06:16That's a back-of-box.
06:18If I've ever heard of one.
06:19I noticed he just picked up some first aid spray before.
06:21A lot of what I love about survival horror games is the limited supplies.
06:24You really have to, like, think things through.
06:25Is that an element that you guys are working with?
06:27Yeah, those are sort of, like, the emergency, last-minute things.
06:30But, again, like, it is really survival horror to its fullest.
06:34Like, you're going to need to conserve those.
06:36As you can see in his inventory there, he only had a handful of bullets.
06:39So, if you run out of bullets, there's no, like, we did add certain things.
06:43Like, you know, if you find LRA7, some gunpowder and some other resources,
06:47you can make more.
06:48But if you're out, you're pretty much going to be out.
06:51So, really wanted to drive home the survival aspect of this game.
06:54Is there a knife?
06:55Is that included?
06:56There is.
06:57So, a little bit later, if we get far enough, we will show you the knife.
07:00It functions a way similar to when we did the original Resident Evil 1 remake.
07:04So, instead of just being something that you use, and you can slash it to keep guys at bay,
07:08but these guys are iron-clad, and that's generally probably not the best idea.
07:12Yeah.
07:12If you do get grappled, you get the chance to use it as sort of an emergency weapon
07:16to get rid of that zombie and get him off you.
07:18But if it's still, it does have a little bit of durability as well.
07:21So, if it's still durable enough, you can actually pick the knife off the zombie that you just killed,
07:26get a little bit more out of it, too.
07:28Interesting.
07:29What other sort of mechanical tweaks and changes are you guys implementing here
07:33that long-time fans might notice?
07:35Definitely.
07:36Kana-san, you want to take this one?
07:38Well, yes, the gameplay mechanics.
07:41So, since then, we're actually a feature now, you know, over-the-shoulder camera view.
07:45So, we're actually trying to put, like, more kind of, like, intense combat, you know, feel
07:56against the zombies.
07:57So, and also the way, you know, like, Leon is actually, you know, shooting
08:02is kind of more, like, natural feel,
08:05more close to the, like, Resident Evil 7 kind of combat style.
08:09There is some stuff a little bit later in the demo, too, where
08:13it wasn't present in the original game, where it's a little bit,
08:15it kind of, again, pushing that survival aspect of the game.
08:18You can find, like, wooden boards to board up windows
08:21to choose whether you want to board up that one
08:23if that zombie is a really problem for you.
08:25Otherwise, you can save it later in case something else comes up.
08:28But it really is about that choice of how do you want to play it.
08:30That is cool.
08:31That's something I've always wanted to see in more, like, zombie games.
08:34Right.
08:34You want to see it a fortify.
08:36Yeah, fortify stuff.
08:37Because that's, like, the first thing you're going to do, right,
08:38if you're in a real zombie.
08:40Sure, board everything up.
08:40Now, obviously, Sid and I are big Resident Evil fans,
08:43but for those out there that maybe haven't, you know,
08:45approached the franchise before or something,
08:46do you feel like this is a good title to start with?
08:48Mm-hmm.
08:48Definitely.
08:49I mean, this is almost the gen...
08:50Like, Resident Evil 2 is obviously the second game in the franchise,
08:53but really it's sort of the genesis of where a lot of the groundswell
08:56around the brand came up.
08:57So, again, if you haven't played this title before,
08:59the story is about Raccoon City is a midwestern town,
09:02a mysterious outbreak hits, zombies are everywhere.
09:05It's Leon, the guy with the RPD vest on here.
09:07It's his first day on the job as a cop,
09:09and he's basically coming to work, and what happened?
09:12There's zombies everywhere.
09:13He's finding his comrades or basically going through hell.
09:17And Claire Redfield, who is the other character in the game,
09:19she's a college student.
09:20She's looking for her brother, Chris, who works in the Special Forces.
09:23And they basically fates intersect,
09:25and you'll be able to sort of see each other's perspectives
09:28throughout the game, so...
09:29So now he's got the combat knife.
09:32Yes.
09:33So here we have our knife.
09:34Yeah.
09:35That we get from Marvin.
09:36Marvin, yes.
09:44There you go, kind of like the classic slash.
09:48Using the knife always reminds me, back in the day,
09:50it's like, you get a couple rounds inside the zombie,
09:53and then, like, just to make sure,
09:55you get a couple slashes on the ground.
09:56Because half the time, they'll come up and just, like, grab you as you walk by.
10:01This is not how I imagined it.
10:03So again, a lot of these rooms, especially this one, too,
10:05it's like, that door necessarily wasn't there in the first game,
10:08or the original RE2,
10:09but this room is super iconic for a lot of reasons.
10:12But it's not quite the same as you might remember it, too.
10:15If you turn this corner in the original game,
10:16you might have remembered something crawling by that window.
10:20It's not there anymore,
10:21but it takes a lot of different forms later.
10:22So again, we want to keep people on their toes.
10:25They expected that there, but we're going to move it,
10:27because we don't want you to know everything that's going to come up.
10:29Yeah, you can't have the dogs jumping out of the same window.
10:32ARRI's all about jump scares and getting people off their seats,
10:34so if they know everything that's coming, that's no fun.
10:36Now, I don't want you to spoil anything here,
10:38but I've played Resident Evil 2 quite a few times.
10:41Is there the same general sort of arc to the experience?
10:46There is, so I'd say that the story on the whole,
10:48here's a great shot of the RE Engine's proudest work here.
10:53It's pretty nasty.
10:54Crazy.
10:55Yeah, so the story as a whole, in general,
10:57you'll see a lot of the same things be happening,
10:59but again, it's not exactly the same.
11:01So you'll see characters that you might have just talked with very briefly.
11:05You'll get a little bit more backstory into there.
11:06Places that you just walked by in downtown Arakuan City,
11:08you're going to get a chance to go in there and play a little bit more.
11:11And you had mentioned Claire will be a playable character.
11:13Will that sort of cross over sort of, they had some,
11:16the ability to sort of interact with each other's storyline
11:19a little bit in the original game.
11:20Right, from time to time, so it's going to be slightly different
11:23because back in the day, it was a, we call it a zapping system.
11:26You could play A and B scenarios,
11:28but we wanted to have each character have their own separate campaign.
11:30They certainly will be crossing over, but it's going to be,
11:33you know, updated, modified for this new version of the game too, so.
11:36Awesome. This is looking great, guys.
11:40I'd love to sit here actually and do this for about another 15 or 20 minutes,
11:44but I think we actually got to get going.
11:46Okay.
11:47Which is a super bummer because it looks just awesome.
11:50And this is one of my, let's get this guy.
11:52Let's get him.
11:53He just wants some snacks, you know?
11:55Right.
11:56Just leave him be, that's fine too.
11:58All right.
11:58Leave him do his stuff.
12:00Very reluctantly, I will have to bid you farewell.
12:03Thank you so much for coming by.
12:04We don't have to wait very long to get our hands on it though, right?
12:06Yes, you're right. It comes out January 25th next year.
12:09Yes, yes.
12:10Please look forward to only a couple short months away.
12:12We do have this game playable at our Capcom security.
12:14Oh, actually one thing I wanted to mention at the end is this,
12:17you know, RAT, it's actually kind of the main concept of our,
12:20you know, announcement trader.
12:21So it started from like RAT view.
12:23So the one we showed at PlayStation Showcase is actually,
12:27you know, it's slightly different from the one uploaded on YouTube.
12:31Oh.
12:32So, you know, people actually, you know, if you guys are not,
12:34you haven't seen both versions, please, you know, enjoy it.
12:38All right.
12:39Thank you so much guys for coming by showing off Resident Evil 2,
12:42coming to PS4 in January.
12:43Coming up next, we have Trover Saves the Universe.
12:47That's the new PlayStation VR game from Justin Roiland and Squanch Games.
12:51And a look at Nioh 2.
12:54Stay with us.
12:56PlayStation.
