00:00How about the WBC, Joe, getting underway?
00:03And that's going to be 8 p.m. tonight.
00:05That's when the U.S. takes on Canada.
00:06There is a game before them.
00:07That's Korea taking on the Dominican Republic.
00:10But if we look at the line for Team USA, minus 850 right now live.
00:14You see the graphics.
00:15Some outlets have minus 900.
00:16If you want to take that run line, minus 4.5 for the Americans,
00:19and a total of 9.5.
00:21The U.S., Joe, escaped embarrassment.
00:24Now have a chance to advance against Canada.
00:26How do we play this one out?
00:28Well, I mean, here's your shot, Canada, to get even, right?
00:32Because Team USA and hockey and the Olympics, well, they caught you there.
00:36Well, guess what?
00:38You're the underdog here now.
00:39You got a chance to take on the favorite, Team USA.
00:42And how is that going to work?
00:45Likely not well for them, Donnie.
00:47That's what I am thinking here.
00:49I think Team USA comes out.
00:50I think there's going to be some runs here, to say the least.
00:55So, yeah, I'm looking at the over in this game because I do think runs are coming.
01:01Yeah, by the way, also, when you take a look at it,
01:03Logan Webb is going to be pitching in this game, taking on Michael Sirocca.
01:06If the U.S. does advance, it's Paul Skeens.
01:08And then the anticipation of Joe Ryan starting the final win.
01:11It could have been you, Tarek Skubal, who's, I guess,
01:14hanging back out in Detroit somewhere in Florida, getting ready for spring training.
01:17Come on, man!
01:18Big-time action this weekend.
01:20We're excited to bring it to you here on the early line.
01:23Early line on a Friday.
01:24It's just how we get down to business.
01:26So many things happening Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
01:28And then away we go, as we said, into March Madness next week.
01:31Coming up this hour, which includes the next couple segments,
01:33Tom Vecchio will be joining us today.
01:35So make sure you stick around and get those topics there,
01:37whether it's baseball-related, the WBC, what he's looking at on the ice.
01:40Got you covered here, and the fun just begins.
01:42Donnie Wright's side.
01:43And Joe Ranieri.
01:44Man, I wish I was able to find cards like this growing up as a kid, Joe.
01:48What are we talking about?
01:49Fanatics Collect sent out a tweet yesterday.
01:51Breaking news, Joe.
01:52Joe, we're excited to announce that we just brokered a $5.2 million private sale
01:58for the 2013 Aaron Judge Bowman Chrome Draft 1-of-1 Super Fractor Autograph.
02:03Why couldn't I find these?
02:04Look at, Hannes Wagner, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, the $5 million club.
02:10Oh, that's a nice find, Joe, isn't it?
02:13Yeah.
02:13Well, you would think that Fanatics could have used some of that money to,
02:17oh, I don't know, make a few more Team USA jerseys so we don't have to wait
02:22until July, Donnie, to get one.
02:25It would be nice to represent Team USA in a jersey from Fanatics right now,
02:30but you can't, Donnie, because, well, they just don't have enough of them here,
02:34and you won't get them until May or June.
02:37So, but I'm glad that they're making money hand over fist in the collectibles department.
02:42Then they hit you with the no refund probably when you get it this way.
02:45I never wear this jersey to begin with here.
02:47Crazy stuff.
02:48The bracket, Joe, however, is set for the quarterfinals in Miami and Houston
02:52starting tonight.
02:53Again, tomorrow here.
02:54This should be, you want to talk about some passionate baseball?
02:57Check out the crowds in Miami this weekend.
02:59My goodness, man.
03:00Party time, Joe.
03:03I'm telling you, man.
03:04I mean, it's already down here in South Florida.
03:06The baseball fever is alive because spring training is in full effect here.
03:11So, everybody ramps up this time of year for baseball.
03:15But now you couple that with the fact that we're getting the World Baseball Classic.
03:19It is, it's going to be a whole lot of fun.
03:22There will, standing room only, Donnie,
03:24there won't be a lot of empty seats in that building, I can promise you.
03:27When it's time to win, Joe, you say, you know what?
03:30Let those feel-good stories try to end quickly here.
03:32What are we talking about?
03:33Talking Baseball Center tweet out,
03:34Joe Ryan is going to replace Clayton Kershaw on Team USA's WBC roster
03:38after the quarterfinal game.
03:40And by the way, Ryan, as we said earlier, Joe,
03:42lined up to pitching the championship if USA does get there.
03:47Yeah.
03:48I don't know why he was on the roster.
03:50Couldn't you just make him a coach?
03:52I don't know why he was there to begin with.
03:54But, I mean, kudos that at least you're gearing up here
03:57for a couple more games and getting it going.
04:00And, yeah, I like the move, to say the least there, Donnie.
04:04By the way, talking about some moves here,
04:06let's talk about Vinny P, the pass-squatch here.
04:08By the way, defenses are moving in in Kansas City this year.
04:10Here's Vinny P, Mr. March.
04:12So, Vinny, Reggie Jackson hit three home runs in a World Series game,
04:15and he becomes known as Mr. October.
04:17Mr. March?
04:18Some might call you Mr. March.
04:20You know?
04:20Oh, no.
04:21That's great.
04:21And this is like the regular season of the tournament, too.
04:25So, it's just a good night.
04:28That's it.
04:28This will be forgotten very soon.
04:30So, but it's, you know, anytime you can just say Reggie Jackson's name to me
04:37is cool.
04:41But it's special.
04:42I wasn't really thinking about it.
04:43Just, you know, honestly, I was really happy with the 2-2 take I had that past.
04:49I had been chasing quite a bit to the point that, you know, I wanted to just cry.
04:54It's just like, hey, stop chasing balls.
04:56Like, just take balls.
04:57And I took that pitch, and I think I was about as happy as I could be.
05:00So, I was happy with that.
05:03And then, obviously, the result that followed was cool.
05:05So, it was a good night, but, you know, we got to flip the page and get to Saturday.
05:10The Italians save the Americans here.
05:12The Americans move on here.
05:13And, by the way, Italy hasn't suffered a loss yet.
05:16See how far they can go in this tournament.
05:17Hockey-style changes, Joe, by the way, for the WBC roster for the Americans.
05:22Will Vest, Tyler Rogers, and Tim Hill come into town.
05:24Why?
05:25Scoobal, Waka, and Ryan Yarbrough leaving town, Joe.
05:30Yeah.
05:30By the way, I mean, you know, Team Italy's got an espresso machine.
05:35You've got to love them.
05:36Yeah, absolutely.
05:38I mean, here they are just slamming double expressos in between home runs.
05:42And I love that.
05:43Let me ask you a question, Donny.
05:45Why can't Major League Baseball replace the All-Star game with this?
05:52Why?
05:52Why can't we do it in July in the break as opposed to now?
05:58I mean, guys will already be in shape, ready.
06:01Like, why do we have to?
06:03Can't we do this?
06:03I mean, it's worth the four.
06:05We saw what the Four Nations did for the NHL.
06:07Why not make this during the All-Star break?
06:10You know what?
06:11That is a great topic here because the one thing I can't say in the All-Star break for
06:14is not watching the All-Star game itself.
06:16It's that we don't have baseball for that whole week.
06:18But you're talking about if baseball takes off and the players are still playing,
06:21we're still going to have a full, what, two and a half, three weeks of great baseball?
06:24And then they'll just go right back to their teams and start in their next rotational pull.
06:28I think it makes a lot of sense to do.
06:30And it's apparent that these players absolutely, Joe, love this tournament
06:34and the passion for the country of what they have.
06:36It'd just be nice to see, like, oh, yeah, Skubal can go 90 pitches.
06:39Skeens can go 90 pitches.
06:41That's great stuff.
06:42We've got more hot topics.
06:43It's Friday on the Early Line Sports Grid Network.
06:45We've got a place to be setting up for this weekend's action.
06:48More importantly, today's action got unbelievable golf.
06:50We've already talked about some NCAA action that's going to play in the afternoon.
06:53The big boys, not the conferences like, hey, I never heard of that school before.
06:56Great stuff, Donnie right side, Joe Ranieri.
06:58Let's welcome in our friend Tom Vecchio here.
07:00So many topics, Tom.
07:02We've got to get down to the business today.
07:03How you doing?
07:13We do.
07:14So why don't we get right to the topics here, the WBC, as we add on today, Tom.
07:18A 6.30 start and an 8 o'clock start.
07:20The United States will start with that game.
07:22They're going to play at 8 o'clock against Canada.
07:24This is one of those, Tom, where, hey, we punched our ticket.
07:27Don't worry about this last game against Italy.
07:28Whisper in the dugout midway game.
07:30Hey, coach, you might not even be in the next round if you don't win this game.
07:33Change some of the guys.
07:34Move them in.
07:35Move them out.
07:35Predictions coming up, Tom.
07:37They're taking on Canada today.
07:38What do you think?
07:40You know, this is a game where, you know, frankly, given the way that Team USA has played,
07:45I think the money line is a bit much.
07:47Like, I think there's just inherent value in taking Canada on the money line.
07:51I'm not saying I want to or I'm going to, but I just think the line's a little bit dramatic.
07:55You know, looking what we're going to be getting from Canada, Mike Sirocco's going to be starting.
07:58Donnie, you and I have talked about him plenty.
08:00Like, we know he's not a good pitcher.
08:01That's just what it comes down to.
08:03He's bounced around to a number of teams, whether it's the Braves after that, going to the White Sox.
08:07He's just not a good pitcher when it's all said and done.
08:09However, there's something telling me that I'm not willing to back Logan Webb in the capacity that I normally am.
08:15So, this game is very much up in the air.
08:17You can look to the HRR market over on DK.
08:20They do have that posted.
08:22That's where I would go, ultimately, for Team USA players.
08:25I can't back Logan Webb, but I want HRR markets.
08:29Yeah.
08:31We're looking at runs in this game.
08:33It feels like runs are coming in this game.
08:35And is there anybody not named Naylor on Team Canada?
08:39Like, who are half these people here?
08:41But they've done a pretty good job here.
08:43They have.
08:44I would say Tyler O'Neill is a player that, you know, a lot of people across MLB that has
08:48proven with him.
08:48He has the streak of hitting a home run, I think, on five straight opening days.
08:52So, he's got plenty of power.
08:54It could come down to Naylor, as you said.
08:56But it's going to be a collective effort for Canada.
08:59Like, they can't have one guy like Vinny PS that hits three home runs and have half their line go
09:050 of 22.
09:05Like, that's not going to cut it against, you know, Team USA.
09:09I will say there will be an opportunity for Canada to jump on the bullpen,
09:12given the fact that they had three relievers removed from Team USA, and they added three to the roster.
09:17So, these guys have been playing in spring training, but they also haven't been playing on the stage.
09:21So, there could be some trepidation from them coming out of the bullpen, just haven't pitched on the stage yet.
09:27Yeah, wholesale changes coming in, Tom.
09:29First game today, though, 6.30 p.m. starts going to be Korea taking on the Dominican Republic.
09:33This line higher than what Team USA is favored by Canada, right around minus 1,100, and a total of
09:3910.5.
09:40Any looks on the early 6.30 game for you, Tom?
09:42Yeah, so I'm trying to find some combination of the HRR market for Team Dominican Republic that works.
09:49You can get Soto, Tatis, and Guerrero all for two-plus, and that gets you to plus money.
09:56Or you can go Soto, Telmarte, Tatis, and Guerrero for all one-plus around minus 150, which is a bit
10:03of an extreme line.
10:03So, I'm trying to mix and match the HRR market, but the Dominican Republic has looked unbelievable.
10:08And knowing that, I haven't even talked about Caminero, who has plenty of power, and you can mix and match
10:11him in as well.
10:12I think that's ultimately where I'll be going, and I think the runs from the Dominican Republic,
10:16that will be front and center in this game.
10:21It's interesting.
10:22It's hard for me to sleep on Italy.
10:24I mean, they seem to be rolling as a team right now.
10:28And, you know, they're taking on a Puerto Rico team that apparently is not giving up a lot of runs.
10:34They haven't given up a home run yet.
10:36You got Italy does nothing but hit home runs.
10:38This is a fascinating game to me coming up between these two.
10:42It is, and we're talking about a coin flip game, essentially.
10:45You know, minus 118, minus 102 on both sides.
10:47It's the way I, you know, I talked to Craig Mish yesterday about this a little bit.
10:51And, you know, I mentioned Italy, like, oh, you know, portion of their lineup goes 0-22, and they still
10:55win.
10:55And Vinny P has all these home runs.
10:57Like, the question is, like, what happens if that portion of the lineup goes 3 of 22?
11:01And then the portion of the lineup that did all the scoring, they go 3 of 22 as well.
11:05Like, what happens if the bottom falls out?
11:07That's what I would look at it.
11:08So, I don't love the line.
11:10I could see that, like, maybe the gas will run out for Italy.
11:13But I think, at this point, the best bet to make for the entire World Baseball Classic is, how are
11:18we not looking at Japan still as an outright winner and nearly 4-1, plus 380?
11:22If they get past Venezuela, who I do think is a good team, you know, I spoke about them with
11:26you guys a week and a half ago, saying that Venezuela could win the group over the Dominican Republic.
11:30But if they get past Venezuela, they are absolutely better than Puerto Rico or Italy.
11:35They're on the same side of the bracket.
11:36And then Japan would be, presumably, going into the final game, and you have a 4-1 ticket on them.
11:41And then you could just hedge out against Dominican Republic or USA.
11:45Yeah, the U.S., Tom, as we know, watch, you know, Italy did beat them here, but they still ended
11:49up advancing here.
11:50DeRosa's like, whoo, new lease on life, and he's lucky for that.
11:53But if we do look at the actual odds to win the World Baseball Classic, are you surprised it's still
11:57the Americans at plus 120?
11:59Like, I understand they escaped, and, you know, sometimes it's sort of a downgrade, but they're not moving much in
12:03that marketplace right now.
12:04It almost feels like, you know, we talk about, oh, you're undefeated or take a loss late in the season.
12:08It's better for you once you get to the bracket.
12:09Are we feeling better about the USA since they lost that way, and they say, you know what, they can
12:14win this?
12:15I'm not.
12:16You know, if you give me the option right now where USA versus the field, I would take the field
12:1910 times out of 10.
12:21That's what it comes down to.
12:22Dominican Republic and Japan are just good enough, if not better, compared to Team USA.
12:28So, that's where I look.
12:29I think the price is a bit much.
12:31Like, coming into the tournament, minus 115, and only going to plus 120 at this point, at least on FanDuel,
12:36I just don't agree with.
12:38Yeah.
12:39And face it, who has Japan beat so far, besides a bunch of electricians, carpenters, daylight?
12:48So, this is the biggest test for them in Venezuela here.
12:52I don't think they're going to have a problem, but it would be nice to see them get pushed a
12:56little bit here, no?
12:57It would.
12:58And, you know, with the Venezuel lineup that I think is truly one of the best in the world, you
13:04know, we can make our argument at their third best.
13:05You know, USA, Japan, and Dominican Republic, put them in any combination that you want, put one to three, and
13:11then putting Venezuela four.
13:12This would be the spot.
13:13We're going to see Yamamoto on the mound, and these are players that he has faced before.
13:17It's also players that have had some amount of success against Yamamoto.
13:19So, if there's any time, they have to jump on Japan early and get Yamamoto out quickly.
13:25So, if we take a look at some of those other markets here, the WBC, which we take a look
13:28at, like, who's going to win the Super Bowl, but, ooh, who's going to be the MVP, maybe get a
13:31better price?
13:32Shoya Ohtani is the favorite at a 5-1 price.
13:34Aaron Judge, plus 650.
13:35Bobby Witt Jr., who's flashed a lot of glove out there, 14-1.
13:39Any looks, Tom, on who you think might be the MVP or a chance for a wager on?
13:43I said this to Craig Mish yesterday.
13:44If Bobby Witt wants to win, it has to be the defense.
13:47He also needs a home run.
13:48Judge's already got two.
13:49If Judge hits another one and Team USA wins, I think they'll gift him.
13:52If Japan wins and Ohtani is another, it's going to be him.
13:55Bobby Witt needs a home run under his belt or another home run plus an amazing performance on the field.
14:00Talking a little WBC action with Tom Vecchio here, right here on the Sports Grid Network.
14:05There's no better way to spend your Friday.
14:07Thanks, Tom, for joining us for Donnie and Joe.
14:09It is the WBC tonight.
14:10If I gave you a chance, which underdog is the better chance to pull off an upset today?
14:15Is it Canada or is it Korea?
14:20No, I think it's Korea.
14:21I don't think Canada is going to be in this game.
14:25I mean, listen, anything happens.
14:26I mean, it's ironic that now Team USA is the favorite and Canada is the underdog.
14:31It was reversed in the Olympics with hockey.
14:34But, yeah, I think Team USA took a big sigh of relief.
14:39Now that they're in, it's a new season.
14:42I think runs are coming.
14:43I don't think they have a shot.
14:45I do think Korea has an opportunity.
14:48If they can keep the ball in the ballpark against DR, I think they have a shot at the upset.
14:53By the way, some high numbers today on those money lines and the run lines.
14:57But, Joe, when you flip that over to tomorrow as well, Puerto Rico, Italy, that's listed at a minus 118,
15:01minus 102 split as a slight favorite to Puerto Rico.
15:03And then also the 9 o'clock game on Saturday, Venezuela and Japan, plus 140, minus 170 split.
15:09So you might get some blowouts today, but you're getting great baseball from here on out.
15:14Awesome stuff today on the early line.
15:15Our prediction, market's edge.
15:17Coming up next, don't go anywhere.
15:19Keep it away from the grid on this blue is Friday.
15:22But, Joe, let's flip it over.
15:23WBC action tonight.
15:25Team USA going to take on Canada.
15:27U.S. lucky to be here.
15:29And apparently they understand that.
15:31Trading currently at an 86% chance to win this game outright against Canada, which, again, survived in advance.
15:37Canada listed at 14% here.
15:39If we take a look at the spread, Joe, two and a half runs listed at 66%, which, if you're
15:45looking at a $100 investment, that only pays back $129.
15:49So the U.S. buy three or more runs.
15:50You're going to be still paying some juice.
15:52If you want them just to win that game, Joe, 86%.
15:55Looks like the U.S. should be moving on, at least odds-wise.
15:59Yeah, and I like runs, Donnie, in this one here.
16:02I think an over is in play.
16:06I mean, not that I don't like Logan Webb, who's going to be on the mound for Team USA, but
16:12I do think Canada's going to be able to score some runs here, especially as they start heading to the
16:18bullpen.
16:19So, you know, give me Cal Raleigh for a home run.
16:22Give me Schwarber for a home run.
16:24And give me the team total over for Team USA in this one tonight.
16:30I'll tell you what's also interesting, too, Joe, taking a look.
16:32Like, if you figure, and I know you can't, it's recency biased, right?
16:36Sometimes the U.S. bats start a little bit slow in games, and you think Canada can hang around.
16:39You can bet the first five innings winner.
16:41If you do take Canada, Joe, a $100 investment here would pay back $228.
16:46You can even bet the tie market.
16:48There's no ties in baseball.
16:49Sure, there are after five innings.
16:51A $100 wager, Joe, in a 1-1 or 0-0 game after five, that investment would be back at
16:57$323.
16:59How about that?
17:01Donnie, there is, these markets are great.
17:05And again, you don't have to wait very long.
17:07It's not a wait-and-see situation here.
17:10Games are coming up, and I think there is a great way to ladder a few spots here.
17:16Not just in this game, Donnie, but in the tournament.
17:19And it'll be over quickly, right?
17:21So you don't have to worry about tying up capital for very long here.
17:25I think now's the time to take a shot here in a couple of those markets.
17:29Also, first five innings total for the game itself.
17:31How about this?
17:32Over a half of a run for the first five innings.
17:34It's paying back at $8.
17:35By the way, let me just take a look at this, Joe.
17:37Let me take a look at this investment.
17:38Hear me out on this, Joe.
17:41First five innings to go over one run, like that's ridiculous.
17:44But a $100 investment does pay back $25.
17:46That's 25% return for them to score one run.
17:50And again, both teams in the first five innings, I'm not going to get one run, Joe.
17:53Come on now.
17:55Feel the heat, baby, Joe.
17:56Tell me you don't like that, Joe.
17:57One run?
17:58Give me the one run.
17:59Come on.
18:00Love it, Donnie.
18:01And a run in the first inning.
18:03Man.
18:03Like that one, too.
18:04Yeah.
18:05Get the nerfies here.
18:06Fun action investments.
18:07Put your money down.
18:09Prediction markets edge right here on the early line on a Friday.
18:12No better place to be.
