00:00T.L.D.R., I flew to Colombia for 11 days to practice my Spanish for strangers.
00:04My name is Victoria and I've been studying Spanish for the past 4 plus years
00:07and last month I had the opportunity to travel to Colombia with a group of 20 strangers.
00:11I visited Medellín, Guatapé, Salento, Cali, and Bogotá.
00:15And as a part of this trip, I ate a lot of food, hiked over 7 miles,
00:19went on a motorcycle for the first time, and most importantly, spoke a lot of Spanish.
00:24In this video, I want to share with my language learning community a compilation of my language exchanges
00:28as well as my experience getting to learn about a new culture.
00:31So as a person who likes to learn languages, the opportunity to learn a language
00:35and then go to the country where they speak that language,
00:37and then speak the language in the country where they speak language,
00:40that's just so cool and exciting to me.
00:41Which is why I was really excited to make this video.
00:43And if you want to skip to where the video actually starts,
00:45I'm going to put the timestamp right here.
00:47But if you're down to hear me yap for a little bit,
00:49I just want to preface this video with some thoughts.
00:52First of all, this is a type of video that I really, really like making
00:56and that I would love to make more of.
00:58As much as I love sitting in my room and studying languages,
01:03this is why I learn languages, to hopefully have the opportunity to go
01:06and travel to somewhere where the language is spoken,
01:09or even if it's in my own country, just put the language to use in real life
01:13and make some real connections.
01:15That's why I do it.
01:16I would love to make more videos along these lines.
01:19I mean, just like dream with me for a second.
01:21I'm thinking like I traveled to Brazil and practiced Portuguese.
01:27You know what I'm saying?
01:27I'm thinking I traveled to West Africa and practiced French with the Senegalese,
01:32with the Congolese, you know what I'm saying?
01:33With the Cameroonians.
01:34Went to Japan and practiced Japanese and tried to speak Japanese for 24 hours.
01:39I don't speak Japanese, but you know, you get the vision.
01:42Obviously, you know, one has to graduate.
01:44The funds have to be there.
01:46Matter of fact.
01:47There's 1,000 of you.
01:48I said close them doors.
01:51Ushers, close the doors.
01:52But yeah, like I would really love to build on this and make more videos like this.
01:58That being said, this video was kind of like the first of its kind on my channel.
02:01So there was logistics.
02:03Like, I don't know if I went with the right camera to be vlogging like that.
02:07Like I really went with my phone and this camera that I'm filming on.
02:10So I tried to capture as much interactions in Spanish that I could,
02:14which I think to an extent it went very well.
02:16But there were a lot of interactions where I was, you know, talking to someone.
02:20And it was like a great conversation.
02:21But I was like, I'm not going to pull out my phone right now.
02:24But anyways, just wanted to share kind of that vision with you guys.
02:29And I hope you can watch the rest of the video with that in mind.
02:33All right.
02:34So to give some more backstory on the trip as well.
02:36This was a group trip.
02:37I went with like 20 something strangers.
02:40I did not know nobody on this trip.
02:42But I was like, look, you only live once.
02:46This looks like a great experience.
02:47And it was.
02:48All of those people hold a very dear spot in my heart right now.
02:51And to start off the video, we landed in Medellin.
02:55This was the 14th of March.
02:57Had a Uber driver or taxi driver take us to where we were going to be staying.
03:02So that is where we start off.
03:04What are you doing?
03:05Well, three days here in Medellin.
03:07Once a day in Colombia.
03:09Where are you from?
03:10Salento, Cali, Bogotá.
03:11Salento, Cali, Bogotá.
03:13Paraiso.
03:14Paraiso.
03:15Paraiso.
03:15Have you known more cities in Latin America?
03:17No.
03:18This is my first time in Latin America.
03:20You have a Spanish?
03:21Very good.
03:22Thank you.
03:23Thank you.
03:23If you want to keep my number, if you need the food.
03:27Yes.
03:28Yes.
03:28He said save his number so that you have the references.
03:32Yes.
03:32I'll send you information about tourists.
03:34Here we go.
03:35We want to go out of Comuna 13.
03:38Something spectacular.
03:40And what's your name?
03:42Alejandro.
03:42Alejandro.
03:43While I was in Medellin at first, I did not film too much because, you know,
03:47we're still feeling out being in a new country, just soaking it all in.
03:51But, of course, we visited Comuna 13, which was once one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Colombia
03:56and now is a city that represents transformation through creativity and resilience.
04:02So it's just a lot of really impressive art throughout the neighborhood, whether that's through music and rap, graffiti, murals,
04:09and more.
04:09And then the next day, we hopped on a bus for a day trip to Guatape, which is this colorful
04:13little town about two hours outside of Medellin.
04:16It's known for its bright buildings, lakeside views, and, of course, La Piedra de Peñol, which is a huge rock,
04:22a huge monolith.
04:23And in Guatape, you know, I remembered, oh, I should probably be recording.
04:27So I started recording a lot more.
04:29And in Guatape, we started off the day with an amazing Colombian breakfast.
04:36Wait, so how do we get down?
04:38We have to walk back now?
04:39Or pick a kid?
04:39I think we have to.
04:41I think we have to walk back down, yeah.
04:42So we are going to walk back now, La Piedra de Peñol.
04:46And we are going to climb.
04:48There are 700 and so many steps.
04:53So, we are now going to La Piedra de Peñol.
04:58Uuuh!
05:00That's 740 steps.
05:06Wow.
05:07That's not good.
05:07Oh god.
05:12We will write in for a minute.
05:15Thank you.
05:17Thank you.
05:19Thank you.
05:20Thank you.
05:22If I have the time he is scrolling on Instagram, looking at other people's content,
05:27I'm asking people to be-
05:28they are making all content.
05:30Donc moi et Luella, nous allons être postés plus, parce qu'il y a trop de contenu à être fait
05:38et qu'il y a des choses à partager pour nous être prêts et ne pas faire des contenus.
05:43Donc, y'a-t-il y'all go check out her channel.

14:24Y'all the Lord sustain me
14:27But it's a beautiful view
14:28What's the new words that you've learned
14:30In Spanish
14:31Oh, I think that's a little question
14:35We're all here for you
14:37Picante
14:38Yes, yes
14:41So at this point
14:42You're fluent
14:43In books and spices
14:47That's like 70%
14:48Of what you need to know
15:11How was it the first time when you met in Spanish?
15:14Yes, when I met for the first time
15:17It was very small
15:18From the two years
15:20They started doing therapy
15:21Two years?
15:23From the two years
15:24I was riding with my family
15:26And all
15:26After six years
15:28I was riding with the horses
15:33Entiendes
15:34So from there to here
15:36Hace 18 years
15:37I came riding with the horses
15:39And how did you feel the way to the horses?
15:43Very good
15:44I had a little fear
15:45Because I never had been riding
15:47I never had been riding before
15:48And more when
15:50I don't know if I was riding
15:52I almost fell
15:54I almost fell
15:55I almost fell
15:55But
15:56Yes, but with the horses that I told you
15:58You know how to support the horses
16:00And always
16:01The horses
16:01And always
16:02And always
16:03The horses
16:03And always
16:03To have a better balance
16:09So our time in Salento came to an end
16:12And I have to say
16:12Salento was my favorite city in Colombia
16:15Like by far
16:16I hope to go back again
16:17But we were on the road to Cali
16:19And in Cali we stayed maybe one and a half days
16:21So not too too much going on
16:23But we did try a sauna lesson
16:25And then I took a motorcycle Uber to Cristo Rey
16:29But they were closed unfortunately
16:31So we came back to Cristo Rey
16:34Y están cerrados
16:35Creo que no revisamos muy bien los horarios
16:38Pero por lo menos pudimos conocer San Antonio
16:42Que fue una ciudad bastante tranquila
16:45Muy linda
16:46Comimos
16:47La comida fue muy buena
16:48And before we knew it
16:49We were on our way to our last stop of the trip
16:51Which was Bogotá
16:52I actually really liked Bogotá
16:54And one of the last things that we did there
16:56Was head to Monserrate
16:58Which is one of the famous mountains in Bogotá
17:00From which you can see literally the whole city
17:02As well as the sanctuary of Monserrate on the top
17:05Hola a todos
17:06Estamos en Monserrate
17:09Ya casi nos vamos de Colombia
17:11Tenemos mañana y después
17:12Yo no voy para Estados Unidos
17:15Ella se va para Inglaterra
17:16Ella para Estados Unidos
17:17Todos nos vamos para nuestros hogares
17:20Muy triste
17:21Pero yo creo que hemos dado
17:23Y hemos podido practicar mucho de los hogares
17:25Si, yo necesito
17:27Si
17:30Pero no
17:30Voy actualizándoles
17:32Que yo creo que hay gente que quiere tomar fotos
17:34Ahí son de Spanish
17:36Hola, ¿cómo estás?
17:38Te amo
17:38Nija

17:48Voy a hacer como
