Trump says he demanded 'about seven countries' to join coalition to police Iran's Strait of Hormuz

Trump says attacks on Iran could last several more weeks despite soaring energy costs. The US president says he is assembling a coalition to help police the Strait of Hormuz and escort stranded oil vessels out to address international energy supply crises caused by the war.

00:00The U.S. and Israel are continuing to strike Iran as the war enters Day 17,
00:06with the Allies reporting major successes on the ground and a significant decline in Iranian combat power.
00:12The U.S. military's Central Command says it's carrying out daily attacks against critical military sites and infrastructure,
00:19which it says are being used to target Allies in the region in retaliatory strikes, as well as vessels in
00:26the Strait of Hormuz.
00:27Attacks on the tight waterway have ground shipping and energy exports from the region to a halt
00:32and have sent oil prices in a spiral as Brent crude continues to trade at over $100 a barrel.
00:40U.S. President Donald Trump says he has demanded, quote,
00:43about seven countries to join a coalition to police the Strait
00:47and help escort stranded oil vessels out to resume energy supplies.
00:51It'd be interesting to see what country would help us with a very small endeavor,
00:58which is just keeping the Strait open, and by comparison, isn't small.
01:02It's small because Iran has very little firepower left.
01:06About seven, talking about seven.
01:08Uh-huh.
01:10Just remember that it's something that we don't need, and these countries don't need.
01:18Israel says it has so far struck over 2,000 targets and 10,000 munitions across Iran
01:23as it continues to identify new positions to attack daily.
01:43Meanwhile, Tehran is also claiming success on the ground, as it too says its attacks on Israel
01:49and across the region are proving effective.
01:52The death toll in Iran has now surged past 1,300,
01:56with officials noting that women and children make up at least 445 of the deceased.
02:02More than 820 people were killed in Lebanon, according to the Health Ministry,
02:07as the UN warns of an unfolding catastrophe,
02:10reporting that close to 1 million people have become displaced
02:14amid continued Israeli attacks on the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
02:18In Israel, 12 people have been killed in the war so far,
02:22while the U.S. has suffered 13 fatalities of its service members in the region.
