00:00Here's what I am really excited to do is welcome in Tim Settle to the program.
00:05Tim, what's up, man?
00:06How you been?
00:08What's up, y'all?
00:09I miss y'all, man.
00:10What's going on, brother?
00:12Ain't nothing much.
00:14Just a newer, improved me.
00:16I love it, man.
00:18You know what, Tim, what I want to know?
00:20What was the thing that made you want to come back?
00:24I've been telling this.
00:26So it's DQ, and nobody understands this, but when I was in high school going into college,
00:39Coach Henney was one of the top five schools I had went and watched.
00:44I went and visited for my official visit.
00:49So that's kind of like where I kind of veered off to, you know, Coach DQ and then Coach Henney.
00:56And then, you know, TAP is a Virginia Tech Hokie.
00:59So it was kind of, I feel like everything was kind of like just really adding up to, dang, like
01:05you miss home.
01:06And not only that, I'm from Anansis, you know, my son lives out here.
01:11And, you know, you know, I just love the culture here.
01:14You know, obviously I see the change in the ownership and I see the change in this whole organization and
01:21whole.
01:22So, Tim, I want to ask you about that specifically.
01:26So you were drafted.
01:27You are now one of very few players that has been a Redskin, a football teamer, and now a commander.
01:35There's not a lot of you.
01:37It's like you, Tress, Terry.
01:39It's a short list.
01:41And Payne and Reeves.
01:42Payne, Reeves, and John Allen, too.
01:45I think John had a year with the commanders.
01:48But here's my question, Tim.
01:50When you walked in the building, probably this morning, I'm guessing, was the first time back.
01:55Yeah.
01:56How blown away were you by how different everything looks?
02:01I was blown away.
02:03Everything looks for the better.
02:05You know, I feel like they have all the resources that's going to benefit, you know, the players.
02:10And, you know, to help us perform at a high level, you know, when it comes to the weight room,
02:14the church station.
02:16I haven't even gotten to the locker room yet.
02:18It looks different because you used to see the locker room when you walked downstairs.
02:21But now it's a door.
02:23It's very different.
02:24Yeah, it's different.
02:25I haven't been in the training room yet.
02:27They got rid of the green field.
02:30Oh, my goodness.
02:31That's amazing.
02:33I said, I used to walk across that field.
02:35Man, you're going to mess up whatever kind of shoes you had walking across that thing, man.
02:39Your shoes are going to be green.
02:40Do you remember the amount of dog poop that used to be on that field?
02:43That always drove me nuts.
02:45Oh, the duck.
02:45It was duck poop, wasn't it?
02:47Oh, man.
02:48Don't get me started.
02:50You might take the long go.
02:52You might walk around just so you don't got to walk through the green, the duck goose.
02:59Tim, when you got drafted by the Skins, you were 21 years old.
03:03Now you're coming to town.
03:04You played here for four years, two years in Buffalo, two years in Houston.
03:08I turned 20.
03:10You might have been 20 when you got drafted.
03:12I was 20 years old.
03:12Yeah, because you turned 21, I guess, in July, right?
03:15I had to get that stat.
03:16I had to get that stat.
03:17I was 20 years old.
03:20My birthday is July 11th.
03:23So, four years here.
03:24Then you go to Buffalo, and you're playing on really good teams in the playoffs every year.
03:29You go to Houston.
03:29Houston, you're playing on really good teams.
03:32How different are you as a dude just by, like, maturing and getting, you know, aging, but also playing on
03:40those really good Bills and Texans teams?
03:44I feel like playing on those teams helped me see what you need to win.
03:49You know, obviously, when I was here, we had 10 quarterbacks.
03:53So, you know, that wasn't helping anything.
03:55Went to Buffalo.
03:57You know, obviously, you got Josh Allen.
03:59You know, then I went to Houston.
04:01You got CJ.
04:01But I feel like the thing I learned and picked up the most from leaving Washington and joining other organizations
04:08was, you know, what it takes to win.
04:11You know, what do you need to win and how to win.
04:16You know, I realize that a lot of games come down to two-minute, four-minute.
04:20A lot of games come down to how good your defense is playing and quarterback play.
04:28So, you know, obviously, those three aspects is, you know, what it takes to win.
04:32But, you know, coming back here, you know, obviously, we got a quarterback, you know, being able to just give
04:40him opportunity and chances.
04:42Like, you know, obviously, he's been to the third round.
04:44And, you know, just that alone is just like we ain't seen that so long in this organization.
04:49So, you know, this is amazing to see that.
04:52And, you know, just being able to pick up and just being able to be the best team that I
04:58could be as far as, you know, being myself, being an entertainer, you know, making sure I'm bringing unity together
05:04in and out of the locker room, you know, within all positions and players and being able to just bring
05:10everybody.
05:12Tim, looking at some of the people that they've signed so far this year as well, yourself, O-Way, Chason,
05:18Okonkwo, Leo Chennault, Nick Cross, all those different guys.
05:22As you look at the guys on defense, do you allow yourself any opportunity to start thinking about what can
05:27possibly be?
05:29Oh, absolutely.
05:31The sky's the limit.
05:32Like I said, like, I just feel like it's a different thing when it comes to brotherhood and unity.
05:36Like, I feel like when you get outside of football and you can revert things from football to off the
05:44field and you can be close and you can care for and you can have a type of bond with
05:50one another, you know, that doesn't rely on all football.
05:54It allows you to play next to somebody at a higher level than you think you could.
05:58Talking with Commander's defensive lineman, Tim Settle.
06:03It's good to say that again, man.
06:06It feels so good to hear that, man.
06:10I'm curious, dude, talking with Durante Jones, obviously you know a bunch of coaches on this staff.
06:16What do you think your role is going to be?
06:20Can you say that one more time?
06:22Just talking with the new coaching staff.
06:24Like, where is your role on this defensive line?
06:28Right in the middle.
06:30I love it.
06:32Right in the middle.
06:33You want to be in the middle of chaos, huh?
06:35Yeah.
06:36Look, I feel like that's beneficial because I feel like nobody runs it to me.
06:42So, it's just going to make it 50-50.
06:45How much better is your game now than maybe two years ago?
06:50Like, I feel like especially defensive linemen in the middle when you realize how to play your leverages and where
06:58to be in the gaps.
06:59Like, how much have you learned and grown about your football game?
07:03Honestly, like, just like learning football at a different level, just being able to learn different attack points.
07:09Obviously, I'm not the type of guy that can cross chop, but I can go through you.
07:14And, you know, that's just kind of how I reverted things.
07:17You know, I call it bully ball.
07:19I'm not a bully, though, but I play bully ball.
07:22But, I mean, I don't know.
07:23It's just I like opposing my will and just being able to just be overly violent and being overly physical
07:29all the time.
07:30You know, I feel like it wears O-linemen down.
07:33I feel like it causes O-linemen to think.
07:37And the moment I get O-linemen thinking, the moment I can do what I want.
07:41I love it, man.
07:42Inflick your will on them.
07:44What's your favorite part?
07:46Obviously, family, right?
07:47But you're back home now.
07:50My son is out here.
07:52Totally.
07:53But, like, is there a favorite restaurant or food or, like, I know you're probably not thrilled about coming back
07:58to D.C. traffic, but what are you thrilled about?
08:01Trust me, I'm excited to come back to this traffic.
08:05This traffic is minor league to Houston's traffic.
08:12I don't even leave between 3 to 7 o'clock.
08:15It's so bad out there.
08:17You got to go ahead.
08:18Look at the clock.
08:19It's 3.15.
08:20I'm awake.
08:22My last question.
08:23You'll be out there stressing.
08:25Houston's crazy.
08:26It's got two downtowns.
08:27I've never seen a city.
08:28Houston is one of the biggest cities you're going to find.
08:31Tim, you're right.
08:32You're having cars that don't need to be on the roads out there on the roads, man.
08:36People don't understand the traffic out there.
08:38That traffic is crazy, man.
08:38I was on the way to the airport yesterday.
08:40I've seen somebody's whole back bumper off, again, the back door, and both headlights out.
08:46I was like, in Virginia, you're not even going to pass an inspection.
08:53Last one from me, Tim.
08:55Getting to play in Texas the last couple years.
08:57That's pretty warm weather year-round.
08:59How is the golf game?
09:02You know, I have improved golfing tremendously, but, you know, I haven't golfed this year or so.
09:08But, you know, I feel like I got all the mechanics done.
09:11They golfed a lot out there.
09:13You know, I feel like my teammates out there golfed a lot.
09:15But, you know, I have one funny story.
09:17I got a, what is it, a three-wedge?
09:20What's the little, what's the driver that you, three-woods?
09:24See, you know, I'm just getting into my golf and terminology.
09:26Please bear with me.
09:28Man, my first swing with that joint.
09:30It knocked the head off of it.
09:32$375.
09:33Right?
09:34On the middle of the golf course, man.
09:37I got a new one, though.
09:38I be kind of scared to use it.
09:40When they break, though, you can send them right back.
09:43They'll fix those.
09:43I know, but it was my first swing.
09:45It was like I wasted $4.
09:47It's like I paid $400 for a swing.
09:51I'm going to tell you, this is not, this has nothing to do with football,
09:54but someone was just texting us so that you played in the game
09:58when y'all played in the middle of a NASCAR track.
10:01And they say you took a ride.
10:02I played in the Battle of Bristol in 2020.
10:04It was 2017.
10:06I wonder how the hell you got there.
10:07How did you get in the pace car?
10:10I didn't get in no car, but.
10:12Oh, they said that you went around in the pace car.
10:14I was about to say, how the hell you getting that car?
10:16No, no.
10:17It was 160,000 fans there, though.
10:20Damn.
10:22He couldn't move walking in.
10:24He said it was like a school of fish for a group of people.
10:30Well, Tim, man, thank you for making time for us.
10:32Appreciate you, bro.
10:33Welcome back, man.
10:33We're excited you're back.
10:34I love you, guys.
10:35I'm looking forward to talking to you all again, man.
10:37Absolutely, man.
10:38Take care.
10:38Congratulations, man.
10:39All right, bro.
10:41All right.
10:41Tim Settle, man.
10:43One of the good ones, dude.
10:44Just a really good dude.
10:46And if you watched, I noticed it when he was in Buffalo, like how much his game grew.
10:51And then playing on that Houston D-line the last two years with those dudes.
10:56Think about it.
10:57For those two guys to get one-on-one that many times, had to be some badasses in the middle.
11:02Yeah, man.
11:03You know what I mean?
11:04And I love his attitude, like I'm going to be right in the middle.
11:07Like he knows what his role is and has really grown to excel in that role.
11:13Sw veure, man.
11:13In normal.
11:13I love it.
