00:00Valentina!
00:01Hello!
00:01How do you do? Nice to meet you!
00:03What a pleasure!
00:05Oh my...
00:06I know, I know!
00:08Surprise!
00:10Yes, cool!
00:23So, Mr. Rogers is so nice, he's almost disturbing.
00:27Do you think that?
00:28Can't handle it, can you?
00:29Yeah, no!
00:31A little tough.
00:33So, do you think that kindness is revolutionary?
00:38I think we're at a stage in our, seemingly in society, where, as you say, it's become
00:43almost a shock when someone, you know, as Tom said earlier, the default is so much so the
00:49opposite, that when someone is actually nice, you go, what do they want?
00:52What are they hiding?
00:53Which is tragic in its own way.
00:55I think most of the human experience that you have, I think you meet kindness much more
01:02than you meet animosity.
01:04It's only when it comes down to a statement, a post, program, an idea that either you want
01:11to expose or say, hey, listen to me.
01:14Because, look, I think if you go into most restaurants in the world or most stores, you're
01:18going to be meeting with some degree of, hi, how are you?
01:20How can I help you?
01:21And that might be a professional place that you have to take, but it can also be a very,
01:29a very personal one.
01:30And I think that you, there are people out there whose default mode actually is kindness.
01:36It just, they don't make a lot of money at being kind.
01:39You make a lot more money at being the creator of conflict.
01:44True.
01:45I love the fact that Mr. Rogers takes the subway.
01:48He doesn't have a driver.
01:50He stays in touch with people.
01:51How important is to stay in touch with people, not lose the feeling, the humor of people?
01:59Well, I live in New York, so I have that experience of being on a subway incredibly often,
02:06where, where the interaction is, is forced, which is, I think a great thing.
02:12It, that's what, you know, I think we're, we're slightly losing sight of and to some degrees
02:16is that these, these communal experiences are starting to kind of drift away.
02:23And when, when, when you are forced in, in, in sometimes what I've seen in, in New York,
02:27which I, which I love is there is an slightly, there's a moment of conflict or, you know,
02:33an adversarial moment, it always surprises me how communally everyone wants to resolve
02:39or, or protect or, or make peace.
02:43And that's always reassuring.
02:45So, as long as I'm on the New York subway, I'm not, I don't have a choice that, about interaction.
02:51Hmm.
02:51Truth is in New York, the subway is the easiest way to get around.
02:54Well, that's also true.
02:56It actually, despite all of its faults, it is the fastest.
02:59It is the easiest.
03:00And when I'm in New York, I take the subway as well.
03:02Except in professional circumstances where, you know, you're making an appearance or something like that.
03:06But in, in regular life, when you're just trying to get around, the, the subway is a magnificent way.
03:12And, look, I, I realize if someone looks up to me and they say, you know,
03:16Hang on.
03:17Wait a minute.
03:17Are you, are you who you think you are?
03:20And I say, well, who do you think I am?
03:22But I've had, I've had very easy going and, you know, genuine conversations with the handful of people on a
03:30subway
03:30who are not engaged on their phone.
03:33They're, almost everybody on the subway has earbuds on.
03:36I know.
03:36And they're doing something on the phone.
03:37But every now and again, you sit down or you're standing next to someone and you're, you have that moment
03:42of uncomfortable eye contact.
03:43And you end up talking with somebody who is just getting to school or is getting back from work or
03:49is on their way to a doctor's appointment.
03:51And I, I have treasured those moments where nothing is expected from the engagement other than about 15 minutes of
03:59shared conversation.
04:00Oh, this is my stop.
04:02I have to get off.
04:02Have a good day.
04:04Yeah.
04:07Registriamo.
04:08Daniel, sei pronto?
04:08Sono pronto!
04:10Grazie, Daniel.
04:11Ma, stava parlando col pupazzo?
04:13Per favore, zitto.
