Seth and Sean discuss the new Titans logo and uniforms. Tennessee seems to think they're living in Houston's head over the color, but it's actually Houston living rent free in the Adams family's heads.
Transcript
00:00The Titans unveiled their new uniforms, Tennessee Titans, and these aren't just a version of their
00:07Titan uniforms. These are brand new uniforms they're going to wear in every game. So this
00:11isn't the color rush. This isn't the equivalent of the Texans head-to-toe battle red uniforms.
00:16These are the new uniforms. So whatever history the Titans have had with the old
00:20dark blue scheme, with the Titans logo that had the flame shooting out the back of it,
00:26Gonzo, they are basically now wearing the Oilers uniforms with a Tennessee, you know,
00:34the T inside of a circle in place of the oil, Derek. Yeah. It's, it's, it's basically like you
00:40went to AI, took the Oilers uniforms and said, replace the oil, Derek, with a T inside of a
00:46blue circle. And that's what they did. And they're good looking uniforms. I hadn't even thought about,
00:53you know, the fact that, yeah, the old logo obviously would have been like the, the biggest
00:59defense of all, I guess, because that's, that's the Oilers uniform or it wouldn't make any sense
01:03in Tennessee either. Um, but, uh, yeah, this was, uh, this is funny because I feel like, I feel like
01:10people in Tennessee who might not even in their heart of hearts really like that the Texans are
01:14going back or that the Titans are going back to the Oilers uniform. I feel like they're entrenched
01:20and they, they're upset that anybody in Houston might be upset about the uniform choice. Yes. So
01:27they're there. It's making them love it. Even though beforehand they might've said, no, we don't
01:31want all the Oilers stuff. The Titans, the Titans are the team that we watched go to the Superbowl.
01:36The Titans are the team that, that we've known ever since they were, they were, when they were in
01:41Memphis, they were still the Oilers, right? By the time they moved to Nashville, they were the Tennessee
01:45Oilers in 97 and 98. The first two years in Tennessee, I played against the Tennessee Oilers
01:51and even I, as somebody who played against the Tennessee Oilers think that this is trying a
01:56little too hard, you know, to go back to something that nobody in the state of Tennessee, actually
02:01nobody in Tennessee is nostalgic about those days up at the Liberty bowl in Memphis. No,
02:06that one lost season up there. They were awful. And I, and I don't know how many, I know,
02:11I do know of people that followed them, not literally, but like their fandom followed them
02:17to Tennessee. Not many, most of the people I know are Houston Texan fans, but I know of
02:21a few, I have a couple of friends who still root for the team up there. I don't know how
02:24you can do it. My equivalent of that is I grew up a Hartford Whalers fan and they up and
02:28moved
02:29to Carolina and became the Carolina hurricanes. And I don't, I want nothing to do with any of
02:33the history or any of the heritage or when Carolina has Whaler night, I don't, I ignore
02:39it. I don't, you know, I have friends that actually fly in to go to Whaler night down
02:43in Carolina. I'm like, what are you doing? They abandoned our city. And I think it's
02:46the same thing here. You know, the, the Oilers abandoned Houston to go to Tennessee. The notion,
02:51the notion that, that you've got people who are native Tennessee folks who don't care at
02:57all about the Oilers, I think is an accurate one. I did see, I saw two things for the most
03:02part, Tennessee people who feel a little, uh, put out that they just completely flushed
03:11the tight, what the Titans had been uniform wise down the toilet and made them the Oilers.
03:16And then the, the second kind of faction that I saw was yes, Titan fans who liked the new
03:22uniforms. It seems mostly because it pisses Houston off more so than they'd love the uniforms.
03:27Yeah. So, yeah. And it's, uh, and then I think if you're a Houstonian, who's angry about
03:32it, uh, you shouldn't feel any shame. If somebody says you mad bro online, they said, it's okay
03:37to say, yeah, I'm mad. Yeah. Yeah. It was a, what is it legal to be mad online these days?
03:43Yeah. There was a lot of that. I feel like, uh, some people in the social media world don't
03:47realize, um, yes, if somebody gets under your skin or something, if an individual does, all
03:52right, you take that as an L on social media. That doesn't mean that you're not allowed to
03:56be angry at something in life in general. Okay. Yeah. There's a, the, uh, most of the
04:02people are saying, are you mad bro or whatever are themselves deeply unhappy inside? Yes.
04:06I want people to weigh in on the base power text line on this. Um, the Titans, someone
04:11says the Titans tee looks too much like the Tesla tee that the Adams family is going to
04:15get sued by Elon Musk. Oh, that would be awesome. That would be amazing. Great. That would be
04:21incredible. Get her. Yes. Um, here's a, I think Jared Stillman, who it is the, the actual
04:27T shape didn't change at all. It's just, it's more prominent now because you can see just
04:31that to you. It's the same T it's been since before Tesla was founded. Yeah. It's just,
04:36and it's just a circle around it. Now it doesn't have the flames shooting out the back of it
04:39like it used to. Um, Jared Stillman is a streamer on YouTube. Who's a Titans fan. He's
04:45on a bad dog radio as well on Sirius XM. I think he kind of encapsulates the native Tennessean
04:51who has no care at all about the Oilers history, how they feel about this. I hate the new uniforms
04:57because they are the Oilers uniforms with three stars on it. And the word Titans instead of
05:04Oilers. That's it. I hate the new uniforms because what I feel like it represents what I feel like
05:12is happening here. And that we, the people of Nashville, the people that had NFL yes signs
05:20in our front yard. We, the people that demanded Bud Adams, not name the team, the Oilers. We,
05:26the people that packed the then Adelphia Coliseum. We, the people that went down to Atlanta, Georgia
05:33in an ice storm and watch our football team lose by one yard. We, the people that took pride
05:38and being so loud those first couple of years that teams were committing false starts and we
05:45are all just being kicked to the curb and we're being kicked to the curb because even after 30 years
05:54of being the Titans, I guess Amy Adams Strunk and the Adams family has just never gotten over
06:04their divorce from the city of Houston. Thank you. Yeah. That's exactly right. Okay. I have an
06:11unpopular take about this, Sean. Okay. And, uh, popular with who? Uh, I don't know with anybody
06:16that's, uh, that just think this is all just Amy Adams Strunk trying to stick it to the Houston,
06:21the city of Houston. Okay. Um, I do think that Amy Adams Strunk for all her faults as an owner,
06:28uh, and I'm not going to hold her responsible for the sins of her father. I think she does have
06:34a
06:34genuine love and affection for the players that she grew up watching with the Oilers. Oh,
06:39there's no question. And so when it comes to like Alvin Bethea, Ken Houston, Robert Brazil,
06:45like those guys, you know, Bruce Matthews and Mike Menchek don't count because they were part of the
06:49Titans also. So those guys, those guys get plenty of love. They cross over. Yeah. But I do, I see
06:54this
06:55with, with great players whose teams move cities. All they're almost all of a sudden like orphans
07:02that did all these great things for the franchise, but the people in the new city don't really adopt
07:09them and love them the way that they would in Houston with the Houston Oilers. If the,
07:14if the Oilers were still here, Warner is an orphan, right? People in LA don't care all that much about
07:20Kurt Warner, right? And, uh, you know, just like people in St. Louis didn't care all that much about
07:25some of the Dickerson or some of the great all time Rams. Yep. Um, so I think that that part
07:32of
07:32it, I think is a little bit more complicated than, Oh, it's Amy Adams wanting to stick it to Houston.
07:37I think it's also Amy Adams wants those guys to maybe feel like more of a part of the franchise
07:42still. And for current fans to be able to look at some of those pictures of the old guys and
07:47say,
07:47Oh, Oh, look at Robert Brazil. That's fine. I just, okay. Counterpoint to that. And I'm kind of,
07:54I'm kind of siding with Jared Stillman here, which is okay. That's fine. Put them in the ring of honor,
07:59have an oiler day to swap out the entire uniform. If that's your motivation to make sure that Robert
08:05Brazil feels at home is a, is a pretty drastic move. Yeah. If part of your, if party, if, if,
08:11if a big enough part of that fan base feels alienated at all by this. And I think at the
08:15end of the day,
08:16look at the end of the day, I just like my team to wear cool looking uniforms. I don't get
08:20attached
08:20to a certain uniform. I just want them to wear cool uniforms. For example, when the Rockets won
08:25the two championships back in the nineties in the ketchup and mustard uniforms, which are awesome,
08:30iconic. Those are the original rocket uniforms that I remember rooting for that team in. And then
08:36they switched to those silly dark blue pinstripe cartoon rocket, big baggy shorts right after winning
08:46two championships in those. Like that was a bad, that to me was a, was a bad move uniform. I
08:51just
08:51want my team to look good. I think the uniforms look fantastic. This is cause the other thing that
08:56people bring up is like, Hey, look, look at all these other teams like the Colts or the Rams or
09:02whomever else where it's largely the same uniform. They don't change it all that much. They change cities
09:07and they keep the same uniform for another decade or what have you. Those teams do it all the time.
09:11Yes. I agree. However, the difference is to Houstonians, I think it feels like, all right,
09:19you went, you changed your entire look, you changed your uniform completely. And now you're
09:25trying to take it back. They're like, if your, if your wife does, your wife goes back to her maiden
09:30name after you divorce her, but then all of a sudden you become famous or something. And she's like,
09:34Oh no, by the way, I, uh, no, I'm taking your last name again. I like that. I like the
09:39name
09:39rock. I like that analogy. Yeah. I like that. Hold on a second. I thought we were divorced.
09:44Well, the elephant in the room too, is the timing of all of it. Like they had put the
09:49oiler uniforms in mothballs for years. And then in 2023, all of a sudden they dust them off
09:54when they know that the Texans are going to be releasing new uniforms within the next few months
10:00that have that H town blue in them. Like, I don't think it's a coincidence that Amy Adam Strunk all
10:05of a
10:05sudden is making the oil or color scheme a thing in 2023 had been sitting on a shelf for two
10:12decades.
10:13And, you know, it's six months before the Texans or however many months, five months before they're
10:17revealing their new uniforms that have hints of that blue or close to it in them. Hey, we're going
10:22to be the Oilers. You know, we're, we're going to, we're going to have two games over the Oilers.
10:25She's like a dog who is sitting next to a, a, a food dish that was full of food, but
10:31all of a sudden
10:31somebody comes close to the food dish, right? Yeah. Now I'm hungry. Yeah. Snarling, snarling at
10:37you. Right. So she's snarling at her Oilers uniform food dish. Yes. She's a snarling dog that
10:44Amy Adam Strunk. Um, some of the stupidity. Oh my God. Some of the stupidity from these Tennessee
10:50people. Let me read this. Let me read this tweet. This is from Taylor Hurst. He's a at Titans man,
10:5697. Doesn't matter how much they whine or how much they cry. No amount of complaining or wallowing
11:03in self-pity and misery will change a thing. One fact remains the Oilers Titans history are forever
11:10solidified under one franchise and it's not the Texans. They will never return to Houston.
11:16That ship has sailed. Amy set that in stone this week and I'm grateful to her for it because I
11:24no
11:24longer have to defend it. It's who we are and who we've always been. Good job with that straw man,
11:31bro. Oh, you don't have to, you don't have to worry about the Oilers returning to the Titans
11:35returning to Houston again, huh? I retweeted and I said, wait, that's the dumbest person who's ever
11:40lived and used chat GPT to craft a tweet about a moving back to Houston. That sounds like chat GPT.
11:46Yes. That's a, that's something that AI would create that, uh, that, that person did not write
11:51that. I refuse to believe that that person is that stupid. If they're a genuine Titans fan to say
11:56that that's what he takes from this, like, Oh, don't worry, everybody. We know for sure. They're
12:01not going back to Houston because they changed back to a Houston. Hey, we need to timestamp this.
12:08This is the first time you've ever given somebody from Tennessee, the benefit of the doubt on being
12:12stupid. No, but I didn't even realize how stupid it was until I said it out loud. Yeah. Cause it's
12:17not just, okay. Hey, that ship has sailed. So there was no fear about the Oilers. There's no fear
12:23about the Titans going back to Houston, but that B, if there were such a fear, I don't think that
12:28changing back to the Oilers Jersey is the thing that would make me feel like they're not going back
12:34to Houston. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's a, that's an astounding amount of stupidity. Yeah. So many levels
12:39there was a, there, I saw a lot of this too, that, um, of Titan fans saying things like, um,
12:46say, Oh, here it is. Uh, this is another Titans fan, TLT sports talk. So why don't the Rockets
12:51Astros or Cougs have this color? If it's so near and dear to y'all's heart, never even seen a
12:57city
12:57try to lay claim to an effing color. Y'all weird, man. I had to remind this particular person that
13:02dude,
13:03it's your owner that is suing people over this color. Suing educational institutions.
13:10Yes. I know they don't have a look. I understand in Tennessee, you guys don't hold higher education
13:14in very high regard. You know, you have to import a bunch of students to go to Vanderbilt. And by
13:19other than that, it's pretty much like, Oh, you got through seventh. Huh? Good job. Time to go,
13:24time to go to work, marry your cousin. Yeah. So, uh, but, but still, I feel like even in Tennessee,
13:30they'd have to think that suing a public university for intellectual property rights
13:35is a little bit extreme. And yet she did. Yes. You, she laid claim, uh, to ownership of that
13:41color. I also don't like being, again, we've already established Tennessee doesn't care much
13:46for thinking and such. And yet I'm being lectured about intellectual property laws by a bunch of
13:51Tennessee people. Oh, it did. It turned into a back and forth. Like you, cause I screen grabbed,
13:56I Googled it, screen grabbed the Google. And so it showed, yes, she sued. Here are the institutions
14:03that she sued. And the reply from this droglodyte who I was going back and forth with was, it says
14:09right there that they were getting sued because they were trying to make replica uniforms.
14:14I'm like, no, it was about the color. Nobody was trying to make an oilers uniform.
14:18Oh, he read the highlight. He read the headline. Yeah. He read the headline. That was a little
14:23inaccurate. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, text messages on this, uh, from the base power text line.
14:29Um, I was born in 1998, so I have literally no attachment to, I hate this text page. I have
14:35no
14:35attachment to those colors. Also, uh, also, uh, if the Titans came back, I think they would,
14:43ah, nevermind. I hate the text page. Someone just says, I don't give a bleep about the oilers.
14:48I think we lack the technology to, uh, yeah, this is a Tennessee level.
14:52There are approximately, uh, give me the over under Sean. What, how many students at Vanderbilt
14:59are from the state of Tennessee? Oh, okay. Vanderbilt high admission standards. A lot of
15:03smart people there. Private institution. Yeah. It's private, right? Probably. I don't know.
15:08Well, that makes a difference. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. Yeah. Public would mean
15:12you get state tuition. Um, I would say, uh, what's, what's Joe, you're just asking the percentage.
15:18I would say from the state of Tennessee. No, no, I'm asking the total number. Well,
15:21I don't know how many go there. What's 7,300 undergrads, 7,300 undergrad. I would say that
15:25there are 400 people from the state of Tennessee, 133. Wow. A 400 and I overshot it. Wow. Yeah.
15:33That is pathetic. Does it say which state has the most or is it just a very diverse, uh, Illinois
15:41has under 26. It makes sense. It makes sense. Oh, Chicago kids going down there. Um, best
15:47comment of the day so far from Seth. He got through seventh grade. Congratulations. Go get
15:52a job and marry your cousin. Uh, you just said that Seth. Um, well then, no, I mean, that's
15:59not even something that's untrue. They had, uh, Ben, do you have the clip of that? Uh, the,
16:04his first cousin marriage will probably be illegal soon in Tennessee. I forgot it was
16:15that good. That was the headline of the local news. First cousin. Play it again. I know we've
16:21played that on the show before, but it hits different right now with us talking about these
16:24people. First cousin marriage will probably be illegal soon in Tennessee. And that's a resolution.
16:32You can tell that that's from a, that's from a news report that was on television. That's not
16:36from like back in the day where they pull out some scroll in the middle of the town square
16:40in the 1800s. That was recent. Oh my God. Cause remember there was, uh, how many weddings do you
16:47think? How many weddings do you think got canceled because of that, that, uh, that ruling coming out?
16:51Oh, I know. Yeah. Well, or they got, they probably tried to sneak in under the deadline.
16:55Yeah. You know, uh, I don't think they could put that one up to referendum that can, you know,
17:03they, you can't have a referendum on whether or not they should make first cousin, whoever
17:06wanted to push that through, it was like, God, no, we can't make this a referendum. The, the people
17:11will vote. There'll be a landslide victory for first cousin marriage. You got to force that. You
17:15got to force that legislation. Everybody's going to be out there with their, their cousin's
17:20spouses and their uncle mommies and all that. Yeah. Roadkill and whatnot. Yes. Uh, Sean,
17:26you just depressed me bringing up the rocket uniform change. Thanks for this dumb ass oiler
17:31uniform segment, Sean. Thanks. Exclamation point. I think you're being, uh, you, you're,
17:37you needed this. You're happy. I guess we've reached a happy, I guess an unhappy compromise,
17:42uh, in terms of using the Columbia blue. Cause the Texans aren't allowed to use Columbia blue,
17:47but they use one that's close to it. Well, it's a, it's a, it's H town blue and it ain't
17:52Columbia blue, but it's close enough that you know what it means. Yeah, exactly. And I don't
17:56know if I look, I don't know if you're like this texture who feels like, thanks for depressing
18:01me with this segment. Or if you're here for this, I, there's another, there was enough
18:04engagement going on this weekend where a lot of people was a big, big topic. It was trending
18:08on the Chronicle, the whole nine yards. It was a big topic from the weekend. It's going
18:12to die down. Just know that the Texans, the Texans have another version of their uniform
18:16coming out sometime here in the next several months, the rivalry uniform, which I, I, I
18:23guarantee you has H town blue in it. So this is all going to, this is all going to pop
18:28up
18:28again. All the Tennessee people are going to go, ha ha. See, we revealed this new uniform.
18:33So you had to, you know, you had to, we're renting space in your brain. So you had to come
18:37up with a proportional response when in fact, this uniform has already been in the making
18:41for a while now. How do you like the new Titans logo? It's much more simplified for those
18:46of you haven't seen. It's just more simplified. It looks like something out of the 1970s.
18:49Yeah. Yeah. If they got the big thing was, they got rid of the flames shooting out the
18:53back of it. I, I'm fine with it. It looks fine. I think that's the trend is more towards
18:57the simplest, simplified retro type of logos now, which I guess is in line with, uh, I,
19:03Gen Z gets different types of tattoos than we do. And it seems like they're more, they're
19:08simple, they're smaller than, than what Gen X and the millennials, uh, yeah. Yep.
