Gary Oldman racconta Slow Horses - Stagione 4.
Trascrizione
00:00La mia immaginazione è sviluppata e viene insieme, e tu sei, hai questo ragazzo.
00:15La mia immaginazione è il capo dei reglietti.
00:18Non amano essere chiamati così.
00:20How do you approach a show where every character doesn't bear, doesn't stand everyone else?
00:26And a show where you have to treat badly everyone on scene?
00:30Well, behind the scenes, off camera, we all love one another.
00:39We're all very nice to one another, on camera less so.
00:52I mean, that's partly the fun of the piece.
00:56I mean, certainly with the character that I play, Jackson Lamb,
01:00the fact that he sort of has no filter and that there's a directness about him,
01:06which at times he uses as a sort of a mechanism.
01:13You know, it's like Spycraft that he's doing.
01:17But that really is the joy of the show,
01:24is that it walks, it walks between the sort of action aspect of it and this rather,
01:37and this dark, sadonic kind of, you know, this humour.
01:41and I think that that's why, I think that's why sort of people have responded to it the way they
01:49have.
01:50So I think especially the, especially the English, you know, they really get that.
01:59That, you know, they really get a good put down, you know.
02:04Yeah, yeah, a good British humour. I totally agree.
02:08Jackson Lamb has already become iconic, not only for the humour, but for the smelly socks,
02:16his dirty hair and his farting.
02:19So how do you make that characteristics look cool? What's the secret?
02:24I honestly truly have no idea.
02:30I mean, he's a wonderful creation of Mick Heron, who is the, you know, the author, the writer of the
02:37books.
02:40So he was pretty much there, kind of on the page.
02:46And then you, you come and then you bring your own sensitivity and creativity to it.
02:55Your own imagination to it.
02:57So when we decided what kind of, you know, you make these decisions,
03:03what kind of tie, what kind of shirt, what do the socks look like?
03:08Because we see the socks and we see the holes in the socks.
03:12What kind of shoes, the usual thing, you know, would he wear a Mac?
03:16Would he wear a coat? Would he wear this? Would he wear that?
03:20And I know that in the description in the book, it says that his hair touches
03:27and it's just slightly beyond the collar.
03:33So, hence the sort of lank, the sort of greasy hair, the long sort of greasy hair.
03:43And as the show, as the seasons have gone on, I've got progressively more scruffy.
03:53It's a combination. It's the creation that, it's the person that Mick has created.
04:03And then Gary sort of coming in and it's the meeting of the two, really.
04:09It's Mick's imagination and my imagination sort of exploding and coming together.
04:15And there you are, you have this guy.
04:20This season is more familiar than the previous ones with River Cartwright and at the centre of it.
04:29Even if your character will never admit that, do you think he considers River and the other's lords
04:37like his sons and daughters and he has a very unique and peculiar way to protect them?
04:42It's certainly that old thing of tough love.
04:49Like I say, there's a sort of, there's a directness about Lamb, which I enjoy playing.
04:57So he's never ever going to beat about the bush with them.
05:00But here's the thing that, here's the thing that you, that very early on that you learn,
05:12if you're in this world, if you're going to enter this world of espionage,
05:16is that you protect your, what he calls there, his jobs, his team.
05:25So he could insult them and humiliate them from breakfast to dinner.
05:33But at the end of the day, he's very loyal.
05:38And there is, yeah, there is some, a parental thing, I guess, that's in there.
05:47I mean, he recognises, for instance, that River Cartwright is a good agent.
05:54I mean, he has the makings of a good soldier in that sense.
06:03But of course, he comes with so much baggage because he loads his grandfather.
06:08So he's, he thinks he's, he rides him hard, you know, it's a hard thing.
06:17He pushes him because there's an expectation then that Lamb has.
06:23And it's, and it's probably somewhat paternal, I would think, I feel.
06:33But, but, but, but River also comes with all that family baggage.
06:39So, which is, which is kind of, I think, which makes it sort of, it's sort of interesting to play.
06:48Yeah, yeah.
06:49This show is about two generations of spies.
06:53The old guard and the new guard.
06:57In a way, it reflects society where the ones with more experience don't trust the younger ones.
07:04And the younger ones would like more consideration, but seem to make a lot of mistakes.
07:10What do you think about the suspects of the show?
07:14Well, I suppose it's like life and kids out there in the world, in a sense.
07:20I mean, I don't know whether you, I don't know whether you have children, but, but, but having kids and
07:28growing up.
07:29I mean, you can, you can tell them all you want.
07:33You know what I mean?
07:34But at the end of the day, they're going to have to go out and experience it themselves.
07:38They're going to have to make mistakes.
07:39I mean, the old guard in that sense has made those mistakes and gathered their life experience.
07:52You know what I mean?
07:54But it's like telling a teenager, it's like, you know, oh, you're going to be like this one day.
08:01And I remember, I remember my parents saying it and then you go, I'm never, I'm never going to be
08:07like you.
08:07And then, of course, you know, you, you, you rebel against all of that.
08:12And then when you find yourself a parent and you think, you're talking to your kids and you say, oh,
08:19my God, I sound like, I sound like my parents.
08:22You know, we, we, they'll, they'll, in a sense, they'll come around.
08:26I'm going to go to bed.
08:29Consideri anche l'idea di una doccia?
08:31Beh, è un'offerta allettante, ma non credo sia appropriata al momento.
08:35Insomma, è appena morto un membro della mia squadra.
08:38You're a danger, little stranger.
