00:00Scream franchise creator Kevin Williamson says he has no plans to direct Scream 8.
00:05When Williamson was asked if his work on Scream 7 made him want to do more directing,
00:10he told Hello Sydney with a laugh,
00:11Not Scream, no.
00:13He continued,
00:14I want to direct another film that I had written that is just waiting for me to find the time
00:18to direct.
00:19And right now I'm working on a couple TV shows that I'm really excited about.
00:23So maybe I'll direct one of those?
00:24Who knows?
00:25For the next Scream, I'll probably step back and just be a part of the family again.
00:29Williamson, of course, wrote the script for the original Scream that debuted in 1996
00:34and returns to the franchise to co-write and direct Scream 7, which hit theaters last month.
00:39When asked about possible themes for future Scream movies, Williamson said,
00:43I don't know.
00:44Whoever does it will have to let us know.
00:46I have some ideas of where it could go,
00:48but I'm anxious to see what another storyteller could do with it.
00:51I hope that we get the chance to do it.
00:53It's nice to be part of the Scream family.
00:54That doesn't mean I always have to be front and center.
00:57I don't always have to write or direct.
00:59Other people can take the reins.
01:01I'm excited to see what other storytellers come up with.
01:03According to Williamson, an eighth Scream film has not yet gotten the green light from the studio.
01:08He said,
01:08I'm hopeful there will be an eight.
01:10No one's really talking about it yet.
01:12We just assume with the box office, we hope there will be one, but no one's talking.
01:16Scream 7 has surpassed $150 million at the global box office.
