00:00A leatherback turtle rescued off Taiwan's east coast has died following surgery to remove an
00:05ingested fishing net. The turtle was discovered trapped and wounded over the weekend and was
00:10transferred to a rescue center for treatment. The vets found 160 centimeter long netting in
00:15its system and performed a four-hour surgery to remove it. The turtle was in stable condition
00:20afterwards but soon took a turn for the worse. Leatherback turtles are listed as endangered in
00:26Taiwan. A team of specialists will investigate the cause of death.
