00:06We were drawn to Montana
00:07and I would say we fell in love with Montana
00:10first for its landscape
00:12It was all the variety of different locations
00:14that really hit us hard
00:16when we got to Montana and like this is gorgeous
00:17we need this in our game and that's exactly what we did
00:20we brought all that variation into our biomes
00:22into our vegetation and into the world
00:25It felt really like a wild space that we could own
00:28as a Far Cry game and we also looked at the animals
00:30that we could get there and we felt
00:32like it was exactly a match
00:34for a Far Cry space
00:35Everybody expects Far Cry 5 to be beautiful
00:38but on this project I think we really
00:40brought it to the next level in terms of quality and fidelity
00:42of what we saw in Montana
00:44bringing it back to our world
00:46When we set a game in Montana
00:48present day, in our own
00:50fictional Montana
00:51there are roads, there are houses
00:53and it's interesting to see players starting
00:56to play the game and see that they stick to roads
00:58for instance
00:59because it looks like home
01:01you start to behave like if you were home
01:04instead of crossing wilderness
01:06so it's interesting to see this new behavior
01:08that are related to that setting
01:10that's much closer to where we live
01:14So photogrammetry for us was a technique
01:16that we really had to use in order to get
01:18that extra details and realism in our assets
01:20so what photogrammetry is
01:22is that you take pictures around
01:24a certain subject, you go all around
01:26it, takes all the data of all the images
01:28and creates you a 3D object
01:29which you can then take in your engine
01:31and transfer it into the game
01:32so for us it was really changing the way we worked
01:36Being in Montana was a perfect opportunity
01:38for us to do photogrammetry
01:39we're already there taking pictures of the environment
01:41of the scenery, of how things grow
01:43and the results are gorgeous
01:45It was a lot of research
01:46we saw right away that fishing was
01:49like this really big thing
01:50this cultural thing that people
01:52really love to do over there
01:54Fly fishing was quite pleasant there
01:56and we said we should absolutely try to
01:58instill that in the game
02:00even if it's not a priority
02:01we should have it, it feels
02:03that it belongs to that space
02:05and we didn't just want to do the little simple fishing
02:08we went all out and we did like different types of lures
02:11different types of fishing rods
02:12different types of fish
02:14we really wanted to have a super deep
02:16fishing system
02:22We have somebody on our Toronto team
02:25who is a texture artist
02:25who comes from Montana
02:27and he sent me an email two weeks ago
02:29saying you guys nailed it
02:44and so you can hear that
02:44and so you can find a place
02:45that you can find a place
02:45and you can find a place
02:45that you can find
02:45that you need to find
