00:15and I am joined by the man himself, design director Josh Sawyer.

00:22For the backer beta.
00:24When does it start?
00:25Today!
00:27I'm sure all of you have plenty of questions about the backer beta, so we're here to answer a few
00:31of them for you.
00:37So, Josh, where will players be exploring in the backer beta?
00:40You're going to be exploring a little area of the Deadfire Archipelago known as Tikawara,
00:45which is a small village and the surrounding islands.
00:48But you won't be playing with the normal companions. You'll be playing with a different party. Why is that?
00:53Well, the companions are still in development. We don't want to spoil things in the backer beta.
00:59We still have to cast and record most of the companions, and the type of feedback that we try to
01:04get out of the backer beta
01:05isn't really focused on the companions themselves as much as core mechanics and interfaces and things like that.
01:12Is the backer beta feature complete?
01:14Nope. There's a number of things that we are not quite ready to show to players yet.
01:20And because of the size of the game and the sheer number of new features that we're putting in,
01:24we want to roll out some of that stuff over time.
01:26Do we have a roadmap for when features will be implemented into the backer beta?
01:30We do, but we're trying to be kind of flexible with that.
01:33Based on player feedback, we might roll out certain features sooner than others.
01:37And there's at least one really big feature that's very complicated,
01:40and we need to put some more time into it before players take a look at it, but it's a
01:43very cool feature.
01:45What kind of feedback are we looking for from backers while they're playing the backer beta?
01:49All sorts, but one of the main things we want feedback on are any of the new mechanics or systems
01:54that we've introduced in the Deadfire.
01:56So, for example, multi-classing and subclasses are two of the biggest features that we've put in.
02:01We really want to see how players use and kind of break those systems,
02:05things that we might not have looked for or planned for.
02:08We also are interested in feedback on any of the new mechanics like penetration
02:12that are a change from the old system.
02:15We hope that those mechanics are clear, but they might not be,
02:18and so getting feedback on that is really important.
02:20And, of course, any new interface changes that we've made
02:22because of usability is a big concern for us.
