00:05Hi guys, I'm Andrea from Italy for MoviePlayer.it, compliments on the show, it's really amazing.
00:12So, my very first question is, I tried to look around, even in the production notes, but I didn't find
00:18the info.
00:19Was it shot on film or on digital?
00:22Yeah, the one battle with the studio that we decisively and completely lost was the fight to shoot on film.
00:32And we threw down hard, we said, we have to shoot on film, and they were just like, nope.
00:37And then we were like, alright, we'll re-strategize, we'll figure it out.
00:41We came back to them with this huge pitch, explaining why it's going to make the show make more money,
00:45and make the show better artistically, and they were just like, here's the deal.
00:48Like, if you want to spend your two million extra dollars to shoot on film, you may do so.
00:54And then we said no.
00:56And then we shot digitally.
00:58Clever choice.
01:00So, the show features basically half of Hollywood.
01:05Was there anyone who was harder to convince to join the show compared to other people, or they were more
01:12happy to join?
01:13No, I mean, everyone was different.
01:15There wasn't a one-size-fits-all conversation with anybody.
01:19I mean, Martin Scorsese, who's in the pilot, we sent him the script, and he read it and really liked
01:27it.
01:27So, that was wonderful.
01:28There's friends of ours that we wrote specific ideas for, like Zac Efron, or Charlize, or those folks.
01:39So, it was all different.
01:41I think it became very clear that this was going to be a very, very important part of the show,
01:47and kind of like building the, like, this place takes place in real Hollywood.
01:52So, it certainly took a lot of effort to, you know, figuring out who the, you know, people we wanted
01:58to sort of bring into the show and getting them to do it.
02:01But there wasn't, like, the only thing that was always the same was it was figure out who we wanted
02:06to cast and then get them in a conversation with Seth and Evan.
02:12And then they would talk about what they, what the idea for the character was, and then they would quickly
02:19write those exact ideas into the show and then send it to him.
02:24So, yeah.
02:25So, without mentioning the name, was it fun to turn one of the Hollywood Ultimates nice guy into a director,
02:36which is, like, a troublemaker?
02:39Um, well, yeah, uh, we can, we can talk about who he is.
02:44No, we can say, okay.
02:45Sure, totally.
02:45So, Mr. Ron Howard.
02:47Yes, sure.
02:47Yeah, um, uh, working with Ron was super funny.
02:50We, we made a film with his daughter, Bryce, a long time ago.
02:54And so, she told him that he would probably enjoy working with us.
02:58And we met with him, and he was into the idea.
03:00And we probably had the most back and forth with him over his character, uh, more so than anyone.
03:06He was in from the get-go.
03:08He said, let's do this.
03:09I love it.
03:10But he, he hasn't acted in this way in a very long time.
03:14And he was very excited, but also nervous to do it again and wanted to make sure that he did
03:18it right.
03:19Because he also very much understood the way we were filming and that if he messes up one line, the
03:25whole take is ruined.
03:26And particularly, his scenes are quite long.
03:29And, uh, some of them are very complicated.
03:32Uh, and so, yeah, we, we, we had a lot of back and forth with him, just figuring out the
03:35exact lines.
03:36And he, he really wanted to make sure it was as funny as possible.
03:39And would send us joke ideas.
03:41Uh, and yeah.
03:42And then he and, uh, and we and him, he and us.
03:45He and us were, we were all very happy with the end product.
03:48Yeah, but one of the, one of the, like, really fun parts about Ron working is that, you know, he
03:53has a very, very, very famous and, and, uh, and influential production company called Imagine.
03:59And he wore an Imagine hat, uh, uh, when he was, when he was working.
04:03And the, you know, the episode builds to the hat becomes a really useful prop to his character, which I
04:09always found really wonderful that he kind of brought that to the table.
04:12Did he plan to do that?
04:14I wonder, I mean, the fact that he wore it was, what was so cool too, as a producer, that's
04:18like a production company that we all aspire to like sort of have.
04:22And, and, uh, and the fact that he was like, right.
04:24And now this is going to get used in the scene.
04:26So, um, that was really cool.
04:29So, as my last question, the Suntar, you know, in a movie like The Interview or in a show like
04:34The Boys feels quite different from the studio, which seems to be rooted in love and affection to this strange
04:41world you, you work and live in.
04:43I think something like, uh, the disaster artist, right?
04:46So do you, do you agree with this fake?
04:49I think that's exactly how we feel.
04:51I think we, there's a lot of, um, there's a lot of passionate people who care deeply about making movies
04:56and television that we get to be around.
04:58And, um, including, you know, Seth and Evan have said, you know, a few times how like the executives are
05:04a part of that too.
05:05Like, it's not just the writers and directors and actors, but the executives are all here chasing their dream of
05:11making movies.
05:12And, and, uh, and so, um, it's very nice that you seem, that you seem to have gotten the thought
05:18we were trying to get across, which is like, we really love the opportunity to make stuff.
05:23And the show is, is using comedy and, and, and, and the sort of dramatization of that struggle.
05:31But like, we're, we're all, we're all here for it.
05:34We're all excited about it.
05:35Yeah.
05:35And I would add to that, that we also, uh, uh, find it kind of frustrating at times that people
05:41think that Hollywood people are just about the bottom line and making money and getting ahead.
05:46And it's like in finance and construction and all sorts of other industries, manufacturing, people are much more cutthroat and
05:55bottom line dollars and cents.
05:57And Hollywood has this beautiful element of people who are passionate and want to create memorable things that affect other
06:04people.
06:05And so we wanted to get that across.
06:09You completely, uh, hit the right spot.
06:12So do those once again.
06:14Right on.
06:14Thank you so much.
06:15You're, you had some cool toys back in your background.
06:17No, I wish I was in your room.
06:18That sounds like you're having a good time.
