Steve Borthwick admitted England are “hurting” after completing their worst ever Six Nations following a last-gasp 48-46 defeat by France in Paris.England finally ignited by running in six tries and it was only a Thomas Ramos penalty three minutes into a chaotic period of overtime which denied them victory after Tommy Freeman had crossed late on.It was their best performance of the tournament in which they took France apart up front and let loose in attack, yet it registered a fourth successive loss and a fifth-placed finish.

00:00Does that performance for you kind of underline why you feel you are the right man to lead this
00:04team going forward? I believe he's the right man to lead the team going forward regardless.
00:10We finished the tournament, yes I'm really proud of the way the players played today,
00:15really disappointed for the players, but ultimately we're gutted that we went into
00:19the tournament with such high expectations and aspirations and we've not been able to meet those
00:24targets. I think that we're reflecting that it's painful, we're all hurting, I know the supporters
00:31are hurting as well, we wanted to make sure that they had wins to celebrate and we weren't able to
00:38give that to them and we're all hurting, everyone involved in the team cares so deeply, so the media
00:46reflection is that huge disappointment, a determination to make sure that this hurt
00:54makes the team stronger in the future. I think some of the decisions are debatable,
00:58I think you know the decision against Henry Arundel at the start of the Scotland game was
01:04should say confusing at best, I thought that one against Ellis to give a penalty try,
01:11I don't follow it, I'll ask for it to be explained to me
01:19and in those moments the scrum knock-on and the players are playing it that we've been told on
01:25the pitch there was a penalty advantage and I know probably some people at home are probably
01:28looking at why we played the way we did and it should be explained I think that the players on
01:33the pitch were told it was a penalty advantage so played in a certain manner that knowing you had a
01:39penalty to go back to unfortunately what happened in the background is the TMO would change it to a
01:42knock-on advantage, the players are unaware of it and France go down the other end and score a try,
01:49I think that World Rugby needs to look at that kind of situation, you can't have the players playing
01:54with certain knowledge that and then it taken away from them.
