00:10So in 2014 we came out with Second Son
00:13and about 6-7 months later we came out with First Light
00:15and then about a year from that PS4 Pro was starting to come out
00:19so we wanted to support that with Second Son
00:21and Fetch with First Light and all the cool laser bullets that come with that
00:25but behind the scenes what we were really working on
00:27was trying to figure out how do we make a new game
00:30like if we were going to depart from Infamous
00:33it's got to be awesome and what is the process to get there
00:36When we were looking at our next project we wanted to stay open world
00:39because we're giving authority power to the player
00:43and we didn't want to walk away from that
00:45we think it's integral to modern gaming that players are in charge
00:50and I think in true Sucker Punch fashion
00:52we answered that with hey what does everybody at the studio think
00:55and we had about I believe it was 70, 72 pitches
01:0072 ideas that kind of all formed up from various corners of the studio
01:04and we tried to coagulate that into like one idea
01:07turns out these things are really really hard
01:09We thought a lot about open world games
01:12and what makes some open world games just beautiful and great
01:16and we kind of settled on wanting to have a clear fantasy as the player
01:21like who are you, what are you going to be doing in the game
01:24and then we came upon this game idea which is awesomely simple
01:30right to hear about it is to want to play it
01:33who doesn't want to go to feudal Japan
01:35who doesn't want to be a samurai with a katana on their hip right
01:38When you tell somebody that you get to play as a samurai
01:42you don't really have to say anything else you just say that fantasy
01:45and everybody just builds a list of scenarios and narratives
01:48and gameplay scenes that you might get to play in that
01:53When we hit upon the Mongol invasion of Tsushima of 1274 it all clicked
01:59Suddenly you knew who the heroes were, who the villains were, what the stakes were for the world
02:04and you had a video game
02:07I'll ask you once again, samurai
02:10Do you surrender?
02:13Ghost of Tsushima is a action, stealth, adventure game
02:18where you play a samurai in feudal Japan
02:22and we're taking inspiration from the historical point in time
02:25where the Mongol army invaded the island of Tsushima
02:28all those locations are in-engine, they're in the world
02:32that's the place that you're going to defend
02:34a huge island filled with a lot of different places, towns, people
02:39there's so much to learn, there's so much to see
02:41I think player choice in this game will mean something very different than other games we've met in the past
02:46we really want you to have that choice of
02:48hey, that cool bamboo forest over there, I really want to check it out
02:52I want to head in that direction and I want to, you know, see what it is
02:55there's no waypoint, there's no thing that says, go here and look at this bamboo forest
02:59we just hopefully are presenting something that's beautiful and exotic
03:03that's different than the current place that you might be in
03:05and that will come at a world choice, right?
03:07like that's your adventure choice, like where do I want to go?
03:10In Infamous, we let you explore powers
03:12in this game, we let you explore what it is to be a samurai
03:15inside of this enormous landscape of medieval Japan
03:19you know, here at the studio sometimes we talk about the world as a character
03:22and I think that even in Second Son, we pushed really hard to make the flavors of the world come
03:27alive
03:28there's all these other elements that make you remember what it really felt like to be a tourist in this
03:32place
03:32and we're going to do the same thing for this game, starting with some of the shots that you see
03:35in the trailer
03:42we've been working on this game for, you know, three and a half years
03:45and it's exciting to be at a spot where we're finally able to share with the world what we've been
03:50working on
03:51and now it's just up to us to actually deliver this fantasy
03:54this wonderful fantasy about being a samurai in feudal Japan
