00:00U.S. and Israeli strikes are continuing to pummel Tehran for a 17th consecutive day
00:05as Trump looks to assemble an international force to police the Strait of Hormuz.
00:11Spain has temporarily relocated its special forces from Iraq due to security concerns amid the Iran war.
00:20Preliminary results emerge in the first round of the French municipal elections held on Sunday
00:25after pulling across 35,000 municipalities.
00:30The U.S. and Israel are continuing to strike Iran as the war enters Day 17,
00:36with the Allies reporting major successes on the ground and a significant decline in Iranian combat power.
00:42The U.S. military's Central Command says it's carrying out daily attacks against critical military sites and infrastructure,
00:49which it says are being used to target Allies in the region in retaliatory strikes,
00:54as well as vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
00:57Attacks on the tight waterway have ground shipping and energy exports from the region to a halt
01:02and have sent oil prices in a spiral as Brent crude continues to trade at over $100 a barrel.
01:10U.S. President Donald Trump says he has demanded, quote,
01:12about seven countries to join a coalition to police the Strait and help escort stranded oil vessels out to resume
01:20energy supplies.
01:21It'd be interesting to see what country wouldn't help us with a very small endeavor,
01:28which is just keeping the Strait open in my comparison.
01:31It's small because Iran has very little firepower, like about seven, about seven.
01:38Uh-huh.
01:47Israel says it has so far struck over 2,000 targets and 10,000 munitions across Iran
01:53as it continues to identify new positions to attack daily.
01:57We have a plan for a safe fight and a standard plan.
02:01We have more than 1,000 targets in Iran, and we are creating new targets on the day.
02:05The government is already finished, and we continue to replace it more and more on the day.
02:10It's strong, and it's going to save it from its citizens.
02:13Meanwhile, Tehran is also claiming success on the ground,
02:17as it too says its attacks on Israel and across the region are proving effective.
02:22The death toll in Iran has now surged past 1,300,
02:26with officials noting that women and children make up at least 445 of the deceased.
02:32More than 820 people were killed in Lebanon, according to the Health Ministry,
02:37as the UN warns of an unfolding catastrophe,
02:40reporting that close to 1 million people have become displaced
02:44amid continued Israeli attacks on the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
02:48In Israel, 12 people have been killed in the war so far,
02:52while the US has suffered 13 fatalities of its service members in the region.
03:01As the conflict in the Gulf enters its third week,
03:04the United Arab Emirates are in close contact with European governance.
03:08Speaking to Euronews, Lana Nussebe, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
03:15welcomes the discussions with Europeans that have been among the most engaged international partners
03:21since the crisis began.
03:23We've been in frequent contact with different governments around the world since this has started,
03:28but I would say the Europeans have been incredibly supportive,
03:31not only because of the resident communities here that they are also trying to assist,
03:36but because of the strong partnerships and relationships that we have invested in over the years
03:41with European allies and partners.
03:44The region plays a critical role in global energy flows and maritime trade,
03:48making disruption likely to have far-reaching consequences for European economies.
03:54Nussebe said the UAE views its partnership with Europe as central to maintaining stability.
04:00In terms of energy supply, we are a responsible and committed supplier to the global energy market,
04:07and we will continue to do what we can.
04:08But we are also very frank with our partners, as have other suppliers in the region been,
04:14that unless UN Security Council Resolution 2817 is enforced,
04:19and it is binding on Iran that they abide by it,
04:22there are going to be ramifications, there are going to be implications.
04:27So it's important today that Europe understand,
04:31and this would be my message to my European friends and partners,
04:33first and foremost, thank you.
04:35We're grateful to you.
04:36We're grateful to the community of Europeans living here who call this place home.
04:39We're proud of the resilience and the adaptability that you've shown in these challenging times.
04:45We're proud, as our president has said,
04:47to call you partners of the UAE in our nation-building enterprise.
04:51But secondly, what you are defending here is not only the UAE.
04:54What you are defending here is a model.
04:57It's a model of coexistence, of tolerance, of peace for the wider region.
05:02But it's a model that also wants to export stabilization in commodities,
05:08in energy, and in security and peace.
05:11So if you're against those things,
05:14then you are in the camp of Iran and these rogue state actors
05:18that are trying to export nihilism to the whole international system.
05:22I don't think we can allow that to happen on our watch.
05:26Iran made a shift over the weekend,
05:28expanding its threats into civilian territory across the Gulf.
05:32Here in the UAE, they issued evacuation warnings to people nearby to three major ports,
05:39Jebel Ali port in Dubai,
05:41Khalifa port in Abu Dhabi,
05:43and Fajera port.
05:44Now, over the weekend, our financial district was hit by drone debris.
05:49In addition, this morning, DXB Dubai International Airport once again suffered a hit,
05:54resulting in the complete closure of the airport, no inbound or outbound flights.
05:59We are told they're slowly resuming as the day goes on.
06:02A couple of hours ago, a drone strike in Abu Dhabi hit a civilian car, resulting in one death.
06:09And just a few moments ago, we're hearing of reports of black smoke plumes billowing above
06:14Um al-Quaim, which is one of our nearby emirates.
06:17Now, the U.S. made military precision strikes over the weekend on Karg Island in Iran.
06:23Now, that handles around 90% of their crude oil export.
06:28And while it's said that the oil infrastructure was not hit,
06:32U.S. President Donald Trump did make a statement saying he may hit the island again just for fun.
06:38Now, the UAE has hit back at those claims that those U.S. strikes originated from UAE territory.
06:46And our presidential advisor, Dr Anwar Gargash, took to his social media this morning and over the weekend
06:52and said that those claims are part of a confused policy that has misdirected its aim,
06:58lost its compass and forsaken wisdom.

07:08Spain has temporarily relocated its special forces from Iraq due to security concerns,
07:14which make it impossible to continue operations safely.
07:17The ministry did not specify where the forces were relocated to.
07:23The decision followed Thursday's fatal drone attack on a French military base in the Erbil region of Iraq.
07:29French President Emmanuel Macron slammed Iran and called the attack unacceptable.
07:35He stressed that French forces were deployed strictly for counterterrorism operations
07:40and that the war in Iran cannot justify such strikes.
07:44Italy also evacuated personnel from a base near Erbil International Airport
07:49after a drone struck the base last week.
07:52No Italian troops were injured.
07:55Spain deploys roughly 300 military personnel in Iraq
07:58as part of the International Coalition Against the Islamic State Group.
08:03The country has maintained a continuous presence in Iraq since 2015.
08:12In most French town halls, well, the outcome of the first round of the local election is clear.
08:19About two-thirds of them should have elected a mayor by Sunday night,
08:25often because there was little to no competition.
08:29But in major cities, well, the battle remains open
08:32and could lead to high-stakes run-offs next Sunday.
08:37In Paris, polls show the socialist candidate Emmanuel Grégoire
08:42ahead of conservative candidate Rashida Dati during this first round.
08:47In other major cities like Marseille and Lyon,
08:51well, the top candidates are currently neck and neck in this first round.
08:56So that means that in these cities, well, alliances will be crucial before next Sunday.
09:02And some political leaders have already set red lines.
09:07For example, French President Emmanuel Macron's Renaissance Party,
09:11as well as Olivier Faure, the leader of the Socialist Party,
09:16have all excluded any alliance with the hard-left France unbowed.
09:21Meanwhile, the hard-left France unbowed party is calling for left-wing unity
09:27in cities where the right or the far-right could win.
09:31The second round will take place next Sunday,
09:34deciding control of the city halls across France,
09:38with national implications ahead of the country's presidential election next year.
09:46An investigation by German news agency DPA has reported that the EPP,
09:50the European Parliament's largest conservative group,
09:53has been working closely with far-right members in order to pass tougher migration laws.
09:58Research into private WhatsApp logs and face-to-face meetings
10:01indicated that cooperation between the EPP and parties like Germany's AFD
10:05is far deeper than previously admitted.
10:07The draft migration law, which proposes deporting asylum seekers to return hubs
10:13in countries outside the EU, had been stuck for months
10:16after the Social Democrats refused to back it.
10:19To break the deadlock, the EPP reportedly presented its proposal
10:23to the right-wing populist ECR, Patriots for Europe,
10:26and the Europe of Sovereign Nations group, to which the AFD belongs.
10:30The logs show the EPP even accepted amendments from AFD politician Mary Khan
10:35specifically regarding medical tests to determine the age of asylum seekers.
10:40EPP leader Manfred Weber did not deny the existence of chat logs,
10:44but dismissed their political relevance,
10:46claiming he does not control staff chat groups.
10:49While the committee majority is seen as a breakthrough for the Return Hub roadmap,
10:54critics warned the move could violate fundamental human rights
10:57and permanently shatter the parliament's firewall against the far-right.
