Trascrizione
00:00Uh, what, what you just made me think of was, was, was Gotham was the monster, um, for, for, for
00:07my character, right?
00:13Veni, mister. Chiede di te.
00:16Il killer l'ha lasciato per Batman. Perché scrive a lei?
00:22Sei venuto. Ho cercato di raggiungerti.
00:26I love how in this movie, each character, um, reminded me, uh, a classical monster, uh, Dracula, Frankenstein, Invisible Man.
00:37So I want to ask you, did you think about a monster for your character?
00:43Interesting. That's cool. Um, uh, no, I think, I mean, once you start to enter the character,
00:54you, you are sort of trying to look through that character's point of view and, uh, what, what you just
01:00made me think of was, was, was Gotham was the monster.
01:05Um, for, for, for my character, right? You know, and I think Matt certainly referenced some real life monsters, uh,
01:14so to speak, right?
01:15The Zodiac killer was a reference for him and, and, uh, I did a little research there, but I also
01:22like that you're speaking to this idea of something bigger than, so there is a reality and a groundedness to
01:32this film,
01:32but there is still like an archetypal power at work. Um, so I, I, I really like that idea.
01:40George Gordon, um, uh, immediately believes in, in, in Batman. Instead, we see that Bruce Wayne is the one who
01:49is really questioning in this movie. Um, they, they, they say that he's just a billionaire. He's just a rich
01:56guy. He doesn't do anything useful.
01:59So, in your opinion, um, these are times in which we have to question more the Bruce Waynes than the
02:07Batmans.
02:07It's a great question. The first panel of the very first Batman comic is Bruce Wayne and Gordon. Um, uh,
02:21Gordon doesn't have a relationship with the Batman.
02:24And so as, you know, the franchise, the series has evolved over time, we've arrived at this place in our
02:32time in which, as you describe in our film, um, Gordon only has a relationship with the Batman and kind
02:39of views, uh, views Bruce Wayne through, uh, a slightly skeptical eye or very skeptical eye.
02:47And I think it's, it was a wonderful choice by, by, by Matt, uh, in his script because it was
02:54a part of these, um, these through lines, uh, in the storytelling that, um, brought into, uh, play these class
03:05tensions, which I think are very relevant and, and, and, and other, you know, kind of social and political cross
03:12currents
03:12that only, um, brought our version of the story into the present in a really immediate way. Um, so I
03:23think it makes a lot of sense. Um, and I think as well what it does is it kind of,
03:30um, does away with the assumptions
03:33that we might very easily bring to the table in watching a Batman film, that, you know, Bruce Wayne is
03:38honorable and the Batman is heroic.
03:41We ask these questions at the beginning, are they? And we don't take these, these things for granted. Rather, we,
03:50um, we work through them in ways that I think are smart, um, thoughtful,
03:55breathe new life into, uh, into the series and, uh, and, and again, are, are, are intensely, uh, relevant.
04:03I was amazed by, uh, the, the need of the Riddler of a community. Do you believe that he really
04:10embodies, uh, the true spirit of these times? Because he, he needs a community. He wants to be seen. So,
04:18uh, did you think about that, about his use of social media?
04:21I did a little bit. I did, I did research certain things, but I think the, the opportunity that I
04:30think Matt was giving us that was special within a Batman film was to make it as emotional and psychological
04:38as possible and as personal as possible.
04:41So my, most of the feelings I cultivated for Edward and for the Riddler were not anthropological at large. They
04:52were like insanely personal. And why did that person feel unheard or unseen?
04:58I mean, this character, not, you know, other people out there in the world. And this character I think has
05:06had a highly traumatic past who, and, and a lot of his pain stems from there.
05:11Um, but yes, the sort of little contacts and tethers to certain realities. I mean, Matt also wrote this five
05:20years ago, I think makes the, the, the, the film all, all the more powerful.
05:26Okay. Thank you so much. Great work. Bye.
05:30Thank you.
