Intervista a Jon Hamm: in Top Gun: Maverick è Cyclone, superiore del personaggio di Tom Cruise, che non capisce perché Iceman l’abbia scelto come istruttore dei suoi piloti.
Trascrizione
00:00Sei il boss, quindi puoi rispondere a chi è il migliore pilota, Maverick o Iceman?
00:30Do you say all the relic to Tom Cruise in this movie, you are really brave, that's why they call
00:37you Cyclone.
00:38Yes, yes, I stand up to Mr. Cruise, it's a very fun thing to do, by the way.
00:43You in Mad Men have one of the best monologues ever, because you perfectly picture the last 20 years of
00:52cinema and TV shows, you say nostalgia is delicate but potent.
00:59Do you believe it's true, and this Maverick is nostalgia at its best, in your opinion?
01:06I agree, I think that is true.
01:08I think it's, what I think that Joe and all the producers of the film, Jerry Bruckheimer, Tom himself, were
01:17very careful of, was not leaning too heavily into the nostalgia of this, and letting it be its own thing.
01:25Letting this chapter of the story live in its own, in its own place and time.
01:32And I think that that's why a big portion of the audience that has seen this film so far has
01:37been so moved, has been so emotionally impacted by it.
01:42Because it does have certain nostalgic elements, but it really does continue the story of Maverick.
01:49And it shows him kind of growing up and learning to make different decisions, and learning to highlight different parts
02:00of life.
02:00And I think that's pretty cool for people to see.
02:04Why aren't you in the football scene? I really wanted to see you in all that.
02:12I was very pleased that I got to keep my shirt and my pants on for that.
02:17Yeah, it was, they had to, they, all of those guys worked out for quite some time to get his,
02:24in shape for that.
02:26It was, it's very cool to be able to do, to do something like that.
02:31Obviously, my character is the boss, so he's not running around playing, playing football with those guys.
02:37But I was, I was very pleased to keep my shoes on.
02:41I love your look in this movie because it's a mix between disgust and curiosity.
02:49How did you find it?
02:51Well, I think that that's part of what the character is.
02:55He needs somebody like Maverick, but he knows that he has to also kind of contain that, that energy.
03:02And I think that that's, that kind of push and pull is what, what gives the movie its dramatic tension,
03:08I think, especially in the second half.
03:10Your character is the boss, yes.
03:12And Maverick is a leader too.
03:15So in your opinion, what makes a good leader?
03:17Because your character wants simply to, the mission to succeed.
03:22Instead, Maverick also wants his boys to, to live.
03:25So in your opinion, what makes a good leader?
03:27I think that good, good leaders have to take all of those things into, into account.
03:32You know, I think that from Cyclone's perspective, he's in charge of not only the lives of these men and
03:38women, but the, he's responsible for the, for the equipment.
03:42And he's responsible for all of the other stuff, you know, hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars of, you
03:49know, taxpayer funded aircraft and what have you.
03:53And I think that, you know, yes, the, the, the, the number one objective is to, to complete the mission.
04:01But number one, a is also to bring everybody home safely.
04:05So, yeah.
04:06So I think he knows he needs Maverick up there in that, in that plane.
04:10And as much as it, as much as the difficulties that Maverick brings along with him.
04:17They say to Tom Cruise in, to Maverick, in this movie, the end is inevitable.
04:22And he says, but not today.
04:24It's almost like he's speaking about cinema.
04:27Do you believe that cinema will live along and prosper for, for many years?
04:33Maybe also thanks to movies like this one.
04:36I think that that is a, that is a nice little wink and a nod to, to where we are
04:42in cinema.
04:43I don't think cinema is going anywhere.
04:45I don't think the theatrical experience is going anywhere.
04:47I think when you have something like a global pandemic, that obviously is a bump in the road for sure.
04:54But I think that there will always be a place for people to come together to see movies as a
05:00group.
05:00I think that there's, there's nothing like that.
05:02It doesn't, it doesn't mean the same thing when you watch it on a laptop or, you know, on your
05:10phone or what have you.
05:11I'm, I'm, I'm thrilled that we get to, that we get to present this only in cinemas.
05:17And I'm thrilled for people to get a chance to see it as it was meant to be seen, big
05:21and loud and in your face.
05:23You're the boss, so you can answer it.
05:25Who's the best pilot, Maverick or Iceman?
05:31Well, I mean, I think the proof's in the pudding.
05:33Maverick's still doing it.
05:34So I'll, I'll, I'll give the nod to Maverick.
05:37Thank you so much.
05:38Great work and beautiful sweater.
05:43I like your jacket too.
05:44I like your jacket too.
