Hungary opens fairy tale themed 4.5-hectare corn maze for visitors to explore

Since 2008, a group of enthusiastic locals has been picking up hoes and measuring tools each year to create one of the region's biggest attractions.

00:00A popular attraction in Hungary is attracting thousands to wander through a cornfield near the Romanian border,
00:07a local initiative that has created Central Europe's largest corn maze.
00:13This year the organizers carved fairy tale characters, a castle and a unicorn into the 4.5 hectare cornfield in
00:19Kisombor.
00:40Children are given a map to help them find their way, but the challenge is still far from easy.
00:46The 2.5 km maze is full of dead ends, making it easy to lose your bearings.
01:00The maze was first created 18 years ago by volunteers from the Kis Maria Hortensia Local Heritage Association,
01:06with the aim of attracting visitors to an area facing depopulation.
01:11Since then between 2 and 3 thousand people have come here each year to try traditional folk skill games and
01:17lose themselves among the corn.
01:35The corn maze will be open to visitors until the 22nd of August.
