00:06Today, we're diving into a powerful story from the Bible about a woman who refused to accept the unacceptable,
00:13a prophet who stepped in with faith, and a miracle that defied death itself.
00:18This is the incredible story of the Shunammite woman and her son.
00:23Our story begins in a town called Shunamm.
00:25There lived a wealthy and generous woman who often hosted the prophet Elisha as he traveled.
00:31Seeing he was a man of God, she and her husband built a small room for him on their roof,
00:36a quiet place for him to rest.
00:38Elisha was so grateful for her kindness that he wanted to do something for her.
00:42He asked her, what can I do for you?
00:45But she was content, saying she had everything she needed.
00:49Elisha's servant, Gehazi, noticed something.
00:52He told Elisha, she has no son, and her husband is old.
00:56So Elisha called for her and made a stunning promise.
01:00About this time next year, you will hold a son in your arms.
01:04The woman could hardly believe it.
01:06It seemed too good to be true after so many years of waiting.
01:09But just as Elisha had prophesied, a year later, she gave birth to a baby boy.
01:15Her heart was overflowing with joy.
01:17This son was her miracle, the fulfillment of a long-held dream.
01:22The boy grew, and one day, while he was out in the fields with his father, tragedy struck.
01:28He suddenly cried out, my head, my head.
01:31The pain was intense.
01:32His father had a servant carry him back to his mother.
01:35She held him on her lap, trying to comfort him.
01:38But by noon, the boy had passed away.
01:41Can you imagine her devastation?
01:43The miracle child, the gift she never thought she'd have, was gone.
01:47But here's where the story takes an extraordinary turn.
01:51Instead of collapsing in grief, this woman acted with incredible faith and determination.
01:56She didn't wail or tell her husband the boy was dead.
01:59Instead, she carried her son up to Elisha's room and laid him on the prophet's bed.
02:05She then told her husband,
02:06Please send me one of the servants and a donkey, so I can go to the man of God and
02:11come back.
02:12Her husband was confused.
02:14Why go today?
02:15It's not a special festival.
02:17She simply replied,
02:19It will be alright.
02:20Her faith was unshakable.
02:22She was on a mission.
02:24She rode as fast as she could to Mount Carmel, where Elisha was.
02:28When Elisha saw her in the distance, he sent Gehazi to meet her, asking,
02:33Is everything alright with you, your husband, and your son?
02:37She answered Gehazi with the same confident reply,
02:41Everything is alright.
02:42She didn't stop until she reached Elisha himself.
02:45She fell at his feet, overcome with emotion.
02:48Gehazi tried to push her away, but Elisha said,
02:52Leave her alone.
02:53Her soul is in deep distress, and the Lord has hidden it from me.
02:57The woman then cried out,
02:59Did I ask you for a son, my lord?
03:02Didn't I tell you?
03:03Don't raise my hopes.
03:05Elisha immediately understood.
03:06He gave his staff to Gehazi and said,
03:09Go at once.
03:10If you meet anyone, do not greet them.
03:13And if anyone greets you, do not answer.
03:16Lay my staff on the boy's face, but the boy's mother was not satisfied.
03:21She said,
03:22As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.
03:26So, Elisha got up and went with her.
03:29Gehazi ran ahead and placed the staff on the boy, but nothing happened.
03:33There was no sound, no response.
03:35He returned to Elisha and said,
03:37The boy has not awakened.
03:39When Elisha arrived at the house,
03:41He went into the room alone and saw the boy lying dead on his bed.
03:45He shut the door behind him and prayed to the Lord.
03:48Then, he got on the bed and lay on top of the boy.
03:51Mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands.
03:55As he stretched himself out on him, the boy's body began to grow warm.
03:59Elisha got up, walked around the room, and then stretched himself out on the boy once more.
04:05This time, the boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.
04:09He was alive.
04:10Elisha called for the Shunammite woman.
04:13When she came in, he said,
04:14Pick up your son.
04:16She fell at his feet, overwhelmed with gratitude and awe.
04:19Then she took her son and went out.
04:21A situation that seemed utterly hopeless was completely reversed.
04:25Her faith, her refusal to give up, and God's power working through Elisha brought her son back from the dead.
04:32This story is a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments,
04:36When it seems like all is lost, there is still hope.
04:40It challenges us to have a faith that acts,
04:43A faith that pursues God even when the circumstances scream it's over.
04:48Sometimes, a miracle is on the other side of our persistence.
