00:03Hello, I'm Paul from Mode 7 and this is Frozen Synapse 2.
00:06This video is intended to give you an overview of the early part of the game
00:09and also describe what the game is about.
00:12And its nefarious purpose is to get you to wishlist this on Steam
00:15if you would like to have a look at our development updates
00:19and if you'd like to just stay in touch with us for when we release the game
00:22which hopefully will be extremely soon.
00:23So this game is inspired by an older title called XCOM Apocalypse.
00:27You're a force that has been sent into this city, the city of Markovgeist
00:31to defend it against incursions by a mysterious force that is coming in from the outside
00:36and threatening the integrity of the city.
00:39Now there are various different factions within the city.
00:42We can see the areas they control here and you have to keep all of them happy.
00:46They all have their own agenda.
00:48And finally there are, this is a bit buggy, currently different districts
00:51and the districts also fund you.
00:53So when nasty things happen in the district they'll get annoyed with you
00:56and call you up to try and help out with them.
00:59So I'm just going to advance time quickly to show you the first thing that happens in the game.
01:04So we have an incursion that has arrived here conveniently very close to our base.
01:08And this is the district governor for this district new core teker
01:12and he is asking you to go in and deal with it.
01:15I'm going to be skipping story for the sake of spoilers.
01:18So the first thing I want to do is head over to the mercenary market here
01:21and take a look at the mercenaries that are available.
01:24Now in this game you are using cloned mercenaries.
01:26So if they die they regenerate at your base after a period of time
01:29and you have to basically license the rights to them from this market here.
01:35So I'm going to take I think a knife here.
01:40I'm going to assign that mercenary and add it to my strike team
01:43and then I'm going to send the strike team off to deal with this incursion.
01:47Now the game gets a lot more complicated as you go on and I will be showing you some of
01:52that later.
01:53So we're going to attack the incursion in this building.
01:56Now the incursion force will pop up in different areas of the city
01:59and it's also going to be revealing the location of these objects called relics.
02:02All of the factions want relics.
02:04When a faction gets a relic it massively boosts its power and its money
02:09and its ability to do various things in the city.
02:11So here you can see we're zooming down into one of the buildings
02:14and you can do this to any building in the city whatsoever and also any intersection on the roads.
02:20So if you've played Frozen Synapse 1 you'll remember the procedurally generated levels we had there.
02:25These levels are a lot more complex.
02:27Some of them use preset areas like this part of this level, this restaurant is preset
02:31and then randomly generated areas around them like this car park
02:35and other levels are fully randomly generated.
02:38Generally when playing the game you'll see a lot of very different stuff.
02:42So this is a simple level to get you into the game and into the combat.
02:46I'm just going to aim here and take out this unit.
02:48You can see there the focus diamond.
02:50That gives me an advantage if I predict where the unit's going to be within it.
02:54This is an assault rifle unit and this is a pistol unit so I'm expecting that to go very much
02:59my way.
02:59I'm also going to unlock this building by moving to the zone here.
03:02You can see this area is currently invisible to my satellite
03:06and the windows have a force field around them as do the doors.
03:11So I need to unlock that and that's basically to allow us to give some level flow.
03:15The knife unit is kind of a silly unit but I will just bring that in there just in case.
03:20Now this game is very much a culmination of our work on Frozen Synapse 1 with its tactical combat
03:25and on Frozen Cortex with some of the wider systemic stuff we did there
03:29introducing variation to the units and things like marketplaces and other systems.
03:34This game is hoping to basically create what we're calling an open world tactics game.
03:40So you can make a lot of your own choices in terms of how you approach things,
03:43where you go, how you engage with factions and so on.
03:45But there is also a linear story that runs through the game explaining why the city is as it is
03:51and explaining some of the background behind this incursion force
03:54and the relationship that you have to other factions in the city.
03:57Okay, so we made a good decisive move through there taking out that pistol.
04:01The pistols can beat assault rifles in some situations so we do have to be a tiny bit careful
04:06but hopefully we're going to do okay here.
04:08I don't know what to do with my knife unit.
04:10I think I might run them through here and just duck them down there
04:14to provide a bit of a distraction.
04:16They're very fast but they're not very powerful and most bullet-based units can shoot them
04:20so it may get taken out there.
04:22It's largely there for fun.
04:26Okay, so those pistols are backing off into there.
04:29I think what I'm going to do is bring a unit around the outside.
04:32So I'm going to put on this feature.
04:33This is the long turns feature
04:34and that basically means the turn ends at the end of my longest plan.
04:38So if I make this plan for a unit here, I can bring them around, strafe them in there like
04:42this.
04:43I'll also bring this unit here, start aiming, probably start aiming at that point
04:48and then bring them through to here.
04:50We'll get the knife involved as well just to see if they can do anything useful.
04:55I doubt they will.
04:56Let's prime that turn.
04:58We are currently at the stage of balancing the game
05:01so we're not really adding features anymore
05:03and also there are quite a few bugs still left to deal with.
05:07So as soon as all of that is done, we will be releasing the game
05:10and that should be very, very soon.
05:12I don't want to give you an exact date yet
05:14because I don't know if we're going to be ready to do that by the time this video comes out.
05:18If we have, then I will look slightly foolish.
05:21All right, coming around the side there, just about to get a view in.
05:24Again, it's the benefit of long turns.
05:26We can catch them kind of turtling in there.
05:28I'll bring that around and I'll run the knife in just to see if we get any knife kills.
05:39Ah, we did get a knife kill.
05:40Excellent.
05:41Okay.
05:41So now we've completed the mission, you can see here there's a relic,
05:44one of the items that the incursion force is trying to uncover.
05:47We can end the mission and we'll automatically pick up any objects
05:51that we uncovered during the course of that mission.
05:55So the district are going to be happy with that because we got there very quickly
05:59and your funding from them depends on how fast you deal with things.
06:03So eventually you're going to want to have bases kind of around the city.
06:06You can see the city is fairly large.
06:09So by the end of the game, you'll have a few bases around
06:12and you'll be rushing to deal with things.
06:14You have multiple viable squads.
06:15All right.
06:16So we're going to send our strike team back to base now
06:17and we're also going to look and see if we have any new mercenaries available.
06:21and at that level, okay, well, I think I might do a contract actually
06:25and see if I can boost my money up a little bit.
06:29This is quite challenging.
06:31You can see the military level of the contract here
06:33dealing with this raiders force who are making trouble in the city.
06:37I could do a checkpoint, but I have to wait there for a long time
06:39and I probably don't have time to do that.
06:42And here, this is a simple delivery job, which I can take.
06:47I think I'm going to take the delivery job just to play it safe
06:49so I don't get annihilated in the early stage of the game.
06:52And I'm going to just wait until I've done that in order to get my new mercenaries.
06:59Now, delivery jobs can sometimes be attacked by other factions quite rarely.
07:04This is just some extra story stuff that you'll get between missions.
07:07I don't think I'm going to be attacked currently, so that's good news.
07:11So we're up to 38.
07:12I don't think that tips me into the ability to take any other particularly exciting units.
07:17So what am I going to do here?
07:19I'm going to take the flamethrower.
07:20The flamethrower is a pretty good mid-tier unit.
07:22And I'm going to add that to my squad.
07:24So already we're getting a decent squad.
07:26I could have cut the knife unit there and perhaps pay for something a bit better,
07:30but I didn't feel like doing that.
07:32So let's fast forward time again.
07:33Okay, so here a district is calling me up and asking me to stop a particular venture.
07:40So factions basically do things of their own accord, which are called ventures.
07:44They intervene in the city and do various things.
07:46And here the religious faction Blue Sunlight is performing religious education
07:49at a learning center, which some of the districts and the other factions don't like.
07:53So what we could do is agree to this and we'll go and attack them.
07:56We'll get a bonus from the district,
07:58but Blue Sunlight will then probably get very annoyed with us.
08:00I'm going to decline that at the start of the game.
08:03We don't want to get into a huge war.
08:05And we can see that they've decreased their funding to us by a little bit there.
08:09So we might have to consider doing jobs for them in the future.
08:12Once you have relics, you can activate them, basically secure them at your base,
08:16and then other factions can't take them.
08:18But occasionally factions will chase you for the relics that you get.
08:21I'm just going to hang out here for now, I think, until the next incursion.
08:25So factions will just introduce themselves to you.
08:27This is Diamond Brothers, the banking faction, and they are explaining a bit of their history.
08:32They basically were involved with reconstructing the city.
08:35They injected a lot of capital into it at that time, and now they own a lot of things.
08:39And he is commenting on the fact that we did that delivery mission well.
08:43So the factions are generally aware of what you do, and they'll make comments about it, which is kind of
08:47nice.
08:48All right.
08:48So we're still hanging out here.
08:51That's just telling us that we installed the relic, which is good.
08:53Still hanging out here.
08:55Going to wait to see if the...
08:57Okay.
08:57So Blue Sunlight actually finished that venture that we were told to stop.
09:01And we also learned that Guest, the kind of hacker faction, are out doing some surveillance.
09:06And that may or may not be popular with other factions or districts.
09:09If we wanted to annoy Guest, if we wanted to undermine them, we could go and attack this venture.
09:14Just looking at the factions now, we can see Guest aren't doing too well.
09:18Their military strength isn't too high, and they don't have too many buildings either.
09:23So essentially, we could go and sort of attack them and maybe take their money if we were feeling particularly
09:29nasty.
09:30But we're going to play sort of relatively straight up in this game.
09:34Okay.
09:35So another incursion has appeared here, and this is at a library.
09:40So we're going to send our new squad with the flamethrower over there to deal with it and just see
09:43how we get on.
10:00Okay, so in this mission, we're not currently aware of...
10:03Sorry, these units are not currently aware of our presence.
10:06So we can actually see what they're going to do.
10:08We can use our magical prediction algorithm to see what they're going to do.
10:11So this enables us to set up a deployment, which might mean we can take advantage of that.
10:19So you can't deploy in the lot, and you can't deploy in enemy line of sight.
10:22So if I can perhaps aim through here...
10:26Can I get that unit?
10:27Yeah, I get an advantage to that.
10:31Could refine that, but I can't really be bothered.
10:33This is just an SMG here, so I think I can probably get in there and deal with them.
10:40Okay, so by that point, they are going to be...
10:44Oops.
10:46They're going to be more over there, I think.
10:50I got that wrong.
10:51They're going to be more over here.
10:54See if I can get the focus.
10:56Yeah.
10:57Good.
10:58And then off flamethrower, we will just start here and perhaps run them in...
11:02Run them into there without too much trouble.
11:08Yes.
11:09Although we don't want to get into trouble with that shotgun there.
11:12So I'm just going to position them there.
11:13And finally, the knife unit will zoom them in for a bit of a close range action.
11:21They almost get to that assault rifle in time.
11:23Okay, let's see how that pans out.
11:32Okay, so we didn't manage to get this assault rifle, and we didn't manage to stop them killing
11:38those civilians, which is unfortunate, but that's not mission critical at this point.
11:41So we're doing okay.
11:42But we are in a decent position here.
11:43I'm going to bring the flamethrower here and see if I can perhaps shoot through there.
12:00Okay, that's good.
12:01We managed to get a decent shot off through that window.
12:13Oh, okay.
12:14We managed to take out the shotgun via the medium of flamethrower, and I think we've tricked
12:20that assault rifle pretty adequately into coming through there.
12:24If they back off now, they're going to get flamethrown, but I'll just pop that unit in there just in
12:30case that should hold them in place.
12:31I think they'll be a bit terrified of that knife unit running through there.
12:35They may try and turtle and back off.
12:38Ah, yes.
12:38Okay, good.
12:39So we trapped them in there.
12:40Pretty satisfying.
12:42Okay, we are now back on the map.
12:45The district, again, was happy with us.
12:47We did pretty well.
12:47So we're going to run back now.
12:49I don't know if we're going to get challenged for our relic.
12:51Relic looked like Guest might be trying to...
12:54That's just their surveillance squad.
12:56Might have been trying to get me there, but I don't think they were.
13:00So we'll activate the relic.
13:01We'll take the money.
13:02And now we have enough money for an assault rifle, one of the most useful units in the game.
13:07Lots of others have sort of specialist roles.
13:09The assault rifle is your bread and butter unit, and you can do a lot with them.
13:13So pretty happy with that.
13:15I would like to take on another contract.
13:18Let's see what this raider's force is like.
13:20It might be a bit challenging, but we have a decent squad now, so we'll see.
13:24Okay, so these missions are designed to be faster, kind of skirmishes,
13:28almost similar to the sort of thing you'd see in Frozen Signups 1.
13:32And here we have two turrets, which are really tricky units.
13:35These are going to turtle really hard and try and stay out of our way.
13:38A minigun, which is a long-range AoE unit.
13:43Okay, there we go.
13:44You can see how far that will aim up there, if I do that.
13:48And so now what I'm going to do is I need to try and get a handle on these turrets
13:54before they start ultra-turtling,
13:56which will be frustrating.
13:57If they do, I'm going to back off a little bit here and see if I can get the flamethrower.
14:02The minigun is the thing I'm most concerned about, which might run out to here and then fire.
14:07Yeah, okay.
14:08Actually, that's a bit risky.
14:10So this is indeed going to be fairly tricky.
14:14Let me just think about this.
14:16If I can bring this to here, that's good.
14:18I'm actually going to try to hide.
14:22The one thing about these AoE units is they are entirely blocked by cover, like everything else.
14:29The knife unit could be useful here, if I could perhaps get that going on.
14:47Okay, not too bad that...
14:50Oh.
14:52Okay, if I can actually get that kill, that will be good.
14:56If they don't back off too much, that will take out one of the turrets.
15:08Okay, good.
15:09One turret down.
15:10Oh, the minigun trying to fire through there.
15:12Wow.
15:13We managed to dodge.
15:15That flamethrower there is just heating the end of our gun slightly.
15:19But we did manage to avoid it generally.
15:28Yeah.
15:30Oh no, we didn't make it.
15:32But they missed.
15:35They shot behind.
15:37I didn't quite time that right.
15:39And they shot me behind.
15:41Ah.
15:42That could have been a great moment of heroism for the knife.
15:46But unfortunately, we failed.
15:48Okay.
15:49Now what we're going to do is attempt to bring this unit behind here.
15:56Okay.
16:05Oh, we came through there.
16:06That was very risky of the AI to do that.
16:10Very risky.
16:10It doesn't often charge out like that.
16:12I wonder if it was trying to...
16:14It does break its own pattern of turtling forever.
16:18I think we're okay here.
16:19We may well clean up.
16:23Okay.
16:24Good.
16:25All right.
16:25So that was pretty satisfying.
16:27And how much did we get for that?
16:30Okay.
16:30We got a funding increase and we got 15,000.
16:32So it's not that much that you get for those missions because they do tend to be at random.
16:37All right.
16:37We have another incursion here and I decided to do a quick parcel tossers mission in the
16:42meantime, just to get that delivery.
16:46Now we've got enough for a grenade launcher, but we need an extra service to account for
16:49them.
16:50Let me show you the services.
16:51So these are basically things that you need to run your faction and in the ammunition
16:56section, explosive ammunition section, in order to run those units, you have to purchase
17:02this service.
17:03So we can't quite afford that yet, which is annoying because I wouldn't like to be able
17:07to take a grenade launcher.
17:09Is there anything else we could get at that level?
17:12I think we could take a riot shield if we could afford, if there was one in the market,
17:16but there isn't.
17:18Nothing else.
17:19We'll take the SMG for now just to help us out with this mission and we shall go and
17:26send our squad there.
17:28Okay.
17:28So in this mission, our job is to capture this unit.
17:31And just like before, we can see where all of these enemies are going to be moving.
17:35So what we need to do essentially is place our units anywhere within this level where they
17:40can't see us, kind of imagining that we've sneaked in there, in order to facilitate an
17:45ambush.
17:46So I think one of the best things to do will be to try and get our flamethrower into position
17:55where we can shoot out somewhere like that eventually, or maybe sort of maybe sort of in the middle
18:05so we can kind of do this.
18:08Yeah, that's going to be quite nice.
18:11So do we get, automatically kind of get a kill there?
18:15Uh, might position them.
18:20Just have them like move over a little bit once they've done that.
18:25Yeah, so they get out of the way.
18:32Okay, some good news there, getting that assault rifle.
18:34All we need to really worry about are these shotgun units.
18:43Oh, I got taken out by the pistol.
18:46He just charged straight in.
18:47I thought he was going to be more passive than that.
18:50That's not, that's not good news.
18:52That's not good news at all.
18:54Now it's coming for my flamethrower as well.
18:56So I've got to take them out with, with the gas grenade before they get too far.
19:00Uh, on the plus side, I did seem to get a shotgun there.
19:04Oh yes, they managed to come through the front door.
19:07So, I forgot that, I forgot that they were actually armed.
19:10How embarrassing.
19:11Okay, uh, I'm going to, um, they're probably just going to follow me.
19:16So in that case, I wonder if I can bring that through here without getting killed by the shotgun.
19:22Not looking too likely.
19:26Okay, uh, I'm gonna just pop a grenade.
19:32Maybe, maybe they'll make the same mistake as their friend.
19:39Okay, okay, okay.
19:41We managed to hide in there.
19:43Except now we can't get out.
19:48Well, it should be relatively straightforward.
19:50I'm going to continue hiding in this bathroom.
19:55Okay, they decided to run for it and we got them with the gas.
19:58All right.
19:59Well, we managed that mission.
20:04Okay, so now I really need to send my squad back there.
20:08The district are complaining with me because I took so long and I'm in debt.
20:11So that's not a good start to the game.
20:14Just goes to show, you have to pay attention to what you're doing.
20:18Okay, I thought I'd show you what happens when you get further into the game.
20:20So I've got three bases at this point.
20:22We've got some very active factions, which I will just show you now.
20:26And, uh, things get a lot more complicated.
20:28Okay, so we have Brightly University.
20:29Very powerful.
20:30Blue Sunlight and Dime Brothers.
20:31All powerful.
20:32And, uh, I think we have a bit of a war going on with Safeguard.
20:36And, yes.
20:37So what I'm going to do is just see if there's any interesting contracts that we can take.
20:41There's a lot of delivery contracts which I haven't done.
20:43There's a lot of things that I've failed.
20:45Guests want us to give them the relic that we have, as do Forgiven Geometry.
20:51Okay, Dime Brothers wants us to attack Brightling University at this office for 73,000.
20:57So I'm going to do that.
20:59Uh, and I'm going to send this strike team over there.
21:03They're asking us for the relic, which I don't want to give them.
21:06So I'm going to attack them.
21:07If we successfully attack them, this will weaken them a bit.
21:10So that when we go and attack their building, uh, we might well be able to do a little bit
21:16better.
21:23Okay, so they have a decent squad here.
21:26Uh, four assault rifles, a sniper, and a shotgun, and a pistol.
21:30So the first order of business is to get rid of this pistol.
21:42Okay, that sniper's being a bit problematic.
22:08Okay, that was a reasonably good turn for us.
22:11Especially if we don't...
22:13We're going to trade there, which is not ideal.
22:17I don't know if we can actually run out here.
22:22Okay, so we might as well just stand and fight there.
22:31Okay, scoped rifle did a good job of moving around there.
22:35That was nice.
22:41Oh, we got our shotgun taken out by just not having the range there.
22:46That's very frustrating.
22:53Oh, the sniper moved as well.
22:56And now we're down to just our scoped.
23:07Okay, we finally managed to flush out that sniper, but, uh, we didn't really do very well with, uh, beating
23:14that squad comprehensively.
23:15So we're going to have to send another squad over there.
23:18Uh, I'm going to try this strike team now.
23:22And in fact, we've been attacked by safeguards who have had our number for a while.
23:27And they're going to be particularly irritating to us.
23:29They're attacking one of our bases, so we'll have to defend.
23:32Oh, I see.
23:33They're attacking us just outside our base.
23:35And they've got...
23:38They're quite weak, so they only have a load of knife units and an SMG that have lined up to
23:43kind of just harass us.
23:44Which is extremely annoying.
23:46Yes, I don't think, uh, they're going to really cause us too much of a problem here.
23:57Okay, that's enough of that nonsense.
24:00Um, I was in the middle of sending strike team two out to attack Brightling University there.
24:05I think if I have another spare squad around, I might want to, uh, I might want to go and
24:16attack Safeguard.
24:18So let's just have a look at Safeguard.
24:32Okay, looking good.
24:37Ah, we'll just give them the relic to get them to go away.
24:40Why not?
24:41Why not?
24:44Safeguard really aggressively attacking our bases, but they just don't have the forces for it.
24:59Okay, so here we're defending a base, and essentially what happens here is that, um,
25:05until we spot the enemy, they have an advantage.
25:08They're kind of the inverse that you've seen in some of the other missions.
25:10Um, so I've set up some spawn locations here just very quickly.
25:14There are some militia outside who will fight for us.
25:17Basically, if you're in your own territory, then militia will fight for you occasionally.
25:20So we'll just need to see if these Safeguard forces can see us.
25:23Now, this force is a bit better, so it must be one of their better strike teams.
25:33Okay, we spotted them.
25:35They didn't do anything particularly clever.
25:37Okay, Safeguard clearly at all-out war with us,
25:40and I think we do need to try and make it over to their base and take them out, really,
25:44because this is just going to get painful.
25:46Let's just check the faction screen again.
25:49Yeah, they don't have much left in the way of squads.
25:51A lot of their squads have been beaten.
25:53I might just take back that relic that Blue Sunlight took from us,
25:57although I don't really have the squads available for that.
25:59So let's just go and see if we can kill Safeguard.
26:02Yes, yes.
26:05Okay, Safeguard are attacking us just outside their base,
26:08so they obviously had a checkpoint there.
26:12Looks like we got a bit split up here.
26:16They only seem to have one pistol in this squad, though,
26:18so I don't think it's going to be too challenging.
26:23All right, now we can attack their base and hopefully get rid of them.
26:33Okay, so base attacks now take place kind of in this completely contained area.
26:39So this might be one of the higher-up floors on the building, for example,
26:43and they are dark inside buildings.
26:47So that means that if a unit is inside a building, you can't see it.
26:50As soon as it comes out into the open, you can.
26:52So it's kind of like a satellite coverage type situation.
26:54Now, if I get to this purple area here, I'll be able to see all the units.
26:58So that tends to be a good first objective to do.
27:01So I have a bit of a weird squad here, these three snipers and three assaults.
27:06So I am going to start by just aiming through here,
27:10I suppose in case anyone comes out, although perhaps that's a bit silly.
27:13I think I'll come out here and aim that way.
27:24Okay, good job I had sniper coverage of that area.
27:27I think we're going to be okay.
27:29Yes, we are.
27:33Oh, there are some other units that we might have seen over there.
27:35I think that's where the faction leader might be.
27:38So the faction leader is in this base.
27:40And if we kill them, we'll be able to knock them out of the game, which is always nice.
27:48Okay, all good.
27:52So I'll just get over there.
27:55I really suspect we're going to be going up here.
27:57So I'm just going to bring all my units into position for doing that.
28:01Okay, we can now see that the faction leader is indeed there and they don't really have much coverage.
28:08So I think we're going to be okay to just storm in, basically.
28:11So I'm going to clear all my plans.
28:13I'm going to set the snipers up here to give me some sniper coverage.
28:18And then I'm essentially just going to rush because I don't really feel the need to be particularly cautious here.
28:24I think we can make a quick job of this and then get on with the game.
28:39Yeah, they're rushing to take cover in one of the only locked areas still.
29:06Oh, close one there.
29:07They just ducked into this building.
29:08They're really trying hard to protect their faction leader and avoid us.
29:34I think we've got them pretty well pinned down now.
29:41Okay.
29:46Okay, we got them.
29:49They've been taken out.
29:50And so at this point, we have the choice to either basically let them live.
29:56They can kind of run away.
29:58The idea is that you kind of wound them and capture them.
30:00So you can either let them run away or you can let them go into hiding.
30:03And that takes them out of the map game, but it keeps them in the story.
30:06We didn't want you to be able to kill off story characters.
30:08The game can't cope with that.
30:10So they're still there, present in the story with some of their forces sort of generally in the city.
30:14But they're just no longer competing as a big faction.
30:18So that's all good.
30:19They didn't seem to have any money in their base, which is a slight surprise to me,
30:23especially given that we took out their main base.
30:26It may just be a bug or maybe they spent it all.
30:28All right.
30:29So hopefully that's given you an overview of Frozen Synapse 2,
30:32how the game starts and how it can evolve into this multiple kind of factional warfare thing.
30:36There's a whole load of stuff that I didn't show here.
30:39You can pay off factions to stop attacking you.
30:43You can give them relics.
30:44You can do all sorts of different missions for them.
30:46You can investigate all of their ventures that they're doing here independently of any contracts.
30:51For example, here's the banking faction doing some money laundering.
30:54We can go there and attack them and interrupt their progress.
30:57And so the entire game really is about balancing all of these factional issues
31:02with your core role of defending against the incursions.
31:05And you can see how it gets quite elaborate when you have a lot of different squads around.
31:09The factions all develop over time and everything they do gives them some benefit
31:14or will cause them some loss in terms of their squad composition,
31:17in terms of where their bases are and how many checkpoints they have and everything like that.
31:21Let's just take a look at the shape control.
31:24This will show you their current territory.
31:26And you can see how complicated things get eventually.
31:29So here we can see Diamond Brothers, the banking faction, with quite a lot of territory.
31:33We've got Blue Sunlight as well, making some inroads.
31:35And you can watch this change over time as the different factions do things.
31:40It's pretty cool.
31:42So we have a lot of these interesting dynamic systems happening all around you.
31:47Here's some multiple incursions coming down that you have to deal with.
31:50Lots of squads moving around the map.
31:51And the idea really was to create a game that has both of the kind of linear story stuff
31:59that something like a modern XCOM would have, but also has that big systemic feel that maybe
32:04something like Jagged Alliance or XCOM Apocalypse would have, where you're never quite sure what's
32:08going to happen. You're going to see some weird stuff and different things will happen emergently
32:12with the factions.
