Ireland head coach Andy Farrell rued a dismal first-half display after France launched their Guinness Six Nations title defence by romping to a 36-14 bonus-point victory.Farrell’s underdogs were outclassed on a punishing evening in Paris and trailed 22-0 at the end of a one-sided opening period following tries from Louis Bielle-Biarrey, Matthieu Jalibert and Charles Ollivon.Bielle-Biarrey’s second score of the evening stretched the scoreboard further before Ireland eventually hit back thanks to quickfire consolations from replacements Nick Timoney and Michael Milne.Despite the positive impact of the Irish bench, reigning champions France – with returning captain Antoine Dupont pulling the strings – completed a statement success at the end through wing Theo Attissogbe.

00:00How do you make your own look in this game?
00:05Well, I think you make your own look in this game
00:09and you make your own look by being ahead of the game.
00:15In most things that are probably without the ball
00:20and I thought we certainly lost that battle in the first half.
00:27And again, I think you make your own look and the things like the high balls
00:31and winning the scraps on the floor and running obviously through tackles
00:40and ourselves missing tackles, etc.
00:44That's the main part of the game, isn't it?
00:48And yeah, we certainly came off second best in that regard in the first half.
00:56Our response to that in the second half and a galleon response,
00:59but it's not what we want to be here.
01:03Our responding team to something that we need to show up from the get-go.
01:11Andy, can I just ask you about the refereeing decisions in the first half
01:15that led to two of the French tries?
01:19Yeah, what do you say?
01:21I mean, nowadays things are always checked.
01:27How they checked and not brought back is another thing for me.
01:38But anyway, we fell on the wrong side of that.
01:42But it certainly wasn't the reason why we lost the game, that's for sure.
