00:00This team, just despite the raw talent, Darren Peterson is going to be a top three, if not number one
00:06pick in the upcoming NBA draft.
00:08He is an elite talent, but people have been questioning him along the way for his give a bleep meter.
00:13And basically what's going on between the connection among he and Bill Self and those teammates and why isn't it
00:20there?
00:21Why isn't this working at the level that everyone expected it would going into the season?
00:25I don't know. It makes me, you alluded to this earlier, it makes me a little bit nervous about what's
00:30to come still for Bill Self, a legendary coach at Kansas, and just in general, why he can't get the
00:36most out of this team.
00:39Listen, I don't think people understand the importance of chemistry.
00:44I don't think you just throw a bunch of mercenaries together and think it's just going to play out and
00:50win.
00:51If you do that, good for you.
00:55St. John's is a team that they did that again this year.
00:58It's taken a while for them to get going.
01:02Kentucky spent almost $23 million on their roster.
01:06That team hasn't looked right more than, what, a week at a time?
01:11Because you don't know.
01:12Kentucky could be a team that could win a Final Four one week and can't make the NIT the next
01:17week.
01:18So I think that's the thing, and I think that's the problem that you have now, where college basketball is,
01:23for these old guard guys, you know, do you want to continue to do this?
01:28Like, people want to talk about Tom Izzo and his old school philosophy.
01:33Tom Izzo spent about $3.5 million on NAL.
01:35Now, if you look at what teams have spent in NAL money, you're not going to find Michigan State up
01:41there and power for schools, which is shocking because of what the number of money they can have.
01:45So you've got to be careful.
01:46So when you start looking at defensive rating, right, and I think Adam is right, defensive rating is so clutch.
01:54So if you pull up the national championship odds, guys, again, really quick for me, because think about this.
02:00You go by defensive rating right now in the country.
02:03Number one is Duke.
02:04Number two is Michigan.
02:06Number three is Arizona.
02:07Number four is Florida.
02:09Number five is Houston.
02:11Where are they ranked right now in the national championship race?
02:13One, two, three, four, and five.
02:16Iowa State is six.
02:19So that's why I said to them, they're a sneaky team.
02:22The one that's kind of the one that people would be like, huh, is Nebraska at seven.
02:29That is the interesting thing about it is, and I'm sorry, top 20 is Nebraska, I should say.
02:35But their defensive rating is really, really good.
02:38Like, I'm sorry, seven.
02:38So for them, that's a team that if you want to say, okay, at 25 to one, could that be
02:46a team right there that can do it?
02:48Because they have an offensive rating of 55.
02:51Do you want to be inside the top 50?
02:53But you still got that number seven in regards to defensive rating.
02:56So if there's a traditional non-blue blood, non-power team that you think year in, year out, they're in
03:03a national championship conversation, Freddie Hoiberg should be there.
03:07That's also why, with no disrespect to Dusty May, Freddie Hoiberg should be coach of the year nationally.
